Title: Cat and Mouse in the Snow
Post by: Letonna on July 23, 2012, 01:52:56 AM
It was a cold afternoon in the mountainous nation of Letonna. A hard wind blew against the men and women of the 7th Battalion, whistling past their shouldered rifles and steel helmets. This would be their 3rd week in the cold, chasing armed rebels throughout the mountains of eastern region of The Empire of Letonna(EOL). Morale was low amongst the troops and officers of the 7th. They had been playing cat and mouse with the rebel  gorillas; leftovers from an earlier more violent political upheaval in Letonna for many years now. Frostbitten extremities, constant danger of attack, and unrelentless blizzards followed the troops.

Officially, these troops were deployed to “monitor unusual urban disturbances” in the villages to the north. Unofficially, there troops were part of a more hush-hush operation to stomp out the last traces of a failed rebellion. The rebellion had been a very unpopular event amongst the populace on both sides of the conflict, and it didn’t take long till public support warranted a peace agreement.  A public surrender was officially held roughly a decade ago. For the most part unknown to the populace, the Ministry of War has been funneling supplies and government resources into the stomping out of these rebels once and for all.

Moving further north, always keeping a watchful gave on the tree line and possible hidden cover spots for waiting gorillas, the men approach the Empires most eastern town of Halfer. A primary mining and mineral processing hub in the area, it is the last major Imperial stronghold before reaching the border with The Kingdom of Southern Mcmasterdonia. Gradually making advances towards Halfer, the battalion keep a look out for possible hidden rebel weapon cashes as well as suspicious people mingling about.

The ministry of War gave the Battalion colonel strict orders to forbid the rebels the chance to flee into the Kingdom of Southern Mcmasterdonia. However, with his troops slowly succumbing to the elements, he will have to take shelter in the warm refuse of Halfer, and hope the bureaucrats in the Ministry of war won’t be too harsh in discipline…

Ushbarn Castle sat  on the east of the Isengard Mountains that divided the Empire of Letonna from Southern McMasterdonia. Queen Matilda was in the throne room, looking out across the castle's grounds. The winter was bitter, and the cold deadly to outlanders.

*Ahem* your majesty, General Transissimo is here to speak to you

"Very, well. Send him in."

"Your majesty. Grave news I'm afraid, our scouts tell us that the rebels from EOL are attempting to make it across our border, they are being closely followed by a battalion of the Letonnan imperial army

"This is just outrageous. We cannot allow these rebels to come here, they will only seek to create more instability in the region."

"But your majesty, the imperial army is following them it would be...

"Silence General, and do not interrupt me again. We cannot allow the Letonnan Army to violate our nation sovereignty. I will not allow a single man cross our border, do you understand me general?"

"Yes your majesty it will be done".

"Excellent. Now leave me in peace, i have much to attend to"

General Transissimo turned and quickly left the throne room, typing a number into his phone quickly.

"Bring the defense towers online, and deploy the Princess Royals Battalion to the border. No man, woman or child is to cross our border and violate our Queens sovereignty. Take no prisoners, leave no survivors".

"The entire battalion, General?"

"Yes the entire battallion"

Within minutes, defence towers in the moutains had come online and the army on the move.

After a few hours of a warm military barracks and a hot meal, the men of the 7th battalion set out. Although the border between Letonna and Mcmasterdonia was close, and some of the mountain peaks of the other side were within view, it could still be a few hours march till reaching the official border town of the east, St. Maxton. The troops marched in formation, preceded by scouts a half kilometer ahead. To their shock, they saw suspicious movement far off in the distance on the Mountains and hill tops in Mcmasterdonian land. The Commanding colonels first objective had been to crush any rebel fighters and restore order to the subject of the Empire. But the second has been to stop any people, military oriented or not from illegally crossing the border.

Although never officially have a full out war, conflict or crisis with any neighboring countries, The Empire of Letonna had never had good relations with The Kingdom of Southern Mcmasterdonia(KSM) or any of its neighbors or nearby countries. The region currently known as The Empire of Letonna has harbored a very expansionary and aggressive view for many periods of history, often intimidating countries of old.  With the establishment of The New Order in the Empire, and the ascendance of the latest Emperor, The Empire has placed a focus on diplomacy and international friendship with select nations. The Kingdom to the east has not yet been in to many diplomatic negotiations, and Mining and territory disputes of the past harbor a bitter distrust amongst people in the regions on both sides.

An hour has past, and the sun was low in the sky. Colonel Stanford consulted with his scouts and officers about peculiar sightings within the last hour of marching. From their reports, it appeared that a group of between 150-250 armed rebel freedom fighters moved eastward towards the boarder. Of even more interest, a large military defense force consisting of artillery, heavy infantry and suspected Calvary had set up on a ridge and the valley that divided the two nations. Perplexed by what to do, and conflicted by the Ministry of Wars strict orders to not instigate conflict with the Mcmasterdonians, the Colonel paced in a large arc, followed by the gaze of his officers.

“Captain,” The Colonel said, dazing off into the mountains, his breath visible in the cold.
“Uh, Yes sir!” The Captain said.
“Gather your men, make haste and try to cut off the advancement right at the border, we can’t have a single foot cross that line, understood?”
      “Understood”
And with a salute, he was off. Distant barking of orders could be heard. The Colonel turned to his officer of frontline communications
“you! Contact the ministry of Relations, tell them to have an ambassador wire the KSM and defuse the situation if he can.”

And with another swift salute, he was off. The colonel let out a heavy sigh, and turned eastward and remained still and silent, with his steel faced officers and scouts behind him…

we cant 'assume' anything in regards to this situation. agent [redacted] in MCMAST has little information and we havent heard our agents in LETON in days. its probably safe to assume they were [redacted]. those [expletives deleted] can get to them faster than we can send them over. with so little info theres no reason to even bring this up with OGAs let alone military or HIH. we cant bother with this [expletive deleted] this soon after the coronation. let sleeping dogs lie.

This is exactly the thing that we should be worrying about. our interests in Parvusia are far too important to allow any conflict to jeopardize them. You all know very well that our [redacted] over there is crucial. We must tell OGAs and HIH about what's going on and let them decide we can't keep this a [redacted] issue forever.

A small boy, barely 5 years of age pants heavily as he runs, slipping as he goes on the wet snow. His mother calls out his name Alvendrer! Wait!

The EOL military not far behind them, he is not going to stop running for anything. He makes it up the hill and begins the slippery descent down the mountain.

A strange noise of churning metal echoes through the mountain

Alvendrer throws his hands over his ears, and trips, the pitch of the noise so loud it stunned him. In a second, a blast rings out around the valley, and the boy's small limp body collapses into the snow.

His mother screams, but the tower does not discriminate, it does not hold back. It blasts at her as well, hitting her straight in the chest, and knocking her down the mountain. Thus, the first of the rebels fell.

In the palace, Queen Matilda sits at the long oak table as she dines with the nobles and war lords of Southern Mcmasterdonia. These were her people, her lands, entrusted to her by her father Emperor Johnslo XI. She will do anything to defend them, commit the worst atrocities against invading people, whatever is necessary to protect the hold. She would not have her Father see her as weak.

*A small but portly man enters the dining room, and bows deeply to the Queen*

"Your majesty, the Ambassador from the Empire of Letonna is here to see you."
"Fine. I will meet him in the drawing room"
"Very well" says the butler, and he bows to the Queen again and leaves the room quickly.
"Lords and Ladies of the hold, I must go and attend to a vital matter of our national sovereignty. Continue to dine, and I will return shortly my friends"

*Lords and Ladies Stand, as the Queen leaves the room*

"Your Majesty, it is good to see you in fine health"
"Cut the pleasantries Mr Ambassador, what do you want?"
"I have come to assure you your majesty, that EOL does not intend to impinge on Southern Mcmasterdonia's sovereignty we only..."
"Even if you did, I would not allow it. Not a single soul is to cross our border, the penalty will be severe and irreversible"
"Your Majesty, we understand, our military will not under any circumstance cross the border into Southern McMasterdonia"
"Then our time here is over. Jones, see the Ambassador out"
"Yes your majesty, follow me Mr Ambassador"

The sun was low in the sky. Unnerved by the whispers overheard between officers, the men marched on through the snow eastward. Suddenly, only a short distance in front of the men, around the official EOL/KSM line, screams followed by the crackle of cannon fire broke the silence. The men immediately drew their rifles, and hunched down. Looking into the mountains, the flashes of the Mcmasterdonian cannons could be seen, but they weren’t aiming at the soldiers. A short jog down the sparsely road revealed a massacre of rebel forces, surprised and unexpecting of a Mcmasterdonian attack. The soldiers took cover near the border behind some large snow banks and stray trees. It would appear they failed to stop the rebel forces in time from causing an international situation. Unsure what to do, and awaiting orders from the battalion commander, all they could do was sit and watch the mcmasterdonian forces fire relentlessly into the valley.

A short ways behind the ‘front line’ his men had formed, Colonel Stanford had just received word from the Ministry of Relations that negotiations had failed, and the stance tward his troops was unknown.  Although no shots had been fired at his men yet, it was pretty clear they knew he was hear. The Mcmasterdonian army had brought much more firepower needed than to deal with some ill equipped rebels and civilian companions. The Colonel turned toward one of his scouts

“Prepare an officer and some escorts to try to cross the boarder and seek the commanding officer over there, I want to know why there are this close without official permission from our military command.”
A swift salute and he was gone. A scout, and officer and a few troops in a jeep quickly drove down the slushy road towards the border crossing of St. Maxton.  A gut feel told the Colonel he would never see them again. He turned towards another officer standing behind him
“Set up defensive trenches and fox holes. I want out light cannons pointed towards their positions and machine gunners and snipers ready at a seconds notice incase our envoy comes under fire.
More salutes and barking orders after.  This was going to turn into a career maker, or a widow maker for many of these soldiers. Taking one final look at the Mcmasterdonian position, he turned to his awaiting ride to the front line and marched away…

The small Jeep moved across the slippery mixture of snow and gravel as it crossed the border crossing into McMasterdonia. They were greeted by the high pitch crunch of churning metal.

"CAPTAIN LOOK"
The Captain turned to look and saw a fully armed and ready Mcmasterdonian Defence Tower
"Oh Fuck"

The tower blasted at the side of the jeep, knocking it over and perilously close to the edge of a very steep drop. Looking out from underneath the jeep, Captain Royden had only little time to pray for his wife, likely sitting at home in front of a warm fire.

The Tower fired again this time knocking the Jeep right off the edge, and down the 500m drop to the ground below.

Now late into the Saturday Evening, the Queen fast asleep in bed, was awoken by 3 hard knocks on her bedroom door.

"Your Majesty, General Tullius here to see you"

"Come in General, what is it at this late hour?"

"Sorry to disturb you, milady. But we have just received word that EOL troops have crossed our border, the defence towers did as they should. They are all dead."

"This is outrageous, I directly said to their ambassador that I would not have them step one foot over our border. If they had anything important to say, why not send a message. We must get in contact with EOL military command immediately. They have a lot of explaining to do"

Quote
Att: General of the Empire of Letonna Military
At approximately 9:23 this evening, EOL forces deployed across the KSM border. In direct violation of the Kingdom of Southern McMasterdonia's military. In accordance with discussions with the EOL ambassador all military personnel that passed our border were killed on sight, by Mcmasterdonian defence towers.
Her majesty, Queen Matilda of Southern McMasterdonia will not tolerate any violations of our national sovereignty. Should you wish to communicate with our military team, send your ambassador who will be offered the full protection of diplomatic immunity that is expected.
We are prepared to deploy all military forces to defend our lands and our Queen. We offer you a big "please explain" and hope that this conflict does not deteriorate further.
Our defence towers and military women will deal with any rebels that cross our borders, your military has no authority and is not welcome in these lands.

Signed
General Tullius
Commander of Her majesties Imperial Army

The cold sea air blew bitterly in the cold months. The Federal Republic of Cozulul is usually not known for such cold weather, however the changing air currents made for a cold season.  Out of the twelve provinces of the Republic, each one sent forth a member that they elect to be part of the Federal Council.  The Federal Council is in charge of everything and anything in the Federal Republic of Cozulul.

The Federal Council had urgently been called in to speak of matters that may ruin their esteemed nation that they had worked so hard to perfect. One of the many spies of the Federal Republic of Cozulul had heard news about a rebel armada being chased by the 7th battalion of The Empire of Letonna. Even though the spies had heard the armada was moving southeast into The Southern Kingdom of Mcmasterdonia, the Federal Republic knew they could not risk the danger that these punitive rebels could have on the high class society of The Federal Republics citizens.

Sorry, I didn't realize my mistake... I mean't to say....:

As a Precautionary step, the Federal Council ordered the deployment of a total of 690 ships to guard the sea of Soseliba to the North of The Empire of Letonna. The Federal Council also ordered the deployment of 500 soldiers from each Province to guard the border between The Federal Republic of Cozulul and The Empire of Letonna.

South Prioza- L’Iutol
This cover was Senya Funda, social security number 321-323-8-7824, black hair and deep navy blue eyes as typical Ozians look, and her complexion was fairer than most, for what she explains as Myrorian ancestry. However, the real Senya had maroon eyes, and instead of having Myrorian ancestry she just stayed inside too long due to work. This new assignment was a big break in her career at STIA, the Ozian intelligence agency. She was excited about this new cover about three months ago when she first assumed it, but now the job consumed her and dumped her as feces in a cesspool somewhere. Despite some pressure from her superiors, she decided not to become a mole of the target she was supposed to infiltrate, a Staii direship sponsored weapons and drug cartel. Instead she became competition, and she did so well for herself that she was noticed, receiving one of the famous “Let’s Chat” messages from her competition. Staii did one of two things with small times like her, integrated them or killed them. In reality she was flipping a coin here.

To the surprise of Senya, they let her choose the spot for the meeting. Instead of an area full of the most activity, she chose a wine bar by the beach with more subtle activity. Of the tourists the ones who were the most likely to understand any words that might be said were the people who listed on their resumes that they were strongly proficient in Ozian because they could order a beer with no trouble. Senya realized after sitting herself down at a table overlooking the white sandy beach of Prioza that her town outfit of a white blouse, jeans, and thick-rimmed glasses greatly contrasted with the tourists and other clients who looked ready to go to the beach.

The sun was as bright as ever with clear skies all around. It was a great day for relaxing and swimming for many tourists. As she waited for her informant she took more notes on the clients of the wine bar. Two tables from her, a couple and their three children, candidly speaking the subtle accent of Myrorian Inglish,  were experiencing their first “legitimate” Ozian cuisine. Senya couldn’t help but smirk when one of the children tried the flat bread, his voice yelping an “EW!” after he spat it out onto his plate. A waitress came over with an ashtray and a menu, then spoke cheerfully in Ozian to her, “Welcome to Zelde’s! What will you have this afternoon?”

Senya responded in almost too natural Inglish, “some table wine and a plate of Zimmel please (a multi-olive mash with vegetables).”

The waitress made an even faker smile and responded in broken Inglish “Naturally friend.”

Senya removed a short rectangular zuavka cigar from her blouse pocket, then scratched herself a light with complimentary restaurant matches. The Myrorian family took notice of this as thick blue smoke rose up to through the ceiling of purposefully neglected roof boards.  She sighed when she discovered that the cigar was too dry, and so put her mouth generously around the cigar so that her mouth tasted more of the sweet zuavka leaf to try to counteract its dry unpleasantness.

Another woman, obviously of Ozian descent, brushed by her in cargo shorts, a black tanktop, and a fish tattoo reaching across her shoulders. She took a seat at Senay’s table, her maroon eyes staring at her the whole time with dirty Ozian spilling out of her mouth, “Since ya look like those lost and innocent Christian women over-sucking phallic objects trying to get more than a 5 second orgasm. You must have a dry cigar, do not worry. I brought two," when she looked in her pockets she only pulled out one, "just kidding, only one."

“Oh well... How’d you know to look for me?”

"You’ve got a pretty mainland accent there, and I saw a mug shot of you before I got here, Senya Funda. Such a common name, and no matronymic. You’re a bastard child aren’t you? Your mother dumped her mistake on your father?” She chuckled something but noticed that Senya only seemed to roll her eye at her. The woman collected herself after some awkward chuckling and remarked, “Sorry. I’m Derya Burcula Sidik.”

“Ni-“

The waitress barged in with a bottle of wine and a glass with a plate of the olive mash, bread, and vegetables. She put down the glass as Senay was about to speak and poured one glass for her. “Here’s your wine and zimmel miss, “ then she noticed her new company, “Oh! You never said you were going to be accompanied by others. I’ll get an extra glass for your table wine.”

“Th-“

Now Derya interuped her, “So I’m going to make this simple, you have three choices, step out, join, or die. I’d recommend join, because we need some people like you.”

Senya blinked, was undercover work usually this easy? “I-…”

“Three hundred fifty untaxed g’s a year with travel expenses paid. You also have private health insurance, gym membership, and a great opportunity to open yourself culturally in a new country. Also you will have to learn a new language. Any questions?”

“Do I get to keep my life too?”

She snickered, “for now.”

Senya made a forced smile, then took a large gulp of her wine, “I see, what exactly am I doing?”

“We’re pursuing an old market that may have reopened.”

“Quit being vague, what for?”

Derya tapped her cheek, “Not entirely sure, but I believe it’s mostly arms, food, and medicine. I’m sure you’ll find other opportunities.”

Derya kept an unblinking gaze at Senya who arched her eyebrows, “And this is for…?”

“The Letonna black markets. My boss is convinced that another rebel uprising will consume the country again. We’ve lost contact with several of our old partners, and your job is to reestablish contacts and conduct business in the region.”
Senya tapped off a long ash from her cigar, “And if I refuse?”

“Look girlie, you’re small time. You sold some submachine guns to some punks and gave them some better deals than we did. You don’t understand the politics of doing such things, and you’re probably in the mindset that this market is competitive. It’s not. We rule this island’s streets and cops, and you don’t. We may not kill you, but you could get thrown in jail for a very long time. Besides, if you do a good job, maybe my boss will let you work somewhere less shitty.”

Senya sighed, establishing more of her ruse, “anyone specific I should be finding?”
The Myrorian family got up to escape the cloud of zuavka smoke. Derya answered her question, “since when do we differentiate which guns go to which gangs? They demand, we supply.”

Senya raised her eyebrows and took a deep puff of her zuavka to calm her nerves. After a moment of silence she asked, “When do I start?”

“Today,” Derya pushed a manila envelope to her, “Don’t worry about your lease, we already took care of it.”

The phrase ‘took care of it’ always made an unsettling feeling for Senya, and she wouldn’t be surprised if the landlord had a blue and purple face when she turned in her keys.

Derya rose up and dumped the rest of her portion of wine down without a wince, “Be at the West Docks at 10pm. Wear something comfortable.”

Senya sighed watching her leave. She finished off her glass of wine and fished out cash for the bill. She stood up and watched the shore from the bar while finishing off her cigar, then muttered, “I’ll miss you.” She tossed away the cigar then and glared at where it landed, "Fuck you."

It was earley morning, and the sun was just peaking over the Capitol of Letonna City. The Ministers and Prime minister had just finished their meeting in the conference room. Amongst the usual discussions including but not limited to black market growth, coalition citizens, and international relations, there had been a very serious discussion regarding the aggressive actions of The Empire of Letonnas neighbors: The Kingdom of Southern Mcmasterdonia and The Federal Republic of Cozulul. The Emperor only said “Deal with this as would see fit”, and so they did.
The Minister of War had just arrived back in his office, and summoned the nation’s top generals and admirals.
“This is a dark day for Letonna” The minister said to the summoned brass.
“It would appear that our neighbors to the north and east are provoking war without reasonable cause. Although we have had troubled relations, especially with KSM, we have never seen anything like this before. To respond to this increased aggression, I am ordering all military personnel into standby, and having General Graf and General Braftford take immediate action. Braftford will head east with his army and set up a defensive blockade in the Isengard mountains while Graf will do what he can to scare away with FRC’s away from their border. I don’t want any crossing of the border or any unwarranted killing of their military. However, observe, defend, and report back, understood?”
“Yes sir’s” and salutes all around; and the men and women were off. After finally stomping out(for the most part) a rebellion, war seamed on the horizon. After everyone had left, The minister of war took on a sour expression and turned towards a large window behind his desk overlooking uptown Imperial city. He knew there was no way the nation was prepared for war on two different fronts. Hopefully we could scare and bluff the others into submission.

Meanwhile in the Isenguard mountains.

After seeing the jeep explode just after crossing the border, Colonel Stanford had ordered all his men to take aim and remain on standby in defensive formation in their defensive positions. No movement could be clearly observed in the pitch dark night, but now that the sun was peaking over the east, it was clear more defensively positioned forces had arrived and were facing the Letoneese line. Word from the capital confirmed that military support was to arrive within the next couple hours.
Letting a rather large sigh, the Colonel said to himself aloud:
“I don’t think this is about rebels and petty border disputes anymore…”

The troops had been out in the cold wind and snow for months. The dedication of the troops was clear, they would sit in there trenches until the cold hands of death took them away. Loyalty to the Queen and the nation, came before all else.

It was difficult being Queen of such a dedicated nation, the Queen often found it difficult to sleep. Her father, the Emperor once told her that their people were like their family, he cared for each one, and worried for each one. The farmers, the teachers, the soldiers and the homeless. All were important, and all needed to be protected.

With this weighing on her heart, she had a diplomatic cable sent to the Emperor of Letonna himself

Quote from: ATT
Your majesty the Emperor of Letonna,

The military stand off between our two nations is unproductive. The winter is coming and many will die if this military show of power does not end. I invite you to discuss this with me personally, in the royal palace of Southern Mcmasterdonia.

The fate of your people is at stake, declining this invitation would be unwise.

Some months had past since The Federal Council ordered troops and ships to guard their perfecting nation against the rebels whom they thought would destroy them.

Newly elected Biryndra Ommos, the Federal Chancellor of The Federal Council, decided enough was enough, and the precautionary protection that the previous Chancellor had instilled was not worth the heartache to the families of the deployed.

This is her short speech she told the Council in order to dismiss small amounts of the deployed monthly:

"I am here today to discuss with all of you the tragic mistake that we have all made. That mistake is the deployment. The previous Chancellor, Tonranack Phurr, surely had reason to have our military be deployed. However, that was in the past, and the threat from the rebels of Letonna has subsided from our sight. I have created a plan to get all of the deployed back home or in the reserves, away from the so called "hostiles". Of course, this will not be an easy task, I presume it will take a couple of months, but after that we will be back in order and all will be well. So, I urge all of you to think this over and vote by next Saturday. Thank you for your time, I know it was not wasted."

The vote was 7-5, Biryndra's plan was passed and troops have been returning home as promised.

As for her thoughts on The Empire of Letonna, she has been pushing for contact between her and the Emperor for some time now, unable to get through. Maybe she was to late and The Emperor had forbid the contact between the two great nations. She knew that only time would tell....

It had been a few months since the ministers to the Emperor had all gathered for such a pressing discussion. There was still a very chilling cold war between the nations of The Southern Kingdom of Mcmasterdonia and The Empire of Letonna. Only a few deaths over the past few months, but many more were expected to fall victim to the incoming brutal winter.

These ministers were counselors to the Emperor himself, deciding what matters to handle personally, and what should warrant his attention. Earlier that day, diplomatic cables to the Kingdom to the east had actually sent over something other than military threats and warnings to retreat. It would appear that the queen herself wanted to meet the with Emperor regarding this war, and the imminent losses from the encroaching winter.
There was a moment of absolute silence amongst the councilors. Never before had a non-diplomatic leader, let along the emperor, been requested to leave the country for negotiations.
The silence was broken by the Minister of infrastructure “This is obviously a trap, Those McMasterdonians KNOW they can’t win in a war with us, so they are taking the cheap way out and going to kill our Emperor!”

“Now now I don’t know if we should jump to such assumptions just yet” chimed the Minister of international relations. “We don’t have any information, acquired or stolen, that leads to such desperations of dastardly deeds.”

“We should get their queen to come here! That way we can keep a close watch over here….through a rifle scope!" Chimed the Minister of Medicine.

Their bickering went on for a few minutes, and nobody seemed to notice a young man, looking to be about 30 with flowing black and red silken robes slowly walk into the room. He emotionlessly observed them for a few minutes before walking up to the large guilded round table, in-between the Ministers of Internal Postal service and Energy.

“it would appear to me that we are debating my next vacation, hm?”
Silence and ghostly stares from the ministers all around
“Well I was thinking of going to  the tropica beaches of Delfos for a little RnR, but seeing as Mcmasterdonia is closer, we will go there.”
Silence, sealed lips, and blank stares filled the room. The ministers never usually objected the Emperor, as it was hard to tell when he was actually in a happy joking mood, or if he was just baiting some to object to him. Either way, experience told them it was best to not talk when he was tell them what HE would do.

“And by the way, so save you man some time. I will also be doing the same with the leaders of Cozulul. I’d rather have somewhat good relations with our neighbors rather than cratered landscapes and grudges, understand?”
A single cautious nod from everyone and he was off. The next few days were setting up arrangements for the Emperor to travel to the Capitol of Southern McMasterdonia, and then after Cozulul to the west.

While hosting a charity event for the organization "Tomorrow's Youth", Biryndra Ommos was called in for a meeting at the Capital building in the city of Samarinda, the Capitol of Cozulul. The Council had received word from The Empire of Letonna that The Emperor Titus himself was planning a visit to discuss diplomatic issues with The Chancellor, Biryndra Ommos.

Council Member Chetinonrilit of the northern province named Valael, couldn't believe that The Empire of Letonna had responded. For awhile Biryndra and her council thought there was no hope in restoring the broken relations between FRoC and EoL. Today however, History has been deferred, everything could change.

The Council didn't want anything to go wrong, so they started planning a special ceremony complete with a parade in the Capitol city for the arrival of The Emperor of Letonna. This would all be paid by the tax payer's money of course.

"This is a special occasion" said Council Member Byrd, hailing from the group of islands to the east of the mainland, "Nothing can go wrong, everything needs to be perfect, just like our society."

Biryndra interrupted, "Our society isn't perfect. If it were, than we wouldn't be here!"

A loud uproar of laughter from the council erupted consuming the room.

The Queen stood on the run way of The Royal Airport, and watched as the Emperor's plane touched down. Southern McMasterdonia's capital city, and the home of the official Royal Palace of the Queen of Southern Mcmasterdonia.  Libertad City was located on the beach of McMasterdonia, far away from the freezing cold of the Isengard mountains.

"Your majesty, welcome to Libertad, might I present to you, Queen Matilda, ruler of southern mcmasterdonia, princess-elector of the Mcmasterdonian Emperor, Queen of the eastern islands and Queen Protector of the Mcmasterdonian people"
"Welcome to Libetad Emperor Titis, please this way, I have a car waiting for us."

The Emperor and Queen Matilda stepped out onto the road to the waiting car, crowds all up the road and down the street cheerinig at the Queen and the Emperor

"Your majesty, do this many people usually turn out for such a gathering" asked Titis
"Indeed. The people are like a family, each one cares for me, as I care for them. Your visit gives them hope of friendship between our countries, an alliance of two great families if you will"
"I see, we best get to discussions then"
"The new world is ripe for the taking Emperor Titis, its time we agreed on how to take it"

The Emperor and Queen Matilda were walking through very finely guilded and adorned halls. Walking at a slow pace, with Letonese and Mcmasterdonian ministers and advisors close behind, the two began formal discussion.

“Matilda, I sense this meeting is more about a border dispute. I could have had a ambassador or general tidy up this little border tiss. “

“Your perception is keen Titus,” replied the queen. “this is true, I had more I wanted to discuss with you. There are a lot of similarities between our two nations. Disregarding customs and geographical locations, the peoples core interests boil down to a single desire: Conquest. In recent weeks I’ve been making arrangements behind the scene for our people’s common goal to become more realistic. I’ve made similar arrangements with the FRoC, TRoF, and your own nation to the west.”

Emperor Titus remained silent. He expected some sort of alliance against some poor nation in the common interest of conquest and colonialism. However he never would have anticipated that behind the scenes of this cold war, Queen Matilda was really negotiating with other nations to make an international union of force.

“How certain are you that these other nations would be willing to cooperate with us? I don’t exactly have the best relations with Cozulul. And Funkadelia has his own war going on at the moment.”

“Ah yes but aren’t you to soon have a visit to Cozulul? And are you no also no feeding the TRoF resources and military support?”

The Emperor remained silent again. He was suspicious of this union of nations. No doubt the promise of conquest, glory and riches would entice many of his more blood thirsty members of the military and populace.

“What exactly will this union expect from me? Resources? Military? Political favors?”
“This union will expect nothing short of everything you have to give, and in turn this union will grant you anything you could ever accept.”

Emperor Titus glanced around the walls as he thought deeply, his gaze went over large fancy paintings of long dead generals as he debated to him self. The Queen was cleaver. She knew how to talk him into a corner, giving him all the basic details without any of the more distracting facts.

“How long do I have to consider?”

“I’ll give you a few weeks. But keep in mind if you fail to come to a conclusion or decide against joining us, you may have more than a border ‘tiss’ to worry about. As a sign of good will I’ll pull out most of my forces in Isenguard.”

A wave of her hand and a half hearted glance to one of her advisors and a man following scurried away. The two kept walking with ministers and advisors in tow, discussing this possible union…

A few days later, Emperor Titus traveled to The capital city of Cozulul, Samarinda. The International airport was filled with many people waiting to see Titus. Biryndra Ommos and The Federal Council met Titus at airstrip where The Republic Limousine awaited them to get in. The Limousine would take them to the main street in Samarinda which led to the Capitol building. A cross section of the street had been closed off along with the entire main street. This is where the Parade would begin marking the ceremony of The Emperor's arrival.

As soon as The Chancellor, The Council, and The Emperor got out, they were motioned to a large horse drawn carriage pulled by 6 horses. In front of the large carriage was the Cozululian Navy Marching Band to play the anthems of both countries. Above, an air force fly by dispersing smoke of the colors of both countries flags.

"You really went all out on my arrival didn't you?" remarked Titus.

"We try to make all of our distinguished guests feel that they are special and that they are cared for." said Biryndra while smiling.

"Well, this is still a lot. Are these people really this excited to see us?" Titus retorted.

"Of course they are!" Biryndra said half heartily.

The parade wasn't terribly long, before they knew it, it was over.

The Emperor and his diplomats, The Chancellor, and The Council entered the marble building to discuss the future of both of their nations.

After awhile of discussing the two nations future, Titus brought up what Queen Matilda told him about the so called "union".

"I was afraid you were going to bring that up," commented Biryndra "My council and I have already decided that for the well being of our almost perfect nation, we must refrain from this barbarianism! It is out right disgusting her plans they are! We will not be apart of it!"

Appalled by her outburst, The Emperor tried to calm her down, but it was almost impossible, it was almost as if Biryndra had a hatred so deep and so evil towards Queen Matilda that he regretted even bringing it up.

"You know that if you go against her she will declare war!" Titus exclaimed. "I would be forced to attack a country I was hoping to be allies with."

"Than I guess that is how it must be.... I am done speaking with you Titus." Biryndra calmly said.

"Is there anyway I can convince you otherwise?" Titus asked.

"Leave NOW!" Biryndra couldn't hold back her anger. "GUARDS!"

And just like that Titus was sent back to EoL.

Biryndra now knew that there was no one she could call an ally anymore. It was time to fight for what she, her council, her country believed in. She knew she would challenge Queen Matilda if the time came.

"Your majesty, we've received word that Emperor Titis was ejected forcibly by Chancellor Biryndra from The Federal Council of Cozulul."
"That woman is foolish, she will let her hatred of me determine the fate of her people. Have we heard from Emperor Titis yet?"
"No your majesty, we have not"
"Very well." with a wave of her hand, the servant was dismissed. The Queen sat down on her throne, in deep thought.

The Emperor she thought would not refuse her, how could he deny this opportunity to forge his place forever in the history books. The new Empire would be powerful. Like none ever before it, it would stand the test of time and forever unite the most powerful families and nations together.

The future was unclear, but with a sense of hope and the unwavering support and love of her people, Queen Matilda knew together they could transform the world.

"Inform Emperor Titis that he has exactly one week, not a minute longer to reach his decision. If he pledges his allegiance to this common aim, promises to give all he could ever give, all that he could ever want for his people he will receive. If he does not, I promise to bring down the fire and glory of my empire upon his head, and upon that of his people.

One week. The game of cat and mouse in the snow is over, its time to see who really has the heart of a lion. Who really has the courage to stand up and to fight for what is ours"

It was a rainy stormy day in Letonna City. Emperor had just signed treaty bringing him, his nation, and his military under the jurisdiction of a union of commonily aligned nations. He was unhappy he had been deadlined and forced to consider the consequences in such a short amount of time. He scowled as he looked out his large window over the city as wind and rain pounded the thick glass. There was certainly no way a rebellion or any armed resistance could ever grow in Letonna now, and his generals were more than pleasured to chase the last few scraps of rebel bands accrost the Mcmasterdonian border and back. Still, this kind of comitment made the Emperor uneasy. He had heard that the queen had been pulling more strings with other nations while he debated, secluded in his high offive above the city. Just how far she was willing to go, just how much blood she may be willing to spill, and just what her hidden motives were, if any, were anyones guess.

Biryndra and the council were in disbelief when they heard about Titus signing into the "union". Biryndra thought that he just wasted his power, just giving it away to Queen Matilda seemed out of the ordinary. Non the less, she knew that today was the beginning of dark times.

Sitting in the Council room Biryndra started to talk in the microphone facing the camera:

"As you all know, a storm is coming. A storm so powerful that our very existence is at stake. This is why I am ordering the construction of underground bunkers, numerous walls, underground storage units, and tactical defense towers. I know that in usual circumstances that this would take quite some time to create, that is why I am asking, for the survival of our people, that everyone joins in to help construct these buildings. These buildings will be created all over the capital city of each Province. This is the best way to ensure safety and survival. I am sending each council member home to oversee production of their provinces. As soon as the construction period is over each citizen is required to undergo intensive military training. I will be back on air in a few weeks to see how everyone is doing. We cannot let fear win. May God watch over all of us."

The cameras turned off, everyone was sent away. Every Council Member back to his/her province. Biryndra felt alone in such a huge world. Giving her people encouragement when she couldn't even encourage herself. She felt outright horrible. The only thing she could do was wait...

Queen Matilda sits in her throne room, relatively pleased with how her negotiations have gone. Only the weak Federal Republic of Cozulul had reacted negatively towards these negotiations. She had just been handed an intelligence report from the Federal Republic of Cozulul. Her tea cup chimed as she sat it down on the table, sighing to herself feeling satisfied, taking an additional sip of tea she picked up the report and began to read

*pffffffffffffffffffffffffffttttttttttttt* the Queen choked on her tea as she laughed at what she was reading

"what a crazy bitch" the Queen thought.

It was clear Biryndra was trying to force the international world into an armed race, a cold war, all because she did not agree with the future orientated policy Matilda and EOL had been taking.

The Queen giggled to herself, what a fool. It was clear Biryndra's re-election prospects were becoming more dire by the day.

Emperor Titus sat in his throne room overlooking Letonna City. In the background it was stormy and rainy as usual. His military forces were returning home after  a week of successful raids on Diamond Coast. In the time that had passed since he had last spoken to Matilda, he had been thinking. If The Republic of Funkadelia can have a military conflict with such support from this growing union, why couldn't he? True this intervention had been to help persuade ROF to join them for future indevors, but that would those future indevors be? Conquest of some sort no doubt. Titus was certain he wanted to fair just as well, if not better from this arrangement than his other partner nations.

There were two large unaligned islands of equal distance to the south of Union, Letonna, and Southern Mcmasterdonia. They were home to some unorganized farmers and settlers, likley shipwrecked or exiled from some country at some time nobody really remembers. They would make easy targets, and bountiful colony. Signing away on a military order for his now returning navy, he would route them south to those islands for observance, blockade and preparation for invasion. although likely to be no military contest, he wanted to test the limits of his international relations now that he had more flexibility, and was no longer a force to be dismissed. He sat back in his luxury chair and watched the rain and hail bounce off his window, and day dreamt of conquest and glory...

Weeks later, and as promised, Biryndra had sent letters to each council member asking how the construction was going. Each replied with good news, everyone was cooperating in each Province. Soon, every citizen would undergo extensive military training in case of an attack by the newly formed "union".

Reading an intelligence report from Biryndra's most trusted spies, she received a tip that Emperor Titus was planning on setting up a blockade on the Islands off the southern coast of Union. She knew she couldn't just let the unorganized farmers just stand there defenseless. She have her military advisor, Omvesir Ingon, to send a few unmanned drones to do surveillance work on the coast of the islands, in the worst case scenario, Omvesir told her that he would send out bombers to take care of most of the ships. Omvesir, Biryndra's friend, knew how important defending basic human rights were to her, he knew he couldn't fail her.

So now, the drones were sent out...

ERN Cruiser Ulmo
13km offshore from Letonna-Mcmasterdonia border
August 11th, 2012

Captain Ioagneis Fulpagneo of the Ulmo frowned at the communique in front of him. Was fleet command off their rocker? How could he possibly hope to evacuate all Coalition of Carth citizens from the entirety of McMasterdonia and Letonna?

Nevertheless, he'd best make the attempt. It was time to set a course for the largest port in mcmasterdonia.

The Myrorian government saw fit to send one of its two carrier groups to aid in the evacuation effort, as well as aid the overworked and stressed mind of Captain Fulpagneo. Myrorian rear admiral Gothren Dreloth arrived in the early morning hours of August 12 with his flagship, the HIMS Ivorheart, 4 cruisers, 1 destroyer, and 1 frigate. The Ivorheart had a deck with plenty of helicopters on it to aid in the transport of Coalition civilians and many officers praying they'd have enough space.

The ERN Cruisser ULMO made port at the Coastal Capital Libertrad. The seat of the royal court of Southern Mcmasterdonia and the Empire. The sandy beaches stretched out for as far as the eye can see.
(click to show/hide)
The crystal clear waves knocked gently against the dock, as the first of the ships, ERN Cruiser Ulmo stopped at port.

Lord Igmund, Marquis of the Libertrad port made his way down to the Libertrad port. Igmund was a flamboyant, but loyal man, he bounced as he walked down the jetty humming loudly to himself. Captain Fulpagneo stepped off his boat, and bowed politely to the Marquis

"OH happy days!" shouts Lord Igmund as he throws his arms up in the air "Welcome to port Libertrad Captain, I have a letter from her majesty Queen Matilda the first of her name, ahem" he clears his throat and begins to talk loudly

"By order of her majesty Queen Matilda, the first of her name, Queen protector of the McMasterdonian people, you are hereby prohibited from entering onto our land or for making port at our dock.
We do not have any of your citizens, as we have not let any of them in.
If any are here, they are in violation of immigration law and will be required to pay the relevant fines before they return home. As it stands, immigration officials cannot find a single illegal immigrant in our borders.
Former citizens of the North no longer wish to return, as they have since taken up our citizenship and customs, and have married Mcmasterdonian natives. It would be undesirable for these people to be forced to return to their homeland, as it would tear their families apart.
You are therefore in violation of Mcmasterdonian sovereignty and have illegally entered our national waters. You have 24 hours to restock your supplies, limited to within the designated Docks area. After that you will move your ships to no closer than 50kms off our shore, and will return to The North. The affairs of Southerners do not concern our Northern Friends."

The Marquis clapped his hands together and shouted "Enjoy your time here Gentlemen", turned on his heels humming to himself, as he returned to the dock yard.

Late afternoon, and rainy as always in the Letonnian capital, Emperor Titus was looking over his reports. The one that caught his interest the most was a intelligence and military movement report of Myrorian ships and Eluvatarian military vessels were some distance off his shore, and some of which had already docked in Mcmasterdonian ports. Supposedly, they were demanding the peaceful release of 'coalition citizens'. coalition conspirators more like it. Nevertheless, his hands were tied. Refusing the release of these civilians would no doubts immanently spark international war. Titus grabbed his pen, and wrote "Allow coalition ships to dock. They have 48 hours, and are permitted no further than 120 kilometers inland. They are barred from interacting with or taking any Letonnian citizens. If they exceed the 48 hours, they will be declared military insurgents and will be treated as such. Have a few battalions of long range artillery and infantry standing by, we well as observers. " He signed the report and placed it in his out bin for his aide to collect. It would appear his ally the Mcmasterdonians already refused port entry and evacuations of anyone. He feared how the coalition will react to this snub...

The Imperial navy sat anchored off the coast of the two smaller islands off the coast of Union and Mcmasterdonia. Peoples in Letonna and various sea captains refer to the islands as the Asclapo islands, however this name is unknown to be official or not. The fleet had just received an expansionary force, also known as a "Forceful Exploration and Rehabilitation" detachment. Ariel renascence turned up no defensive military structures, and it was estimated that there should be little to no resistance from the native populace. When the final order came from military command to invade, a wave of clumsy lumbering landing craft were off towards shore. there was an eerie quiet as the craft sailed away. There hadn't been a naval invasion that there wasn't usually loud cannon fire, artillery explosions and aircraft whizzing over head in more time than anyone could remember.

Later that day, sunset was falling over Letonna. Emperor Titus had just finished reading over the military progress reports for the Asclapo Islands. The Northern most Island has been taken, and preparations were being made for the southern one. There had been only 28 casualties when a landing craft hit a large underwater ledge and sunk, otherwise a complete success with no resistance. News of this spontaneous show of power and colonial ambition would likely bring some sort of political outcry for northern nations followed by some thrown together trade sanctions. The wealth that a new colony could bring to Letonna would eventully make up for the immediate costs and losses (or so he hoped). What worried him more was regional retaliation. He knew Union had made no claims, intentions, or concern to any of the Empires actions so far, and Mcmasterdonia was in league with him. Unpredictable nations would be Cozulul and Delfos, more importantly Cozulul. They had already made it clear they take hostilities to anyone who associated with Queen Matilda. But were they crazy enough to rush headlong into armed conflict without any official aid or ally? there was no way of immediantly telling...

When the only surviving drone came back to the Super Carrier named the Cosiedon, Captain Rodhonem watched the recorded video of the Letonnan Navy taking the northern island off the coast of Union. He immediately called in Biryndra Ommos to review the video and give him further instructions.

"Well, the first thing I have to say is that we need to put more funding towards these drones if we want more to continue to be in service. Besides that, I believe our TRS Member will get permission for us to use their aircraft to safely evacuate the southern island." said Biryndra.

"If you wish to do so, we would have to act fast and have those birds in the sky by tomorrow, you really think they would give us permission that fast?" questioned Captian Rodhonem.

"Of course they will, it is a mission to give a helping hand, which is what the TRS is all about." Biryndra reassured.

As if she was psychic, the TRS, which is based in Samarinda, Cozulul, had accepted Biryndra's request to use their transport aircraft to safely evacuate the populace of the southern most island off of Union.

The TRS pilots flew their Ospreys the next afternoon to the island in hopes of beating the Letonnan Navy, and evacuating the populace to safely bring them to The Federal Republic of Cozulul.

Biryndra was proud of this heroic and humanitarian effort that she had ordered. She knew that the populace of the islands would be happy to be saved....maybe.

The sun rise this far south was surely a unique experience. Great streaks of orange and yellow lit up the clouds, painting the naval grey warships with a soft fiery glow. The fleet had repositioned closer to the southern island over the night. Reports from arial and scout reconasance has reported cozulul military forces moving twards the southern island. The fleet admiral and his top staff phoned the capital, and were redirected to the Emperor himself. after some crackle, the communications officer in the background that they had a secure channel with an encoded signal.

"My lord," as the admiral and his stafff bowed their heads, "We have recent sightings of cozululian aircraft and rumored landing forces heading to the southern Asclapo island."

"Admiral...Use hostilities without discrimination and when opposed. The cozululians know their place, and they certainly know they've overstepped it, so they will be no less guilty in the deaths of our forces and the natives. best situiation we scare them away with a few minor exchanges, worst scenario you and the homeland will come under full attack. Either way, it is not unavoidable. Dismissed"

The men bowed their heads again. They could not see the Emperor, but he could see them(if he wanted). Once reasured the transmission was over, did they relax their posture. The admiral turned to the only man amungst them not in dress uniform.
"General Vaar, capture the northern part of the lower island and dig defensive positions. Contact me immediently if you see suspicious behaviour or experience agression. "
A slight bow and he was off.
"The rest of you return to your ships and have observers in all directions, as well as your anti aircraft defences on stand by."
After they had left the bridge of the flagship Conquest, The Admiral picked up his binoculars, and silently scanned the horizon for any movement.

En Route to the islands off the coast of Union, the Cozululian Osprey flew valiantly throughout the southern skies knowing that they had to beat the Naval fleet from Letonna to the islands. The plan was to land the osprey inland and send out infantry to scout out people to evacuate. The main problem that the troops would have, would be the language barrier with only a few soldiers knowing the Union or Letonna languages.

Whilst landing in the inner part of the island troops started leaving the aircraft in search of the islands populace to evacuate. One unit found a settlement of people and the unit immediately tried to evacuate them, when they expectantly attacked the soldiers with what seemed to be Letonnan weaponry. The soldiers were astonished and started to run but, most of them were killed.

Throughout the islands lush jungles/forests a loud cry for help echoed, "RUN! SAVE YOURSELVES!!!!"

Naturally the rest of the Cozululian infantry ran towards the sound to try and help, but when they got there they were also astonished how the natives attacked using Letonnan weaponry. They knew that they were to late. As if all hell broke loose gunfire echoed all throughout the island. The natives and the Letonnans fighting against the Cozululians. The Cozululians were greatly outmatched.

"GET TO THE OSPREY!" yelled the presiding general.

It was a mad dash to get to the aircraft and to get back home. The first few soldiers boarded the aircraft and started to take off as did the other aircraft. While flying away a whistle was heard through the sky as a missile bombarded one of the osprey knocking it into the water. Another missile fired another bird down. The other aircraft were lucky as they escaped the deadly grip of The Empire of Letonna.

Colonel Mevan Arethan sat at the desk in the Myrorian embassy in Letonna. It was strange, he thought, not sitting behind it. It had been many years since he was the one arriving - the one giving news to someone else - the one requested to stay put while the ambassador of Myroria left for a moment. He felt in his pocket for the picture of his son and his wife in his pocket and took it out to look at it. He had been fighting Neustrian rebels trying to encroach on Resdaynean territory. Marayn had been gone for... two years now. The rebels were still in their border fortress.

Now Myroria was sitting on the edge of another war - one with a real nation, not a bunch of rebels trying to carve out their own little set of farms and towns. Mevan looked at the flags perched on top of the embassy wall. One was the vertical banner of Myroria, the other the horizontal flag of the Cefnor Community. He knew deep down when it came down to it the Coalition would win. Or at least make peace. But how many sons would have to be lost before that happened?

"The staff's burning non-essential documents," said the ambassador, closing the door behind him. "How much longer before the evacuation can begin?"

"However long it takes for the choppers to get here. How many friendlies besides the staff are there?"

"Not many. Most have shown up already. I'd say no more than a hundred more." Mevan looked outside. He already saw 50 people out there. Myrorian, Eluvataran, Letonnan. The choppers hadn't even come yet. No more than a hundred. Right. Mevan stood up.

"Thank you, Ambassador. I have to give the order."

"Of course, Colonel." Mevan turned to leave. At least the Letonnans were letting them in. Any illegals in McMasterdonia - he had the feeling that they wouldn't be there much longer, but they wouldn't be leaving on Coalition helicopters.

Emperor Titus paced around his office while one of his generals stood at attention, steel faced and silent. Titus was pondering the recent coalition evacuation of citizens. although the gesture was a positive act in the dark feelings between the union and the coalition, doubtless it would do anything to help an eventual conflict. Titus turned to his top General
"General, have the coalition forces finished and moved to the designated distance offshore?"

"Yes m'lord. They had 12 hours to space, and the embassy is abandoned. We detect they have moved to at least 150 km offshore. We very certain that 99% of their forces have evacuated."

"Very good general."

Titus turned towards the window. It was raining as usual in Letonna City.

"How goes our conquest of the Asclapo Islands? Have the Cozulian forces intervened?"

"Yes M'lord, The northern island is ours, and we have most of the southern island under our control. The Cozulian forces did intervene and stole many natives from the islands. Our forces did succeed in driving them off, but they still hold the southern tip of the island and have a notable naval presence on the western shore."

"Deploy our fleets. Have the 7th defensive positioned in defensive formation off our northern coast. I want them to be on the look out for any cozulian ship or coalition vessel. I want all trade ships detained and captured, as well as any military ships sunk that come to close to our boarder. Then deploy the 3rd battle group to drive out the Cozulian navy off the Asclapo islands. Questions?"

"No M'lord"

With a bow the general left the office. When the door shut Titus let his posture slip, and slunched his shoulders. He sat down at his desk and took out his near empty bottle of fine Myrorian Brandy. It would be almost impossible to get his guilty pleasure with war on the horizon.

The cold water violently sploshed against the Super Carrier, Cozeidon. The Cozeidon was a true innovation. It was Superior in transportation of aircraft, and speed. Surrounding the Cozeidon , were submarines firing sonar waves in every direction in the event of another attack. Another defeat would be unacceptable. Biryndra could not afford another embarrassing loss. She put more funding towards the military in case of all out war. This next meet up with EoL would be A LOT different. This time FRoC was ready.

"Keep an eye out!" Screamed Captain Rodhonem. "We will defend the remaining part of this Island!"

Right as he finished his sentence a submarine's sonar picked up an unusual signal.

"Sir, we believe we have picked up the signal of Letonnan ships and submarines 17 knots away." said a shipmate.

"Be on the ready!" Rodhonem exclaimed.

Cozeus drones landing on the Cozeidon confirmed the sighting of Letonnan ships to the north.

Rodhanem had ordered the drones to head back out and try to deter them from coming any further.

Under the heavily stormy clouds of the southern seas of the Asclapo islands. A radar officer turned to the admiral, who was maintaining a steel scowl while overseeing his bridge officer.
"Sir, it looks like we will have a thunder storm within the hours, we won't be able to deploy landing vessels in this weather."
"Very well Leutinentant. Have the soldiers remain on stand by below deck. In the mean time have our escort ships-"
It was at that moment a smaller escort vessel suffered a large explosion off the starboard bow. Drones all of a sudden flew low over the fleet followed by a series of explosions a few seconds later. Without having to give the order, his flagship and some other vessels that could muster the man power erupted in anti aircraft fire. As the drones turned around and headed back into strike a second blow against the fleet, many of their numbers exploded in air. Only a few managed to succeed in dropping more explosives onto the fleet, and within a few minutes all had either been recalled or had been shot down.
Back in the bridge of the flagship Conquest the admiral retook control of his crew, who had partially fled their positions after a piece of shrapnel had blown through one of the front windows.
"Move us into attack position and prepare for full conflict. Send the damaged vessels with an escort back to port for repairs."
A military adviser chimed up from the safety the back of the bridge,
"Uhh, sir. Shouldn't we wire Emperor Titus for direct permission for fleet to fleet confrontation?"
"I don't have time to play bureaucracy and listen to Titus's broad and unspecific orders, we have only one clear option, and that's retaliation!"

While under rough seas and torrential downpour from the raging storm, the attack fleet sailed south east to the Cozulian fleet. Once they were on the horizion, bombing aircraft were released from an accompanied air craft carrier.  And when the Cozulian ships were within range of the large artillary of the Conquest all guns thundered and fired large explosive shells. The first shots of The Battle of South Asclapo had been fired.

Complete and utter chaos is what some would describe this battle. Planes and drones whizzing above bombing and firing at the Letonnan ships while dodging artillery shells and bullets. The seas were uncontrollable and dangerous. A storm above made everything much more difficult. Under the water was a different story, Submarines fired torpedoes at each other in a wild manner trying to get the upper hand. It was stalemate. The Cozeidon shadowing the entire battle like a giant.

The Letonnan admiral shouted to his submariners, "Fire at that behemoth!"

Like that, the submarines fired there remaining torpedoes at the Cozeidon. A loud screech confirming the ship was hit. It was a race for the remaining aircraft to get off and into the skies to fight. The left over drones were turned on and shot into the sky. The Letonnans might have started to sink the Cozeidon, but now the Cozululians had the upper hand in the sky. The drones and pilots started to attack any ship they could see.

However, again a stalemate arose. One side would get the upper hand, then the other...

The battle was already 90 minutes old. The Letonnian navy had already lost 6 escort ships and a few submarines, while the flag ship and air craft carrier suffer seveir topside damadge. It was right after a artillary shell blew out half the bridge of the Conquest that the admiral gathered his remaining alive officers.
"Message all ships, move out of the fray, and spread out in 4 directions. Have the submarines dive down and wait for furthur orders. We're going to trick them into thinking we're retreating, then swoop in and surround them."
A bloodied and battered officer spoke up "Sir, that makes many of our heavy ships open to heavy artillery from the rear."
The admiral stopped and thought. He appeared to go into a day dream, almost forgetting the urgency of the situation.
"we will leave something to keep them busy. Have the aircraft carrier stay behind and draw their fire."
The same bloodied officer objected "But....what of our men on that ship?!"
"There's no way that ship will make it through the battle at this rate. The men are doomed, and they might as well make one last sacrifice for their nation"

The men aboard the bridge were speechless. None of them could object, it was likley to work. However the obvious abandonment of thousands of crewmen was a little unsettling.
The order was sent out to all but one ship, the doomed aircraft carrier, and the ships made a retreat like formation is various directions. The captain of the air craft carrier frantically radioed the admiral. His pleas were ignored.
"Uh, Sir, shouldn't we at least tell them of the plan?" said one of the radio officers.
"NO! They might rebel and attempt's to flea as well, ruining our plan"
A few officers of the remaining bridge crew gave each other saddened disgruntled looks and carried on their work. The calls from the crew of the air craft carrier became more and more desperate until an explosion followed by various blood curteling screams finalized the transmissions. Nobody looked back as many large explosions were heard from the distance. A few of the officers took of their hats and bowed their heads, however most swallowed their guilt and feelings and carried on under the steel faced gaze of the admiral.

What seemed like eternity, was actually an hour and a half. The Letonnan ships seemed to be retreating except for  one.

"Sir, the Letonnans seem to be retreating, but are leaving behind a ship." an officer said.

"I have a feeling, but I am not sure. Nonetheless sink that ship, then we will see what to do next." responded Captain Rodhonem.

"Will do. Directing drones and transmitting message to pilots." retorted the officer.

The remaining drones and pilots flew through the lightning and rain to fire at the remaining ship. As soon as the first shot was fired against the remaining ship, the Letonnan crew was startled. They raced to battle stations but were not a match for the drones and pilots alone. The ship started to sink in a matter of minutes. It was defenseless without the rest of the armada.

Now in standby, everyone was wondering what was happening with the rest of the Letonnan armada. Everyone in command started to cheer uproariously, but not Captain Rodhonem. He just stood, arms folded, pondering...

The storm was starting to clean, and the afternoon sun was breaking through the clouds. Beams of sunlight lit up the spread out Letonnian fleet. The fleet spread out to form large arcs around the former battle area, and as the order was given, imminently swooped back in large waves ready for the second stage of the battle. The submarines which had dived to the bottom of the ocean began to rise and fire torpedo upward to the unsuspecting cozulians. Once the letonnian forces were within range all hell broke loose as deafening artillery broke the peaceful silence. Chaos arose again, and the sky was once again filled with fire and gunfire. The cozulians returned fire, and hit and sunk many of the smaller vessels, however the causalities were clearly more heavy on the cozulian side. An hour of constant barrage of artillery and torpedo fire had reduced the cozulian fleet to a crippled remnant of it's former glorious self. With the sun on the horizon, the Letonnian army ceased fire, and after a minute as did the cozulians.

The admiral of the letonnian fleet send a transmission to the cozullian fleet, which was quickly received. "Captain, you have been beaten. I demand your surrender, and evacuation of your vessels. You are to take life boats to your nearest port."
Captain Rodhonem made a angry scowl, and replied "You and me both know that's over 500 Km away, we'd never make it, especially in this weather"
With a slightly devious smirk the admiral said "This is none of my concern. You and I both know your involvement was uncalled for and unwarrented. You have 20 minutes to board your lifeboats before we sink your vessels."
Captain Rodhonem was outraged at this point. "THESE ARE WAR CRIMES! Let me save my men and we will leave the area in peace"
Now the Letonnian admiral was in a full evil looking smile, and he mused back "I think you forget captain, that we aren't officially at war, and leaving you ships to use against me in the future is not a risk I'm willing to take"
The Captain began to yell something but the call was broken. The admiral turned to one of the bridge technicians and said "give them 10 minutes, then open fire." Turning back to gaze at the cozulian fleet, the admiral still held a sicking smirk on his fact. One of the communication officers behind him said "Sir, the Emperor want's to know if you've encountered any resistance."
The smirk disappeared. Turning around to address the technician he said "Tell Titus we've just had some...rough seas". Turning around to relay the message, the technician couldn't help but noticing a evil glare in the admirals eyes.

With the storm clearing up around them, Captain Rodhonem had a decision to make. There was no way that they would make it to the nearest port, or for them to fight on. He decided to wire a message about the failure of the battle to Biryndra. She immediately asked what she could do. Rodhonem thought he had a plan.

"Chancellor, if we can get to the southern tip of the island by lifeboat, can you send your fastest transportation to pick us up?" questioned Rodhonem.

"I can, however, it will still take hours for the transportation to make it to your destination." replied Biryndra.

"I know, that is why we will surrender, get in the lifeboats and head towards the island, but what the Letonnans don't know is that I myself, will stay in the Cozeidon and let my crew go. I will then proceed to set the Cozeidon on a course strait at their main ship." Rodhonem hesitantly said.

"RODHONEM! You cannot be serious." exclaimed Biryndra.

"It was an honor serving for you m'lady..." Rodhonem replied.

------Connection Ended------

Rodhonem had explained to all of his crew what his plan was. Only a few objections came up, however Rodhonem ignored them and couldn't be convinced. He had ordered them all to board the life rafts. While they were boarding the life rafts, Rodhonem had contacted the Letonnan Fleet:

In broken Inglish, and accent, Rodhonem spoke, "Sir, we suvvender. Please give time, we ave evacuting ze vessel. Should be out in tirty minutees."

With a devilish smirk, the Letonnan Admiral responed, "Lovely..."

As soon as all of the life rafts were deployed, the crew started out for the island. Once Rodhonem saw this, he belted the Cozeidon forward full steam aimed at the ship that the Admiral was in. The Letonnan Crew was too busy celebrating their victory as they laughed at what they thought were weaker humans...
