Litar had long history of naval industry, and some of the most emblematic ships of New Delfos were created in Litar. But now it was the theater of international creation, more specifically, the own Aurorean Super Carrier.
All representatives, designers, engineers and all the sort were called to be gathered in Litar, at the offices of NDNF near the Litar Industrial Complex.
Here to discuss propositions first, technical data, and sharing designs for the structure. The Aurorean Diamond Class Super Carrier had to be perfect.
"We should start by discussing the capacity of this carrier, and what vehicles you might want to see fit into."

"New Delfos Naval Force is proposing a Short Take Off But Arrested Recovery version of modern Catapult Assisted Take Off But Arrested Recovery, since we have great use in aircraft that are capable of Short Take Off with Sky Jumping ramp, specially because of it's polivalent characteristics. Basically the difference is instead of spending technical space for the Catapult Assisted Take Off, we build a long enough ramp for Short Take Off. This is a problem NDNF had for several years, the planes in interest only had one class where they could work, the original design from Xyrael. It's hard to find carriers large enough and good enough for our planes, and even more rare to find sky jumping ramps for short take offs in such large carriers. If you use other planes that do not require the ramp or rather use Catapult system, please do, but we're very interested that this Aurorean Diamond Class Super Carrier has STOBAR system."
-
We have no problems with using the STOBAR system.

"The Valideen Navy has the most experience when it comes to Carriers in this Alliance. Currently we operate four CATOBAR super carriers along with another 6 CATOBAR Fleet carriers, then 4 CATOBAR Escort Carriers. One super carrier in the Valideen Navy operates close to 90 combat aircraft, including Jets and helicopters. Currently we are doing our own research and development in a next generation Super Carrier. We are willing to share some of our research with this project. I would also reccomend we develop a naval fighter to go along with this aircraft Carrier."

ooc: Last time I made a reply the forum went nuts, so I'll be short now.
We like the idea of a new naval fighter, but let's leave it for the aircraft experts.
We suggest Valideen Navy to join their carrier project with all of us but, in the end, their structure will be fitted to CATOBAR, since the overall structure doesn't have much difference. The Valideen Navy will have to present their planned CATOBAR version of the Auro-Diamond Class carrier, so that any of us can build our own Auro-Diamiond CATOBAR carrier from Valideen plans if desired.
We want this carrier to have at least 2 deck floors, the middle being a large hangar capable of transporting 50 or more aircraft, including helicopters, small UAV and medium sized AWACS and, of course, many fighters.
The real discussion is the propulsion, as ND Supreme Council is pressing the Naval Force to not even think of Nuclear propulsion. Well, there's viable alternatives, but we would like to hear from your perspective, what are your plans?
-
The Valideen Navy Operates Nuclear power plants in our current Super Carriers, along with two classes of Submarines and will be operating them in our new Imperium Class Aircraft Carriers. However for this carrier we are willing to use another source of power for these carriers as the overall planed design will be smaller then the Imperium. The Valideen Navy is experimenting with a diesel/Fuel Cell powered Destroyer. The prototype is currently under construction in Vala heavy Industries Fleet Yards in New Sheridian.

Or we can push it to the edge of Beta-ray energy. But it's still experimental, using nuclear fission waste to accumulate power.
Dielse is our best official proposition, but I don't know, if Collosean representative agrees we can move on with diesel.
-
Actually, we would prefer diesel over nuclear power.
-
Alright, Diesel it is.
There can be 1 STO runway with more plane capacity on top of the carrier, but shouldn't we getting more than 50 planes? Maybe the lenght can be around 300 meters affording a 50 aircraft storage, 20 or 30 more in overloading, giving this overload to the top of the carrier, 20 or 30 planes parked on top. What do you think?
-
To make the cost of diesel cheep enough to make a carrier run I would recommend the size be around 250 meters or so, much larger it will require large amounts of diesel to run though the water.
~Thanato
-
I was thinking more on Gas Turbines, they seem more reliable, and they can be boosted with 4 diesel electric... It's environmentally acceptable and the only downside to the high rotations is the high consumption, but it's still viable, what do you think?
RR MT30 (36MW)
http://www.rolls-royce.com/marine/downloads/market/naval_range.pdf
-
What about the situation of re-fueling in war? We can not have the carrier vunerlable with low fuel or needing to be re-fuel every 10 minutes.
-
It's an aircraft carrier, not a strike craft. The MT30s have enough performance for short-of-supplies theater, they run in methane gas, and it's really cheap. I don't think choosing from nuclear reactors to gas turbines+diesel electric is going to be any problem.
-
Ok, and the safety of the methane gas in the event of a hit on the carrier?
-
I guess it's safer than being hit running a nuclear reactor or fuel cells. We haven't yet reached the defenses plan for this carrier, I'm sure we can agree on the best defense for self-protective actions, of course it's unwise to leave a carrier like this alone in the wild, but it would be the same or riskier with nuclear reactors or fuel cells. We can ensure you that this engines will do a perfect job, but as said before, if we're all willing to plan nuclear reactors, it's ok, actually any propeller will be ok as long we have room and money for it.
-
I would like to say that we have had no negative effects running a Nuclear Powered Warship when it comes to damage.
~Thanato
-
Neither did we running similar turbines anywhere or diesel-electric ships and subs.
-
Can we agree on the propulsion?
2x RR MT-30 Gas Turbine and 4x Diesel Electric backups?
2x Naval sized Nuclear Reactor? (yet to be determined)
Very Expensive Research on Nuclear Processed Beta-ray batteries?
In case you need to know what a beta-ray battery is, it's an experimental process to use nuclear fusioned material that has it's own energy and use it till it fades, takes around 25 years to fade, 12 and so years to fade to half the energy.
It's nice, but...creating enough material to fill a battery for a carrier might not be very economic or even possible. Probably better if we stick with the ensured working ways.
-
Im saying 2x Naval sized Nuclear Reactor because of the safety issue of fuel carrying on board.
-
We could have the carrier be modular, take both the Nuclear the the Diesel engines. Validus perfers nuclear because its clean and easy and in the long run cheaper then Diesel.
~Thanato
-
Yes, anyone can fit those modules. Nuclear is our prime project, with variant for gas turbofan and diesel-electric engines.
-
What are the numbers in terms of crew per ship?
My nation approved the design with modules and nuclear engines.
-
2000/3000 somewhere around that.
We could discuss the armament now.
-
What class is the carrier going to be?
If a large carrier, i am correct is assuming that my nation is given the light carrier from your nation in exchange for helping with this project?
-
it's a super-carrier, it probably won't be the largest (smaller than Nimitz class), but will be the largest STOBAR carrier made.
Yes we're making the details of our contract, your representatives have expressed interest in helping but they wouldn't need a large carrier, so in exchange for a small portion of the project budget and no deliveries, together with the electric installation that we've heard your technicians were very good at, ND will offer the Navirsk Carrier, a small light carrier.

Looks like this
-
I would recommend that we have a mix of Close in Mini guns and longer range Missiles, all in the anti fighter/missile role. No anti ship missiles as it takes space on the deck, and that this ship wont be traveling by its self and will have a strike group with it.
We recommend either the Phalanx CIWS or the Goalkeeper CIWS, and the RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile as well as the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile.
~Thanato
-
ooc: good approach, I like the American RAMs but maybe we can have the Russian version of phalanx.
CIWS
Goalkeeper CIWS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goalkeeper_CIWS) - agreed
Kashtan M CIWS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashtan) - secondary proposal
AA system
Principal Anti Air Missile System (PAAMS) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAAMS) - proposal
+ SYLVER A-50 launcher (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SYLVER_launcher) - proposal
++ AA Aster missiles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MBDA_Aster) - proposal
Manned portable AA weapon
Mistral (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mistral_missile) - proposal
RAM (maybe ruling out RAM for the armament above?)
RIM-162 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIM-162_ESSM) - dismissal?

even without knowing Russian, they're both very impressive.

Bear in mind a Super carrier will be carrying a huge amount of aviation fuel and explosives so worrying about the safety of any conventional fuel seems a little unnecessary. We have slight issues with nuclear powered ships and considering the strategic location of the Selid republic and the fact that it will therefore probably be a major location for Coalition forces specifically naval forces.
