Well, we have too many beaches so I'd say it's quite normal people know how to swim...or at least know how to not drown. Surprisingly, we keep hearing stories that fishermen and those who have sea-professions do not know how to swim, maybe it's the "being on a boat" mentality, idk.

I know how to swim, but dislike water outside a glass.

I didn't learn to swim until senior year in high school. I definitely tried, as did my dad. Not a pleasant experience, lol. My school opened it's pool I think for the first time in my senior year and I took a swimming class. So I learned without being thrown into the deep end and told "Swim!" xD

I know my state is surrounded by water on 3 sides, but it would not be smart to swim in the Detroit River, heh.

I am able to not-die in water. "swim" is such a strong term

Funny, I thought I might be the only one in the "sort of" category.  :D

I like swimming, fun and a good exercise. Unfortunately it is only possible to swim where I live during june-august (at best), the rest of the year it is to cold (or frozen over). When I lived in Spain though, I could spend hours in the pool.

Having grown up lakeside I have been a strong swimmer as long as I can recall, I used to be really confused by the idea that some people don't know how to swim.
