The idea of starting up again has been tossed around a bit. With that, I was hoping we could do some planning to work out what we want in terms of mods we want, how many are interested, and how it would be hosted.
First things first, survival or creative?
If survival, what level of difficulty?
What mods would you like to see, if any?
If you were to play would you be able to pitch in towards the operating costs?
-
I'll second this!
-
I've done some browsing around looking for various hosts and came across creeperhost.net
They have a package with 1024MB RAM, 30GB disk space, and unlimited bandwidth for ~$15/month. From what I've seen they are both reliable and go above and beyond with customer service. They also give you the ability to install various mods yourself with some minimal support to quickly add some of them.
A bit later in the month I'd be willing to try them out for a month to see how we like it and how well it works for our needs. As for mods I'd probably install RedPower (it adds a few new things to mine, new blocks, some machines, and improves upon redstone.), chop tree to let me chop down trees in one fell swoop, RailCraft for improved rail things, and Industrial Craft.
To see how well this works I'm going to try and set up a MP server on a computer at home to see how well it works out.
-
I wouldn't mind running a minecraft server on this (fairly powerful) machine I recently built for a few weeks.
-
I'd be willing to chip in and see how Creeperhost is for a while.
-
If we're to do this then we're also going to need some mods more on the administrative side of things to help prevent griefing. Namely something to have groups set up so that unknown people can't come in and cause trouble and something to set up a jail.
-
I support this idea.
-
I believe before we decided that only white-listed people should be able to place or remove blocks, and that people would need a sponsor to be added to the white-list who would be liable if they went psychotic or something like that.
-
I'll second this!
-
I'd dust off minecraft to play it again for a little while.
-
We probably should stop discussing this perpetually if we're serious and decide on something.
-
But perpetual discussion is the Taijitu way :(
-
Fine. Continue the discussion.
-
I've gone ahead and ordered the server. It is currently in the setup phase.
For now I'll be leaving it as vanilla minecraft until addons are updated for 1.2.5.
More details will be posted when I have them.
-
Finally I will be able to build my KITTEH SANCTUARY and raise KITTEHS.
-
Maybe you should raise Sea Kittens!

-
i want to see the kitteh sanctuary, and frolic with the kittehs
-
I think my squid sanctuary is a much more worthy cause.
-
GULLIVER YOU AND ME NEED TO MAKE NEW DEATH MACHINES?! K THANKS BAI
-
The vanilla 1.2.5 server is up. Currently it is set to peaceful survival mode and a whitelist is in place.
I believe I have the following people added to the whitelist properly: Letonna, Elu, Myro, and Wast.
If you are not on this list or have trouble getting on just send me a message and I'll see what I can do to fix it.
-

I don't understand. How can anything be more worth than KITTEH? I am disappointed in you, Gulliver. I thought you were going to help me build the Kittehdome.
-
I'd rather make an Iron Golem reserve, they're a bit more useful.
-
Kittehdome?!
-
saying that the server can be found at taijitu.us22.creeperhost.net would probably be a good idea.
-
Can I haz whitelest plsz? My username is tanonster.
-
added
-
Is Principlessily on the whitelist?
-
RedPower and Railcraft are both updated for 1.2.5
Once they have bukkit ports I'm going to install them. This leaves us with a slight issue for the current map. I can either keep the current map and have the mods added in, but this means any new things would only appear in unloaded chunks. Or I can start things over using the same seed so that new items are there from the start at the cost of anything already built.
I honestly don't care which way we do it.
I also want to have us vote on various things, so post your vote using the ballot below:
Game Type: < Survival | Creative >
Difficulty: < Peaceful | Easy | Normal | Hard >
Flying: < Yes | No >
Enemies: < Yes | No >
Height Limit: < 128 | 256 >
After installing mods: < Start Over | Keep Current Map >

Game Type: < Survival>
Difficulty: < Normal>
Flying: < No>
Enemies: < Yes>
Height Limit: <256>
After installing mods: < Start Over>
Additional Mods: Please make it so creepers can hurt you, but not create craters. Other than that, I have no opinion on any additional mods.

Additional Mods: I agree about the creepers.

Game Type: <Survival> The "let's rape the Earth itself with giant automatic quarries" mods would be pointless otherwise

Additional Mods: What they said about the creepers.

Additional Mods: why not ALL the mods?!

There are terabytes and terabytes of mods.
-
It seems everyone so far is in complete agreement that is should be a survival server with enemies set on normal difficulty and a max height of 256.
As for the creepers issue I have found the following plugin found here (http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/safe-creeper/) which would enable me to disable creepers from damaging the world but still let them hurt players and give some control over endermen picking up blocks.
Another question I forgot to ask: PVP; enabled or disabled?
edit: towlie, Elu, and wast are the only ones I know who play minecraft and are still around right now. Until I see how at least one of them votes I can't declare that a majority is in favor of the choices of flying and map status.
-
I think PVP would work well but I'd like it more if it wasn't set up where people could just come up behind someone and kill them willy-nilly.
-
I agree with Myroria

There is a mod called factions specifically to protect people and areas in a pvp environment.
-
Flying is allowed now. You'll need to get your own mod to fly (or I need to find one updated to the current version of craftbukkit).
The build height has been changed to 256.
SafeCreeper installed. While not currently enabled creepers will not damage the world.
I will be changing the difficulty to normal sometime Thursday, so be prepared.
-
Monsters are now enabled on normal difficulty and safecreeper is working properly
-
I was so sadly unprepared for those monsters.
-
We are now running Red Power 2 ported for CraftBukkit. This means we have full Bukkit capabilities while getting use of the red power mod.
This means however that you will need to install the following mods: ModLoader, Forge, Red Power.
Here are links to their respective locations where each also has installation instructions
ModLoader (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/75440-v125-risugamis-mods-everything-updated/)
Forge (http://minecraftforge.net/forum/)
Red Power (http://www.eloraam.com/)
I have also installed the WorldEdit plugin so that I can take areas of land and force them to be reloaded with new ores and blocks. This makes all blocks in a selected area as if they had just been discovered so anything done in that area will be reverted. Any mines dug will be undug, any blocks placed will vanish, any ore mined will reappear with new ores. I'm willing to apply this to whatever area people want, just be aware of how drastic a change this is.
