Title: The Marriage
Post by: Ryazania on January 19, 2007, 09:02:23 PM
OOC: This occurs roughly 1,000 years ago. To avoid confusion, I have named the kingdom Greyjoy rules other than Ryazania. This is because the Seven Kingdoms have yet to unite.

IC:

King Balor Greyjoy was standing in the Great Hall of the capital castle of the Iron Islands, Pyke. He was with his brothers, Theon and Aeron, both lords of the lands near the islands. His Majesty was waiting for his bride, a princess from the far-off kingdom of Myroria. He had been waiting for this moment since the age of 12.

His father had arranged this marriage when he once went sailed through the Trident and came to the open sea. While exploring, he found the kingdom of the Myrorians. He met their king, and asked the king if his daughter would marry his son. The Myrorian agreed when King Dunmar promised him lands and gold aplenty. The children were to wed on their 16th name day's.

The Royal Galleon carrying the Princess, a teenager named Claudia Augustus, her father, Claudius IV, and his entourage and harem approached an island off the coast of Ryazania. The ship had taken about a week to sail through the peninsula.

"Castilia, straight ahead!"

The Empeurer emerged from underdeck and took the spyglass from the navigator. He put it to his eye.

"That's their flag alright...Claudia? There you are. Get ready for your wedding. And you - navigator - keep a course on that island."

Davos Seaworth saw the Myrorian flag waving in the distance a few thousand hands away from the docks of Pyke. He had been preparing for the last week to welcome the Myrorian princess. Davos set up a large welcoming party for Her Grace and her escort. A cloth-of-gold carpet had been lain at the entrance of the docks to the dais in the Great Hall. It was posted throughout the town that anyone that would dirty it would be less their legs the next day, courtesy of the Kingsguard.

The gangplank was pushed off the ship by the crew and the Empeurer and Princess stepped down it.

"Quite the carpet, eh Claudia?"

"Yes father."

He reached the end of the carpet and the entrance to the Great Hall.

The High Septon (still pagans) stood behind King Balor and his bride, Princess Claudia Augustus. On his head was the giant crystal crown signifying his office as Holiest of Holies. Along the walls of the Great Sept of Pyke stood the great carvings of the gods: The Warrior, The Father, The Mother, The Maiden, The Smith, The Crone, and The Stranger. In the High Septon's hand he held the book of marriage, ready to begin the procession that would be the greatest marriage of the century.

(Except with you know, medieval armor.)

The Praetorian Guard was standing at the doorway of the temple, guarding against assassination attempts. The Empeurer and his wife were standing next to Claudia.

The High Septon proceeded with the ritual, both Balor and Claudia taking vows. The wedding was now a tremendous party, everyone drinkin fine wine and ale, pinching serving winches, and the making of more bastards than you can count on your hands. The bride recieved lavish gifts from all the King's lords and the lord's bannermen. The Empeurer himself recieved the island of Old Wyke and all of its income as a reqard for his daughter's hand.

In exchange for the islands, the Empeurer gave the King the island of Guurith to the east of the Myrorian homeland.

King Balor was talking to the Empeurer in his solar in the tower.

" Claudius, I have a favor to ask of you. "
" Yes, what is it? "
" I need at least twenty-thousand of your legionairres to help me conquer the other six kingdoms of Ryazania. "

"I'll give you the number you need...if we become one land under your son and my daughter's rule once you unite Ryazania."

" Fine, I agree. My eldest son shall become heir to the throne that encompasses the Empire. He will marry a Myrorian lady, as shall my lords, and so shall your lords marry our ladies. With this our nation becomes one. "

"Very well then. I will send the soldiers as soon as my ship returns to Myroria."

Empeurer Claudius approached Balor the next day.

"Pha's luck has been with me today. I have been informed that Legion XII and Legion XIII are both open to transport from Hispania to the south of here. The trip will be much shorter this way, and I can probably get them here in about ten days time. They both have about 10,000 men."

" Very well then. With your legions, I shall number around one hundred thousand men, more than the other kings combined. I thank you for your great gift. Knowing that these are your men, would you wish to command in the field with me? "

" Very well then. We shall sail upon the mainland on a fortnight. In the meantime, I shall have my master armorer craft you a new suit. I must say the Myrorian battle garb is not suited for the brutality of Ryazanian weapons. "

"Very well. I will send my messenger to Hispania to call upon the legions."

Fourteen days later

The Empeurer approached Balor.

"My legions are fed and ready for the sail to the mainland. Shall we leave now?"

The King had his battle garb on. He had gilded metal plate on his chest, arms, and legs. He had a great antlered helmet, a symbol of House Greyjoy. For a cloak, he had a cloth-of-gold cape fastened with stag brooches. In his hands was a greatsword taller than him, intricate runes shimmering on the steel blade of Old Valyria. He looked around at his father-in-law.

" Sail and conquer we shall. Adorn your battle garb and meet me upon Balor's Fury, my four hundred oar war galley. We shall then sail down the Trident and begin the slaughter. "

Empeurer Claudius Augustus' armor.

The Empeurer clothed himself in his armor: A black and gold cuirass, platelegs, pauldrons, and gauntlet, and a golden Galea with a black plume. Leading his Praetorian Guard to the ship, he and his bodyguards climbed aboard the Balor's Fury.
