Hmmm, the help desk is now ran by a woman...

*Oz side steps to the counter* "How are you doing today?"

Whaaaaaat, no coffee for me?

Quote
wait can you post up OZ FOR DELEGATE posters?

Wait a minute, let me put on my secretary glasses so I can answer this all official-like.  Okay, I'm ready now.  *ahem*

While we can certainly appreciate the Mightiness that is Oz, and the Coolness of his recent performance of a certain Marriage Ceremony of Great Importance, our Community Office must remain unbiased, and to that end, cannot allow the posting of one candidate's posters and not all others as well.  Which of course would be most inconvenient, because they'd take up all the wall space, leaving no room for our post-it notes.  And then they'd cover the windows too.  And then our electric bill will skyrocket because we'd have to keep the lights on all the time.  And then we'd go bankrupt.  And then Allama would be fired for having let that happen.  And then we'd ALL be sorry, because Allama would go off in a huff and sit by herself to eat a whole lot of cookies.  We don't want THAT to happen, now, do we?

Ah, PUR, you're a life saver!  Seems the office coffeemaker's on the fritz.  Must remember to call a repair guy about that.  Assuming that's covered in the budget that we don't have yet.  Be sure to grab some cookies from the table over there under the balloons.  Just be careful not to trip over any boxes.  We haven't finished moving the furniture around yet, ya know.

Thanks for the coffee, dearest.  Khab, well said.  We must remain unfettered by the concerns of partisan politics, and nonpartisan as well, if such a thing exists, after all.

I am doing well, Oz.  Thank you for asking.  How are you?

What, money from me? What do I look like, the Bank of Taijitu or something?
Title: Re: The Help Desk
Post by: Khablan on July 11, 2007, 11:06:00 PM
My thanks, oh Mighty Leader Gunner, sir.  We shall ever strive to uphold the dignity of this office and make it a beacon for the helpless, the curious, and the confuzzled.  Donations of coffee not required (although eagerly accepted, of course).

Alright, ladies and gentlemen, line forms to the left, free cookies on the right, and free bumper stickers saying "I got my question answered at the CO!" are by the door.

Quote
What, money from me? What do I look like, the Bank of Taijitu or something?

Ah, a question!  Now, after giving due consideration, I have concluded that Soly does not, in fact, look like the Bank of Taijitu, which is large and fat and grossly ornate, while Soly is sleek and somewhat furry, and not particularly ornate.  Although, of course, he IS the Minister of Finance, and gets the comfortable chair and all.
Title: Re: The Help Desk

Excellent. And now if you'll excuse me, I'll curl up in that chair and wait for somebody to pet me. Or clients.

((One must show proper respect for Soly's office, of course, and so Khab scritches behind his ears.  Besides, who could resist an opportunity like that?))

Next he'll start wanting us to put out a bowl of cream before we head out for the night.

Here, Mama Khab, I brought a new coffeemaker.  How's the weather, by the way?  I would ask if you wanted to go out and get some coffee, but I suppose that would be redundant.
Title: Re: The Help Desk
Post by: Khablan on July 17, 2007, 10:41:46 PM
Coffee, yay!  Aren't you sweet.  Far be from -me- to ever suggest such thing... aaaaalright, who just giggled at that!  Here, have a cookie.  Have another.

The weather is fine, but then it's always sunny in the CO, thanks to our heavy-duty halogen bulbs.  Help keeps us awake just in case someone pops in.  We're open all night, you know.  Our neighbor, the Minister of Finance, hasn't complained about the glaring light yet, but then he's part cat of course, so he's used to napping in brightly lit spaces.

A part-cat Minister of Finance and free ,angelically good cookies?  God, I love Taijitu.

I wanted to change my sig, but it tells me to contact an administrator whenever I try.  I wanted to insert a picture into my sig...http://forum.taijitu.org/real-life/harry-potter!/45/ (http://forum.taijitu.org/real-life/harry-potter!/45/)

But of course cookies.  A whole table full.  How else do you think we sucker convince people to come see us?

Aaaand since you asked about the weather, that qualifies you for one of our lovely bumper stickers that say "I got my question answered at the CO!"  We're thinking about adding baseball caps for those who've asked five or more.

*clears throat*  I have a question.

I'm doing an ambassadorial report on Taijitu for Equilism, and we'd like to know: what are some important historical events in Taijitu's history?  Also, do you have a document or documents detailing your alliances with other regions, or is there just the list of embassies?

Oh, and I brought coffee.  *offers tray*  Caramel macchiato, gourmet French roast, iced white mocha, or pumpkin spice, anyone?
Title: Re: The Help Desk

Pumpkin spice?  You really are a dear, aren't you?  ;D

I'll start my research straight away and get back to you as soon as I can.  In the meantime, please enjoy the complimentary champagne and cookies.

I can promise you that while Soly's joining was most significant, we'll absolutely fill you in on a bit more of the surrounding details, before and after.  Even if we have to poke every last oldster in Taijitu to get the scoop.  Hear that, people?  Don't make me get out my Spatula!

While you're waiting, please enjoy our lovely selection of Muzak, fresh from an elevator near you.  At least there's plenty of cookies in here, so you won't starve!   :D

I do believe you're right, Nai!  I doubt anyone's likely to forget this for awhile.

And Soly, this isn't actually a suggestion desk.  True, more interesting titles might be nice.  But I'll speak to the powers-that-be about it.

Title: Re: The Help Desk

Trey, there are some issues with certain symbols on the profile.  Particularly ' and " so try removing any symbols in it and see whether that works.
Title: Re: The Help Desk
Post by: Allama on July 24, 2007, 01:11:23 PM
Trey, I had a very similar problem for weeks a while back.  It eventually fixed itself, I must suppose, as no one could tell me what I was doing wrong after I stopped using quotes and BB code.  It works now, though, code and all.  Does it come up as a "Hacking attempt" when you try to submit your changes?
Title: Re: The Help Desk
Post by: Trey on July 24, 2007, 06:37:11 PM
Nope, no hacking.  At this point, I'm just trying to delete a quote in my sig.  I also want to add a picture, but these last few attempts have been solely deleting that one quote, and it won't even let me do that.  Also, for some reason, when I try to scroll down in the sig box, it will automatically scroll to the top, so anything I want to highlight/delete on the bottom is a blind action.

Also, I was just wondering...who writes/controls the news feed always at the top of the screen?

I'm going to assume you're not in the USA, then, as I know standard US keyboards don't have that.  A bourgeois grunt basically meaning, "I'm rich, bitches.", huh?  I'm going to have to use that more often.

I need to know about something. I got this message when I was requesting an embassy in Lazarus.
Quote
Despite the fact that your delegate ejected around 190 of your natives to the RR and then himself moved there in order to take the place over...

Aparrtenly this was something to do with a place called RR. Can someone please tell what this is all about?
Title: Re: The Help Desk
Post by: Khablan on July 27, 2007, 05:17:18 AM
Hoo boy have you missed some news.

Basically what happened is that our delegate ejected a number of nations, which sent them to the Rejected Realms.  These nations had all endorsed our delegate, and so that meant he was able to move into RR himself and take over RR's delegate seat.  This was planned as a strategic military move, and was meant to be temporary - only lasting a day or so, and then he'd give back control to RR and we'd all come back home.  What our delegate didn't anticipate was the huge public outcry over it, both within Taijitu and in the rest of the world.  Things are settling down now, but it's making foreign relations a bit sticky for us at the moment.  I'd suggest waiting awhile until people have had time to get past it.

If there's a problem with our relations with Lazarus, I strongly encourage you to post about it in the Ambassador HQ so the MoEA or DMoEA know what's going on.  Or at least message Korinna about it.

^ Couldn't have said it better myself, Mama.

Trey - I would see Eluvatar about your problem, or perhaps Oz.  He is also wise in the ways of the forum.

Should the University be sponsored by the government?

Do you mean you'd like to pay salaries to all the professors, or maybe just to professors deemed "active and worthy" contributors or somesuch?  Fund events?  Pay the Dean?
Title: Re: The Help Desk

Yes.
Title: Re: The Help Desk
Post by: Allama on July 27, 2007, 03:37:03 PM
Well, I would suggest talking to the Minister of Finance about it.  Oh wait, that's you!  Nevermind that step.  Now all that's left to do is propose a law amendment to the Senate.

I think it would be nice to pay per lecture, perhaps with a minimum word count or something to ensure the quality of the service for which Professors would be paid.  Just an idea, of course.

Oh that's top secret information, Trey.  Limi can't tell you where all the skeletons are buried, or he'd have to send an assassin after you.  And we can't have that, now can we?  Although we can show you Bob.  He's in the closet right over there.  Bob, you see, tried to commit an armed robbery in here to try to steal all our cookies.  That's all that's left of him.  We drag him out to drag the tree in the front yard every Halloween.

Ironically though, he'd learn where the skeleton are buried once he was assassinated. I'm not sure where Limi buries them, but if you look at the third plank behind the bar in the tavern you'll see a lose floor board... that leads to the catacombs where I bury all my skeletons. Plenty of room left so feel free to drop off as many as you need.

Why'd someone try to take the cookies by armed robbery? Aren't they free?! *Taco takes a few 'free' cookies*

Hello,

Q: How would you suggest new nations form up their resources, and statistics? Including natural resources, military, and citizen and what not ... ? Also what would you suggest about making a history for your nation, aswell as a map, or flag?

Thanks,
Kevin
Title: Re: The Help Desk
Post by: Khablan on August 10, 2007, 06:22:11 AM
Hi Kevin!

Here's a link that some of us use for the stats - Economy Statistics (http://www.sunsetrpg.com/economystatistics.php)

St Oz can put your nation on the RP map (http://forum.taijitu.org/the-map/0/), but I can't personally give you any recommendations on that.  Allama might have some insight.

As for history and such, I suggest having a look at different National Statistics (http://forum.taijitu.org/national-statistics/0/) pages.  You don't need to post everything at once.  People often post some bare essentials and then add to it over time.

Flags and such, I'm not sure of.  Hope you're getting some good leads in IRC.  Or maybe someone else will post some suggestions here.

RP is RP. Whatever you want it to be. Use your imagination. Some people have an entire history in their head, and just use that as their basis, others come here and add little bits here and there until they think they're good. Resources you can pick to suit where you're placed on the map, which can be anywhere left (black space). You can ask for any design you want, though Oz adds his own details, most of the time. And... sometimes people make their own map and post it, so... it really doesn't matter. Citizens is controlled by your NS country, though Oz has said that RPers should reduce by 1/6th, like he has, but... Oz is huge, so... moving on. Flags... I know you PMed Tweedy, but I-S can make flags too in his RP shop. Just in case you wanted another option.

Your friendly RPer,
Talmann

Hello New Callande!

Actually, individual citizens don't set up our alliances.  What you should do is contact our Minister of External Affairs; Korinn handles the negotiations and whatnot for all of our embassy exchanges.  You can send him a PM here (http://forum.taijitu.org/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=32) with your request.  :)  I hope that helps!

Cheers,
Alana

Actually, Collatica, I'm currently writing one up.  I'll be posting at least a basic one in the near future, and then we can finetune things as we go.  If you happen to have any thoughts on specific things you'd like to see included in it, I hope you'll post it - we have a thread here in the Community Office for suggestions on it.  Being new to the region, you might think of things that we wouldn't.   :)

Maybe a bit of a guide on getting things started in the whole roleplay section would be useful. Found there's quite a lot to do in many different places. Like the national stats, the map, resources etc...

Also yeah probably good to make it clear powerplayers will just get ignored, giving examples of what powerplay is. I'm aware of what it is but other new nations to the region might not be familiar with RP and might want to get into it.

Akka is quite right, Desert!  Feel free to trade endorsements with other nations, so long as you keep it to a reasonable level.  If you climb toooo high you may get a warning to stop accumulating endos or to lower your count, but I suggest not getting to that point in the first place.  We don't fancy endo-tarting much around here, but a little bit of it is a part of the game.  ;)

There is a Guide, actually!  The Guide to Taijitu (http://forum.taijitu.org/information/guide-to-taijitu/0/) is descriptions of all the different areas of the forum, many of which have pertinent information about what you can do there.  The Taijitu FAQ (http://forum.taijitu.org/information/taijitu-faq/0/) will answer many queries you may have about the way the region works, how you can be a part of it, and what goes on here.

The Delegate certainly can appoint himself as a Minister; it's quite legal as far as I can tell.  In fact, he would have to if he could not find someone to fill a legally-mandated position.  He could also do it for laughs or to obtain another title, but that would be rather self-defeating as the reason Ministers exist is to do the work of the executive branch that the Delegate would otherwise have to take care of personally.  It is important to note, however, that the Senate has the authority to remove Ministers from their positions if they have:
Quote
violated the Constitution and laws of Taijitu, broken their oath or failed to fulfill their duties
...so a Delegate who gave themselves such a position would have to do their job properly or risk facing a vote of no confidence.

The Important Tai People list is a personal, fun list updated by our resident pandaboy, Algerianbania, and not an official list of everyone who "matters" in our humble community.  It is awesome, though.  ;D  If you'd like to see it updated, you should contact him by posting in that thread or sending him a message.  (Don't fret if it takes a while to get a response; he's been a busy boy lately.)

As for the Wiki, I am clueless.  Maybe the Del takes care of updating it, maybe it's a group effort... I never even look at it, to be honest.  If anyone else knows, kindly share!  That's a good question!

As for the Wiki, I am clueless.  Maybe the Del takes care of updating it, maybe it's a group effort... I never even look at it, to be honest.  If anyone else knows, kindly share!  That's a good question!
Yup I read the guide--and the constitution ( 3 times, lol and I still have to read it again!) SO apart from Algeriabania's fun personal list-is there an official list of whose who around here? Understandably with elections every 3 months it would have to be regularly updated...who are the other officials besides Pragmia with dual or more positions?

Actually, there is not an official Who's Who list... hmmm, that may need to be changed.  ;D

As for multiple-position members, here is a list off the top of my head that I reserve the right to edit later and pretend was perfect all along:

Allama - Justice (temporary), Minister of Community (as of the end of the current trial), Senator
Durnia - Justice, Senator
Gallipoli-China - Justice, Senator
Khablan - Justice, Minister of Community, Senator
Korinn - Vice Delegate, Minister of External Affairs, Senator
Of Crazed - Minister of Awesome, Senator
PoD Gunner - Minister of Defense, Senator
Pragmia - Delegate, Senator
Sovereign Dixie - Deputy Minister of Defense, Senator
St Oz - Minister of Regional Security, Senator
The G Rebellion - Justice (temporary), Senator

Note: I did not include Ambassadors, Army Members, or Recruiters on this list.  Also, feel free to correct me on anything I may have gotten wrong or forgotten.  ^_^

Wow, Mama Khab's in all three branches of Gov't, Legislative, Executive, Judicial, and not to mention she's a citizen as well...

Thanks for the list! Very helpful, indeed.
There are two Ministers of Community?
and what is the job difference between Minister of Defense and Minister of Regional Security?
Somewhere I saw there was a list of the founders of Taijitu too ( I'll have to look around and find it and then match that to the list you provided as well.)

Sovereign Dixie*
PoD Gunner*
The Crazy Monkeywoman
Eluvatar
Myroria
St Oz*
Korinn**
The G Rebellion*

* indicate founders who currently hold elected or appointed government positions as well.
** govt. official since day one of Taijitu

Well, Khablan was appointed Minister of Community but has been AFK for so long I'm taking the position over once the trial is done... I didn't want to take her title away without knowing whether or not she would retain it.  Plus, we were both MoC simultaneously once before and all was well.  ^_^

MoD runs the armed forces while MoRS keeps things secure on a more secretive level, preventing forum destruction, spying by other regions, and probably a bunch of other things I don't know about.

Founders are positions of respect, but have no governmental power or privileges beyond that.  I chose not to include that on the list as well as it doesn't really affect how many duties a player has.

That's cool...I just found it relevent to see how many of the founder's are also in appointed or elected positions...despite their not having any specific priveledges beyond meriting respect; a priveledge citizen nations as well, might merit.

well the games board is an easy place to start, just open any thread you like there, most of them are explained on the first post of the thread. maybe you'd like to start a blog?(they're in the real life section) That way, it's easier for us to get to know you too! Maybe make a visit to the Academy?
Explore around a bit and see what tickles yer fancy, clicking open threads here and there reading a bit, try posting back too...if you'd like help with a step by step process feel free to send me a private message by clicking on my nation name (left sidebar) and I'll see what I can do.

B9 gave you some very good advice; thanks hun!  ^_^  To elaborate a little, this is all about an online community revolving around the game of NationStates, with which I assume you are at least mildly acquainted.  If I am mistaken, of course, feel free to ask more questions here or via PM and I'll be happy to help out.

The Taijitu FAQ (http://forum.taijitu.org/information/taijitu-faq/0/) should answer the rest, especially in the second question we listed wherein you'll see many of the numerous possibilities for you in Taijitu!  ^_^  If you want to know where to go to do all of those things, check out the Guide to Taijitu (http://forum.taijitu.org/information/guide-to-taijitu/0/) - this is where you'll find a break-down of the forum and what each section has to offer.

I have two questions:
1) How do I increase my regional influence?
2) Has the creator of this game really abandoned it?
Title: Re: The Help Desk

1. Regional Influence is based on two factors. Time and number of Endorsements.

2. That's the rumor.

The creator has not forgotten about the game. Otherwise he would just let it die. He knows there is a following to it and continues to support it through providing hosting and renewal of the domain. In fact several players have recently communicated to him via e-mail

How can I know how big my national army is? What can I use as parameter?
Title: Re: The Help Desk
Post by: Allama on April 04, 2008, 01:18:55 PM
The general rule of thumb for RPing your nation's army is to use common sense.  For example, if your nation has 20 million people in it and your army has 1,000,000 members... that's just ridiculous.  That large of a percentage in the armed forces would destroy your economy.  Etc.

Here's a link to the RP FAQ: http://forum.taijitu.org/information/taijitu-faq/msg90362/#msg90362 (http://forum.taijitu.org/information/taijitu-faq/msg90362/#msg90362)
