Hated Songs
« on: April 14, 2008, 09:46:12 PM »
Time to bring a spirit of pessimism into this otherwise cheery forum. What songs do you absolutely abhor, travesties or insults to music or pathetic imitation or whatever it may be?

I AM CHAIRMAN STEVE.

Someone's going to crucify me for this, but - American Pie.  I hate that song.  Maybe because it's overplayed, maybe because it drones on for 7+ minutes without doing anything interesting.  I get the whole theme of "the music dying" with Buddy Holly and all, but Don McLean would have better honored him and the other guys who died in that plane crash if he'd written a better song.

That reminds me of a few sections of Sigur Ros songs that really bother me.

At least 75% of the music that is currently popular with young people.  If I have to hear one more shitty rap song or god-awful pop/emo shit blaring out of someone's car windows at 3 o'clock in the morning on a TUESDAY I am going to lean out of my apartment's windows and paintball their damn cars.

Even if I have to buy a paintball gun to do it.

To be specific, though, there's a few that stick out in my mind right now as deserving obliteration: The Killers' "Somebody Told Me", one Fallout Boy song I can never understand the words to that got played a lot on the radio a while back, and that "My Humps" song.  Ugh.

The song "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" is quite popular amongst my peers, but I absolutely despise it with every fiber of my being.  Plus, his album Soulja Boy tellem.com (I don't care if I got the exact title wrong) has to be close to the top of the list for "Worst Album of the 00s".
"I believe every single person is extraordinary. The tragedy is that we
have a society where too many people never get to fulfill that
extraordinary potential. My view – the liberal view – is that
government’s job is to help them to do it. Not to tell people how to
live their lives. But to make their choices possible, to release their
potential, no matter who they are. The way to do that is to take power away from those who hoard it. To challenge vested interests. To break down privilege. To clear out the bottlenecks in our society that block opportunity and block progress. And so give everyone a chance to live the life they want." - Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Any emo, rap, or generally modern songs.

But of the songs in the genres I like, "Riders on the Storm". It's too quiet, and it's boring. At least with psychadelic 10 minute operas I get interested.

I have a deep hatred for Pink Floyd's "Seamus." Most of the rest of the album is decent, and Echoes is excellent, but this... is just useless. I don't care if the dog can sing blues.
