Title: The Cree Civil War
Post by: Aquatoria on June 07, 2007, 08:21:23 PM
Ladies and gentlemen, the Chancellor of the Confederacy of the Cree Tribes, David Morena.

Ladies and gentlemen of the press, today is a day that will be remembered in sorrow in our country. 7:00 this morning, communist forces of the Red Liberation Front have occupied our capital. The Imperial Army and the Territorial Reserves have created a ring around the city, but unfortunately, other cities in the eastern regions have joined the Liberationists and have mounted an attack on the Imperial Army. His Serene Majesty Emperor Paul I and other members of the Grand Council have been moved to the city of Prince George. The Emperor has stated that he will temporarily hand power over to the Grand Council and he will take the rank of Field Marshal and lead the 1st Shock Army into battle. The Grand Council is asking for military aid from our allies. The Imperial Army is stretched thin. Thank and good day.

Slowly but surely, the machinery of the Gallipoli-Chinese State was grinding away.  The proposal to recognize and aid the Red Liberation Front in Canada had been introduced in the Assembly almost as soon as the news had been recieved; debate had been short, and uninteresting, and the vote shorter.  A resounding 83% majority for recognition, and a 58% for military aid.  Five days after recieving the news, the nation had decided.  Impressively quick, Erwin Vrotrith throught dispassionately.  Shame my brother couldn't have seen it, he added ironically, his fingernails digging painfully into his palm as he thought.

The Red movement, which had begun in three countries, begun weak, begun with no support internationally, had mushroomed.  There were over ten Red states, strong movements even in Holy Myroria, and an alliance dedicated to the spread of the virus.  Blood trickled down Erwin's palm now, but he didn't notice.  He waited by his computer, confident that the message from Defense would come.  Too trusting.  He continued his internal monologue with a smirk.  What moron had put him in charge of the Bureau of Foreign Insurrection?  Oh, right, the moron he would frame, the moron whose government he would help to bring down.

It would begin in Canada.  A simple enough mission.  Help out a strong Red movement.  What could go wrong?  A lot, as it turned out.  The message came.  Erwin smiled and deleted it.  On to Canada.

Emperor Paul I, now Field Marshal of the 1st Shock Army, sat at his desk looking at the paper that he had received. The Gallipoli-Chinese State recognized and was ready to aid the Red Liberation Front. He shook his head. He thought it would never come to this. A communist state fully recognized the enemy of the Cree Tribes. This will not go unpunished. The Emperor didn't want a war between the communists and the Gallipoli-Chinese State. What to do? To attack the Cree Tribes, the Gallipoli Chinese forces would have to cross an ocean. That's it! He picked up his phone "Admiral Donitz, please...Admiral, this is the Emperor. Put the High Seas Fleet out. Yes. If you see any ship bearing the flag of the Gallipoli-Chinese State, sink it....No I'm not kidding. Don't let them aid the communist insurgents in our country. If the Fleet fails this task, then we might lose this war. Yes, goodbye Admiral." He hung the phone up and looked at the map. The communists and the Imperial Army were at a stalemate. Now he disprutly needed allies. A land war against the Red Liberation Front and a sea war against the Gallipoli-Chinese State.

This is the current situation. The communists have 400,000 soldiers holding back the 300,000 strong Imperial Army. The Territorial Reserves areover two million strong, but there is a shortage of weapons so mobilization is going slow. The communists have a small air force numbering about 200 fighter-bombers and they are armed with Polish style Aks, RPGs, Leopard tanks, Hind helicopters and a powerful anti-air defense. The same equiptment as the Imperial Army. The Cree Tribes are located in western, central and northern canada. The capital is Winnipeg. The communists control the territory of Manittoba and half of Saschatewan. They are besieging the city of Saskatoon and the Imperial Army there is holding strong. It has reverted to trench warfare around the city.  http://www.fci-inc.ca/images/support/map.jpg

Why do you wish to back those who fund and aid terrorists and rebels. I will order the High Seas Fleet to not challenge the Gallipoli-Chinese State if you order them to stop funding the Red Liberation Front. If they dont stop then I will not stand for that and I will order hostilities to begin. If you decide to intervene, then I will have no choice then to order that your ships to be fired upon. This is not a threat, that is a promise. You must block Gallipoli-Chinese interference, or this will lead to a biigger war. And dont be a fool, military service is a mandatory action in my country. I can call in millions of men and have them armed. Dont be foolish, help me or face the coinciquences.

I swear no harm will come to them. I will not tolerate this though. The communists are besieging my army in Saskatoon. The best I can do is that. I will be sending a message to the leader of Gallipoli-China telling him to stand down, or i will impound any ship coming in. I do not want a war with you or your allies, but I will not allow a third party aid a insurgent group in my country.

Emperor, this is by no means a matter of "your country."  The country is not yours.  It was build by working people, and the working people have the right to take what they have made.  Matters concerning human rights, for example, the right to determine one's own system of government, are international issues, and fair game for any party.

The Gallipoli-Chinese people has indicated its will to aid the red liberation movement in your country, and I, a mere individual, am powerless to stop them.

Erwin Vrotrith

There, that sounds communist enough, thought Erwin to himself.  It's all there.  The glorification of the masses, the abadnonment of personal responsibility, the penchant to intervene in other people's business...  Doubtless he'd get penalized for sending this message, things like this would normally be left to Foreign Relations, but he couldn't resist.

He knew he'd be working mostly with airplanes for transport.  Doubtless the Canadian navy would be waiting for any ships trying to land troops, and the Gallipoli-Chinese navy was unsuited to blue-water combat.  The Reds wouldn't need ground forces; from what he'd heard, they had enough, and only air support was needed to turn the tide in their favor.  The problem with bombing, thought Erwin again, is that you can never be quite sure what you're hitting.

Failure at Saskatoon
The Cree Civil War Going Bad For The Emperor
The Imperial Army of the Cree Tribes has been swept away from the city of Saskatoon by the soldiers of the Red Liberation Front. The lose at Saskatoon has pushed the Imperial Army across the central plains to the industrial city of Kerak. Kerak is an important center of the Confederacy of the Cree Tribes. A majority of the nation's tanks, planes, and other military weapons are made there. Emperor Paul I had issued an order to all his citizens and soldiers. "At Kerak, we will make our stand. Not one step backward. We will turn every block, every street, and every house into an impregnable fortress. Rise up, peoples of the Confederacy." The Red Liberation Front is now moving towards the city of Kerak. In respnse, Emperor Paul I has donned a military uniform and is now leading men to prepare the city for its defense. He had this to say. "I am a citizen of the Confederacy. I wouldn't be doing my duty if I sat back and let others fight for me. Besides, the people dont serve me, I serve the people."

The Red Liberation Front has sent an army south to the port city of Anchorage, the home base of the High Seas Fleet. But they were stopped by fighters, fire from the ships and a strong resistance force. Anchorage is the only city in eastern Cree that still is under the Emperor's control.

Siege of Anchorage: Day 14

The city of Anchorage was holding strong. The city was able to store its food and even plant vegetables and fruit in the many gardens and parks across the city. The civilians were armed and ready to defend the city. Around the city were five rows of trenches for the infantry to use. In the harbor, the High Seas Fleet had wieghed anchor and were steaming just outside of the city. The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier Valley Forge was just releasing his planes for another raid on the Liberation Front. They were joined by fighters from the hidden airbases. Corporal Tom Richards was lying in his trench. His Polish-style AK was fully loaded. His khaki-colored greatcoat was covered in mud. All around him, members of the Imperial Army and the Territorial Reserve were ready for the next wave of communist soldiers.

Then it came. A whistle was heard and from across the battlefield, Tom could see hundreds of communist soldiers charge at the trenches. He fired his weapon and cut down three communists. Take that! he yelled. The communist wave was being cut down by machine gun and rifle fire. Then from behind the communist line, a squadron of Hind attack copters sped for the Imperial line. They fired their missiles and gatling guns. The blasts and bullets killed many Imeprial soldiers. But just as Tom thought his time had come, missiles flew from the city at the copters. Many copters were destroyed as the anti-air defenses fired away. Tanks arrived to reinforce the communist infantry. As they made their way for the Imperials, Tom saw a radioman call in an artillery attack. Missiles from the Kirov-class battlecruisers and shells from the howitzers in the city tore the battlefield apart. Tanks became smouldering piles of metal, infantry were blown to bits and the survivors fled back to their lines. Today was a good day. Day 14 was won.

Good luck,

Feng Hu, Defesne Committee Chairman, Gallipoli-China

Erwin surveyed the RLF position through binoculars a hundred yards back.  From Winnipeg, his forces had been directed to the makeshift airstrip that was servicing what passed for the RLF air squadron.  He would have laughed if several prominent RLF officers hadn't been standing to either side of him.  Human wave attacks, now really.  Putting away the binoculars, he assumed a grave expression and turned to the most senior officer.

"The problem as I see it is that the naval ships are pinning your forces down in the trenches, and making the Imperial line virtually impenetrable."  The officers nodded in agreement.  "Now, you have, until now, been unable to attack the naval ships.  Well, that's what I'm here for.  The J-10s are equipped for such an operation, and you've got about a hundred of them at your disposal.  Shall we launch a strike?"

Siege of Anchorage: Day 16
Admiral Dontiz stood on the bridge of his flagship, the Kirov battlecruiser Imperial Guardian. He had directed the High Seas Fleet to defend Anchorage at all costs. The fleet was awaiting another RLF human wave attack. Human wave attacks, really? But if I can hold this RLF army here, it gives the Emperor more time to prepare the people and Kerak for an attack. An ensign came up to him and saluted. Sir, we have enemy fighters coming in. They are targeting the fleet. Admiral Dontiz turned to radioman. Get our fighters in the air! I want the Valley Forge and the hidden airbases to sweep in and defend the fleet. Tell those idiots at the anti-air defense rings to open fire! The radioman nodded. In ten minutes those planes would be in the air. He hoped the anti-air defenses could hold off the planes.

General Xavier Rommel stood around his anti-air defenses. He had formed multiple rings of anti-aircraft weapons in the city, all within reach of the fleet. He looked on his radar. The enemy aircraft tried to make their way around the city, so they could avoid the anti-air missiles. They don't know As the fighters made their way for the fleet, the anti-air defenses opened up. Missiles and bullets flew at the aircraft. Many planes turned to evade, but some were hit. The planes moved in to attack the ships. A group of planes fired at a destroyer and sunk it. The ships fired back with their own missiles. Then the Imperial fighters arrived. The fighters charged headlong into the RLF fighters. The two sides mixed it up. But with the fire from the ships, the anti-air defenses, and Imperial fighters, the RLF air squadron was all but destroyed. The survivors fled back to the RLF lines

OOC: please don't RP your opponent's losses.  It's really bad etiquette.  I'd IGNORE it, but I have a proxy to pass this particular error on to :-P

IC: Damn RLF can't even launch a strike correctly.  Glad none of my men were with that.  It would defeat the whole purpose of this exercise.

"Well, now that they've wasted some of their ammo, and now that my men know exactly what the Canadians will do, let's send them a second wave.  Incidentally, you might want some of your artillery to fire on the ships."  God, these people are unintelligent.  At least they managed to draw out the Imperial reserves.  Do they ever fucking talk?

The 88 J-10s were designed for air-to-air combat, not to bomb ships.  The J-10Bs were a different matter entirely, designed for such hard ground, or in this case sea, targets.  As such, the J-10s were launched first, their mission being to clear a space for the J-10Bs to make a run on the aircraft carrier.  This was easier said than done; there looked to be about 120 Imperial airplanes in total, though most were obsolete compared with the J-10s, and had been in the air for far longer.

The G-C squadron didn't make the mistake of the last strike.  The J-10Bs flew in low and fast, preventing the anti-air from aquiring a good target.  This, of course, made them sitting ducks for the fighters, but few of them were actually hit.  The J-10s above them were doing an excellent job of keeping the Imperial fighters off them, as was the spray of anti-aircraft fire that accumulated just above the J-10Bs.

They fired, and the big carrier was hit by two missiles, one near the waterline, the other hitting the island superstructure.  Immediately the squadron retreated, its mission done.  Casualties were light for both air forces, but the carrier was smoking in two places, though it didn't look as though the avgas had caught light.  Certainly it wouldn't be able to operate as efficently, and that might just give the boys on the ground a fair shot.

OOC: you decide how heavily the carrier's damaged.  And be fair about it.  No ship is completely uneffected by getting hit with two missiles.

One I hate you :o that was low. Hitting my carrier like that. I be fair and i wont do that number thing.

Admiral Dontiz stared at the Valley Forge. The captain was personal friend. Now he was dead. The fighters flew back to their bases. The naval fighters would also have to make their way to the airbases. The carrier was luckily in shallow water with the rest of the fleet. She didn't sink, but she would be out of action for this part of the war. Boats went out to help the survivors. But this battle was far from over. He turned to his second in command. Time to bring the fleet back into the harbor. Call the Imperial Defense Fleet. Tell them they have the only operational carrier. Tell them that we have lost the Valley Forge.

Siege of Anchorage: Day 19

Admiral Dontiz was pleased. The preparations have gone well and so far unnoticed by the RLF. General Rommel stood next to the admiral. This has to go as planned. Nothing must fail. Admiral Donitz turned to his second Captain, do it. The captain smiled and saluted. Transports lowered their doors and loaded up the remainder of the soldiers and their equipment. The previous day, the vaster amount of the army was loaded up. Bombers flew over the city and rained napalm on it. The entire city burned. As the fleet left with its transport, the harbor was blown up by charges set in place by engineers. Finally the minelayers placed a thick wall of mines around the city. Dontiz smiled. If any ship wanted to use that harbor, they would have to at their own risk. And it would take  the RLF a long time to rebuild that harbor. Lets hope Kerak is ready.

OOC: are you going to RP the actions of the RLF at all, or would you prefer it someone else did that?

IC: After the evacuation of the Imperial troops, the RLF forces entering the city of Anchorage found it a mass of rubble.  A few structures were standing here and there, many were burning.  The people of the city were emerging bewilderedly from cellars and some from their tottering houses, knowing full well who had bombed their city to smithereens.

Erwin resisted the temptation to strike the RLF forces from behind.  It would be entertaining, but it was not his goal.

Frederick Zander, commander of the Red Liberation Army stood in among the rubble of the city. Clever Admiral Dontiz. He didn't want us to use the city. Perhaps it is time to talk. He turned to his second. Tell the Ministry that they should accept the Imperialist proposal. His second looked at him. Why, sir. Frederick glared at him. Because this war is a failure to listen. The Emperor and his nobility didn't listen to the people. So we should look good in the eyes of our allies and the world. We should agree to talk. The colonel saluted and left to relay the message.

Thousands of soldiers on three different locations were formating, hundreds of vehicles were prepared. Soon, the squads of The Legion, Black Dragon, Steel Wyrm and White Dragon were ready, the Leviathan naval forces were guarding their back. Soon, all three groups will start travelling to Anchorhead, to break the blockade and free it from the RLF.

Emperor Paul I was thrilled. Word had come from the front lines. Fenexian soldiers had joined in on the Confederacy's side. Soldiers were enhearted and were rallying to the new arrival. He looked out to the city of Kerak. With supplies coming in daily from sympathitic nations and Fenexians strengthening the Imperialist lines, Paul I knew that the mobilization would be done in a few weeks. This war had finally turned.

Sergeant Tom Richards breathed peacefully for the first time since Anchorage. He was proud of the stripes he had earned. Now his army group was joined by the Fenexian Army and they were making their way for Anchorage. He may have not liked the destruction of Anchorage by the Imperialists, but he wanted the RLF to pay for their treachery.

We request permission to land military forces on your shores for transport to Canada.  Furthermore, we request that steps be taken to prevent Fenexian ships from making their way to Canadian waters.

Feng Hu, Defense Committee Chairman, Gallipoli-China

Anchorage was a wasteland, of no value to anybody.  The mines and the destruction of the harbor meant that neither the RLF nor the Imperialists could possibly use it for anything for a long time to come.  The only thing that could be done was to leave air squadrons outside Anchorage to prevent the Imperialists from retaking it.

However, with the addition of Saletsian troops and equipment, the RLF was prepared to make its assault upon Kerak, or to hold its positions.

OOC: could you provide a map saying where exactly these cities are?

OOC 1. Fenexian soldiers and ships are already in my terriotry. 2. Unfortunatly I have no map. St. Oz hasn't sent me back a thing saying he is done with my country map yet.

You promised you would act as peacekeepers. You said you would moderate G-China's attacks. If you allow G-Chinese forces to transport troops through your country, you are compromiseing yourself as a neutral country. If you allow G-China send troops through your country, I will arrest your "peacekeepers" and hold them as criminals.

That should attract their attention. What is the war turning into. General Rommel came into the Emperor's office with a piece of paper. Sir, the RLF Ministry has accepted the cease-fire and is willing to talk. The Emperor nodded. Good tell them that so are we. That should buy me more time.

This was this morning's paper, the Cree Confederate Times
Cease-Fire Called

The RLF Ministry and the Confederate government have agreed to a cease-fire on all fronts. The war that had started some time ago, is so far ended with the occupation of the southern parts of the Confederacy, the destruction of Anchorage and Saskatoon and the loss of as many as fifty thousand men, sources say. The summit will be hosted by Takasia in their capital city St. Takasburgwill involve represeatatives from G-China, RLF, the Confederacy, Fenexia and others. We all hope that they can come up with a peaceful solution to this war.

OOC: The summit meeting will be held in the Treaty section of this forum. All parties involved must send a represenative to the summit. No personal guards! You must name your representative in the forum. It is called the Cree Peace Summit.

I knew that.  It probably should have read "Furthermore, we request that steps be taken to prevent more Fenexian ships from making their way to Canadian waters."

The Grand Council convened. Chancellor David Morena sat in his chair and looked over a pile of paper placed. So, all industrial factories have been moved farther west, and they have been put to a full war footing. Tanks, planes, and other war equipment is pouring out of the factories. How about mobilization? The Minister of Defense stood up. My Lord Chancellor, mobilization is complete. The Territorial Reserves and the Imperial Army have been fully armed and have been organized into battalions that have veterans in them. Also many more people are either going into the factories to work or are joining the army. Davisd smiled. Waht about the Salestian fleets that keep bringing equipment and the rumors of a G-Chinese battle fleet? The Minister of the Navy stood up. While this ceasefire is continuing, we have opened up the Naval Reserve. Fresh ships are being brought up into the line. The Imperial Defense Fleet, what is left of the High Seas Fleet and the Second Fleet have moved in to blockade the Red occupied coast. The Chancellor nodded. Alright, close down the border between New Delfos and the Confederacy. I'm sure we have fresh soldiers who can guard that border. Overall, how many soldiers do we have now that the full mobilization is compelete. The Minister of Defense slid David a smaller piece of paper. The Chancellor opened up the piece of paper and was shocked by the number. That many!?

Just thought I'd be helpful and provide a rough map.  I've no idea where the cities are, so this is obviously an approximation.

Green is Imperiali territory
Red is RLF-occupied territory
Yellow indicates Fenexian military
Orange indicates Salestsian military
Pink indicates G-C military (the battle fleet is currently off the Delfian coast, and does not show up on this map)

Meanwhile the Saletsian forces had set up a provisory military camp near the shores that were guarded by Saletsian naval vessels. Air-defense wand anti-ship missiles were readied to avoid any surprise attacks and pioneers started clearing an area to allow Satsian MiGs and F5s to fly.

The Gallipoli-Chinese fleet in New Delfos, minus the troop transports, has been ordered to Llanydern following the news of a Dysanii military buildup along the Llanydern border.

Due to Myroria's moves into the Annabe region, the Imperial Army inculding the Alpini Guards moved up to the Annabe border. Emperor Paul I looked at the message of the movements of Myroria. If Myroria gains more regions, that puts my Empire in a bad position. I must think of a way to secure a gain in this region. He picked up his phone. "Get me the Myrorian Emperor."
