Godzilla
« on: October 03, 2007, 05:56:35 PM »
As corny as they may be I love these movies. In fact the corniness adds to them in my opinion. Foam rubber monsters destroying cardboard cities.. fantastic. I also really like the morals that Godzilla has hidden into it. It was Godzilla who was woken and enraged by humans using the atomic bomb, and Godzilla decided to punish humanity with his terrible destruction. In later movies however when the Earth is threatened it is Godzilla (technology) who fights the other monsters larger then us.. Gigan, Rodan, King Ceasar.. (Disease, Natural Disasters, Poverty) and allows humanity to survive always knowing that Godzilla could awaken at any time.

If we abuse technology it can do great harm and threaten our very survival, if we use it wisely and in harmony with the earth however we can fight off any threat.

Also if you get the chance watch "Godzilla: Final Wars" it's one of the best combinations of the classic foam rubber suits and cardboard cities along side of computer generated graphics... plus it's a damn good story.

I don't think I've ever actually seen a Godzilla movie, but I remember watching one of the earliest versions of King Kong. Freakin' hilarious.

AAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!  IT'S GODZILAAAAAA!!!!

"I believe every single person is extraordinary. The tragedy is that we
have a society where too many people never get to fulfill that
extraordinary potential. My view – the liberal view – is that
government’s job is to help them to do it. Not to tell people how to
live their lives. But to make their choices possible, to release their
potential, no matter who they are. The way to do that is to take power away from those who hoard it. To challenge vested interests. To break down privilege. To clear out the bottlenecks in our society that block opportunity and block progress. And so give everyone a chance to live the life they want." - Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

After 9 years of avoiding the horrible North American Godzilla movie I finally saw the horrible North American Godzilla movie and damn was it horrible. Godzilla that was not. I do have more appreciation for Godzilla: Final Wars though in which they have the foam rubber Godzilla fight the computer generated NA Godzilla and when Godzilla smokes NA Godzilla in about 5 seconds the aliens watching the battle ask "What was that worthless thing?" or some such similar line  ;D

I was shocked to find that they were still making these things into the 21st century. And I though American cinema was depressing.

Even with computer graphics Kaiju eiga has remained true to it's form with still having the guy in the foam rubber suit smashing the cardboard city. It just gives the movies that perfect feeling of corny but still is quite enjoyable, that's why the american godzilla movie was so horrible, it tried to be all special effects and completely missed the point of the series which is that it's unreal enough that you have to let your imagination take over not to see the cardboard city and the guy in the suit, but a 200ft monster smashing the crap out of Japan.

Godzilla is teh r0xx0rz. I've at one point or another, seen all of the movies, and own quite a few of them on DVD. The American Godzilla movie though was an abomination, stupid giant fucking iguana running around then it suddenly goes into a fucking Jurassic Park knock off.

Anyone wanting to check out one of these movies, I'd recomend one of the following.

Godzilla:King of The Monsters (1954)
Godzilla vs Mothra (1964)
Godzilla - Mothra - King Ghidora: Giant Monsters All out Attack (a.k.a GMK---- 2003)
Godzilla: Final Wars (2005)

Final Wars was in fact supposed to be the last one. However, a new one is on the drawing boards, and will begin production in '08. Godzilla 3-D is supposed to be mostly an American work, in classic Godzilla style, they've brought on board the director of Godzilla vs. Hedorah (the most fucked up and.. arguably, creepy G-Movie) to direct the project. Definately looking forward to it.
