Title: The Pirate War
Post by: Cantr on November 05, 2007, 05:12:23 PM
Seth looked at the maps of the two Pirate Isles on the computer screen.  A red dot had been placed on every position that might hold a secret bunker or pirate hideout.  Half of both islands was covered in red.  Clearing this place out could take months.  There was only one major city on both islands, the unofficial capitol of Dellan, a large, sprawling city which contained nearly five million people, more than half of which lived in slums.  The rest of the island was populated sparsely by small towns and villages.
This was Seth's first command, and he had no intention of botching it up while fighting, of all things, pirates and mafia thugs.  He had the enemy horribly outmatched and intended to use sheer shock and awe to rip them to shreds.  He was certain that if he could kill all the Pirate Lords in spectacular manner, obliterating their hideouts with air strikes and leveling their plantations with artillery, that their underlings would cease all criminal activity for fear of being caught in the purge.
Air bases in the province of Drel would launch the air strikes while the naval bases in the same province would launch Cantr's small fleet of K130 corvettes which would be more than enough to neutralize the pirate "fleet". The enemy fleet consisted mostly of civilian vessels with, on occasion, guns grafted onto them, according to intel.  After neutralizing the fleets, several San Antonio class transports would deposit marines on the shores while C-2 aircraft modified for paratrooper drops landed commandos in strategic areas near the beaches and small ports which would be the targets of the amphibious assault.  These assaults would be carried out one or two at a time, occurring as the fleets arrived at their target areas, slowly encircling the first target island, the southern island where Dellan was located.
After the troops landed and secured their landing points, further reinforcements would be sent and the troops would begin making their way, with as much stealth as possible, to the city of Dellan, where several of the Pirate Lords lived in mansions of varying degrees of decadence.  After securing the capitol, they would use it as a base of operations while slowly investigating each and every red dot on the map.
Meanwhile, by the time Drellan had fallen, a similar amphibious invasion of the second island would have been carried out, using a similar plan, but using instead of one impregnable headquarters, multiple hidden bases located throughout the island to hunt down the Pirate Lords.

While Seth fully expected there to be some flaw in his strategy, he didn't think the Pirate Lords would be intelligent or well-equipped enough to exploit them.

The house sat on a cliff about 12 meters above the ocean shore.
It was old, mostly made out of rocks held together more by their own weight than anything else.
The wooden roof had sagged in at places that were covered with camouflaged cloth from a military tent.
It had one door made of planks and a window towards the land that was nailed shut.
On the opposite side of the door was another window looking out to the sea.
There stood a wooden table and on it a heavy machine gun.
Behind the weapon on a creaky chair sat a man with a wild beard and filthy hair.
Carit cursed
„Why do I have to take guard duty“ he mumbled to himself.
„Those bastards going out for some good loot and I have to sit here and watch the damn ocean.“
He grabbed the field bottle from the table and took a deep sip.
„Ahhr, damn fine stuff“ he said taking another one.
The alcohol ran down his throat warming him up from the inside.
Those Cantrian assholes had been fighting this civil war for what, 2 or 3 decades now?
Occupied with killing themselfes they never had found the time to come out here.
A few times some fishermen together with local militia had tried and failed.
„Why do I have to be on guard“ he said again this time louder.
He took a big gulp, put the bottle back on the table and leaned into the chair.
Loyan beer. Another of the advantages of being a pirate.

Kanji was not pleased, not at all.
He sat in the corner of the cafe far to the rear.
It was not his usual place. Normally he would sit in one of the shadier bars and wait for his contacts to approach him.
He had been fencing stolen goods for the pirate lords for many years.
The poor boy who could not afford shoes had become a rich man.
And now everything had gone to hell in a hand basket.
His imperial asshole Daichi had done what everyone had thought unthinkable. He had ended the civil war that had lasted almost a decade.
He had united Cantr under his flag and the damn country was happy. Peace at last.
Kanji had barely seen a school in his life. Most things he had learned on the streets and from his mother.
His father was usually too drunk to think straight. Something about the war and his elder brother.
Mother usually cried when father mentioned him.
Kanji had never met his older brother, only seen him on photographs wearing some sort of uniform.
But he was not a dumb men. He could see were this was leading too.
„Game over“ he thought.
He had read the Emperors speech in the papers and he had liquidated all his assets. He already was on his way out. If luck was with him he would be on his way to Loyan by morning.
„Damn it all. It was a good time but what the fuck.“ He raised his glass. „Farewell to good times“ he said and emptied the drink.

The attack had begun.  In three quiet port towns a fleet of five corvettes each had appeared at 0400 hours and unleashed a hail of cannon fire upon all vessels docked in the harbor, no matter how civilian they appeared.  The cannon fire sounded like thunder, it struck like lightning.  The vessels were ripped to shreds within minutes.  Then the corvettes turned their attention to the shores, annihilating everything that might hold a machine-gun nest, while commandos, hardened veterans of the Cantr Wars, air-dropped behind the towns, several hundred men to each town, and began a lightning strike from behind, seeking to seize the town before the pirates knew what hit them.

The initial attack was underway.  Fighter-bombers were already en route.  If street-to-street fighting broke out, these fighters, along with the corvettes, would deliver the support strikes necessary to level enemy positions and overawe any and all resistance.  If all went according to plan, all three towns would be captured within minutes, at which point the fleets would move on while the first wave of C-2s headed back to base to restock and the second wave took their place for the next coastal targets.

Seth watched from the bridge of one of the corvettes, and could see the first squad of commandos emerging from the wilderness.  By this time tomorrow, he thought to himself, All of this islands ports will be mine.  And by nightfall tomorrow, so will Drella.

I don't mind. But lets wait what Cantr has to say.

Carit woke to a short thundering sound.
He opened his eyes slowly and cursed his heavy head. He had emptied his beer filled canteen and fallen asleep.
„Damn tropical thunderstorms“ he thought. Looking out he saw that the sky was clear. The rumbling continued and as he slowly came to his senses he recognized the sound.
It was to sharp and short for thunder.
„Gunfire“ he yelled and jumped behind his machine-gun.
Someone was attacking but from where, where.
He looked out at the black sea.
From the corner of his eye he saw orange flashes.
He leaned out of the window and looked down to the small harbor village. The bay was filled with burning ships and some of the sheds were aflame. From somewhere out at the ink black darkness he could see flashes and streaks of light and fire.
„Tracer rounds and that sounds like big ones“
„Damn this is big, too big for you Carit my old man“ he yelled and ran towards the door nearly falling over the chair.

Laek had fallen asleep on the mattress.
His group called themselves the „Bloody Sharks“ A bunch of kids with an attitude and a boat with guns.
They had been hassling fishermen and small coastal villages.
Also had cooperated with some of the other gangs in plundering a tanker out on the sea.
A small fuel carrier that had come back from Loyan filled with, of all things fuel oil.
They had split the loot and made a fortune in one go. Even with the deduction of the tribute to their Boss Captain Drags it was enough to  buy a speed boat. Maybe something bigger.
He could ask Captain Drags for a drug run. And maybe work his way up. A bigger boat, a bigger route. Drugs to Loyan and Terrangar and other places.
But first they had to party like real pirates.
Alcohol, good grass and a bunch of lint balls and girls.
He had ordered them from one of the brothels.
He slept and dreamed.
He would not wake up from his dream in this lifetime.
The three 76 mm rounds struck at 0403 and ripped the old wooden storage shed apart.

To the Government of Cantr

We are receiving reports of Cantrian criminals harassing Loyanese commercial shipping and committing felony in the region. Our coast guards have also seized several tons of illicit drugs headed for our shores and State Police has apprehended several Cantr citizens attempting to purchase arms without license approval. Such lawlessness is unacceptable to us and we deem it as a threat to our State's security. If you cannot maintain order and law within your jurisdiction, the PRL will be force to take drastic actions to resolve this matter.

For the time being, we are closing our borders to Cantr and your private citizens are now blacklisted under Customs. Any Cantrian vessel entering our waters without authorization from your government will be deny entry. We are taking these precautions to maintain our security and safety. If you require any assistance from us in dealing with rampant criminal elements in your country, we will be happy to help.

Good Day

Foriegn Ministry of Loyan

Loyan,
We have already taken action to deal with the pirates, and we expect the problem to be resolved before the end of the year.  In the meantime, anything you can do to starve the pirates income can only help.  Although we appreciate the offer for assistance against the pirates, we find that as a united nation we are more than capable of taking care of our own crime problems.

In our mutual interest to contain these criminals, DI will wire you traffic logs from OHT Station A and our patrol units.

------------------------------------------------------------
"Drop any weapons and put your hands up!"

Cries and curses spill from the deck of the trawler. Dirty men snared and barked at him.

"I said put your hands up right now!!!"

Marine private Hensen squeezes off a few rounds into the water, just missing the trawler's side. The 30mm rounds hit the surface hard and water shot up twenty feet into the air. The effect was enough to quiet the rowdy crew on the suspicious ship. Hensen's captain step out from behind a shield and yells through his loudspeaker.

"Attention unknown vessel, you have trespass Loyanese waters! We are apprehending you for suspicion of criminal intention and smuggling. Prepare to be boarded! Anyone without their hands shown...will be shot!"

Hensen kept his cannon train on the grumbling men in front. All of them didn't seem like proper civilians, most definitely troublemakers from Cantr.

"We're boarding you! Keep you hands visible!" yells out a marine commander. A walk plank drops down into the small boat, and the marine squad carefully waltz on board, sub machine guns cocked and ready. Those back on deck the C.L.S Iron Guard kept a careful eye on the trawler's crew, ready to shoot at the first sign of trouble.

The marines quickly takes down the crewmen and cuffs them. A second marine squad come aboard and enter the hatch below deck. A flash grenade and much yelling afterwards, the squad comes out with three more suspects.

"Captain, we got weapons and cargo below deck!"
"What sorts?"
"Assault rifles and fake Odoria purses, imitation face creams, knockoff gold jewelry..."

The smugglers are pull on board and searched. After seething through lice and odd trinkets, nothing was found to pinpoint their citizenship or origin. Hensen finds himself questioning one of the suspects.

"Where you from?"
"Suck my dick bitch!"
"Where the fuck are you from?"
"Your mom's a whore, fuck face!"

Hensen punches the man hard in the cheek, knocking him off his chair. The man groans and rolls on the floor in pain.

"ANSWER ME!!!" Hensen picks up the man and throws him back into the chair. He delivers two more punches to the gut.

After that, the man passed out and Hensen was relieve from interrogation duty. Aggravated, he heads to the ship's lounge for cup of tea. His friend, Ship Hand Yojen was there.

"Heard you beat a suspect unconscious..."
"Fucker wasn't talking!" Hensen angrily replies. He grabs a paper cup out from a wall dispenser and fills it with hot black tea from an auto kettle.
"Heaven, calm down man," Yojen responds. "So, how's your sister doing?"

Hensen turns to Yojen with a irritated expression. "You stay away from my sister, or I'll bust you up like that suspect..."
"Hey, I meant nothing, just asking..."

Yojen quickly scoots out of the lounge, lest Hensen carries out his threat.

OOC: Barakarin, you can join as a Pirate Lord, if you want.  If I were you, I'd take one of the Pirate Lords who control the northern island, as the southern island will likely be half-conquered before it knows what hit it.

IC: Kuandu stepped carefully behind a tree, his last cover before entering the town.  Twenty feet of empty space stretched out between him and the cover of the first hut.  And, of course, Kuandu had picked the short straw and had to make the dash through open ground.  He sprinted from his position and made a mad dash for the cover of the hut.  He leapt the last five feet and smashed into the side of the hut.  It wasn't a terribly well constructed building, and he almost smashed through the hut.  The wall barely held.  And no one had shot a single bullet at him on his way over.  He motioned to his comrades to follow him, and they crossed the open ground quickly.
Xien, the commander of the squad, motioned for them to follow and walked cautiously down the street.  Their orders were to open fire on anyone carrying a gun.  Given the level of power the Pirate Lords exerted over the local population, the odds that someone who opposed them would be alive were ludicrously slim, the odds that they were alive and in possession of a gun in the middle of this town even slimmer.  Suddenly a burst of machine gun fire erupted from a nearby hut and Xien dropped to the ground, his squad a split-second behind him.  The eight of them raised their AK-47s and filled the machine gunner with lead before he could kill any of them, but now more pirates were shooting at them from where they were trapped in their homes.  The Cantrian paratroopers dove for cover.  One of their number was killed.  The Cantrians returned fire.  The firefight barely lasted ten minutes.  After about five minutes, one of the pirates panicked and made a break for another street, perhaps hoping to go around the Cantrians and make it to the jungle.  The Cantrians waited until he had made it about halfway down the street before opening fire on him. By waiting, they'd gauranteed that half the pirates they'd been shooting at followed his lead, exposing themselves to their murderous hail of lead.
Another squad of paratroopers appeared at the opposite ends of the street.  "Kuandu, check the area." Xien ordered.  Kuandu nodded and got on top of one of the huts cautiously, looking for enemies.  Because the village was built on a gentle slope which eventually bled into the sea, Kuandu could see almost the entire village.  The marines had landed already, and the corvettes were now pounding the middle of the village between the paratroopers and the marines.  The villagers fled the targeted areas straight into the waiting paratrooper squads, who either apprehended or slaughtered them depending on whether or not they were stupid enough to start shooting.  Kuandu noticed that nearly half of them were armed with some kind of gun or other, though most of them wisely abandoned them and surrendered to the Cantrian soldiers.  In spite of the well-armed village, the pirates' coastal defenses were practically non-existent.  They didn't appear to even have RPGs, their boats were largely unmanned when the Cantrians attacked...it was as if their only strategy for defense was to hope they were never targeted by an enemy capable of fielding an actual navy.
Kuandu came down from his perch and informed the squad that the village had already been effectively seized.  The corvette bombardment had ceased.  Xien reported in his squads status; one man down and the area totally secured.  Kuandu had left the military base afraid that after surviving the last two years of the Cantr Wars he would suddenly be killed in this police action, but judging by the fight these pirates had put up it wouldn't be anything like the horror stories of fighting the Paladins in Adrian he'd heard.  This might turn out to be easy...
Kuandu walked down the street, looking at the structures involved in the firefight.  Most were wooden, and not built up to any kind of code, and thus they were on the verge of collapse after surviving the firefight.  Those that did survive the firefight.  Kuandu noticed that one of the dead pirates' upper body was sticking out of the rubble of one of the collapsed structures and staring lifelessly out with a face that displayed nothing but total fear.  The kid couldn't be older than seventeen, but his lifeless hand clutched a sub-machine gun.

From the memories of a pirate.
For many years, yes even decades the pirates of the twin islands had been the scourge of the seas around Cantr.
After the first few years of the civil war the gouvernment in Drella had cut itself off from the mainland.
They wanted nothing to do with the fighting.
After some more years when it became obvious that the wars on the mainland would rage on with seemingly no end a lot of people left the mainland.
To escape from the fighting they headed out in small boats to the only place they could make it. The independent islands.
Soon they swamped the area and made the population of Drella swell to several millions.
Too feed the starving masses the citys Gouvernour had no choice but to revert to piracy to steal food and prevent a civil war in his own yard.
Crime was kept in check by, well actually thugs that were given the chance to either rot in prison or join the force.
Over time the pirates started not only to steal food but also other things like fuel, spare parts, money  you name it.

HOOH kid whats up. Am I boring you. This a true story so ye better listen.

Well were was I, a yes. Another beer please.

Well one thing came to another and the pirates felt that they could get away with everything.
Damn right they were. The Gouvernour and his family as well as his aids had become rich and fat with the loot. They had control of all the gangs and groups and such.
It was the fat years, the good years.
But then after 11 years of civil war came peace.
And that was when the damn thing fell apart.

Kwang walked down the street. He had his pistol in hand and was cursing.
„Damn, damn fucks.“ he yelled against the ear shattering sound of gunfire and explosions.
„What a live. Women, alcohol, drugs as much as you wanted. Whatever you like you just take it.
And now they come and mess with this great live“ he thought.
He would kill them. Just like that fucked fisherman who wouldn't give him the gold he had brought up from the seafloor.
Turned out the sap was right. He really had no gold. But what the fuck. Things sometimes get messed up when you are high.
Idiot fisherman was dead so what.
Kwang turned a corner and saw a black figure in front of him.
He instinctively raised his pistol.
Suddenly he had the feeling of someone hitting him with a billiard cue. He felt like someone had stuck several hot knifes inside his body.
His knees gave out against his will and he fired of a couple of shots into the air.
As he went down he sagged to the left smashing against the wall
„What the f..“ he began but ended in a gurgling sound.
Something warm and tasting like copper filled his mouth.
The damn bloody bastard had shot him.
His body turned cold, „Soo..coold..“ he thought.
The soldier called back to his comrades „Got one, let's check if there are any more were that one came from“

These pirates are slow learners, Seth thought to himself as he received yet another status report of a pirate town overrun.  Half the islands coastal defenses had been overrun.  Nightfall had come, and Seth was rapidly tightening his noose.  Many of the towns' harbors were all but empty, the pirates having fled.  Seth paid no heed to them.  If they found another port of call, it would not be Cantrs problem.  If they didn't, they wouldn't be Cantrs problem either.
The only threat Seth faced was if the pirates decided to fight a guerrilla war, but judging from the way they were running with their tail between their legs, Seth didn't count that as much of a possibility.  If he could capture both islands before their inhabitants decided to fight back, Daichi would have them adoring him within a month.  He always did.  Seth didn't know what it was about him, if it was his looks, or the way he put together his speeches, or the fact that he'd ended the wars, or if it was just an invisible divine aura that surrounded him, but Daichi was loved by most if not all of the Cantrian people.
Whether or not this would apply to the people on the Pirate Isles was unknown to Seth, but it wasn't his job anyway.  His job was to take military control, and it was a job he was going to do with perfection.

"Move it! i want all Trucks taken, and boats filled with pipe bombs. you boys saw what they did to the other islands, now move!"

Pirates were running about, making barricades, and storing up ammo. A few of the lucky ones had RPG-7's, and they went onto boats to attack them. The fishing ships were taken, and the crews were told to throw pipe bombs at the large ships. Some of the locals were pressed into the defense, and were running about with shotguns and rifles.

"Hey, Boss"

'WHAT?!"

"alright, what if i take some boys over to the other island, and help them there"

"No, i wont lose any men'

"But theres some mighty fine looting possbtiles if plans dont work"

"....Alright, take 20 men, and a boat. Oh, and one more thing, dont fuck up."

'Got it boss"

Jacen zooms onto the night background with his camera scope. Against the black sky, muzzle fire and rocket flares erupt out in erratic flashes. Jacen takes a snapshot of the scene by pressing a button on the side of the ultra zoom optical scope. He zooms in more and takes a snap of several boats along the harbor.

"You done yet?" asks a bored Iro. "DI wants some decent snapshot snapshots, not a whole holiday album..."
"There's a lot of fireworks happening right now...place is going to hell." He whispers out. His partner shakes his head in disdain.
"Hard to believe these guys live right door to us," Iro replies.
"That's for sure. I thin that's enough shots, you want a look?"
"No need. I seen enough of these hooligans and convicts. Let's move out before some Cantr boats spots us."

Iro starts up the super silent motor in their inflatable craft, which makes a momentary gurgle as the water jet takes in water. Jacen packs up the super zoom optic scope, putting it back in it's polymer casing. Iro eases on the throttle, the motor craft shoots silently across the choppy black waters of  Marauder Sea.

"Hand me the radio would you?"
Iro takes out the VF radio from behind him and throws it to Jacen.

"Wave Catcher One, this is Wave Rider Three, radioing in for pickup at Point Ace..."
"...Water Fox..."
"...Fox Water Nine Zero..."
"...East Angel..."
"...Yellow Bus..."
"Law in order. We'll wait for you at Point Ace..."
"Affirmative, Wave Catcher out."

Jacen throws the radio back to Iro. "I'm getting sick of the code talking, aren't you?"

"Part of the job partner, LAW isn't a jogging club. One bad move and we're dead..."

"...and a good move will get us home and a nice paycheck at the end of the week."

"You got it partner..." Iro blankly agrees.

Jacen lets out a sigh. Five years in LAW, and he still couldn't decide if his job felt right. He joined the Army on the persuasion of his father. Those several years as a private was the time of his life, and he loved the comradeship and rigors of military life. It was the killing part that didn't sit well with him. While he never did kill anyone, it was only time before he had to take lives in a future war. When a offer to LAW came up, along with a $88,000 salary and pension benefits, he took the job and applied for Covert Reconnaissance Division. There was a smaller chance of having to put a bullet in someone's head when your main job was to remain hidden and unknown.

Still, he was require to carry a gun, and kill anyone that compromise d his mission...anyone...even if it was a innocent little girl that happen to stumble on his hiding spot on the way to granny's house. Covert Recon might require less trigger pulling, but the margin for error were raised....

Yanko walked down the street.
“Move the trucks to the road and bring up that Dozer” he yelled to a group of men.
The sun started to rise above the island and the sound of gunfire and explosions drew closer.
They had been informed by phone about the attacks, but only after almost all of the coastal towns were overrun.
“But not this one” he thought.
“They will have hell to pay here. We will show them what it means to go up against the “Scorpions”” He yelled to his men.
The road that came in from the coast lead straight trough the town and there was jungle all around. They had filled two fuel trucks with a mixture of water and sand.
Now they put them in position on the road and used an old creaky dozer to topple them over.
They would function as barricades and would not be easy to remove.
His men had taken axes and chopped down some trees around the town to close any gaps.
The outer buildings were made out of wood so some of the slaves were ordered to nail additional planks to them and wardrobes were put along the walls filled with firewood and sandbags as bullet catchers.
Tables, chairs everything went to fortification. Even the wood and corrugated sheet from their slave sheds were torn apart and used to fortify the positions.
Machineguns were put up behind the barricades.
Men with hunting rifles and shotguns took position behind furniture, sandbags and plastic backs filled with dirt and rubble on the upper floors
Amongst all the hussle the sound of the fight closed in on the small town.
Yanko pulled a small metal box out of his pocket.
It contained a white powder.
He put it on the back of his hand and snuffed it in.
The cocain kicked in and gave him a feeling of  great euphoria.
He was sure they would beat those bastards from the Cantr mainland.
Just let them come.

Kuandu had been riding along the ill kept road in the squads Plasan Sand Cat for hours.  Drella lay just a few more hours away.  They were told to expect a fierce fight as, intelligence reported, more than half of the Pirate Lords running the southern island were currently living in Drella.  From all around the captured coasts of the southern island were coming thousands upon thousands of soldiers, some involved in the initial attacks, most not.  The towns were left with token garrisons, as the pirates were expected to place all their efforts into protecting the Pirate Lords, none of whom lived in the backwater port towns of the southern island.
The first wave of attackers would hit in around an hour, followed by wave after wave of fully equipped, trained soldiers, up against some desperate pirates.  Cantr would have advantage of numbers, superior equipment, more experience, better training and, because of all this, better morale.  The pirates would no doubt be ill-disciplined and many of them would likely be scared out of their wits.  The Cantrians couldn't lose.

Meanwhile, in a small port town on the northern end of the island, five corvettes appeared in the harbor as C-2 planes loaded with paratroopers prepared to drop their cargo in the jungle just outside the town.  With the fall of this town, Seth's noose around Drella would be complete.  The pirates would have no way of escape.  According to the Art of War, this would create Deadly Ground in Drella, forcing the pirates to fight tooth and nail with everything they had to save their own lives, nullifying the advantages in morale and veterancy the Cantrian army had over the pirates.  But Seth had a trump card, that would double those advantages instead of removing them.
Seth looked at the run down collection of huts and shacks on the shore.  The docks weren't fit to unload anything heavier than drugs, as usual, which meant the village would be unable to support a major military operations.  It didn't matter.  Although Seth intended to seize the island via overwhelming force, there was no need to be overkill.
The C-2s began dropping their paratroopers.  That was the signal.  The corvettes opened fire on the village.  The battle had begun.  No, Seth thought, This isn't a battle.  The pirates stand no chance.  This is just a police raid.

From now on, the southern Pirate Isle is being blockaded.  Every other port town has a corvette floating in its harbor, and those which do not can get the nearest two in their harbor in about ten minutes. They all have garrisons ranging from one platoon (forty men) to a battalion (two hundred men).  Each soldier is equipped with an AK-47, 5 M67 frag grenades, an M42 biological/chemical mask, Interceptor body armor, and, in the case of the paratroopers, a T-10 parachute.  Each squad of eight men has one sniper with an SVD, one gunner with an M2HB machine gun, and one demolitionist with a pair of C4 explosives and an RPG-27.  The Sergeant and Corporal are each equipped with a Beretta sidearm.  Each squad also has a Plasan Sand Cat.

And if anyone is wondering, I had to strain my nations military budget to the breaking point for the past week or so (real time) to get all this equipment together, and half my legions still aren't fully equipped (though obviously all the ones involved in the Pirate Wars are).

"Hey what th.."

The pirate went down. Everybody began running around, looking for cover. They fired at almost anything that moved, and every shadow. Yet, they still fought.

"Eat this, fucker!"

A pirate threw a pipe bomb into a squad, killing almost all of them. The man who was left looked around. He didnt look for long, before a round killed him.

"Come on, show these fucktards whats its like to mess with the Black Water boys!"

Machine gun fire then began pouring out of the windows into the paratroopers. The few RPG held there fire, in case of bigger threats. The pirates would heave pipe bombs, and, if that didn't work, they would just throw a Molotov and let them burn to death. But, the paratroopers manged to enter the outskrits of town. At least, before they were bunred to death by a trail of gasloine left behind.

"Ha ha! look! Thoese fuckers are heading back!"

"Thats shows them right!"

The pirates cheered, but they knew they will come back. they knew.

The paratroopers dropped in a mile behind the village, actually.  Yes, I know I didn't write that, but I never did say where the paratroopers were landing...and the point was to get them behind your lines, not on top of them.  I haven't sent in marines.  I'm pounding you with cannons from my corvettes, starting at the shore and moving up (making sure not to hit the paratroopers coming in from behind).  And I've got hundreds upon hundreds of marines ready for when I do send them in, so I doubt one pipe bomb would send them scurrying for cover.

OOC: Okay, fair enough, but you've still ignored the fact that your pirates will have seen a solid five minutes at least of off-shore cannon fire before any enemy troops arrive.  And your boats will be the first things to go.

Eko stared out into the dark sky, watching as the village burned in a hazy glow of flames. The smell of burnt wood and roof tiles drifted into his nostril, a smell that he mostly saw in the raids of the free towns. But never in Drella...

"Captain, what do we do!" screams out a panic crewman. "Our cocaine stash is in that village, how will we get it?"
"Nothing, we can do nothing against the new Navy!" he replied. "All we can do is run and hope to fight another day."

Eko walked to the bow of his 25 meter former crab boat, the Exile. On each side of the dirty wooden deck was a pair of 60mm swivel guns. Eko ordered a couple of men to load one of them as he passed. "Get this one armed right away, if the Cunters come, we'll need to fight for our lives."

At the bow of the ship, inside the small cramped cockpit, he started up the engine, check a map chart taped to the frontal glass. With the villages being taken by the Navy, the only place to go was Ambergris Cove, a small sea inlet with a hidden cavern where the old buccaneers use to hideout in.  Even today, it was a secret refuge for most of the area's experienced pirates to keep their money and valuables in. The respected Old Keeper watched over the place, keeping it well stock with donated supplies and equipment to repair ships. It was probably the only stable element of order in their world, meager and archaic as it seems by Eko's standards.

Eko's first mate, Valian, entered the cockpit with a AK-47 slung onto his right shoulder.
"Where are we going?" he asked impatiently.
"To Ambergris, getting out of here before those corvettes we heard about sees us. The draft of the cove should keep them out of our way until we can formulate a plan against these Cunters."
"Formulate? With who? You expect the gangs to bind together for this crisis? If they can get over their problem with each other!"
Eko gave a annoyed look. "I know I haven't been in the business for long, but I know from experience that ruffians will join together once something bugs them enough. The only chance we got against the mainlanders is to unify."
Valian gave out a sigh. "UNIFY? What civy bullshit! We should just leave for the Continent, we be out of the Navy's reach and free to continue our business! Why do you worry about the others so much? They are self-center people like me and you, there is no such thing as a "Pirate Nation" Eko. Get that through your head, and throw away all that bullshit you got from home."

Valian exited the cockpit without a word, leaving Eko alone and grieving again about home...his former home. He hated when people reminded him of his past. But Valian was right, he couldn't put his past away...he couldn't let go of Loyan. Deep inside of him, he wanted the Islands to be like Loyan, with government, honest working men, and roads. But that was impossible, he can't just take this place and turn it to Loyan. And Loyan...that was a place he could never return to...better to heed with Valian's suggestion and bury his past. He was a pirate now, a man without deed or loyalties, a criminal who stole and pillaged.

"Accept it..." Eko whispered into the air. He pushed the throttle, accelerating the Exile to a decent speed against the wind. Above them, sky began swelling with storm clouds. Rain and gale, that will be a blessing for a change...

Kuandu rushed forward into the fray, diving for cover.  The chaos had already begun by the time he'd gotten there.  He was a part of the second wave.  The first had swarmed into the city and surrounded all exits in just a little more than an hour.  They had been stopped short by the barricades.  The second wave hit just minutes after Seth made his offer; total amnesty for any pirate willing to join the ranks of the Cantrian army.  Five minutes after the initial offer, which the pirates had ignored most likely because they'd be shot in the back on their way over, the second wave arrived and continued the attack.  Now they were working on finding or making ways around the barricades, crashing through the flimsy slums to make new alleyways around them.  This was where the real war was.  In these tight quarters, Kuandu could lob a grenade and could guarantee that at least four people would be killed.  The only problem was that the Cantrians and the pirates were so close together it was impossible to hit one side without hitting the other.
Kuandu fired his assault rifle relentlessly into a pirate attempting to run for cover, lobbed a grenade over the heads of the pirates, hoping another squad of Cantrians didn't end up getting hit, and ducked back behind the rubble he had been using for cover.  A grenade from the pirates landed three feet from him.  He ran from his cover and hit the ground as the grenade went off.  Bullets flew over his head.  He had no cover!  He crawled behind a collapsed slum and lay as flat as he could.  The slum barely shielded him while he was lying on his back.  He either had to remain prone or else risk being shot while trying to find more cover...He chose to remain prone, and lobbed another grenade towards the pirates, hoping that they could push them back and then he'd be able to find real cover.  This was a war, now.  No more shocked, scared, and surprised pirates being decimated in advance by off-shore bombardment.  I'd better not die in this war after surviving the last one. Kuandu thought.

(OOC: Barakarin, do you plan on posting a legitimate response to my attack?  Your last one ignored completely the fact that I've been shooting at you from offshore for a while prior to beginning the actual attack.)

"Captain, we're hitting low shoals! Four meters to the seabed and rising!" yelled out a crewman as he heaved the heavy lead sounder out from the water. The ship had slowed to two knots as they neared their destination. On their starboard, the cliffs of Ambergris Cove can be seen in the distance, storm wash splashing onto their red rock face.

A big wave hits the side of the ship and everyone on board loses their step as the Exile rocked violently. "Sea's getting pretty rough Captain!" a crewman yelled out. "It's not safe to navigate through the cove in this storm! We'll strike a shoal and sink!"

"I appreciate your advisory Jackson, but we'll die at the hands of this storm if we don't find shelter!" Eko screamed back. As the wind began to pick up in speed and ferocity, it became difficult to hear. Soon, the rain began to pour in plum size droplets. "Everyone below deck. now!" yelled out Valian.

While the crew hurried through the hatch to the bottom deck, Eko struggled to get back to his cockpit to steer the boat. The waves came increasingly violent, splashing sea foam and wash against the glass of the cockpit. Eko took control of the steering wheel and pushed the throttle. He scanned the map chart on the glass, attempting to get his bearings. The Exile rolled in every direction as the wind and waves thrash against it. Sea sickness soon took Eko.

Keep it together...23 degrees....3 meter draught here in...dammit! Where am I?"

Visibility was completely erased by the hail of rain and waves. There was little light with the sun blocked out by the storm, all Eko could see was a murky horizon and a haze of darkness through the wet glass. He might as well be half blind, getting into the cove was hard enough for him without a storm rocking him and his boat like a baby rattle. A sense of utter panic took Eko.

"Pull yourself together...it's just like driving the old car...nothing to it but steering and throttle...yeah..."

He will have to go through with by pure instinct, instinct he wasn't sure he had. He rotated the wheel at random, hoping to visualize the shoals as he comes across them. The boat made progress, and the waves began to lessen the further he got within the cove inlet. Eko held his breath as the Exile passed within the wind barrier of the cliffs. The wind began to die slowly, but the boat continue to tumble in the waves.

The Exile zig-zag two hundred meters into the cove, and Eko eased on the steering. He searched for landmarks. He sighted a familiar tower of rock sticking out from the water; Ambergris Tower. Eko checked his chart against the bearing of the Ambergris Tower.

"Tower...shoals...got it!....Two meter draught...two point five...three meters is...here!"

To get into the cave, Eko will have to snake through several narrow areas of deeper shoals. It was a twisting maze that called for no mistakes and a single meter off can result in a puncture hull...Perhaps the weather wasn't such a blessing after all.

"Slight left...a little right...hard left!....nice and easy through here...left! left!....ease on the throttle..."

A huge freak wave came up from portside, rocketing the boat to its right and towards a shallow layer of shoals. Eko leans hard on the steering wheel to compensate...but it was too late. The sound of steel grinding against rock resonated through the boat, follow by a low metallic pop.

"FUCK!" he screamed out. Eko turns the wheel with all his might, barely saving his boat from getting stuck onto the shoal. From below him, screams of his crew could be heard. He realized right away that the hit with the shoal had ripped a leak. No doubt they were taking water...

Suddenly, a white light sparked out form the darkness of the rain. It held still despite the turbulent wind outside, which meant only one thing. It was coming from the cave! With new rigour, Eko continued to guide his sinking boat through the passage.

"Just a little more....a little more...easy...easy...."

The beam of a floodlight shot through the glass, blinding Eko for a moment. Within a few minutes, the Exile drifted into the large cavern of Ambergris Cove. On the catwalks of the cavern walls, men scurried about. Eko heard the sound of grappling hooks hitting his deck. He walks outside to see himself being surrounded by dirty looking men. The smell of tobacco and rum stained the air. A familiar voice spoke out from the crowd, calling for Eko.

"Eko! you crazy Bastard!"
"Wayne? Am I glad to see you..."

The fire was growing louder and louder. More and More pirates were getting killed, and they were being pushed back. The few RPG-7s that had ammo left begin to set up near a old car, ready to attack the outsiders. Well, at least try. The Pirates Ak-47's were firing wildly, just trying to stop the Incoming soldiers. Some pirates were lucky, and found a good shooting postion. Others, they were being cut down. the drugs were starting to fail them. They began to run as fast as they could to the better defended area. As when they were fighting, they were getting cut down. There was ntohing they could do for the sying expect give them some weed, and leave them. Some of the Underbosses tried to get there men to stay and fight, but, it wouldnt work. They ran, hoping, they would be safe from the bullets. But, they werent. Yet.

Seth had put up his headquarters in one of the inland villages that had been rapidly occupied on the way to Drella.  Several miles inland, the village was tiny, maybe twenty buildings.  Fortunately, it hadn't been occupied by any militants.  As planned, the second wave had arrived and, through strength of numbers, superior tactics and training, and a massive advantage in equipment, begun slowly claiming ground in the massive slums of the city.  And in a few days, when the artillery shells and missiles from A-10s started raining down on them, the pirates would surely reconsider his offer.  Given a choice between the army and death, who would choose death?

Kuandu turned the barrel of the heavy machine gun towards the oncoming pirates and opened fire.  He didn't know how so many of them had gotten together in one spot, but he guessed it was some kind of regrouping checkpoint.  Moments after he unleashed his hail of bullets, a rocket-propelled grenade shrieked out from the other side of the street, crashing into the midst of the pirates.  The pirates fled from the fire of the M60, diving for cover behind the barricade which, ten seconds ago, they had abandoned in favor of their bold but idiotic charge.  Kuandu followed them back to their hiding spots, killing as many as he could.  Another RPG flew into a slum building with a solid half-dozen pirates hiding in it.  The building went up in flames, as did the pirates.  Several of them fled into the street, some burning, some not.  Kuandu began shooting down the ones not on fire.

All the living pirates were now behind the barricade.  Xien appeared at Kuandus side as he began taking more careful shots at the pirates who were sticking heads and limbs out of their hiding spots to return fire.  "Kuandu, we're leaving!" he shouted over the din of the machine gun, the assault rifles, and the grenades.

"We can't let the pirates take this alley!"  Kuandu shouted back.

"Two squads of marines just got here and entrenched themselves!  They'll hold the street, we're going to find a way around that barricade!"  Kuandu nodded, then beckoned for Daoxin, about five feet in front of him.  Daoxin ran back to where Kuandu was hiding.

"It's time to go!" Kuandu said.  Kuandu picked up the gun and slung it over his shoulder next to his AK-47.  The two of them began a careful retreat down the street, constantly running between one point of cover and the next to avoid the constant hail of bullets and the pirates' RPG-7s until, about two minutes later, they were a hundred feet down the street with the rest of their squad.  "Where's Mei and Hanshu?" Kuandu asked.

"They were taken out by an RPG on the way here." Sakura responded.  She was one of the few women in the Cantrian army.  Unlike men, women were not required to serve a year in the army, and generally there were not very many volunteers among them.  Sakura was an exception.

"Where's the alternate route going to be?" Yuan asked.  He was the second in command of the squad.

"Down that alley," Xien responded, "And through two or three slum buildings.  We should come out about twenty feet behind the barricades.  Let's go!"  The squad headed down the alley.  They and another squad of paratroopers had cleared it a half-hour ago, only to find it was a deadend.  Perhaps the fight for it wasn't in vain after all.  The squad rushed down the alley and began crashing through the slums.  They'd bash down a wall, take cover, check the other side for pirates through all the chinks in the shoddily built structures, and then, finding it clear, they'd crash through the wall again.  Then, with just one wall between them and clear space, they heard voices on the other said.

"What was that?"

"Just one of these godforsaken slums falling in on itself, what'd you expect from a warzone?"

"No, there's someone in there, I know it!"  The squad found cover.  A burst of AK-47 fire filled the slum.

"There, you happy?  Whatever was in there, they're dead now.  Can we kill the real Imperials now?"  Xien gave a signal.  As one, the six remaining members of the squad layed into the enemy with their AK-47s.  It's a pity, Kuandu thought, With the wall of the slum in the way, we can't see the looks on their faces.  The slum wall collapsed; the pirates who hadn't been shot had already found cover.  There weren't very many, and they were all in the bar.  Now that Kuandu could see outside the slums, he could see that they'd made a couldesac around a bar.  To the left of the squad was the barricade they'd been going around.  The squad moved ahead, while Kuandu and Daoxin stayed behind, Kuandu setting up the machine gun while Daoxin pulled the remains of the slums together to make some cover.  The squad found some cover behind some small barricades the dead pirates had been hiding behind.  The barricades were facing the street.  Apparently, the pirates hadn't been expecting an attack from the slums.

Kuandu opened fire on the bar.  The windows shattered, splaying glass out on the floor inside.  The walls were thin, and the bullets from the machine gun ripped through them like cardboard.  The pirates tipped over tables inside and, using them as cover, returned fire.  Sakura began sniping out the pirates from the cover of her barricade.  The pirates hurled a molotov cocktail through the window and consumed one of the barricades in fire.  Yentei, the medic, ran from it screaming and was quickly gunned down by the vengeful pirates.  Kuandu continued spraying them with his machine gun, moving it back and forth.  Stray bullets struck bottles of vodka at the bar behind the pirates, creating a tiny fireball which immediately burned out, sometimes leaving the glass remnants of the bottle burning.  The bar seemed unusually heavily fortified...and the number of pirates behind it seemed to be growing.  But Kuandu could tell there wasn't enough room for a back door.  Where were the pirates coming from?

The few pirates still alive in front of the bar moved behind it, and Xien, Yuan, and Sakura moved into the building, taking cover behind the tables that, moments before, had been sheltering the pirates.  Kuandu grabbed the machine gun and rushed forward with it, Daoxin right behind him.  Kuandu set up the machine gun behind one of the barricades while Daoxin rushed ahead to join his comrades.  Xien tossed a grenade inside the bar.  The pirates rushed out, straight into Kuandu's machine gun.  The pirates were scattered all either killed or wounded.  The squad rushed behind the bar and began firing downward.  The pirates had been coming up through a trapdoor!

Kuandu checked his left, in the direction of the street.  The pirates at the barricade about five hundred feet from him were mostly dead or wounded, and apparently hadn't noticed the battle in the bar.  He started pouring bullets into them.  It took them a few seconds to figure out where the enemy fire was coming from, but one of them located Kuandu and pointed.  Fortunately, the barricade Kuandu was hiding behind had been placed specifically to protect against an attack from the direction of the barricade.  Unfortunately, it wasn't capable of protecting him from rocket propelled grenades, one of which passed barely a foot over his head as he ducked behind the barricade.  Kuandu poked his eyes back above the barricade and shot down the pirate holding the RPG before he could fire again.  Kuandu grabbed his machine gun and sprinted into the building.  He set up the machine gun again in the window of the bar, and began firing into the pirates.  They found cover and returned fire, but didn't charge him.  Behind them Kuandu could see the marines making an attack in the rear, a good deal more than the two squads they'd originally left there.

Suddenly, Kuandu's back was hit by a wave of heat.  One of the pirates in the tunnel below the bar had tossed a match up.  In the crossfire, the bar floor had been covered with vodka from shattered bottles.  The fire only lasted a split second, but it covered the entire area behind the bar.  The squad leaped out from behind it, using their arms to protect their faces from the intense heat.  Daoxins uniform caught on fire, and he dropped to the ground and began rolling to put it out.  Fortunately, the bar was between him and the pirates, otherwords he would've been filled with holes.

Sakura and Yuan both tossed grenades towards the bar.

The marines had overtaken the barricade.  The pirates had laid down their weapons.  Kuandu rushed over to the bar.  The pirates weren't shooting anymore.  Daoxin didn't look like he was burned, just his uniform.  The five of them hopped over the bar and stared down into the pit.  There appeared to be some lights down there, but a few gun shots were heard from the depths of the tunnel and they went off.  The pit looked even less inviting now that it was a seemingly black abyss.  "Okay," Xien asked, "Any volunteers?"  No one stepped forward.  "Alright then.  Kuandu, you go first."  I get the feeling Xien doesn't like me. Kuandu thought just before he jumped in.

Eko sipped on the rusty mug of coffee. He flinched a bit from the heavy taste. He was use to drinking fine tea, not this shit water of foreigners. He turned to a hole in the cave room. Looking down, he saw workers of Ambergris welding in the hole in the Exile.

"She'll be finish by the hour," remarked Wayne." That was a big leak you cracked, Ten more minutes and you would had hit the shoal and gotten stuck. Won't that been a pretty story?"

"Thanks for the refit, I'll make it up to you with my next catch. You still take lobsters right?"

Wayne chuckled heartily. "Don't think your gonna make much of a catch these days in these waters my old friend...Not with the Cantrian Navy in strength. I got word of the attacks by the government, looks like us pirates are in a pinch."

Wayne smartly grinned. Eko grinned back.

For the last five years of his exile, Wayne was the only person on a island of con-men and cutthroats that he could trust sincerely. Ever since they met and escaped together from the White Crab Gang, they became true friends in a business where trust and honesty were scarcer than gold and diamonds.

"Don't worry about the bill, the Old Keeper likes you, he's not gonna ask your to pay for some minor emergency repairs."

Eko grinned. "That's good to hear....so, does the Old Keeper have anything to say about this mess?"

"Nothing much. The Ambergris crew are gonna stay here for a few more weeks, wait for survivors to come pick up their deposits. Ambergris is a tight spot, should hold up to any Navy assault. Then, me and the Keeper are gonna head for the Odori Islands...maybe turn civy and open a store. Anything really, just need to get away from that blasted new Navy."

Eko frowned. "...Your not gonna stay and fight?"

"Fight? Fight for what, a island of shit hole towns and a few bar wenches? Hah!"

"But this..this is your home..."

"A ship is a pirate's home, not some worthless stretch of ground. This isn't Loyan my friend, it's a shit hole. We can find more shit holes elsewhere. What am I saying...your a land lubber...you won't understand the idea of a floating home."

"I guess I don't...." Eko dropped the mug on the table, and headed out the room. Wayne followed behind.

"So Wayne, you got anymore of those 60s?"
"What?"
"The small shells..."
"Oh those, you got to stop using Arm'y lingo."
"Sorry, habit. Do you have any?"
"We're out of the small ones, but I got twenty cases of RPGs."
"What kind?"
"How am I suppose to know! I wasn't in your army!"
"You're a pirate, you should know your weapons and munition..."
"Bloody fuck I should..."

The two skipped down the catwalk and stepped onto the dock, a flatten surface of rock overhang beside the water. Beside the dock was the Exile, it's hull sitting on a slope of wet sand and sludge where it was pulled up onto. Wayne walked up to a worker that was finishing up repair with his acetylene torch.

"Hows the repairs going John?"

"We're done..." John took off his shade googles and switched off the torch. "Took us hours looking for piece of scrap to fit the rip, but she'll mend nicely."

Eko nodded politely to John. "Thanks mate."

"No problem. Now if you excuse me, I got two more ships to repair. Both came in the initial attacks, hull fucking ripped in big holes and burnt marks."

"How big are the holes?"

"Uhh.....the size of your fist? Fucking nasty, heard an old chap got hit in the arms. Blew his whole lugger off."

"30mm explosive rounds...." Eko murmured.

"Where did the Navy get that? Ten months ago, they were still shooting us with pep neck rifles," blurted Wayne.

John answered, "Rumors be that the government is buying weapons from the mainlanders. Not just guns, big rockets too. Any pirate caught in a fight with the Navy will get a nasty thrashing, believe me. It's not like old times anymore..."

"No it isn't."

Morning broke, and the cave was bathed with the warm light of sunrise. Night watchmen came back in for rest and the morning shift rowed out into the cove in their cutters. From the distance, one could see countless dots of boats heading for the cave. No doubt, they were the lucky few that managed to escape the Navy. Above, the storm from last night had mostly clear, and it was gonna be clear day ahead.

After the first fire fight in the tunnels, which had lasted about two minutes before the pirates ran away, Kuandu and his squadmates didn't encounter any resistance.  Every few minutes they'd come across an exit to the surface.  They'd check for pirates and then, if they found some, they'd usually just chuck a grenade or two up there and then wait for them to come down into the sights of their AK-47s and the M60.  Sometimes they came down and were massacred.  Sometimes they were smart enough to stay up top.  They'd wait a few minutes after the last shot was fired and then they'd move on.  There weren't many pirates down in the tunnels, which surprised Kuandu.  Apparently they were all up top, either fighting the Cantrians or running from them.
After the first two or three hours in the tunnel, they heard the boom and felt the shake that meant the artillery had arrived, and started moving faster, hoping to get out of the are being bombarded before the tunnels collapsed.  Sometimes the tunnel collapsed behind them, blocking their exit, and sometimes it collapsed in front of them, forcing them to turn back and look for another route.  After another hour of navigating the labyrinth, they found a door at the end of a tunnel.  It looked like the entrance to a bunker of some kind.
Yuan stepped forward to open it.  Kuandu positioned the M60 to obliterate any hostiles inside.  The rest of the squad readied their AK-47s and found what cover they could in the barren tunnel.  Yuan had a grenade ready.
Yuan opened the door.  Kuandu opened fire.  Another machine gun turned its barrel from a door on the opposite side of the room and began firing back.  The squad opened fire, Yuan tossed his grenade in the direction of the machine gun nest, and then pulled out his AK-47, using the door as cover.  The guard was light and hadn't been expecting an attack from the tunnel.  The battle was over in a few minutes.
The squad stepped into the room.  It was a cellar, with stairs leading up to the surface.  Shelves of wine lined the walls and created corridors in the cellar.  Some pirates had heard the noise of the gun fight and were coming to investigate.  The squad took cover behind the wine shelves and got ready for another fight.  The pirates came in, just two at first, but after they were immediately gunned down, more came.  Before half the pirates had been able to enter the cellar, the building they were coming from was demolished by a bomb from one of the A-10s passing overhead.  A portion of the cellar collapsed.  The pirates were gunned down before they could recover from the shell shock.
Kuandu and his squad emerged in the remains of one of the manors that housed the wealthy Pirate Lords.  They were somewhere in the center of the city, then.  And the third wave had arrived, in force.  Drella wouldn't last long.

“Hell” he thought “This must be what hell is like!”
The man stumbled trough the street holding his left arm.
He could feel the hot wetness of blood, his blood.
As well as the pain that pulsed trough his body.
He was probably the only survivor from the main barricade.
Yanko, there leader was dead and so were probably all the others.
The soldiers had come round the road but it was only a small group. As soon as they came under fire from the barricade they fell back.
The pirates had cheered.
Yanko had yelled from behind the barricade “Run you cowards. See how easy it is to get rid of them  men? Bet they ain't going for another attack soon. Scorpions RULE”
It had been silent. They all were euphoric, the cocaine did it's job. That as the reason why no one wondered about the silence.
Until the silence was ripped apart by the sound of jet engines.
A huge, slow ungainly looking aircraft had come in. It was flying so low they could see the pilot inside.
The plane made a pass and then flew out disappearing behind the trees.
Then it returned.
What hind of gun was that?
It made the plane disappear in a cloud of smoke and ripped trough the barricade like it was paper. Shreds of metal were flying all around, people torn to pieces and two of the wooden building's disintegrated.
In all the havoc the soldiers attacked. There were lots of them now and they came from every direction. They laid down fire on the barricade from MG positions behind trees.
The bastards had called in an air-strike and while waiting for the plane to roll in they had prepared their positions.
Snipers picked off everyone not in cover and from somewhere a small mortar pumped round after round into their positions.
They had made their way into the city. The damn slaves were welcoming them.
Throwing themselves at the soldiers to greet them as their saviors.
Still the last attack had cost some of them their live.
The plane had not returned. But it had wracked havoc.
While he was stumbling trough the ruins he saw a young woman lying dead on the ground, still holding her child. The kid was silent. Dead probably.
Those damn Cantrs poured ammo into anything that moved.

C.L.S Supremacy Ship Log

Report 229

At 14:32 hours, we intercepted a unknown trawler vessel on request of Patrol Six and Naval Coastal Defense. Target was flying unknown colours, flag appears to be a white on black icon of a shark. Within visual contact of the target, we dispatch our Onboard Deck Aircraft, number 93 Sea Hind to make threat assessment and further contact. Crew was place in Level B alert during this time.

According to pilot report, within 100-150 metres, the target responded with a spray of automatic fire on Sea Hind 93. We responded with four warning shots to their stern with our General Purpose Guns. Target then attempted to escape, turn 35 degrees towards the west and putting on speed. Upon this, the Captain order pursuit and capture of the offender. We made head within ten minutes, cutting ahead of the target and crossing her at a T. Target then attempted a turn towards starboard to evade capture.

We maneuver once again ahead of the target, sending out several vocal and visual warnings to the personnel aboard. We received little in the way of a response, necessitating affirmative action. We once again crossed her at a T, lodging out several depth charges over board. The charges set off and one managed to contact the target.

A geyser of water was seen blowing up against the target's aft. Within a few minutes, the vessel began to slow. Further investigation reveal that the depth had created a leak, as intended, in the engine room. Our ship maneuvered against the target's starboard, where it's crew surrendered.

Marine search found 18 men on board. Small amounts of illicit drugs were also uncover. The detainees were transfer to Custom officials after docking in Beilee harbor.

Kuandu always thought that smoke grenades were more or less useless in a place like Drella.  After all, there was so much rubble and dust that no one could see three feet in front of their face anyway, especially at night.  But now Kuandu respected the smoke grenades more than his fragmentation grenades, which had run out an yesterday.  Why?  Because even though the smoke grenade couldn't do much on its own, it could, depending on the color, summon either an airstrike that would level an enemy position, like one of the many mansions in the area Kuandu was now fighting in, or else summon an artillery barrage that would drive the pirates away from an area for hours.  The current record was, in fact, a day and a half, from the first barrage called in a few hours after they emerged from the tunnels.  An entire city block was reduced to rubble and not single pirate had been seen in the vicinity since, which is why Xien, and most of the other squads that had joined them soon after the incident, had been using it as a base of operations.  But since then the squad had been very careful with the blue smoke grenades, because artillery was brutally indiscriminate.  Not only would helpless civilians be slaughtered in the barrage, but if you couldn't clear out fast enough, one of your own could be killed.  That's what had happened to Daoxin.

"Two nines." Yuan said, showing his pair of cards, one nine and one six, to Sakura and Kuandu.  The other nine had come from the three cards in the middle.  Sakura cursed.
"One ace." She said, throwing her pair down.  Her other card was a ten.
"Two kings." Kuandu said, throwing his pair down.  Both kings had come from his hand.  He smiled and took the heap of ten cantrs in the middle.  He was on a winning streak, and had won seventy cantrs off of Sakura and Yuan in the past half hour.  "Anyone want to play again?" Kuandu asked.
"No thanks," Sakura replied, "I think I've lost enough money to you for one day."  Yuan agreed.

As Sakura and Yuan got up to leave, Xien shouted "We're under attack!" from his post.  Immediately, the three of them grabbed their weapons and rushed to the makeshift barricades.  Another two squads were already there, holding back the pirates.  Kuandu ducked behind some of the rubble that made up the barricade and set up his M60 on top of it, then opened fire on the oncoming enemy.  Xien, next to him, chucked a grenade, probably his last, out towards the pirates.  It went off and nearby pirates scattered.

The pirates were sending the attack from a mostly shelled out manor nearby.  Kuandu guessed there was a tunnel underneath it.  It was one of the many manors that they had never fully explored.  Kuandu began pouring a stream of bullets into the manor, but there was plenty of cover to hide behind, whole rooms that his M60 couldn't reach, and since more of the manor was safe than was exposed, the tunnel entrance was probably out of his line of fire.

"Kuandu, put a red smoke in that manor!" Xien shouted over the flying bullets.
"Sir, I'm all out!" Kuandu lied.  He'd been sent on two of these suicide missions since coming to Drella.  He didn't want to go on anymore.
"Here," Xien said, handing him one of his own red smoke grenades.  "Go!" He shouted.  Kuandu peered over the barricade.  He'd have to run a stretch of twenty feet between the barricade and the first cover in the street beyond.  "Covering fire!" Xien shouted, and took over Kuandu's M60, firing into the pirates nearest the stretch of exposed ground.  Kuandu took in a deep breath, grabbed his AK-47, and leaped over the barricade, sprinting for the cover.

Bullets whizzed around him and above him, but miraculously he wasn't shot.  His squad did their job well; the only pirates shooting at him were far away.  Kuandu dived into the cover and crawled on his stomach towards the shelled out manor.  He pulled out the smoke grenade he had been given.  Red would call down an air strike.  Kuandu had reached the end of his cover.  The manor was still about ten feet out of his throwing range.  He'd have to clear out a pirate machine gun nest about fifteen feet away and get into it.  From there he'd be able to chuck the smoke grenade in easily.

Kuandu carefully raised his AK-47, trying to line it up perfectly with the heads of the two pirates in the nest.  For the first time since he'd gotten it, Kuandu wished he had a more accurate gun than the AK-47.  Kuandu said a silent prayer to whatever ancestor spirit may be listening and opened fire.  One of the pirates went down immediately.  The other, the one firing the MG, turned his head towards Kuandu.  His eyes widened at the sight of an enemy soldier so close and he started turning the MG towards him, but he was shot dead before he could bring it to bear on Kuandu.

Kuandu sprinted into the nest.  He was safe.  He chucked the grenade into the manor, where it began giving off smoke.  Apparently the pirates had figured out what smoke grenades meant, because most of them began running away.  As they did, Kuandu was able to make his way back to the barricade without being shot at much.  Three times, it seemed, he'd cheated death.  How much longer before his luck ran out?  And why did Xien seem so intent on getting him killed?

"Here they come"

"Everybody, get ready. Oh, and Vink"

"Yeah?"

"Dont be so hasty as to mow everything around you down, im still trying to get the bullet out of my arse"

"Sorry Boss"

The pirates got ready for another round. They found something out though. If you see red of blue smoke, you run as fast as you can. There is no stoping, until you are out of the bomb range.

"Ready...hold it....FIRE!"

The Pirates weapons went off, almost at the same time. The lead forces of the Cantrains(?)fell. Soon, the bullets were flying. 6 men soon were dead, while a 7th was wounded. It was really sad. The kid was yelling. A pirate gave him some weed, and he sorta just stoped. He began to smile, and his eyes closed. That just pissed everyne off. They hoped over the barrcides, the drugs doing the running for them, and just fell on the line. They had Knives and Axes. They just started to hack them up. But, they ran back to the barricdes when the smoke came out. This time, it wasnt a starfing run, something they could be protced agisnt. This time, it was artillery. The Bombs fell, and 3 men dided. But, at least thqat was all. But know, they knew where to stay. Right behind cover.

"Warmarshal?  I have the report." Captain Bundonik said.

"Good." Seth responded.  He took it from Bundonik.  Two days after the arrival of the artillery and the airstrikes, they had unloaded a brigade of T-90 tanks.  Now, with the ability to simply plow through slum buildings, they had circumvented the barricades completely.  Now the pirates had begun a mass exoduc from the city.  Many of them fled north, towards a small village which, rumor had it, had somehow managed to survive the constant Cantrian onslaughts.  Unfortunately, the rumors were true.  Although Seth had placed a series of ambushes along the route towards this village and laid down some mines along the route, the sheer number of fleeing pirates made it impossible to put a significant dent in their forces with artillery occupied in Drella and the village itself.

But what could Seth throw at this village to make it capitulate in the next twelve hours that he hadn't already?  If he couldn't make it capitulate by then then the fleeing pirate forces would be able to hole up there.  At least his Corvettes would prevent them from leaving the village.

Southern island

Carit had been on the run since the attacks began.
Hiding in the jungles he managed to stay out of the soldiers way as well as away from his pirate buddy's.
“Not a good idea to be part of a pirate gang these days.” he sought.
After a while he came to a town that had been abandoned. There were no soldiers yet.
He found a bar and settled in.
After his third bottle of whiskey to calm his nerves he decided to just sit here and wait for the soldiers to come by and shoot him.
He didn't give a damn. Maybe they would jusr arrest him.
He was tired of running and felt twice as old as he was.
He raised the bottle to an invisible person.
“Juss git id ower witsh damn Cuntians” he shouted and fell from the chair.
After a while he started to snore. Time went on.

Northern island.

Yamal had returned from his recon on the shore line. It wasn't to difficult to move trough the jungle as no Cantrian troops had landed of yet.
Now he was standing in an old mansions entrance hall that had turned into an improvised headquarters.
“The have put their ships here and here so this route is cut off.” he said pointing at the map.
“Probably have the entire place sourrounded. We should have made a run for it much sooner.” a bald man with a wild beared said.
“Only thing we can do now is to set up ambushes to at least  slow their advance.
Let them make their landing and have them run into troubles when they try and come up here. Also we should prepare a fall back point if they send in airstrikes.”
“Let them LAND unhindered” a man in a fantasy uniform said. “Damn I say we meet them at the beaches.”
“And get cut down by their warships? Not with my men you don't. If you want to kill youself David then feel free to do so.” the bald men said.
“We will mine the roads and set up minefields in the forrest at random positions if they try to circumvent the blocked roads.”
“You talking like we had an army here.” a man with a large jacket and wild hair and beard said with a heavy tongue.
“Me thinks you wanna play general and I say we should plan for an escape not a war.”
“If you wan't to leave Jack then do so. But mind the ships that have us sourrounded. Well maybe you can sneak past them?” the bald man said with agrin.
“So were do we get those “mines” from”
“Well” the bald man grinned “Time to teach you cutthroats something about war.

Quote
Sorry to everyone but i was a bit tired yesterday. Also three days away I had to read the thread again to get my bearings. I think the southern island is gone anyway. let's concentrate on the northern island and get this over with.
The bald guy is my only pirate lord and if he gets killed or decides to surrender that's it.
i will post on the ambushes I plan to make later. Pirates promise Aarrr

OOC: Whoo! The Pirates are back!

The Pirates moved sliently. They keep on checking there ammo, moltov cocktails, and there pipbombs. They were going to join some Pirate Lord that had set up shop nearby. The Capos(?) pushed on the tried ones, while the strong ones helped carry the wounded. They walked by night, slept by day, so the damn planes wouldn't see them. Some men light up weed, looking for some comfort. Others, left. Maybe to give up the fight, maybe to go find on. But,. when they finally found the pirate lord they were looking for, they were only 40 men, out of a 60 men group.

"Our...pirate lord sent us to help...you sir, are the first line of defense until his pirate kingdom."

*Southern End of the Nothern Isle, Barricdes*

"You know, why dont they just leave us alone?"

"What?"

"I mean, think about it.  We could make a deal saying we wont attack there ships, and move on to another prey."

"Thats just a idea. i don't think that will happen."

"Why?"

"What self government make a deal with a bunch of motley cutthroats, who only want money?"

"Well, i just saying.."

"Dont say anything! You know what there going to say! You know that there just going to talk, and talk, and talk, then say No! Then, there going to continue to bound us into submission. Unless outside help, like, some nation shows up, Were fucking Doomed!"

OOC: Dun dun duh...could outside help arrive? You never know!

“Welcome people to our little fortress.” the bald man said with a grin. A small group of 40 motley men had arrived at the town and now stood loosely grouped on the lawn in front of the mansion.
“You are lucky to have arrived today. We were just preparing some surprises. If you guys had come any later you might have been surprised too.”
“Oh and my names Iron Jack Flint but you can call me Captain Jack.”
“tought that was my name” a man in a colorful outfit walked down the stairs seemingly drunk.
“Why don't you go back to your rum Sparrow. That's the best place for you anyway.” The Captain said.
“Well you guys don't stand around, get your asses in gear and help the others.”

"Alright, sorry, sorry"

The Men were split up into 4 groups of 10. Each man knew what they were supposed to do. Rifle rounds with pins that shoot up the soldiers leg, pip bomb mines, RPG Rounds buried in case of a tank, or a unlucky soldier steps on it, and a special twist that they made, a treebracnh with a trip wire- when the tripwire was broken, the tree Branch, with grenades everywhere on it, would fling forward, and blow up in the face on a soldier. The traps were set by the afternoon, and they went back to the base.

"The stuff is set. Those Cantarins wont stand a chance"

"Good work men, good work. You deserve some rations." Iron Jack said, handing a pack of cigarettes and a bottle of beer to each man.
"We still have a lot of work to do before nightfall. As soon as it gets dark it's lights out so they don't zero our positions at night.
We have started to build some barricades from tree logs. Chest high, two lines deep with a meter space between the lines. Now we are going to fill them with dirt so grab a shovel if you can. Otherwise help the others with filling the sandbags."
He took a huff on his cigar and walked of to oversee the works.

The men drank the bottle of beer, thristy and tired. A few looked up at the sky, making sure planes didnt catch them in the open. They walked off, grabbed some axes, and chooped down some trees. Others bulit sandbag walls, and as he said, chesthigh. The soldiers smoked there cigarattes all the time, until night fall, when they found there way back to the mansion.  It was a star filled night. They had covered some holes that they dug to hide pirates to ambush the Cantar soldiers.

"Barricades made, by the way, we found some MGs by some dead Cantars that sepped on the Buller mines. Looks like there sending scouts."
