I've been working this weekend on a compliment to the map that works on Celestia, a space viewing program. It's the Taijitu A System, five planets orbiting a large yellow star 5 light years from the Sun. Taijitu E, the second farthest away, is our planet. The attachment to it is below. Before you download this, download Celestia if you don't have it already. Once you've got it, go to My Computer-Local Disk-Program Files-Celestia-Extras, and put this folder in Extras. Everything should be ready for usage then. Just ask me if you want a spaceship somewhere in the system that's not already there. When I update this, I'll post a new attachment with the same things in it as the first one, just with the updated material there also. Just do the same thing I described above.
-
So, is this working? Hibernia said it wasn't for him, so I want to know if I zipped it wrong or something.
-
Just can't figure how to run the file itself.
-
can you update it with the national borders on it? That would be interesting to see.
Also, More planets!!! :D (outer planets preferrably)
And I'd like my stations/hubble telescope to actually move :D
-
I thought I heard someone saying no spaceships/no post-modern tech a while ago ::)
-
lol they're just pictures silly
-

If you installed it right, all you should have to do is click enter/return, type in "Taijitu A", and then click enter/return again.

Well, about your first question, I never did that because I believed that would make it look less like a planet orbiting a star and more like a globe on a desk. Though, if all the people use this reach a consensus on that point, I will add the national borders.
:D Ok. I'll add more planets.
Click "K" to slow time and "L" to speed up time. You'll see them orbiting the planet better than in real time.
-
Celest doesnt read any of the files in your zip. What am I missing?
-
Are you sure you installed it right? All you should have to do is drag the folder "Taijituan System" into the "extras" folder, start up Celestia, and click enter, type "Taijitu A", then click enter again.
-
Ah, thats wha I needed to do. Definitely gives a unique view of the world.
-
Right click the star to get a list of all the things orbiting it. You can do this with the planets too.
-
Hey wana add a Shuttle and a space station? as well as two satilites? Names - Station: Thor; Shuttle: Apollo; Stalite 1: Alouette 1; Stalite 2: Alouette 2. also can you add a telescope? if so can you name it Tyrol
Thanks :P
~Thanato
-
1. Futuristic shuttle or like the space shuttle?
2. ISS/Mir like space station?
If you choose a Mir like space station and a NASA Space Shuttle, I can actually get a model of your space station and space shuttle linking up for a mission.
-
Suprise me

What are you, Austrian? ;D
-
whoa whoa whoa, theres planets in here? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
-
Yeah...we're all not just floating around. :D :P
-
What are you, Austrian? ;D
Nope Canadian :D

ahhh thats why i like you eh?
-
You should like me... I'm the only liberal south of the Red River!
-
of course i like you oz.... you make such nice comments.
-
I love the catz XD
-
Ze catz... they love to fly!
-
i want a spaceship, so huge that it can never land on a planet and has its own moon! could ya swing that?
and i am for putting the nation borders on the globe.
-
That's kind of future tech. I can't do that, sorry.
Oh, and the next release will come soon. I'm adding moons to other planets right now.
-
i love ze cats too St. Oz :D
-
how bout a space station? mmm?
-
Sure. Does it have a name?
-
it is named ST.OZ
-
wayfarer one- Shagras space hub and laboratory, designed to advance Taijituan technology and prepare the peoples of this new world for inevidable ovurpopulation and possible expansion to neighboring moons and distant planets. the massive station acts as a Hub for refueling spaceships, a resort for the rich and famous, an experimental habitat to further understand the impact of zero gravity among the many different races of taijitu, and lastly a training center for astronauts and launch point for new and exciting missions into space.
eh? eh?
-
it is named ST.OZ
-
Ok.
-
yay!
-
:)
-
;D
-
:D
-
Just looking at the size of the not even completed file now...it's huge. Huge. For those of you with slow computers, I can make a version with just Taijitu, Selene, and spacecraft orbiting around a star if you still want the Celestia file.
-
:)
-
big or small we want it lol
-
that rhymes ;D
-
Double posting! bad BOY!
-
SILENCE INSOLENT ONE! ;D
-
No :D
-
Rozarria you're one to talk, you quadropal posted in my map thread
-
i really like the system so far, but as we've heard before people want more planets and some spaceships, (oh and political borders on taijitu)
im wondering if you could give us a rough estimate of when your updates will be completed?
-
By Wednesday. And we still have not come to a consensus about the borders, so those stay off for this update.
-
So, whats with the wierd ring shadow on Taijitu C?
Pic:

Hope it's bright enough.
-
Yeah, it was because I programmed the rings wrong. In the latest update it's all fixed.
-
I also believe that our planets lack that all important thing: names :P
Now, I'm pretty sure that "Taijitu E" is going to be "Taijitu"
-
i am in favor of political borders.
-

-
I am in favour of political borders....
I just dowloaded it and celestia....it's so pretty and shiny.....makes me want to start a proper space program for Daimiaena
-
Pragmia, they have names in this update. By order from closest to the star to the farthest:
Daedalus (star)
Althea
Calypso
Orestes
Taijitu
Prometheus
Persephone
Nemesis
Polyhymnia
Herakles
Epimetheus (outer body/asteroid)
Encedalus (outer body/asteroid)
Cers (outer body/asteroid)
Helios (spacecraft)
A quick fact about each planet:
Althea is the closest planet to the star. It is Taijitu's version of Mercury, except it has active volcanoes and is much more volatile. The only reason it hasn't been ripped apart by Daedalus' gravity is because it is a large planet; larger than Jupiter in fact.
Calypso is the second closest planet to Daedalus. It is our version of Saturn, except the rings aren't as spectacular as the latter's. It is also very hot, hotter than Venus, but not as hot as Althea.
Orestes is the Earth of the Taijituan System. At least, it was until the sapient beings allowed their ambitions to run wild, causing the planet's oceans to dry up and the planet to become uninhabitable some time as intelligent life was forming on Taijitu. Yes, I'm assuming that we once weren't the only intelligent beings in this solar system. Orestes is our version of Atlantis. THE ORESTIAN CIVILIZATION IS DEAD, THEY WILL HAVE NO PART IN ANY RP, NOW OR FUTURE.
Taijitu is the second chance space gave this system for life. It is colder then Earth overall, but still habitable. It is currently the only place known in the universe to support life.
Prometheus is the "Forgotten Planet". It is the second gas giant in this system; a light green color. It is calm for a gas giant; little is known about it's functions or the mysterious absence of many atmospheric storms.
Persephone is the largest gas giant known. This thing is INSANELY huge. If it wasn't for Persephone, comets that drifted from the Oort Cloud would never have been caught by it's gravity and sent into the inner solar system, providing needed water. Persephone is the bringer of life.
Nemesis is the Pluto of our system. It is covered in a thick layer of ice, but it is not known at this time if it is water or land underneath it. Myroria's Celestial Orbiter sent there hopes to reveal more questions about its surface.
Polyhymnia is a strange planet overall. It is covered with impact craters and is the first planet to reach into the double digits of the Kelvin scale, but it has a thin atmosphere made up of mostly methane. It is only 2,000 kilometers in circumference.
Herakles is the coldest planet. At only 73 Kelvin, it is the least survivable planet. Nothing is really known about it.

I want a space station too:
"Illumina XIII" - Feniexias space station. Feniexia is building and testing new kinds of Space Ships and other space tech there, and on it, there´s a big telescope to look into deeper space...
It is built on a little asteroide orbiting Herakles.
DIT: Please, I want Heracles, not Polyhymna. Thank you.
-
That's a little unrealistic. Not to mention damaging to an astronaut's psyche by not seeing their home planet for months on end.
-
Hmm...yes, they might get a bit claustrophobic up there, but the Feniexians up there are the best trained military people and scientists who can be found in Feniexia and they surely can stand this.
Unrealistic? I don´t think so - a moon is also not much more than a asteroide and it can be colonized. And you are space colonizing too. Plus, it´s just some kind of combination of a space station, a huge telescope, a spacecraft testing area, a space craft shipyard and a research station. NASA could build something like that too.
-
Fine, but keep in mind that if an accident happens it would take years to get there and that they might be depressed of seeing nothing but a blue dot for their home.
And the update will come later today; I'm just gonna let it upload while I go out to eat tonight, it'll take probably 10-15 minutes to upload, and it'll be in separate parts.
-
Yes. That´s why they´re equipped for almost all kinds of accidents. Oh, and all five years, a space shuttle bring them some new equipment. Maybe I start a RP thread soon for this station.
-
Many things go wrong during missions, Plus even being trained many astronauts feel that feeling when they're up in space for a long time. On an astroid they will be out of contact many times, not to mention you have to have enough food up there, they're moving at rapid speeds, solar storms, space debris collisions, and even your astroid getting caught onto another planet's gravity and having that space station get eaten up by a planet. A waste of money, people, and resources. Even if it was future people wouldn't even do it.
-
Ok, the update will come tomorrow, I PROMISE. Unless my laptop goes to sleep while uploading it. But hopefully it won't take that long.
-
Hmm...then let it be one of Heracles moons. That´s more stable than a asteroid. Are here no ways to grow up food in a space station big enough? It have to be for 20 people, that´s not THAT much....
-
Calypso is the second closest planet to Daedalus. It is our version of Saturn, except the rings aren't as spectacular as the latter's. It is also very hot, hotter than Venus, but not as hot as Althea.
Just to point out, having a gaseous planet so close to the star in a single-star solar system flies in the face of solar system formation theory.
-
Hot Jupiters (also called roasters, pegasids, Pegasi planets or Pegasean planets) are a class of extrasolar planets whose mass is close to or exceeds that of Jupiter (1.9 × 1027 kg), but unlike in our own solar system, where Jupiter orbits at 5 AU, the planets referred to as Hot Jupiters orbit within approximately 0.05 AU of their parent stars. In comparison, a Hot Jupiter is about eight times closer to its star than Mercury is to the Sun.
Completely possible.
-
Although not stated explicitly in that article, I think 'hot jupiters' have a solid core given that they can turn into cthonian planets. Here's the wiki on solar system formation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_nebula#Overview_of_the_solar_nebula_hypothesis
-
A Chthonian planet (sometimes misspelled Cthonian), is a hypothetical class of celestial objects resulting from the stripping away of a gas giant's hydrogen and helium atmosphere.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chthonian_planet
-
heh, didn't read further down that article
Challenges to the hypothesis
The current challenges for the nebular hypothesis include explaining:
1. missing mass in Kuiper Belt
2. capture process for Triton
3. sideways rotation of Uranus
4. discovered "hot Jupiter" exoplanets
5. discovered exoplanets in binary and trinary stellar systems
Completely possible.
Fair enough.
-
isn't Wiki kinda a bad source to use as a resource to prove things since its not checked and u can basicaly make up anything on it. none of my classes let anyone or anything from wiki to be used for its lack of fact checkers...or am i just worng, wouldnt be the first time

oh and can i have something in space to even though i havnt gotten the 30 posts to get on the map yet?
-
Wikipedia has been compared to Encyclopedia Brittanica, and any vandalism is reverted (on average) in 5 minutes. And you can have something in space, what do you want? Thanks for reminding me by the way, I'll update this once you tell me and I add it.
-
We'll with this solar system I'm confused as to why three planets are so close to each other. I think they should me more spread apart, I mean if they're larger planets wouldn't our planet get destroyed by the conflicting gravity? Sort of like the astroid belt between Jupiter and Mars....
-
What three planets are you refering too?
-
I'm so cool lol
-
Can you not randomly spam my thread?
-
Okay (mumbles: Think hes all that and bag of chip but he's NOT!)
-
Whatever.
