I feel sad about the state of things
« on: February 07, 2013, 01:25:04 PM »
When I first joined Taijitu, it was my way of finding a nice, welcoming and cosy community away from the drama and political manoeuvring of other regions. We had an active Delegate, we were doing well recruitment wise, and our activity levels on the forum were good. We had a dedicated player base, Funkadelia, Cozulul, Wast, Letonna, Gulliver, Myroria, Eluvatar, Delfos and myself. There were some others who came in to join us casually from time to time, but generally this forum was sustained by the activity of the 9 of us.

Together we were all important parts of the Taijitu government. Either as carefree Senators (Myroria, Letonna, Cozulul and Myself), loud and vocal citizens/conspiracy theorists (Delfos). There was Wast with his hilarity and daily polls. Gulliver and Funkadelia leading the region, and Eluvatar our chief of law, dryly quoting the law whenever given the opportunity. It was also accompanied by a small amount of RP.

For a while, this was enough. The community hummed along nicely, we all contributed in our own way and things were going good. Taijitu was a home to many of us, and an important part of our lives. I'm not entirely sure what changed that.

I think a big thing was losing Gulliver. Once he slipped off into inactivity and recruiting basically entirely stopped a lot of the community started to slow down. The truth is, there wasn't much to change, in terms of government structure or errors of the law for the Taijitu Senate, and addressing issues of the Founder nation soon became tiresome for us, and we lost interest. One could say that Taijitu almost has the perfect government system. Too perfect even. Another issue was that nearly every referendum did not meet the quorum requirements, so the constitution could not be changed, even if we wanted it to be.

I'm not going to put blame on anyone. I think that game has been played and was clearly wrong. I'm just as much to blame as anyone else for the inactive state that we find ourselves in today. One needs only look and realize that the biggest poster on our forums recently was Unibot, ambassador from the United defenders league to see that this rings true. None of us are doing much to sustain this community that we know and love, and certainly aren't doing much to grow it.

I'm not sure what can be done to fix it. I know Eluturtle will pop up and say recruitment! I know that's important. I think though, we as a community and the active people devoted to it, should consider other ways for us to grow the community. I would not be opposed to throwing out the constitution and holding a convention to redraft a new one. We could do something similar with the legal code. Taijitu needs to become an active player in Foreign Diplomacy like it once was, and possibly in the area of military gameplay as well. I honestly don't care whether the army is Defender only, or Raider only. I just think we need to adapt and change, and do what we can to keep this community alive.

If there is nobody interested in that, then I guess we must resign ourselves to the fact that possibly Taijitu has had it's day. A sad thought, given the region's proud past, and the community it once had. That said, it was my pleasure to have been a part of this community, for even such a short time.

I just thought I would share my thoughts on the situation before us.

I miss Taijitu. I visit the forums everyday in a hope someone has posted something. I agree with you that perhaps a radical jolt like a whole constitution change may help, but I'm not sure...maybe it's to far gone

meh, lack of workforce and availability of those that are active and can propose and do things. As Letonna I've been checking the forums when I can, less often, I could propose stuff but I don't have the availability to carry them forward, nor the "political will" to work around the inactivity issue. In fact, I think what lacks most is political will.

Also, Loud and Vocal is what makes democracy, being "citizens" or "conspiracy theorists" doesn't matter, making you think twice, hear people, accept other views makes things dynamic. I suggest watching Parks and Recreation, we need a Leslie Knope to put everything to work, not Kim Jong-un.

Maybe we should scrap the constitution and do the reform we were going to do, citizens assembly and whatnot.

When I called you a conspiracy theorist, I meant it in a nice way. You are right that is what makes democracy, and you were a vital part of that.

I think it might be worth getting a new forum. This one looks old and tired to me. I think it would be better if we restarted completely on Zetaboards. A fresh clean slate could be nice for us.

I think, we should throw out the constitution and hold the committee. I don't think it's possible for us to do that though, due to quorum requirements of the constitution that are unrealistic due to our current activity levels. I think we as the dedicated community should be able to simply decide to do this, and do it. Damn what requirements and restrictions are put upon us.

No, I don't think Zeta is the right way forward. I believe that a forum software which is free but allows you to have your database would work best in the long term for Taijitu.

Regardless of my political role in Osiris, I'll be happy to do anything that I can to help Taijitu if I'm needed.

I just said Zeta because I think a fresh start might be best. Anyone new who joins this forum would just see ancient threads everywhere and little activity. Might be best to start again.

I'm willing to create a new forum, and will start on one right away. I don't mind if we decide not to use it, but I think it's something we should definitely consider.

Another important things to consider is the fact that the Founder nation is close to ceasing to exist again. If Eluvatar does not log into it, we will have to try and get in contact with one of the founders. Hopefully they have accurate email contacts on this, or Letonna might be able to get in hold of Myro in RL.

Eluvatar has also disappeared from TNP and I don't know when he will return.

Are we all in favour of removing the constitution and holding a convention to draft a new one?

Here is my forum: http://w11.zetaboards.com/Taijitu/index/

Like I said, I don't mind if we don't use it! I had fun making it... but it does look nice

You both should come on IRC more so we can discuss things in real time... do it.

It looks so cute :)

I've sort of lost interest in the game. Between the foolishness of TNP (which I don't get bored of occasionally reading) and the total inactivity here, plus my commitments to a gaming community I joined in July, as well as a lot of new games that have taken me away from NS, it sort of lost its luster. Someday soon I might get back to the game, but as for right now I don't know. It was just disappointing to attempt to fix it so often and nothing ever working. I hope you can find a fix for things soon. Like I've said, do things in the international sphere to get renown, that's what makes people think of you.

I like the new forum now we need to populate again and I think perhaps bring the concerns of subforums into the structure of our laws such that interest should be constant and concerns addressed in immediacy. We need to recruit for sure but more importantly is creating a more heavily interactive environment as we once did, this has always been what has lead to the vibrance and power of our community, our Taijitu. In my opinion although credit is due to those who do the political heavy lifting and site maintenance, we should recognize that it was more players such as Mama Khab and her ilk who really brought our community together and allowed it to grow to the heights we once attained. So in short I don't care if we raid or defend or any of that, I care about perhaps rekindling an active and vibrant community of wonderful human beings (ourselves among them) interacting meaningfully through this our medium and common pastime.

IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE!
A Meteor fragmented over the Taijitu area and created chaos amongst several nations, now they all unite to rebuild and get things working again.
