Calculus is useful. Without calculus there would be mathematicians who would have no way to make a living and they would be living in the streets trying to keep track of quarters bummed per hour and the average velocity of people passing them by.

Computers are very useful, in fact many of the people who post on this forum use computers. Even people who have no idea how computers work can find uses for them. Even need a good anchor for your boat? Stubborn walnuts won't crack open? Need something to hurl at co-workers? Computers can be used to solve all these problems too!
