Title: Idea: Micro-RPs?
Post by: bigbaldben on September 25, 2015, 08:08:05 PM
Been thinking a lot about our RP section.

One thing that I notice is hard for me is the speed - or non-speed.  Not necessarily just because it's slow, but mainly because I have to go back and read the four or five posts that were previously made because I forget by the time it is my turn to write again.   :-\

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in something I guess I'd call "Micro-RP" of "Conference Call" or lack of a better word.

The premise would be this - basically a conference call between nations - this would go nicely with a Taijitu UN thing we were talking about - where someone calls a meeting with a short "problem statement," then everyone chimes in with small bits, like a few sentences to ask a question or scream at everyone or whatever.  Short, easy posts, that are actual conversations.

I love the long narratives we do, and by no means would this be a replacement, but I am thinking a few micro-RPs might really help develop our nation's personalities and have some fun, easy to get into RPs that wouldn't be as daunting as our normal stuff.

Let me know what you guys think.  If there's interest, I'd be glad to kick the first one off.  :)

Sounds cool; let's try it out.  :)

This is (part of) exactly what our RP community needs. If it's to attract more people it needs to be easy to get into. Not everyone who writes is capable or willing to pen pages upon pages of narrative to get to the next storybeat. I would definitely support something more simple and fast-paced.

I agree and would say the other side of the coin would be slow paced casual story arcs. Some ideas for this sort of thing off the top of my head: a university thread about some international school with teachers and students from prospective nations, crime stories, corporate "conference calls", "UN" councils on various subjects, etc.

Lol, sorry... I ran with it. Like a maniac with scissors

EDIT: I think it's better to think of it like, you don't need to write much, but if you want to, go ahead!

So I just read this earlier today.  LMAO.  Awesome job with all the references to Megatrine culture!   :D  And interesting direction.  Not sure where you're going with it, but I hope my response gives you some stuff to work with.

What's wrong here is that the Conference style RP has been done before and just lately, with the Satellite micro rp. I'm honestly bored with the premise of a nation's liaisons chatting it about in a lofty international forum. Perhaps we can have the story about Taijitu UN missionaries and humanitarian aid workers from different countries working together in a backwater, wrestling problems from the logistics and supplies dept while doing an actually efficient job.

I very much like the idea, had been trying to think of more everyman sort of things. Also thinking perhaps the micro-RP might be good to place some general Taijitu tourist spots, scientific installations manned by an international team, maybe some corporate things...

Wow, awesome ideas.  Plus, such a friggin simple concept - what happens when nations do something together rather than in their own interests?!  Completely changes the dynamics of the writing.

Another idea is to possibly have things like an artist fellowship in some city's university somewhere. Where say the artists have to all live in a building and are told to teach/finish a project in a year.

YES! Let's do that, so much potential for creating culture :D

I'd vote on the university being in Keras.
