Title: Role Play Moderators
Post by: Zimmerwald on March 29, 2007, 10:44:12 PM
Please choose three potential moderators from this list.  This poll will remain open for a week.

I'd like to hear each candidate's reasons for being mod before posting my vote.  Some of us have already started but think it would be best to sum it all up here and even some Q & A for others like me, who are still on the fence about certain people.

well my basic case is my ability to think outside the box with my odd logic. plus i hold everyone to the same standards. any questions would be great.

Here are my reasons:

I only read the RP boards, and stay out of the rest of Taijitu politics (which gives objectivity) and a lot of OOC chatter in general.
I never played in the Lexicon, and thus don't have the history with people that that entails.
I've invested a lot into the RP world; notably expansion and economic RPs, the Decartes Stock Exchange, and shops.
I RP a conservative foreign policy, which was the reason I chose my island chain in the first place.
And I like to think that I have a unique way of RP'ing that emphasizes/mix storyline and expansion

...

As a moderator, I believe in the Lockian ideal that if you invest work into something, then its yours. So if you invest time/storyline into an RP expanding over an area, you should get it. And I'd prefer to see things resolved diplomatically, rather than by all-out/MAD war.

As far as real life political/economic views. Basically my biggest real life political/philosophical/thinker influences are John Locke, Edmund Burke, Adam Smith (and I realize the inherent contradiction in playing a nation called Mercantilist States :P), James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and Woodrow Wilson; though I have a bit of a Keynesian streak too. I'm a true "liberal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal)" in the sense of the word in that I believe in the right to life, free speech, equal rights for all, and the free market. Though break with libertarians in the belief in the right to unions and the right to education.

You can read my posts of G-C's Second Revolution debate thread to get an idea of how I think, and read my RPs. Also, I RP another nation on another forum (though, since I found this region spend most of my time here) which I wrote a pretty detailed Wiki for, South Nashville (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/South_Nashville), which has a lot of my world view sewn into it.

Though I know many are just going to ignore this speech and manifesto by just voting anyway without any thought in it whatsoever. I will continue striding my will of such a privilege to have my name in the voting ring.

St Oz is a different nation as some of you know, its power surpasses many nations around the Taijitu and after only expanding once for a manifest destiny and to end a civil brawl, The Ozians never again expanded but instead prevented other's expansions and sometimes promoted others. I have used brutish tactics such as scorching, burning, and poisoning entire cities. Despite this St Oz never expands itself and if I was a Myroria or a Bustos I'd probably own half the world by now.

Taijitu is a new place, full of new people as our determined and hardworking recruiters especially Pragmia and others sacrifice their time to bring in others. We have new comers who don't yet have that feeling of RP and making constructive posts. As a moderator, I and the others would work on Introductions Stickies to RP. So if a noobie asks us what the hell do you do? We just simply give a link to the sticky.

Since St Oz is vastly different to Saint Oz. I will not abuse the map in anyway to give me more growth.

I will not delete posts unless it is obscene and against the rules of this board. Deleting posts is never a good thing unless the author of the thread asks us to get rid of it.
to be continued...

Now, I choose to follow the good examples of Oz, Merc and G-C and write a short summary for myself.

Most of you have probably not heard too much about me but those who have talked to me over MSN and over PM knows that I can be reasoned with but can sometimes be more stubborn than a mule having a bad day.

I have not been very involved in RP here in Taijitu due to me loosing interest in RP-ing as a nation almost completely, thus I have held myself to my own initiation-thread, "Arrival"
As a person I actively try to look beyond my own personal bias and try looking at the greater picture.
As a mod, I would only intervene when asked or if a conflict gets out of hand in a way that results in OOC abuse and then by firstly contacting any involved parties via PM and then preferrably discussing measures with the other mods before acting.
Also, feel free to ask me anything and I promise that I will answer as truthfully and completely as I can.

I do not want to make a lengthy speech but, will answer any question posed to the best of my ability.  So I'll make this an easy read by stating my two strongest reasons.

Reason One:  Voting record in RP Council shows I have voted objectively, keeping personal feelings, politics, and IC situations from affecting my judgment.  In relation to that, my management of the Resource List (I know it needs an update-been working on developing a RP bank) has shown I've treated everyone fairly and gave no one special treatment, for better or worse.

Reason Two:  I spend alot of time on the forums.  In fact of all members I have spent the most time on the forums than the rest.  ;)  So I am very active in the forums and there is no worry I will suddenly go inactive for periods at a time.

*notices Simple's request to be taken off ballot.  will comply after Manifesto has been posted.  begins to type Manifesto.*

People find walls of text unattractive to the eye, and above all boring to read.  So I will try to remain succinct in stating my qualifications.

I have RP'd for a rather long time.  Saint Oz, and perhaps Bustos and King Rat The Empire, are the only people on the ballot who have RP'd longer than I have.  I believe this gives me the experience necessary to judge and adjudicate disputes, as most of the situations which crop up are likely repeats of older situations.  It also gives me perspective.  RP is entropic, ever-changing, formless.  What is innocent truth one day becomes blasphemy the next.  However, having RP'd for a while, I trust myself to maintain my positions, and to moderate honestly.

Which brings me to my next point.  Humans, by nature, have positions, have biases.  It is futile to deny them, and destructive to try.  That said, the best thing is to balance opposing interests.  In any dispute, there will be people who disagree, and one of these people will need someone to listen with a sympathetic ear.  Sometimes I will be that person, sometimes not.  Regardless, if someone comes to me for help, I will give it.  In debates between moderators, I will not hesitate to champion a certain viewpoint.

However, once a decision has been reached, I will enforce it.  In this respect, personal opinions and biases mean nothing; they belong to the realm of debate, and, while I am moderator, they will stay in the realm of debate.  I will never abuse my power for the sake of one faction or another; I will faithfully execute the collective decisions of the three moderators, for I will have had my share in shaping those decisions.

Please take a look to your left.  You will see a large purple ovoid with the word "judge" on it.  This means that the Executive of Taijitu believes me to be objective and logical in my decision-making.  As I said, I am not, in debates, objective.  However, considering the facts is a necessary characteristic for a judge, and one I will bring to moderation.  You will never see me simply dismiss a fact.  Argue against it yes.  Argue against it with short, fallacy-riddled posts when I am sleepy, yes.  But when a dispute comes before me, and you can prove that an incident occured, it will always be considered.

As I said, I have RP'd for a long time.  During that time, I have not sought a position of power within RP.  However, I now believe that I am needed; that RP needs someone who will take positions, but not neglect his duty.  If you vote for me, that is what you will get.

And yes, I realize this might be considered a wall of text, but it might just be worth it.

Ok... right, G-C. Well. I have not been around quite as long as most of these candidates, however, I try to RP as much as I possibly can, because I find it fun. And that's really what RP should be, fun. Therefore, I will try and keep RP as fun as it can. Mind you this doesn't mean that everyone will win all the time, someone must lose sometimes. I also will be looking at the threads to see if a conquest is legit or not. As for my kind of judgement, I try and stay non-biased. I mean, yes, I grew up in Texas, so my gut reaction is conservative capitalist. I try to repress this whenever I get on, so... yah.

Since I am horrible at endings, here's one commonly used: Vote for me!   :taijitu:

Post by: Bustos on April 01, 2007, 07:29:15 PM
Incase people cared, my reasons for my vote choices:

Bustos:  Naturally, I'd vote for myself.

The Empire:  Not very involved in the RP forums in general for me to consider voting to be a mod.

Gallipoli-China:  Voted for due to high and longtime RP forum involvement and Amy's backing as a Supreme Court Justice.

Mercantilist States:  While very involved, too "young" of a RP player for me to consider voting to be a mod.

PUR:  My last vote fell between Merc and PUR.  Choose PUR due to being very "different" in opinions and views than everyone else on the list.  A fresh mind with creativity would benefit the moderating team.

St Oz:  Has overstepped boundries as a moderator in the past so I do not want to grant him more authority.

Talmann:  Not very involved in the RP forums in general and too "young" of a RP player for me to consider voting to be a mod.

Nothing personal to all candidates.

None taken, Bustos. I realized that as one of my flaws, and knew some would not vote for me because of it.

Post by: St Oz on April 02, 2007, 01:13:37 AM
Bustos: biased and imperialistic, Bustos isn't neutral at all. If I do remember in lexicon, since Bustos decides to use the past against me. Bustos and his pal Baltija basically killed RP after the PLTO-LSP War by making God-moddish posts and having armies too huge to be realistic?

The Empire:  By not being involved into RP he has a highly neutral role and doesn't take on any side for personal gain.

Gallipoli-China: GC's a good guy. Though I thought he was a pussy and coward at first he's gotten better at RP after we beat him around a bit.

Mercantilist States: young and imperialistic

PUR: After RPing in her civil war I wad disappointed with the ending.

St Oz:  Has overstepped boundries kept douche-bag abusive imperialists on a leash as a moderator in the past so I do not want to grant him more good authority because Oz has a realistic appeal to him.

Talmann:  cool guy but I haven't seen him much around RP. Would be my choice if I had 4 choices.

Bustos: voted for.  Basically, I accept the three-mod, ideologically based system.  So, of course, I have to vote for my antithesis.  Bustos is an imperialist, capitalist, pig-dog, and so he needs to be on the Mod board.

The Empire:  did not vote for.  My problem with him is that he hasn't been very active in RP for...quite a while.  Now, while I have no problem with this personally, it might make him unfamiliar and inaccessable to newer players.

Gallipoli-China: voted for.  I read my statement, and for some reason believed every word of it.  Go figure O:-)

Mercantilist States: did not vote for.

PUR: did not vote for.  If I accept the ideologically based model, I can't vote for two Leftists.

St Oz: voted for.  He has experience moderating the RP forum, and, while he has been divisive in the past, we need someone who can really revitalize RP.  Which, to be honest, has grown kind of stagnant.

Talmann:  did not vote for.  Now, Talmann would have been my fourth choice.  But he's been less than active recently, and he suffers from the same problem as the Empire.

Bustos: voted for. basicly i see bustos as a rather pragmatic indevidual, he is laid back about what people are like IRL and tends to make decisions i can agree with.

The Empire:  did not vote for.  he hasn't been active with the overall RP since the times of the lexicon, where he was quite good. just not quite up to his former glory.

Gallipoli-China: voted for.  he is hella good at writing out long responses that cover nearly every detail that needs to be covered. so when he gives a reason he gives it his all.

Mercantilist States: did not vote for. just too young of an RPer.

PUR: voted for.  hell if i don't vote for me then why should anyone else..

St Oz: did not vote for.  again i agree with bustos. stepped over the line too many times in the past.

Talmann:  did not vote for.  just not the strongest views. too easily swayed.

I have received a PM regarding this.

I am not doing anything about it now for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I am very ill, and exhausted and have to be up again for work in a little over 5 hours time. Secondly, I know nothing about this. All I know is what I've been told in the PM. I do not have the time right now to read this thread, so I'll do it as soon as I can within the next 24 hours. If not, PM Elu or Pragmia.

I'm sorry I can't do anything right now....but I promise that it'll be sorted out within the next 24 hours for you guys.
