Ranholn, the barbarians that invaded Rome looted and destroyed records, not the Romans themselves. The Romans were so incredibly nationalistic that they'd eat the dead gladiators while Rome was under siege, and eventually it was an aristocrat that opened Rome's gates, not the people. Why would they destroy their own records?
