I like it, though if your doing the heaven, hell cold war I may play someone who is part of a third party.

Its always struck me that there would be some humans who's point of view would be screw heaven screw hell how dare you play games with our lives.  I thought this when I watched night watch and when I D&D I play neutral mostly (as one of my odder friends put it spoofing gangster rappers "Yo, True neutral for life man" and "you ain't neutral you ain't nothing").

just for the record fantasy role play hell yes

I don't have anger issues I just prefer to solve my problems with violence!

Okay, so here's a setting Ran and I thought up that offers anything and everything plus a connection between individual storylines. Basically a skeleton to fill out as players please.

Quote
Since the dawn of civilisation, mankind has never been alone. On the world humans inhabit, magic is abundant and creatures that put the wildest imaginations to shame roam the earth. As a result of the chaotic tendencies of nature, elves, faeries and even ghosts can be seen everyday. Some parts of the world live in peace and harmony while others are ravaged by constant warfare. What most do not know, however, is the true state of things.

Two centuries have passed since the Supreme God, commonly known as Teratakana, who created all that is and then mysteriously disappeared, returned and placed a lock on travel in and out of those places usually referred to as Heaven and Hell, which had been fighting with each other for millennia. As a result, the conflict ceased and the mortal plane of existence flourished. Dragons, ancient guardians of the mortal realm, were finally able to follow their own ways on earth, some exerting minimal influence and seeking solitude while others claimed dominance of regions.

However, the ban set by Teratakana had many side effects. As a result, the noblest and vilest of souls could not migrate to the heavens or hells they should have after death and were forced to stay on the mortal plane as ghosts and other undead creatures; those demons and angels that were on the mortal plane at the time of the locking down could not return to their homes and roam free if weakened, most hunted by the dragons but some having thrones of their own and waging war against the guardians; also, the other Outside realms, such as the planes of the nine elements or other, unknown ones, were unaffected and travel to and fro them is possible; finally, the magical power the mortals wield, either that stemming from the dragons known as natural magic or the one springing from within the mortals themselves, inherent magic, is potent enough to summon the prisoned angels and demons, though never longer than for a day and a year.

All planes have their own magical streams, but the most powerful ones are those of the dragons and heavens and hells. For this reason some may seek to subjugate these beings through their own magic. Why such calling is possible even with the lock, no one knows. Also, some experts know that although there very well might be certain loopholes to the lock itself, the lords and ladies of the celestial and infernal domains, gods themselves, have in their fear of Teratakana prohibited the use of such circumventions. However, their power is not absolute.

Because mortals change and dragons grow and decline in strength day by day, the potency of the most common magics wanes and waxes noticeably, making new discoveries quite frequent in the art. However, as the world is an enormous place and there are only so many mortals, no one can say certainly what danger and power lurks. Some even rumour of infernal dragons or celestial elements, but whether they exist or not is known to only Teratakana who has now vanished again after locking down the two strongest realms. Whether or not Her lock will remain indefinitely, only She knows.

Key points:

Magic:
-Mortals have inherent magic that their souls generate. They are the only beings with souls and hence, such power.
-All planes have guardians that generate the natural magic there. In the mundane world, they are the dragons, while elsewhere they might be archangels or -demons, raging storms of primal energy or something completely unimaginable like snowflakes.*

Planes:
-No confirmed free routes in and out of the celestial and infernal dimensions, though some are rumoured to exist. All recorded travel happens by summons of mortal magicians or Earthbound angels or demons.
-Planes that have been studied to any real extent (by mortals):
--the heavenly realms
--the infernal realms
--four of the nine elemental planes:
---fire
---water
---air
---earth
--the plane of eternal dusk (home of the dead)

*See the Plane of Eternal Kawaii** for more details
**Eh, why the heck not?

Basically, this is a sandbox environment. Roleplaying can, should and will affect the world, but the emphasis should be on the characters, not in turning the setting to what you want it to be. Maybe what they want it to be, though. So, please, play as you will but think of the others. Everyone's in the same world and who knows who you might just meet. The whole thing is tabula rasa, so get in there and write something on it!

P.S.

It'd be really great if you wouldn't do stuff like playing Teratakana or dismantling the ban. Kinda ruins the setting and Ran and I worked quite a lot on it. Hope you like it!

Yeah quite cool, it might be fun to have a group of humans who have decided that only they should exist and are trying to wipe out all other creatures (well all other sentient creatures).

I like it!  I've not the slightest inkling what I'll be playing as of yet, but I'll come up with something.

I dunno, I might play a male creature.  I played a woman of one type or another in my last 4 or 5 D&D campaigns and I don't it to overlap with my online RPs too much.

Your character can still be enamored with mine if you like, my dear.  Feel free. :wb:

I would like the idea of a more steampunk-setting with flying ships and floating isles in a infinite sky...

Who's on first?

(Sorry, couldn't resist...  :D  :trout:)
Music is the key to the heart.

"Once art to me was something far off, unfathomable and unreachable... But I discovered that the real essence of art was not something high up and far off, it was right inside my ordinary daily self. If a musician wants to be a fine artist, he must first become a finer person. A work of art is the expression of a person's whole personality, sensibility, and ability." -Shinichi Suzuki
