Rent - Seasons of Love

Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes,
Five hundred twenty-five thousand moments so dear.
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?

In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife.

In five hundred twenty-five thousand
six hundred minutes
How do you measure
A year in the life?

How about love?
How about love?
How about love? Measure in love

Seasons of love. Seasons of love

Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes!
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Journeys to plan.

Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure the life
Of a woman or a man?

In truths that she learned,
Or in times that he cried.
In bridges he burned,
Or the way that she died!

It's time now to sing out,
Tho' the story never ends
Let's celebrate
Remember a year in the life of friends
Remember the love! (Oh, you've got to, you've got to remember the love)
Remember the love! (You know that love is a gift from up above)
Remember the love! (Share love, give love, spread love)

Measure in love! (Measure, measure your life in love)
Seasons of love!

Seasons of love. (Measure your life, measure your life in love)

And this verse from this song...

Dixie Chicks - Not Ready To Make Nice

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting
"I believe every single person is extraordinary. The tragedy is that we
have a society where too many people never get to fulfill that
extraordinary potential. My view – the liberal view – is that
government’s job is to help them to do it. Not to tell people how to
live their lives. But to make their choices possible, to release their
potential, no matter who they are. The way to do that is to take power away from those who hoard it. To challenge vested interests. To break down privilege. To clear out the bottlenecks in our society that block opportunity and block progress. And so give everyone a chance to live the life they want." - Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Music is the key to the heart.

"Once art to me was something far off, unfathomable and unreachable... But I discovered that the real essence of art was not something high up and far off, it was right inside my ordinary daily self. If a musician wants to be a fine artist, he must first become a finer person. A work of art is the expression of a person's whole personality, sensibility, and ability." -Shinichi Suzuki

no Eagles yet?  :o
Hotel California- Eagles

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
’this could be heaven or this could be hell’
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the hotel california
Any time of year, you can find it here

Her mind is tiffany-twisted, she got the mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the captain,
’please bring me my wine’
He said, ’we haven’t had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine’
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They livin’ it up at the hotel california
What a nice surprise, bring your alibis

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said ’we are all just prisoners here, of our own device’
And in the master’s chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can’t kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
’relax,’ said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!
“People seldom do what they believe in. They do what is convenient, then repent.” ~Bob Dylan

Ramble On- Led Zeppelin

Leaves are falling all around,
Its time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, Im much obliged
For such a pleasant stay.

But now its time for me to go,
The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain,
And with it pain,
And its headed my way.
Ah, sometimes I grow so tired,
But I know Ive got one thing I got to do,

Ramble on,
And nows the time, the time is now
To sing my song.
Im goin round the world,
I got to find my girl, on my way.
Ive been this way ten years to the day, ramble on,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.

Got no time to for spreadin roots,
The time has come to be gone.
And tho our health we drank a thousand times,
Its time to ramble on.

Ramble on,
And nows the time, the time is now
To sing my song.
Im goin round the world,
I got to find my girl, on my way.
Ive been this way ten years to the day, ramble on,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.

I aint tellin no lie.

Mines a tale that cant be told,
My freedom I hold dear;
How years ago in days of old
When magic filled the air,
Twas in the darkest depths of mordor
I met a girl so fair,
But gollum, and the evil one crept up
And slipped away with her.
Her, her....yea.
Aint nothing I can do, no.

Ramble on,
And nows the time, the time is now
To sing my song.
Im goin round the world,
I got to find my girl, on my way.
Ive been this way ten years to the day, ramble on,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.

Gonna ramble on, sing my song
Gotta keep-a-searchin for my baby...
Gonna work my way, round the world
I cant stop this feelin in my heart
Gotta keep searchin for my baby
I cant find my bluebird!
Id listen to my bluebird sing but I cant find my blue bird
A-keep-a ramblin baby...

Since Ryazania said some parts in IRC, it inspired me:

Money, get away.
Get a good job with good pay and youre okay.
Money, its a gas.
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash.
New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think Ill buy me a football team.

Money, get back.
Im all right jack keep your hands off of my stack.
Money, its a hit.
Dont give me that do goody good bullshit.
Im in the high-fidelity first class traveling set
And I think I need a lear jet.

Money, its a crime.
Share it fairly but dont take a slice of my pie.
Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil today.
But if you ask for a raise its no surprise that theyre
Giving none away.

Huhuh! I was in the right!
Yes, absolutely in the right!
I certainly was in the right!
You was definitely in the right. that geezer was cruising for a
Bruising!
Yeah!
Why does anyone do anything?
I dont know, I was really drunk at the time!
I was just telling him, he couldnt get into number 2. he was asking
Why he wasnt coming up on freely, after I was yelling and
Screaming and telling him why he wasnt coming up on freely.
It came as a heavy blow, but we sorted the matter out
"I assure you -- I will be quite content to be a mere mortal again, dedicated to my own amusements."

"All Day Sucker" by Stevie Wonder

Come on up you say
Cause you can feel your love comin' down
I find myself rushin' over to
Do something for your love

I knock on the door
You answer askin' what am I there for
I say I thought you wanted me to
Do something for your love

I'm an all day sucker
Coming to give something to get nothin'
I'm an all day sucker
Coming to give something but to get none of your love

all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love

You call me up to say
You're sorry for what went down the other day
And could I come over today
Do something for your love

One knock gets me in
But then you say how very nice it's been
That lets me know that I will once again
Get nothin' from your love

I'm an all day sucker
Coming to give something to get nothin'
I'm an all day sucker
Coming to give something but to get none of your love

all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love

You drop by to say
You're sorry for what went down the other day
And if I had some time later in the day to
Do something for your love

Anyone else would say
'No that's okay'
But maybe by now she'll see things my way
And ask me to say to
Do something for her love

I'm an all day sucker
Coming to give something to get nothin'
I'm an all day sucker
Coming to give something but to get none of your love

all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
To get none of your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
Being stingy with your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
I'm an all day sucker for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
Givin' none of your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
I'm an all day sucker for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
To get none of your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love
all day sucker for your love
all day sucker cup for your love

Roll On by Dntel

From a begging man

To your father's friend

And that cop who pulled me over on Beverly Grand

I've had a famous man

On his fire escape

And countless dinner dates

And a warm bed, well that's something

But that alone just ain't enough

So I roll on, roll on

But it's just no fun

When your heart belongs to a son of a gun

A shooting rifle, a firing range

I'm pistol-whipped, I'll never be the same

But I love him, yes I do

And he's gonna do what he's gonna do

So I roll on, roll on

When I knocked you down, you called my bluff

You pushed me over, fair enough

In high schools, hospitals, on holidays

I've seen your face in every goddamn state

My overdose, it was almost too late

You said it aged you when you saw my face

And a warm bed, well that was something

And history’s horse keeps on thumping

And it rolls on, rolls on

But it’s just no fun

When you hate the person you’ve become

Bitter, lonely, and isolated, before I know it I’ll be an old maid

But I love love, yes I do

Even when its weight cripples you

It rolls on, rolls on

I never loved that other man

He’s a fairy tale that I can’t have

And now I know how a fairy tale feels

You wanna marry me, you say that I’m the real deal

And I just don’t know how I got stuck

Guess there’s muscle memory for love

And if you try hard enough

You might once again call my bluff

Or you can roll on, roll on

But it’s just no fun

When your happiness is on the run

Jumping hurdles in life’s 10k,

It’s a marathon and love’s too late

But a warm bed is as good as it gets

Let’s settle down and have a couple of kids

And do like your parents did,

Or we can roll on, roll on, roll on

And if it's there
Don't let it get you down,
You can take it.
And if it hurts
Don't let them see you cry,
You can make it.

Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head high.
Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head high.

And if they stare
Just let them burn their eyes
On you moving.
And if they shout
Don't let it change a thing
That you're doing.

Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head high.
Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head high.

Hold your head up
Hold your head up
Hold your head up
Hold your head up
Hold your head up
Hold your head up
Hold your head up
Hold your head up
Hold your head up

Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head high.
Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head high.

And if they stare

Hold your head up, oh
Hold your head up, oh

Hold your head up, oh

Cat Power - Colors and the Kids
« Reply #68 on: August 06, 2007, 01:59:43 PM »
It must be the colors and the kids
That keep me alive
'Cause the music is boring me to death

It must just be the colors
And the kids that keep me alive
'Cause I'd wanna go right away
To a January night
I built a shack with an old friend
He was someone I could learn from
Someone I could become

Will you meet me down
On a sandy beach
We can roll up our jeans
So the tide won't get us below the knees

Yellow hair
You are a funny bear
Yellow hair
You are such a funny bear
Slender fingers
Would hold me slender limbs would hold me
And you could say my name
Like you knew my name

I could stay here... become someone different
I could stay here... become someone better

It's so hard to go in the city
'Cause you wanna say "hello" to everybody
It's so hard to go into the city
'Cause you wanna say "hey, I love you" to everybody
When we were teenagers we wanted to be the sky
Now all we wanna do is go to red places
And try to stay outta Hell

It must be the colors and the kids
That keep me alive
'Cause the music is boring me to death

It must just be the colors
And it must just be the kids
That keep me alive on this January night

Yellow hair
You are a funny bear
Yellow hair
You are such a funny bear

GAAAHH!!! Not that song, NOT THAT SONG!!!!
*runs and hides in a corner, covering his ears*
* Talmann has had to sing Seasons of Love with people who are [sarcasm]slightly[/sarcasm] tone deaf.

Ouch.  That is an easy song to butcher.

Evanescence-Missing

Please, please forgive me,
But I won't be home again.
Maybe someday you'll look up,
And, barely conscious, you'll say to no one:
"Isn't something missing?"

You won't cry for my absence, I know
You forgot me long ago.
Am I that unimportant...?
Am I so insignificant...?
Isn't something missing?
Isn't someone missing me?

[CHORUS]
Even though I'm the sacrifice,
You won't try for me, not now.
Though I'd die to know you love me,
I'm all alone.
Isn't someone missing me?

Please, please forgive me,
But I won't be home again.
I know what you do to yourself,
Breathe deep and cry out:
"Isn't something missing?
Isn't someone missing me?"

[CHORUS]

And if I bleed, I'll bleed,
Knowing you don't care.
And if I sleep just to dream of you
And wake without you there,
Isn't something missing?
Isn't something...

[CHORUS]

And...

Aqualung-Brighter Than Sunshine

I never understood before,
I never knew what love was for,
My heart was broke, my head was sore
What a feeling.

Tied up in ancient history,
I didnt believe in destiny,
I look up you're standing next to me,
What a feeling.

What a feeling in my soul,
Love burns brighter than sunshine,
Brighter than sunshine,
Let the rain fall, i don't care,
I'm yours and suddenly you're mine,
Suddenly you're mine
and it's brighter than sunshine.

I never saw it happening,
I'd given up and given in,
I just couldn't take the hurt again
What a feeling.

I didn't have the strength to fight,
suddenly you seemed so right,
Me and you
What a feeling.

What a feeling in my soul,
Love burns brighter than sunshine,
It's brighter than sunshine,
Let the rain fall, I don't care,
I'm yours and suddenly you're mine
Suddenly you're mine.

It's brighter than the sun,
It's brighter than the sun,
It's brighter than the sun, sun, shine.

Love will remain a mystery,
But give me your hand and you will see,
Your heart is keeping time with me.

What a feeling in my soul,
Love burns brighter than sunshine,
It's brighter than sunshine,
Let the rain fall, I don't care,
I'm yours and suddenly you're mine
Suddenly you're mine.

I got a feeling in my soul ...
(repeat chorus to end)

Ok, so, my favourite lyrics at the time are from Don McLean's "American Pie". Such a beautiful and aparently simple song contains so many symbols and hidden meanings. This must be what i loved about it....and maybe the fact that it's talking about persons i admire :Billy Haley, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin etc. So...here are the lyrics:

A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they’d be happy for a while.

But february made me shiver
With every paper I’d deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn’t take one more step.

I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died.

So bye-bye, miss american pie.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."

Did you write the book of love,
And do you have faith in God above,
If the Bible tells you so?
Do you believe in rock ’n roll,
Can music save your mortal soul,
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?

Well, I know that you’re in love with him
`cause I saw you dancin’ in the gym.
You both kicked off your shoes.
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues.

I was a lonely teenage broncin’ buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck,
But I knew I was out of luck
The day the music died.

I started singin’,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."

Now for ten years we’ve been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin’ stone,
But that’s not how it used to be.
When the jester sang for the king and queen,
In a coat he borrowed from james dean
And a voice that came from you and me,

Oh, and while the king was looking down,
The jester stole his thorny crown.
The courtroom was adjourned;
No verdict was returned.
And while lennon read a book of marx,
The quartet practiced in the park,
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died.

We were singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."

Helter skelter in a summer swelter.
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter,
Eight miles high and falling fast.
It landed foul on the grass.
The players tried for a forward pass,
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast.

Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune.
We all got up to dance,
Oh, but we never got the chance!
`cause the players tried to take the field;
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?

We started singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."

Oh, and there we were all in one place,
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again.
So come on: jack be nimble, jack be quick!
Jack flash sat on a candlestick
Cause fire is the devil’s only friend.

Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage.
No angel born in hell
Could break that satan’s spell.
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite,
I saw satan laughing with delight
The day the music died

He was singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where I’d heard the music years before,
But the man there said the music wouldn’t play.

And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
But not a word was spoken;
The church bells all were broken.
And the three men I admire most:
The father, son, and the holy ghost,
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died.

And they were singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."

They were singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die."
A cynic is a man who, while smelling flowers is looking around for the coffin.

"Weird Al" Yankovic-Smells Like Nirvana

What is this song all about?
Can't figure any lyrics out
How do the words to it go?
I wish you'd tell me, I don't know
Don't know, don't know, don't know, oh no
Dnn't know, don't know, don't know

Now I'm mumblin' and I'm screamin'
And I don't know what I'm singin'
Crank the volume, ears are bleedin'
I still don't know what I'm singin'
We're so loud and incoherent
Boy this oughtta bug your parents
Yeah

It's un-in-tel-ligible
I just can't get it through my skull
It's hard to bargle nawdle zouss(?)
With all these marbles in my mouth
Don't know, don't know, don't know, oh no
Don't know, don't know, don't know...

Well we don't sound like Madonna
Here we are now, we're Nirvana
Sing distinctly? We don't wanna
Buy our album, we're Nirvana
A garage band from Seattle
Well, it sure beats raising cattle
Yeah

And I forgot the next verse
Oh well, I guess it pays to rehearse
The lyric sheet's so hard to find
What are the words? Oh, nevermind
Don't know, don't know, don't know, oh no
Don't know, don't know don't know...

Well, I'm yellin' and we're playin'
But I don't know what I'm sayin'
What's the message I'm conveyin'?
Can you tell me what I'm sayin'?
So have you got some idea?
Didn't think so, well, I'll see ya!
Sayonara, sayonara
Ayonawa, adinawa
Odinaya, yodinaya
Yaddayadda, yaaahyaaah
Ayaaaaah!

The Queen of Light took up her plow
and turned her self to gold
The Prince of Thieves embraced the glow
and walked the night alo-o-o-one
dance in the dark tonight
sing to the moon
the Dark Lord rides and falls tonight
and time will tell us all

(I love chess and think this is referring to the Queen Knight smothered mate)

To date, this is the only song that has gotten a tear out of me.  It's clearly the most beautiful song I've ever heard.

Almost Lover - A Fine Frenzy (Alison Sudol)

Your fingertips across my skin
The palm trees swaying in the wind
Images
You sang me Spanish lullabies
The sweetest sadness in your eyes
Clever trick

Well, I never want to see you unhappy
I thought you'd want the same for me

Goodbye, my almost lover
Goodbye, my hopeless dream
I'm trying not to think about you
Can't you just let me be?
So long, my luckless romance
My back is turned on you
Should've known you'd bring me heartache
Almost lovers always do

We walked along a crowded street
You took my hand and danced with me
Images
And when you left, you kissed my lips
You told me you would never, ever forget
These images

Well, I'd never want to see you unhappy
I thought you'd want the same for me

Goodbye, my almost lover
Goodbye, my hopeless dream
I'm trying not to think about you
Can't you just let me be?
So long, my luckless romance
My back is turned on you
Should've known you'd bring me heartache
Almost lovers always do

I cannot go to the ocean
I cannot drive the streets at night
I cannot wake up in the morning
Without you on my mind
So you're gone and I'm haunted
And I bet you are just fine

Did I make it that easy
To walk right in and out of my life?

Goodbye, my almost lover
Goodbye, my hopeless dream
I'm trying not to think about you
Can't you just let me be?
So long, my luckless romance
My back is turned on you
Should've known you'd bring me heartache
Almost lovers always do.

Aqualung - Can't Get You Out of My Mind

A kiss is not just a kiss
A smile is more than a smile
Maybe we get together
Maybe forever
Maybe just for a while

I've seen the look in your eye
I've seen you wondering why
There's a center of gravity
Brings you near to me
Nearer all the time

And I'm hypnotized
Petrified
Every time you walk by
And I can't get you
Out of my mind

Thought you'd never be mine
I thought I was wasting my time
Darling every time I think of you
I can't believe it's true
That you're here by my side

And I'm hypnotized
Petrified
Every time you walk by
And I can't get you
Out of my mind
