Timeline Retcon?
« on: January 08, 2015, 03:45:26 AM »
So I am contemplating a Retcon of my timeline, pushing events like the overthrow of the Library earlier in my timeline. However this would affect a certain current(ly stalled) piece (i.e.Conference). I feel the lack of historical interaction with my nation and others to be problematic as well. Any thoughts my comrades?

I think as long as we're all aware of the retcon we could just continue the Conference with the new Khem; alternatively, we could restart the conference but expedite its beginning, i.e., eliminate the character introduction and start at the beginning of negotiations.

As for historical interaction; I'm not sure exactly what you had in mind for the new Khem, but with the Myroria of the new map being a backwards, insular part of the Ozian Empire for so long I think I'd have less interaction with you anyway. Eluvatar or Oz might be able to work something out, though.

Well, it would depend a lot on what interactions you are looking for, how far back you're going, and the goal of this retcon.  As Myroria implied, your intentions are quite vague.

The Allied States would be able to interact from 1780 and on.   :drunks:

For the record, I abstain until further details are shared.

Mostly my goal is to focus more on the post-revolutionary civilization of Khem. Otherwise I am more open to ideas, just not digging the rigidity of it ya know?

EDIT: I am thinking something like a mix of Costa Rica and the United Arab Emirates, Keeping the Great Library as religious schools but toning down the church influence in the political system. Elimination of the caste system having happened in late 1800's. Debating between more socialist or capitalist. Going to add another ethnic group, the al'Ta and perhaps a few others for more ethnic diversity.

Did you have a time period in mind at all for the revolution? Depending on how extreme/creepy to the Myrorian govt it is they might support it, especially if they see a post-revolutionary Khem becoming useful to them.

I dont know if this helps but...

My advice would be to think of the 2015 al' Khem you want and who you'd want strong ties with.  Also, I'd say, if making changes will increase your motivation to be active, then do it.  RP what you like.  Plus its still early and nothing major (involving alot of nations) has occured.

2015:  The Allied States, for example, hates no one and loves no one.  We'll do business with whoever, regardless of political and cultural differences.  However this could change.  With the lack of an active RP, we're keeping all of our options open in regards to who we'd support in times of duress and who we wouldn't.

What I have so far, I could use help filling in some blanks. Maybe with actions of your own nation historically:

100KA BCE: Habitation of the islands of Khem by the Al’Ta people after the [great disaster]. They begin to develop independently of external influence.
19KA BCE: Evidence of the first Al’Khem agrarian villages, a noted difference with Al’Ta fishing villages.
8000 BCE: First evidence of Chinampas and Hugelkultur Cultivation in the villages of the Ser'ev. Al’Ta food forests adopted by Al’Khem.
Dakhma first used in disposal of corpses by Da'kun. Later versions of this structure are much larger due to a growing population.
3900 BCE: Beginnings of the Path of Truth, the Ankesh tablets erected.
3500 BCE: Gahk'ell first domesticated in Khem.
3100 BCE: The Sindar capture villages of Khem and force them into slavery for seventy generations later these people would be known as the Da’Kavo.
2500 BCE: Bhaang first found in use among the lower castes of Khem, soon brought into use by the Library of Truth.
Hanging Gardens first created in Kannabarus, a living love poem to a Praemian princess by the sultan Kl’war’nghe.
2400 BCE: The triplets known as the Hermetica are simultaneously crucified on three islands of Khem, they were considered one person and deified afterward.
2000 BCE: Construction of the first Great Library and its tradition of architectural wonder on Lake Haali. Curiously also the first evidence of coca use.
100-234 CE: Pelagian invasion of Al’Khem, punctuated by short lived victories and territory constantly shifting between factions.
250 CE: Eruvist cults discovered by the Great Library of Carcossa, the Akasa’Datu Da’Kavo are formed to root them out.
600 CE: The first attempt of Akasa'Datu Da'Kavo to steal the Whispers, the Akasa’Datu are hunted down by Videnti after barely escaping the tower. Beginning of strained relations.
600 CE: Ozians blockade Khem in revenge for the Whispers incident.
610 CE: Khems make amends for the incident with offers of gold and spices.
810 CE: Khemish shipyards boom with activity as The Library invests heavily in the Apa’Datu Da’Kavo and their shipping schemes.
1432 CE: The Great Library codifies “Servile Rights” for the first time. This puts an end to Khemish involvement in the slave trade as a supplier and instead the nation focuses on importation of slaves and transition into the servile caste.
1400-1500 CE: Naval battles with Eluvatar.
1605 CE: East Cefnor Company set up by Eluvataran merchant family.
1770 CE: Khemish industrial revolution.
1850 CE: Violent riots among the working poor, mostly focused on foreign factory owners, bankers and slumlords.
1899 CE: al'Khem joins the Great War, siding with the Northern Alliance.
1914 CE: Librarian Nek'ko Tes'h'la develops alternating current bringing also the electrification of Khemish cities with the Gentu River Project. Hydroelectric power becomes a reality.
1926 CE: Ozian Communists spread propaganda in Khem, civil unrest rises.

DAY-UM...history goes WAY WAY back.

Looks good.

Edit:  This is a short draft I had written after we talked about Kallisti.  Let me know what you think.  I didnt get too deep because I wanted to adapt him to your history.

Kallisti Health was opened by an apothecary who focused on developing medicines in al' Khem.

After the formation of the Allied States, Kallisti, an apothecary, left and traveled the Cefnor Basin.  He began his quest for creating a collection of recipes to create medicines.  His infamous book was called, De Materia Medica (On Medical Material), published in 1787.  It expanded into several volumes that he further published over his lifetime.  The volumes covered a wide range of plant and animal material, their properties, proper preparations, uses, and recipes for medicines and poisons.

Al' Khem's liberal, and almost obligatory, use of a variety of medicines attracted Kallisti to move there and set up an apothecary shop.  The shop funded his experiments at creating new medicines.  He grew close to the locals and became involved with their protests and revolts.

Edit:  Added a bit more.

Supplying the locals, during the protests and revolts, required increased production capability and raw materials.  He acquired chemical factories, built larger laboratories, bought tracts of land, and modernized his medicine production in the process.  His family continued ownership, and his legacy, creating a newborn pharmaceutical company.  The diversity of Kallisti Health, able to create chemical materials, grow medicinal crops, create base medicinal materials, conduct research and development across various scientific fields, and of course, create drugs for various purposes, lead the name to be changed to Kallisti Group.

Works for me mostly, though to be noted is the island and mountain that both bear the name Kallisti.
"Islands and Island Groups: Apeiros, Mount Kallisti, Khem'al, Mausoka, Outlying Islands"
"Highest point: Mount Kallisti 3023M"
Perhaps an earned/adopted name? Contemplating having it mean "Life Garden". As far as placement mapwise, would Ho'run area work for you or would you prefer to be in the thick of the capitol Carcossa?

Ah, yes honorary name would be cool, I'll come up with his original name.  Add in that he received the name in for his help during the revolts?  Good fitting name since he's need a large "garden" for his medicines.

Wherever he'd be able to sell his medicines and help the movement the best.
