This post was about what people thought of the movie.  Before you say anything about the drug references and Lynch wouldn't use them, Frank from "Blue Velvet" was a carrying a bottle of nitrous oxide.  If Lynch had directed "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", he would have kept the drug referneces in.  The movie is great not because of the acting but because it gets right in your face about drug use.  It gives the feeling that you are right there and really did a good job converting the book to a movie.

He would have kept the drug references in because without them the movie would be five minutes long.

I don't think it would have even lasted that long.

To get back on the subject, when I walked out of the movie theater, I felt like I was on one of his drug trips.  That's saying something about the look and feel of how powerful the movie is.

The movie was great, but as some have said, the book was alot better. I wouldn't say it's so much "in your face" about drug use, as it is almost somewhat of a parody of the drug culture, a mockumentary of sorts.
 
 Most of Hunter S Thompsons writings deal with the darker side of humanity, presenting it in a satirical fashion. I've read quite a bit of his works, FNL and The Rum Diary being among my favs.

I'm actually not a fan of the movie.  It's only as good as the background stuff you know about it, not the movie in and of itself.

I finally saw Fear & Loathing a few days ago and loved it!  People I know were astounded that I'd never had the pleasure and my brother finally brought it over to my apartment to watch it.

In summary: a wonderful film.
