El Laberinto del fauno2006 - Guillermo del Toro
also known as:
Pan's Labyrinth
Guillermo del Toro has proven to be ranked high on my favorites.
For those who don't know, the Spanish 'lowlands', also known as Basque region, has some legends very similar to Ireland about fairies and stuff. We all had Celtic inheritance, but amasingly there are very different kinds of it. Anyway, i can quote from imdb:
In the fascist Spain of 1944, the bookish young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer escapes into an eerie but captivating fantasy world.
Pity there's too much curses and violence in the movie or it could be interpreted by children. But it's an allegory, for everyone.
This movie is highly recommended for those who like allegories, also those who like fairy tales, with fairies and all.
