Peté Tar-Ilium stepped out on the balcony in the front of the Grand Royal Residence. There were people gathered in the square, with TV cameras scattered about. It was also being broadcasted on the radio. As the crowd quieted, Peté began to speak.
"The Kingdom of Myroria finds it in its best interests to start exploration of Selene, Taijitu E's natural satellite. Myself and the Imperial Aristocratic Space Administration find that the best way to start this is to be the first nation to put a man on the moon and return him safely to Taijtu E. From that point, the program will start researching a base on the moon. Good day."
-
The ten members of the mission Selene 1, the first actual manned mission after many unmanned scouting operations, walked to the vertical Universe Shuttle (space shuttle, to those who don't use our quintessential Myrorian naming conventions), helmets under arms, and climbed in the hatch to the Universe Shuttle Challenger. Only seven of them were actually going to be in the Universe Shuttle, the rest were going to be in the Selenian Launcher, the designation of the craft meant to fly them to the moon. The IASA had decided to kill two birds with one stone, so the shuttle was going to jettison the Selenian Launcher before docking with the Myrorian Space Station (MSS) and performing a mission there. However, the routine mission to the MSS wasn't what caught the public's eye. All over Myroria, crime rates plummetted as everyone stayed home to watch the onboard for the Selenian Launcher. However, the IASA had planned for this to be a quick solution to Peté's demand. The Selene 1 would be a minimal mission of only staying on Selene for a few hours before returning. The following missions, 5 of them planned, the last 3 of which would begin construction of a moon base, would be the real work on the moon. After a few hours, the Universe Shuttle Challenger was ready for take off.
"T-minus ten...nine...eight...seven...starting ignition sequence...six...five...four...three...two...one...liftoff. Godspeed, gentlemen."
Everything was going clear. 5 minutes after takeoff, the Universe Shuttle reached orbit. At the command from ground control, it jettisoned it's Selenian Launcher, which, after a few seconds, started up it's rocket and took off for Selene.
Three days later...
After several orbits of Selene and good surface data collected from it, the Selenian Lander disconnected itself from the Selenian Launcher, which continued to prepare for the reconnection. The Selenian Lander found a suitable landing spot they named Vyarden Base and touched down. A few minutes later, the hatch opened and a man climbed down the rungs of the ladder. What he saw amazed him.
I feel as if I should say something about mankind...
His fellow astronaut approached him.
"Rudolph Yale, first man on the moon. Well, raise the flag."
Rudolph hoisted the Myrorian flag up the flagpole planted in the ground. Without an atmosphere, it would never fly in the wind, so a wire was used to hold it up. They both Roman saluted it.
Ground control chimed in.
"Ground Control to Selene 1, do you copy?"
"We copy."
"Have you touched down?"
"Yes."
Cheers erupted on the other end of the radio.
"Finish your mission and return home, gentlemen."

IASA Headquarters, Nova Pelagis, Myroria.
A man turned his neck to look at a computer screen. A new worker had developed a computer generated image of the moon base he thought would be the best for Selene 3 to start.
"Looks like a good start. Of course, we want a small colony by Selene 5. It's certainly less fantastical most suggestions I've recieved. I think we'll take it. Good job."
"I'm glad you think so, sir."
"Please - call me Alvar."
The Mars V rocket, named after the Ancient Myrorian god of war, stood on the launch pad. Inside it was the Selenian Launcher, and the materials to make the base design IASA decided on.
"Ten...nine...eight...seven...six - ignition sequence started - four...three...two...one...commit and liftoff of the Mars V rocket bound for low Taijitu orbit and human colonization of Selene."
At around the same time, the Mars I rocket, for taking the human crew into low Taijitu orbit, also took off from it's landing pad at the other side of the IASA Space Center.
In space, the crew and Selenian Launcher were united, while the packaged materials were attached to the Selenian Launcher and it prepared for the three day trip to Selene.
-
The Selenian Lander, again with two men in it, touched down on the moon's surface. Not long after, the packaged materials opened their airbags and bounced across Selene until it rolled to a stop. The astronauts moon hopped across the desolate, flat landscape until reaching the ball of rubber and cloth that was the supply box. Carefully taking off the airbags, the astronauts then pried open the crate with a crowbar secured to the top of it. The sides of the crate fell to reveal the supplies: several large, aluminum siding for the only building to be constructed this mission, a small, metal staircase, two railings for the said staircase, and several machines to make CO2 into oxygen. It turned out that the supplies landed in a good spot, only 5 kilometers away was a small patch of frozen water. The base had been established near the pole; here sunlight was always shining and the solar power used to power the Selenian Rover and other structures. Another wire supported flag was raised outside the pre-fabricated main building, that was already beginning to take shape.

Not to be outdone, the Myrorians used a pencil.

From: Laya Khoris, Leader of the Feniexian Space Base building team
To: Selene Exploration team
Our exploration team has reported that you had landed on Selene. As you see, we are too interested in a Space base on the surface of this satellit. Maybe we can cooperate on this mission to obtain better results for both of our nations?
OOC: I hope it´s ok when I join...I planned a space colonization RP long ago, but I had too less time to start it...
-
Laya Khoris,
This would certainly work out. I have no problems with your team entering my moon colony so that we can cooperate peacefully.
Rudolph Yale, Selenian Conquesteur, Governor of Yale Colony.
-
The Feniexia Space Base building team packed up all their equipment hastily, and began to move with their 8 mooncrawler in direction Myrorias base.
-----OOC-----
Crew, vehicles and other stuff moving to the Myroria base:
20 scientists
30 workers
8 mooncrawler*, loaded with some ressources and devices
Laya Khoris, High One Councilwomen of Space Travel and Colonization
-------------
Crew, vehicles and other stuff moving later to Myrorias base:
The huge Space Shuttle "Illumina" (with 10 other scientists and 15 crew members).
-----OOC-----
4 hours later:
Laya Khoris, a (for her race) young woman (she´s about 145, although she looks like she is 21), in a thin space suit (with helm off), is standing abord the leading mooncrawler (which is the only one closed and with air support, used by the commando staff).
NS Wiki page of her (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Laya_Khoris)
"Here we are." she said in her headset microphone. "Should I give orders to unload my transporters? I just don´t know if our technology is compatible with yours...."
-
"All you need to do is drive your mooncrawlers to the airlock door on the main building. There a bridge will connect with it and you can enter the base much the same as you would enter an aeroplane. The rest of your group will enter through the south airlock door."
-
"Ok. We come."
Laya quickly ordered the 7 other mooncrawlers what they have to do, then she ordered the pilot of her own mooncrawler to enter the base, through the south door as Yale had adviced. Quickly, her mooncrawler reached Myrorias main gate. She drove through the airlock without any incidents. As she finally was in the main hall, the mooncrawler airlock door opened. Laya and her two bodyguards stepped out of the ship, and carefully watched the room they´re entering.
-----OOC-----
I don´t know how your main hall/entrance hall/whatever looks like. Just correct me if I´d done something wrong.
-
A scientist with Velcro shoes stepped down the hall. They were made so that he could walk, which proved had a large psychological impact on astronauts that arrived. He walked past a primitive humanoid robot in it's infancy and approached the new visitors.
-
"Greetings." Laya said. "I´m High Councilwoman Laya Khoris for
Space Travel and Colonization. And you?" she said with a friendly smile, unlike her bodyguards, who looked very serious and vigilant.
Behind her, a human stepped out of the mooncrawler. (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Akira_Corona)
"Greetings." he said in a neutral voice.
-
"Sjors Wiebe, Apprentice Conquesteur of Yale Colony. Please, let me lead you to Rudolph. He's in his office."
Sjors led the group into a large dome that had a bunch of computers and partly disassembled robots, much like the one that accompanied him.
He opened a fogged glass door and showed the Feneixians into an office with Rudolph Yale, dressed in a lab coat, at the other end in a leather chair.
"Please - sit down. If you can - it took even me a while to get used to it on this kind of gravity.
OOC: By "humanoid robot" I mean a slightly more developed ASIMO. Nothing like C-3PO or anything.
-
Sit down - that was not too easy. Although Laya managed to do so very early comparised to the others, she still needed 2 minutes. "I really like this zero-gravity." she said wih a laugh.
The two bodyguards managed it too, but much later.
Dr. Corona blushed a bit as he recognizes that he must look very funny trying to sit down, so he just let himself be floating a few centimeters above the seat, with a grim look.
"Thank you, Sjors." Laya said.
-----OOC-----
Yeah, I already thought something like that, but thanks for the clarification.
-
OOC: There's gravity on the moon. You wouldn't just float, but walking would be like hopping; hence the velcro shoes.
"Beautiful sight outside, id'n it? But I get beside myself. Please, tell me what you would like to say."
-
"As you can see" Laya begun "you´re not the only one interesting in space colonization. As I saw that you are here too, I just thought maybe we can work together to increase our efficience and so got better results."
"Oh, and maybe your scientist and I can work together." Dr. Corona added.
-----OOC-----
Ok, although they will still look funny (except Laya).
-
"Sounds like a good idea. We could do that."
-
Laya nodded. "What are you planning at now? We need to know what you´re doing to cooperate efficencly."
-
"We're beginning our project of mining of the moon. We've found a good site about 5 kilometers north of here for iron. Once it gets developed, Yale Colony alone will provide Taijitu with millions of tons of iron every year."
-
"Ok. We can provide you with technology and scientists." Laya said.
"But for that, we´ll want percents. Let´s come to the business part."
"Dr. Corona..."
-----OOC-----
(I´m not greedy, but Corona is a bit. Don´t mistake that, he´s the only one who might be angry if there´s not much reward - I´m just RPing him out correctly^^)

"We're also planning a trip to Orestes. It's probably just an anomaly, but the Myrorian Telescope orbiting Taijitu has seen what appears to be...ruins near the equator. Again, it's probably just an anomaly, but, we're going to check it out anyway. Even so, Orestes is far too dry to support life now. At the same time as we test this, though, we'll have a chance to test our Nuclear Fusion Deep Space Craft, or NFDSC. It has eight small load hydrogen bombs on it, which will allow it to reach Orestes far faster than any craft known now. The basic premise of it is that it launches this hydrogen bomb through the back of the ship, then travels on it's explosion, which allows it to catapult it very quickly. Since Orestes is so close, we'll probably only have to use three of the eight hydrogen bombs to get the ship there and back, since we'll be using gravity assist on the return trip. The NFSDC will be attached to a tug which will be launched from that mass driver over there. Once it is jettisoned and the tug far enough away, we'll be on our way to Orestes.
OOC: I don't believe this to be a godmod because:
1. It's being used for completely peaceful purposes.
2. NASA was researching this but cancelled it largely because of the danger of nuclear fallout to humans. There's minimal nuclear fallout if it starts it's run from orbit instead of the surface. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Orion_%28nuclear_propulsion%29)
-
"Hmm..that´s quite interesting. I ask therefore to take part myself in this mission."
"I and my scientists will wait for our shuttle to arrive here, I suppose that won´t take longer than three hours."
-----OOC-----
I don´t think the use of the Orion Project is godmoddish either.
The Feniexian space shuttle is currrently transported to your base. Inside, there is the resting lace for my crew and some labs of Corona and his scientists.
-
"Ok then. The capsule at the front has no windows; if it did we'd be blinded by the explosions. It does, however, have a camera so that we can still see what's going on without being blinded. The capsule can hold 16 people comfortably, 24 people at the maximum. Allow me to lead you to the ship; it's being stood up along with it's bigger bretheren. The bigger ones have yet to be tested, but if all go as planned we should be able to fit at least 600 on the largest (The Orion Project in real life was made for 1080 at the largest; I scaled it down so it's impossible to go farther than the nearest stars). Once your scientists are ready to go, the mission will commence about 4 hours after that."

Try that, Bustos.
-
OOC: Where are the resources coming from to produce all of this?
-
Laya nodded. "I´ll take 5 scientists with me."
Then, she went her head in the directipn of one of her bodyguards.
"Go to my mooncrawler and bring the scientists to me. Oh, and don´t forget to lock it."
-
1. I have three of these craft currently, and only one is in operation. Certain metals have been mined from Selene before any huge commercial boom, but you refused to document them. I consider the metals mined from Selene to be valid materials, not to mention that a meager two resources from a crown colony is crazy unrealistic and even tiny countries like Austria have way more resources than that.
2. The gold to protect us from radiation is coming from Myroria.
3. Natural gas heats it.
4. I'm planning to switch marble to uranium.

The moonbus stamped with the Myrorian coat of arms hovered down onto the landing pad after finishing the 90 minute travel to the mass driver. Looking out the windows of the moonbus, the mass driver seemed to go on for kilometers. The spacesuited Yale stepped out of the moonbus last.
"Well, this is it. Selene Mass Driver 3, or SMD-3. Built for heavy duty work, so it needed to be long. 15 kilometers long, in fact. Took months to make."
At the end near the landing pad was a tug with an NFSDC on it.
After the pre-flight checks were complete, the group strapped in, and morphine taken, NFSDC Cassiopeia was ready for liftoff. After what seemed like hours of being pushed back into the seats of the spacecraft, the tug lifted off and soon acheived orbit. After a 20 minute rotation to the opposite side of Selene (to stop the EMP blast from interfering with equipment at Yale Colony), the tug jettisoned its load and took a dive back to the surface. After it was far enough away, the NFSDC used it's rockets to adjust it's trajectory toward Orestes and fired a bomb. The bomb was shot out, and the explosion kicked back the protection plate. The Cassiopeia was on it's way to the greatest discovery of the millenium - and perhaps - the world.
-
Dr. Corona in his thin spacesuit stepped out shortly before Yale. He was, unlike the earlier astronauts using older spacesuits, very agile. He looked around. "Nice station." he said.
Laya Khoris was putting on her space suit helmet, but she first had some troubles with her hair to get it all below it. As she noticed that one of the scientists was looking at her, she winked with her left eye shortly.
"Are we there already? That was a really short flight."
OOC:
The "older spacesuits" are not meant to be used from you, only as comparison.

Inside the Navigation Station were the two pilots. Inside the Habitation Module were the other eight people, who were prepared to enter the Orestes Excursion Module and fly to the surface. In 100 days the Cassiopeia was orbiting around Orestes, compared to a journey that would take up to two years with any other nation's propulsion. When the ship was nearing the location of the ruins, the OEM was jettisoned from the aircraft, with the eight people in the habitation module aboard, toward the ground. It entered Orestes' thin atmosphere and used hover rockets to touch down safely approximately 100 meters from the edge of the ruins.
Methane ponds and lakes dotted the barren landscape. As the team approached the ruins, the towers loomed higher and higher on the horizon.
-
All the Feniexian scientists had put off their helmets except for Laya, who had a very sensitive nose (like almost all other High Ones) and just can´t stand the smell of Methane.
"Towers? Can this be...the buildings of some kind of...more or less intelligent beings?"
-
OOC: You'll need your helmets in such a thin atmosphere anyway. When the oceans dried up the atmosphere thinned.
IC:
"It could very well be; I doubt natural erosion could cause this. We already knew there was evidence of water previously on Orestes but...this is beyond comprehension...this is the greatest discovery of the century..." Yale said.
-
OOC: Thank you for correction.
IC:
"Yes...And I´m too being here. I´m frankly exited about this. And, if we really find signs of former life here, then we finally proved that we´re not alone. However....what will you do, when we find for what we searched?" Laya asked.
-
"Call for the construction of a base and the arrival of rovers and moonbuses. We need to be careful when we reveal it to the public; there will always be conspiracy theorists who will try to say we faked it, so we need the best evidence that it exists."
-
Laya nodded. "I´ll inform our government. They´ll provide us with great fundings and supportments."
-
"Very well."
OOC: End thread. I'll make one later tonight that takes place about 18 months from the landing, when a Feniexian-Myrorian base has been established.
-
Ok. I´m still waiting^^
