If you choose social policies it'll raise your tax, it's normal at the begining to have really high taxes if you want to have a social progressive nation, the trick is to slowly lower them through lowering taxes options, it takes ages.

Up at the top of the page, hover your cursor over the Profile menu and select Forum Profile from the drop-down. On this page, scroll down to find the "Signature" option. Use image tags like these (without the spaces) to include a .gif: [ img ]your image url[ /img ]

Otherwise, please understand that NationStates is, objectively, a left-winged game.  A socialist nation just will do better than a free-market one.

This is definitely false. If you want an example of that, look at [nation]Funkadelia[/nation], a free market nation with a very hands off government. My nation is extremely successful.

I'm bit saying it's impossible, but it takes a LOT more time to get your stats high with a right-winged nation.

It's easy to up your Political and often your Civil rights in a left-winged nation but it takes fucking forever to develop a non-terrible Economy rating. I have to strike a very careful balance with issue responses or mine tanks!
