The right to vote at another time!
« on: July 13, 2012, 02:19:14 AM »
Hi

I've been in the US and I wasn't able to participate on the forums and all that, including the elections. It's the second time in a row that this happens, I went away and I wasn't able to vote. I believe that my right to vote is more important that any schedule, and it should be possible for people that want to vote, being able to vote some other time! I believe this is kinda awkward since all I had to do is go to the interwebs and cast my vote I guess, but I really didn't have the time to read and reflect to vote. I know the implication with such a small population my vote could possibly change something but you can't just deny my right to vote if not being able to vote on that schedule. If necessary, we could span the electoral system time and the election periodicity to accommodate this new right and limitations so it can't be abused with.

Could you be so kind to consider a way for:
- those that justify before the election happens that they're not able to vote under the normal schedule
- the right to vote after the nominations or elections on "extraordinary" voting period.
- limit of time on which this extraordinary voting period can be processed.

Thanks

I don't know how practical this would be to implement.

Candidates cannot be certified until all votes are counted.

There can be no extended voting period after the end of elections.

Nor can there be any voting before the end of Nominations. You wouldn't know who the candidates are. And Voting begins immediately after the end of Nominations already.

While we could lengthen the election period for this purpose, it is my opinion that if one is absent for a full week and a half, then one can probably wait another five and a half weeks. The next elections are not at all far in the future.

Mr. Delfos,

I do respect your concern on this matter. And I took it before members of the senate and judicial system. We have all come to the conclusion that this is impossiple to implement. First and foremost, we don't often know who is running for what position until sometimes just days before the election. This was the case with delegate Funkadelia, who switched form senatorial race to delegate race very close to the actual voting period. secondly, An extended ballot would possiple provide complications with our CIVS voting system, and may confuse election terms time spans.
If you have any more ideas on how we may address this problem, please post them or address members of government.

Senator Letonna.

Eluvatar has already stated my feelings on this in a very concise manner, unless there's an alternative that I'm missing.
