Hey everybody, I'm Spencer, also the leader of Barceleroth. I'm new to NationStates, but I love studying government/history, and I'm really looking forward to having some fun here. Other than that, I apologize for the Beatles lyrics. :) (unless you're all a bunch of classic rock nuts like me. ;) ) And I hope to get to meet most of you sooner or later. Now let's PARTY!!! :drunks:
-
Welcome, and hope it's sooner!
-
Hey. Welcome to Taijitu.
Im not really a big Beatles fan, but I like the album I own (St. Peppers Lonley Hearts Club Band) and I like 70/80s stuff like Yes, Genesis, Steve Hackett, Phil Collins etc.
Is there any particular historical area/period you're interested in?
-
Hello and welcome!
* I like the Beatles' early stuff
-
Thanks for the welcome guys. About history, I'm up to my eye balls in American history, especially Constitutional/Civil War eras. I also enjoy the world wars, English history, and like every guy, medievil history. :) I'm also interested in Greek and Roman history, but I can only read for so many hours of the day. ;D
-
Ahh... Another fan of medieval and Greco-roman history. I assume The G-R history is mythology or is it an overview of the time and life of them?
In any case, Welcome! And join our marvelous RP section!
-
Why on Earth would you assume it's mythology? In my personal opinion the achievements of both the Roman as well as the Greek cultures of ancient times are far greater in their interest value than the mythology alone. After all, there's only so much you can care about the war of Troy, especially compared to Thermopylae, Teutoburg (yeah, I know, Roman stuff) and Salamis and what-not.
-
Like I said, I'm interested in Greco-Roman history, but if I told you that it was my most knowledgable subject, I'd be full of it. :) And Talmann, did you mean that everything besides an overview of the time and life of Greece/Rome is mythology? But thanks for the welcome. And if you meant role-playing by RP, I'm a complete novice, so I'd really appreciate it if anyone could give me some sort of overview.
-
In all brevity, in a RP you have characters and you narrate their actions and thoughts and others react to those actions with their own characters.
-
@ Sol-1st off: Troy isn't Mythology, per se. I meant the stories of the gods, they are the more humorous and intriguing of all the stories;
2nd: I know the culture of both civilizations, as well as their military accomplishments, were EXTREMELY important as a foundation for the modern world;
3rd: We're cluttering Barceleroth's Welcome thread. 3 strikes, we're out!
@ Bar- No I didn't mean that.. see above. And the how-to section, I think, has some overview on RP. But really all you do is make stuff up. Granted, there are rules on how far you can go, BUT... We'll tell you if you go too far. So have fun :)
-
thnx. Will do.
-
Yeah, you better. Anyone remember what we did to the last guy who wasn't having fun? Eh?
-
Oooo, thanks for the warning, Sol. ;D
I checked out the role playing area... I just wanted to double-check that nobody's going to jump on my back if I just jump in on the middle of one?
-
hello and welcome! :drunks:

I consider myself a classic rock nut. Didn't think there where many of us out there.

Start RPin!!! :fight: :drunks: O:-)

Hello and Welcome to Taijitu!!
-
Why hello! It looks like all the classic rock lovers are joining in the same week. The Beatles are absolutely fantastic. What's your favorite album? I can't stop listening to Revolver, personally. How do you like slightly more "recent" classic rock, like Led Zeppelin?
Also, Greco-Roman history is very interesting. I especially like the mythology (typical girl), but the real political/social history fascinates me as well. Any aspects you pursue specifically, or do you find it an intriguing period in general?
-
I checked out the role playing area... I just wanted to double-check that nobody's going to jump on my back if I just jump in on the middle of one?
Well, if you're going to jump in the middle of an already existing thread, people are most likely not going to like it if you don't ask for their permission to join their storyline. But if you're going to just start a new one, feel free to.
-
Thanks, Sol, that's exactly what I wanted to know.
And Allama, great minds think alike. ;) Revolver is definitely one of my favorites, of course along with Sergeant Pepper and the White Album. They're all classic. I love Zeppelin, AC/DC, Skynyrd, Clapton, all the legends. About Greco-Roman history, I read all I can get my hands on about the period in general. I'd say I most enjoy the aspects of Roman politics and Greek warfare. And mythology always makes for great reading.
And thanks for the welcome, everybody. Believe me, I've seen some forums that have more cliques than a high school. Taijitu is really refreshing, and I'm glad to be here.
