Information about LLanydern
« on: March 17, 2007, 06:46:18 AM »
A good place to start would be with what NS actually says about my nation at the moment.

The Democratic Republic of Llanydern is a small, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 7 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Social Welfare, although Healthcare and Education are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 68%, and even higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Arms Manufacturing.

Voting is compulsory. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown. Llanydern's national animal is the sar11, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the drath.

A relatively young nation Llanydern has only just come out of the civil war caused by the death of its founder.  Founded from a collection of hill tribes the nation quickly grew encompassing many formerly independent hill tribes and even claiming vague authority over some of the herding people of the arid lands further south.  However this time of peace and expansion was to be short lived, as their leader the only person capable of commanding the respect and loyalty of all the many factions that made up Llanydern at that time died.

Quickly the various faction leaders started fighting among themselves and it looked like Llanydern would become mealy a tragic footnote in the worlds history, that is until Deimos Elthin secretary to the civil council proposed a radical move.  Elthin proposed that the civil council should control the nation as non of the faction leaders would ever agree to be beneath each other and also that even if they would when they died Llanydern would again descend into anarchy.  Several of the smaller factions as well as Mater Nedlin, the remnants of the old national police force and the Holy orders answered the call.  The early days of the fight back (the so called days of the martyrs) were hard with many civil service members being killed for refusing to turn away from their vows of public service.  Eventually though the fight began to turn with the forces of unity slowly being able to push back the remaining factions, however each victory was hard and the price bloody after more then 20 years of civil war much destruction has happened and many lives have been lost.  It was a price worth paying though as now Llanydern is free to plow its destiny in the choppy waters the future may bring.

The Armed forces: A brief guide (shortly to be obsolete)

The only official armed force in LLanydern at the present time is the national police force which numbers just over 100,000 men and women.  The main armaments of this force are the locally produced FAL rifle, the MGV-176 submachine gun and the L4A4 light machine gun, various anti tank weapons and shotguns are also utilized (however there is very little standardization and so no overall information can be given).

The various organizational levels are given as:
The Department (which is the whole force (as officially part of the civil service they share similar designations at higher levels))
Region (a region is a reasonably large administrative level and can number anything from 1000 personnel to 10,000+ (though somewhere around the 5000 mark is normal))
Area (a smaller administrative level generally numbers between 50 and 150 personnel)
Patrol teams (generally 2-5 small unit used for (as the name suggests) patrols (the larger the team generally the more dangerous the area))
Command (a group of columns)
column (a body of personnel mobilized for combat generally between 300 and 2500 personnel)
Combat patrol (50 to 150 personnel (generally) comparable to a platoon/company
Combat team (2-5 generally, made depending on situations and weapons)

The militia
as the general population is armed in times of need it is normal to raise militia units these have ammunition supplied in the standard calibers as set down by the militia ordinance (7.62 nato, .22 and 12.5mm shotgun) these units are organised in the same way as the police.

Following the recent formation of the Ministry of Intelligence, Defense and Security (M.I.D.S.) the armed forces will be undergoing massive reorganization into the following structure.

Intelligence (the smallest part of the Ministry but in many ways the most active):
-Internal (to root out the spy and the traitor) both uniformed and plain clothed officers that work closely with the security department to find and destroy the viper within our midst.
-External (to collect, collate and analyze) to discover information about other nations and to condense this mountain of information into a usable list of facts and figures.
-Special Circumstances (classified)

Defense (The largest part of the Ministry, both our nations shield and our sword):
-Army (The army of the people) organized into formations, raised from a specific locality (provincial or municipal regiments), a specific group (e.g. the technical school Pioneer regiment, the gallician regiment) or for specific formations (The Egelithe raiders regiment or the Goreth defenders division).
-Navy (Plowers of the sea, Warriors of the oceans) divided into three main sections, Coastal defense with shore batteries of missiles and artillery as well as attack boats, minelayers/sweepers, land based attack aircraft and submarines.  The next major section is the trade protection section, equipped with small cruisers, destroyers, frigates, corvettes and small escort carriers as well as long ranged patrol aircraft. The last major section is the attack section containing surface vessels and attack submarines and is designed to hit enemy merchant shipping. There are various smaller sections such as the supply and transport section (which supplies the armed forces with specialist transport ships (such as tank transporters and small tankers) and supplies the navy at sea, the landing section which is equipped with landing craft and the various paraphernalia of getting an army ashore.
-Air force (Death from above) divided into three main sections, the defensive section which maintains and operates all major air defense (e.g. Flak regiments) and pure interceptor aircraft.  The offensive section which operates non-interceptor aircraft, bombers and pure attack helicopters. The transport section which operates transport aircraft and transport helicopters. Smaller sections include balloon section, security section, construction section and various others.

Security (the guardians of law, the watchmen of peace)
This is the section of the armed forces which performs the role of police within llanydern, however it can be put on external duties in support of the rest of the armed services.

Support services (Blood oils the machine of war)
This is the section of the armed forces which produces equipment and supplies the rest of the armed forces with the materials needed for victory, people are conscripted into the factories in times of war.
