SW is and probably will be the singular most over fucking rated thing on the planet. If the movie has shit getting blown up real good and is fun, then I could not care less if they butt fuck the cannon nine ways from sunday.

Most likely there will be a metric ass tonne of whining whether the movie is good or not because it's one of those things where someone somewhere will find something to whine about.

Then it gets Marvelitis from all these sequels and spinoffs they're planing.

I think it'll be like JJ's Star Trek. If you look back, it's not that great of a movie, but yeah you'd recommend to your friends and watch it again depending on your nerd-gauge result.

Come on... just watch JJ's Star Trek again, I dare you, it's music, visual effects and mediocre acting. It's still nice, I like the effects and how the movie is put together...NOT 10/10!

I think it'll be pretty good but only really good once it is in context with its own trilogy. Also nothing wrong with Marvelitis, if they do with SW what they've done with the MCU I'll be immensely happy about it.

if you don't care for spoilers, reviews seem pretty good, I'll watch it in a couple of days anyway.

Marvelitis? ewwww

Other: Hype makes bucks.

When my dad and his mates went to see the first Star Wars movie (I think its called #IV now), it was really something new and revolutionary with its graphics, story &c, and according to him it blew them away. I can sort of understand that they were awed, but now there are tons of SF-movies with cool CG, so they really have to come up with a spectacular story to make a mark.

(Sorry, I forgot some of you dudes are my dad's age... )  O:-)

Nope, we're just nerds. Unless you're under 10 years old, it might technically be possible one of us being your dad's age. I mean...the majority, I bet BBB could be your grandfather lol

I Think it kind of succeeded in the story department though it felt very much like it's not a full chapter of it unlike each film of the original trilogy and had a bit of a copy-paste feel while the characters were mostly better, at least better than episode one...

Har.  :P

So I saw this last night.  I have two friends who are SW nerds. I like the series, but I didn't see it as a kid when most of my friends did (I was 4 when it came out in theaters).

All that to say I really liked this movie.  Seemed like the perfect mix of nostalgia stuff and new stuff.  Old characters actually integrated into the new story rather than just being tacked on (aka Spock in ST).  Daisy Ridley is fantastic. Adam Driver and Boyega also give memorable performances.

I'm interested to hear what others think cuz everyone will haz an opinion. Like this unfortunate dude: http://www.pedestrian.tv/news/entertainment/read-this-brutal-review-of-the-first-star-wars-fil/7286e83b-3759-4e0f-83ca-f612b9fcb523.htm

Meh, after seeing it I agree with most of this review: The Force Awakens Is Everything You Could Hope for in a Star Wars Movieā€”and Less
"While there are elements that feel special and fresh, mostly The Force Awakens strives to please instead of surprise."

Re-using the same old story is fun if you can twist and surprise...like JJ's Star Trek, this is quite the opposite. I mean, I'd love to see the "end of the old Republic" with a Sith Invasion on the "New" Republic, but no...it's just a New Hope with all the stories combined, it's like all the episodes (excl. prequels) mated and had a baby, and it's like the ugly one...hopefully his following brothers will be prettier, and it quite promises on that...let's just hope it's actually new.
