Juno

So far, Juno is the best film that I have seen from 2007...though its the only Best Picture (Academy Awards) nominee that I have seen yet.  What are your thoughts...most guys I've talked to loved it, while the few people I have met that disliked it were all female...does that hold true here?
"I believe every single person is extraordinary. The tragedy is that we
have a society where too many people never get to fulfill that
extraordinary potential. My view – the liberal view – is that
government’s job is to help them to do it. Not to tell people how to
live their lives. But to make their choices possible, to release their
potential, no matter who they are. The way to do that is to take power away from those who hoard it. To challenge vested interests. To break down privilege. To clear out the bottlenecks in our society that block opportunity and block progress. And so give everyone a chance to live the life they want." - Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

I saw Juno yesterday.  Before seeing it, I only heard it was terrible or amazing, and neither are true.

Juno is a good movie, however instead of using its awesome cast (which it has) it focuses on an unlikeable female lead.  At a first glance it seems like she is a perfect person to cast the part, sassy, cute, had indie appeal that the movie thrives off.  But instead of being sassy, she comes off as a smart ass who complains too much and instead of being charming and original, it comes off as striving to obtain this pseudo hipster goal.  Basicly Juno is not an organic character.

Overall though the movie was solid.  I do have a weak spot for anyone in arrested development, and there are two here.  But the rest of the supporting cast does come off well.  The best part is the emotions that I felt for the couple she was going to give the baby to.  A complete switch of "likability" happens by the end.

I agree wholeheartedly with the fact that the cast of Juno is amazing.  However, I must respectfully disagree on the point about Juno being an "unlikeable female lead".  I felt that her personality wasn't trying too hard...that seemed like the true and sincere nature of the character.  Between coping with the situation around her and being herself, it is understandable that Juno McGuff could come off as a smart ass...but I found it endearing and one of the best aspects of her character.

And the rest of the cast was top notch.  Now, after seeing its strongest challenger (There Will Be Blood), I still stand by my previous statement that Juno was the best film of 2007.
