Title: Securing The Border
Post by: Bustos on January 18, 2007, 05:43:56 PM
"These are the current reports Chairperson.  New nations are forming and not all of them are going to be as friendly as Acle.  Just a few months ago a nation formed just south of our borders in the highlands.  The primary concern is of the mountains that border our north.  Offically we claim just below them.  However, we have built some outposts just north of our borders along the range.  The Board and the military are requesting the creation of a network of tunnels, in-mountain/underground bases, and ammo depots along the range as a defensive measure incase of invasion.  The most likely path of attack would be here and here. *pointing to the two regions east and west of the mountain range of the Allied States borders*   Which, we have placed defenses.  It is along the mountains we lack any strong defenses, much less much knowledge of the terrian.

Despite the difficulting of such a crossing, any modern motorized army can do it, and would actually be very successful, even with the small outposts we do have.  Another reason to create a defensive line along the mountains would be a back up measure.  Incase the west or east borders were penetrated, the mountains can serve as a staging line for offensive operations behind enemy lines.  At worst, they could engage in guerilla warfare disrupting their invasion."

The Chairperson continued to listen, looking at the map the Colonel had brought in, outlining the requested construction projects.

The arrows show most likely avenues of invasion into northern Allied States.
The dots show requested mjaor military installation positions in the mountain range.

"Okay I am authorizing the creation of mountianeer training for motorized divisions, airborne brigades, and special forces platoons.  To support these new training camps, networks of tunnels, in-mountain/underground bases, and ammo depots will be constructed along the range," said the Chairperson as he wrote down the order and signed it, then handed it to the Colonel.

"I'll leave the details to you Colonel."

"Yes, Chairperson.  I'll oversee this personally.  Thank you."

In a Blackhawk, the Colonel was inspecting an area on the other side of the mountain range with a group of engineers for a new location of an ammo depot.  The pilot flew through the valleys, allowing his passengers a close look for any natural caves for such a depot.  Soon they came upon a small clearing of a plateau that rised up from the valley.  The pilot was about to make a 180 turn to head back, but an engineer was curious was laid ahead and requested a glimpse of the plateau before returning and the Colonel allowed it.

As the Blackhawk raised in altitude against the rock face.  The occuapnts were suprised to see what was awaiting them as they met the top of the plateau.

The wooden outpost at the plateau's edge had been alerted to the presence of the Blackhawk from the noise of it rotors.  When they first saw it in the distance they screamed "DRAGON!" and prepared to defend themsevles.

As soon the Blackhawk revealed themselves to the outpost after scaling the cliff, arrows and spears suddenly hit the cockpit's windows as it rose over the plataeu.  What the hell?!  "Close the doors!  Break away Lieutenant!"

The pilot manuevered to gain more altitude as the occupants closed the sliding doors of the Blackhawk.  The primitive weapons barely nicked the paint of the helicopter.  Well, well, what do we have here?

Since first contact with the vassal of the Great Tribe, diplomatic advisors have spent time talking and learning of the Great Tribe.  Their government was composed similar to a monarchy, where the throne remained in the posession of the strongest tribe, currently the Yueng Tribe.  It has held its position as the strongest tribe since the conception of the Great Tribe by a leader of Yueng from long ago.  Using its access to the lake and island, the Yueng Tribe has been able to monopolize the silver mines (main form of currency of the Great Tribe) on the island to subdue the remaining tribes.  Silver is incorporated into their daily lives and their religion considers silver to be sacred.

BEV Tribe is the most warlike of all the tribes.  Yueng Tribe often draft their soldiers from the BEV Tribe inexchange for silver.  No one outside of the BEV Tribe understand why they demand their title to be entirely capitialized.

Dep Tribe is composed of smaller nomadic tribes that only unite when another tribe tries to invade their domain.  They also claim land further west than what is recognized by the other tribes.  However the Dep remain concentrated in the marked region.

Drin Tribe is to be considered a puppet of the Yueng Tribe by always supporting the throne in their actions.  Drin gives their support, and some say even coastal control in return for the largest access to the silver that comes out of the Yueng Tribe.

Hess Tribe, the mountain tribe, and the first people encountered by the survey team scouting on the other edge of the range.  Mostly reclusive but highly religious.  Despite best efforts of our diplomatic corp to say the opposite, the Hess Tribes considers Bustian people to be the Children of the Gods to command the flying beasts (aka Blackhawks and other helicopters).

Tainer Tribe,  a mix of the Dep and BEV tribes in lifestyles.  They are composed of small nomadic tribes but often war with eachother over terristrial claims.

Yueng Tribe, the strongest tribe by controlling the flow of silver.  Their warriors are often fill by recruits from the BEV Tribe, allowing them to hold off attacks from any tribe trying to seize the silver mines.  However, once in their history BEV Tribe once conquered all of the mainland of Yueng Tribe  but could not manage to successfully hold any portion of the island.  The BEV Tribe conceded to the Yueng Tribe their lands back and allowance of their warriors to defend them in exchange for a large steady supply of silver.

The Hess Tribe was easiliy convinced to support our bid to control the Great Tribe.  Their religious fevor has died down a bit but, I am sure had largely influenced their choice to become our allies.  They also have seen first hand our capibilities of flight and compact rapid fire arms.

Dep and Tainer Tribes have rejected our offer to join us.  Even with the promise of being allowed to continue their nomadic ways, they said they would fight us to the last man.  However, demostration of our capabilities has swayed some of the small tribes in each domain to join us.  Under our protection, they have migrated to the outer edge of the Hess Tribe domain.

BEV Tribe, the most warlike of all, was not hard to convince once they saw our demostration of power.  They easily conceded as long as we promised to supply them with our weapons.  They were informed that once the Allied States, offically annexed the Great Tribe as an offical colony, they would all have to opportunity to join our "war tribe."

Yeung and Drib Tribes rejected and kicked out our diplomatic delegations.  This was to be expected but still unforunate.

I have sent additional attachments on plans and options of subduing the resisting tribes.  Namely, we do the sweeping and leave the Allied tribes to do the mopping.  Also included are areas of land we can, or should in my opinion, occupy in the process.

Shagras
As per their request, two Bustian motorized squads (5 Humvees) met up with the expedition from Shagras to lead them to a base camp in the Hess Tribe Domain.  This way the expedition could begin setting up their own camps inside the friendly tribe's territory.
____________________________

Positiong of Forces
The Mechanized Divisions had to take very long routes scouted through the mountains to enter the Hess Tribe, so ammo and fuel depots were being erected near the base of the mountain paths.  The Motorized Divisions had little difficulty traversing the terrain and were already establishing themselves to enter Dep and Tainer Domains.

The smaller tribes of Dep and Tainer had given information on seasonal movements of the other tribes.  With that information, Blackhawks were able to locate many tribes and maintain a watch on them and their movements.
_____________________________

BEV Tribe Eagerness
BEV Tribe had announced their alliegance to the Allied States openly, calling for their warriors to leave Yueng and Drib to support upcoming war.  To date there is very little intelligence on BEV warriors currently in service in Yueng and Drib.  But the warriors in BEV are massing to invade.  Bustian advisors are trying to keep BEV leaders from jumping the gun and starting the fight but so far all attempts are futile.
____________________________

Warrior Angels
The Hess Tribe is content to allow the Allied States to do the fighting, seeing Bustian soldiers as warrior angels with magical weapons and creatures.  Re-education centers are being erected to correct this image.

Dep and Tainer Domains
With the assistance of the Blackhawks and Apaches, many tribes in the two domains were subdued.  We actually suffered some causalities as troops have become reckless while facing the primitive weapons.  Some face court martials for ignorance of battlefield tactics.  Those few deaths and the court martials have managed shake the carelessness out of the remaining soldiers.

BEV Tribe Impulsive
The BEV Tribe had attacked into Yueng and Drin just prior to when our motorized forces were sent into Dep and Tainer.  Many BEV warriors employed by Yueng and Drin turned against them and were able to support BEV forces.  There are many reports of pillaging and looting in Yueng and Drin Domains.

Forces are reorganizing to support BEV intial attacks in Yueng and Drin Domains.  The few remaining Dep and Tainer tribes are being flushed out and cornered.

Diplomatic caravan
10 miles south of front line -Dep territory.
8:56 Shagras time

The Caravan stumbled into a morbid scene...

Black smoke billowed from a once proud stronghold, and slowly, it was all too obvious that Bustos had comenced its invasion.
it was a barren place, all vegitation stripped. all the lively sounds that a villiage should hold...suddenly silenced. the sands they tred upon-scorched black from the firebombs dropped only hours before.

the bustian escorts immediatly snapped into Combat Operating Procedure, and pushed towards the Dep front lines.

Hokari's Mind began to race.
"Dublin..." Brother Hokari emplored, "We must dispatch the couriers, get them to Shagras immediatley, Inform the king of our position and request orders for a course of action, be swift now! theres no telling where the tribe is now. we will remain in this location until we have word.
The rest of you! establish a base of operations amongst the ruins! search for survivors and a source of water!
I need three runners!"
three sprinters stepped forth. " You three, i need you to scout the surrounding bluffs for hostile forces and the bustian army, if at all possible we need to establish a medical center for the wounded and the weary."

"OH MY GOD! LOOK!" screamed one of the women. and all eyes turned toward the stronghold:
Charred.. Emaciated.. figures began to eeriely crawl out of the deadly smoke, mutilated corpses, with life somehow still in them. moving... moving towards the caravan...bustians? Deps? they couldn't tell.
"MEDICS!!! MEDICS!!!!!"

Hunting down the last Tainer Tribe

"What do you mean you lost them?!" screamed the Bustian Major into his com.

"Sorry, sir.  Their tracks simply come to a dead end.  Our birds cannot see into the forest to get a visual on them," replied the Sergeant Major leading a platoon to catch what seemed to be the last surviving Tainer war party.  Tainer knew these forests well and being only twelve men strong, their tracks were easier to hide.

The Major sighed on his end.  The war party was estimated fifteen strong and he already had fifty of his men going after them.  Normally he let them go but orders were to eradicate all hostile groups and he had no intention of letting a primitive group of natives get the best of him or his men.

"You do what you have to do Sergeant.  I want those hostiled neutralized."

"Yes sir!"

The Sergeant Major was embarrassed herself on losing these natives.  Despite their advanced technology, they can't shoot what they can't see.  Time for a new plan.

"Okay people," she spoke to her squad leaders' com, "Time to split up and cover more ground.  This is a simple S&D.  Iota squad formation, move out."  The four leaders replied their acknowledgement.  She attached herself to third squad but allowed the Sergeant First Class to personally lead them.

"Jefferson?!  Jefferson?!  Respond!" screamed a soldier he ran through the forest.  "This is Hecto, requesting back up at grid 023,146!  Possible hostile engagement!"

The soldier continued to run towards the direction he last heard Jefferson's scream.  Dodging the low branches as well as trying to keep an eye out for a possible ambush.  He came to a small clearing knelt to the ground, scanning the edge on the opposite side.

*multiple automatic weapons fired in the distance* and Hecto dropped to the ground and rolled, facing the direction he heard the sounds coming from.

"TAKE THAT YOU FUCKIN GOOK!"  *additional multiple automatic weapons fired in the distance*  *DAMN THIS MOTHERFUCKER HURTS!"

Jefferson?!  "JEFFERSON?!  Is that you?!" screamed the soldier.

"Huh?  Yes it's me!" replied Jefferson, following a groan.

The soldier walked across the clearing and no more than 5 yards deep, laid Jefferson with a small knife in his right thigh.  Not that far from him, laid a dead native, bleeding from multiple holes.  "Nice grouping," joked the soldier, he then turned back to his com, "Need a medic asap at grid 023,147!  Jefferson's hurt!"

Jefferson fired a few more rounds into the native.  "Little bitch just popped out from around a tree and stabbed me, then tried to run, sir.  Can you believe it?  He tried a hit and run with a fuckin knife, sir."

"You'll be okay private.  Just try to relax and breathe."  Three down, nine to go.

Hokari Medical center
10:31 Shagras time

Brother hokari wiped a furrowed brow, he had worked his men to the bone. The medical center however was now fully operational.
though they were weary, they had to keep an eye on their DEP patients,  for word from shagras, the bustians, and the hostile tribesmen. Just before the blazing orb settled in the east past the mountains, their scouts had retured.

"finally we have an eye on our situation" thought Hokari as his men briefed him of the newest information:

"the oasis to the east shall be our temporary watersupply, the tribes have been warded away by the bustians, whose central commands are situated primarily to the north east. the roads are our best bet to link up with the bustians, for their motorized infantry patrol them heavily."- the scouts inform their commander.

"excellent work gentlemen, you have aided our caravan in the most important way possible. we can now plan our next move..."

"That makes nine sir," the private noted.  Nine half naked, male bodies laid side by side on the forest floor.  Each laid dead with multiple fatal bullet wounds that blood still slowly seeped out.  The last Tainer tribe war party had finally been eliminated.  The platoon leader, who was embarrased by their difficulty of tracking the party, let out a sigh of relief.  She could finally get her troopers some much needed R&R.

"Get the major on the com," she ordered a radioman.

"Right away ma'am."

Subject:  Travels with the BEV Tribe War Party Part VII

Since my last report, we have engaged Yueng war parties twice.  I still cannot get over the up close n personal hand to hand combat that is the normal of these natives.  Even though I am here strictly as an observer, I am forced to fight along side the BEV warriors, for Yueng warriors make no distinction between them and me.  Even when I fire my XM8, the enemy will still charge me hoping to get close enough to strike me.  This timely report is proof that they have yet to do so.

BEV takes no prisoners.  Any surviving enemy is often tortured before being put to death.  Their bodies are laid in the open, as a warning to enemy patrols.  Interesting to note, how BEV warriors scar themselves for every kill they make.  Usually a list of lines, made from a red hot spear tip, from their shoulder down.  Some place it across their chests.  They even offered to start my "list of kills" on my arm.  I respectfully declined.  They continue to have a hard time to understand why I choose not to take credit for my kills.

It is my continued assestment, that men of the BEV Tribe will enlist in high numbers in our military once we have secured their nation.

Each mile into the last remaining tribes came swiftly.  Stone walls could not stop the artillery from leveling them.  Metal meeting their meat fell many hostiles and made many more surrender upon witnessing the "magic" weapons wielded by the Bustian soldiers.  Too few could escape the pursuing motorized formations and helicopters kept an eye on all of Yueng and Drin's forces.  Many were attempting to use boats to reach Yueng's island for a last stand but Apaches patrolled the channel and sunk any ship it came across.

Word was spreading within the two tribes of the sheer power the Bustian carried with them into their lands.  The option of surrender was given at every town, city, and fort.  More and more were taking that option.

To keep political unity that has existed amongst the Great Tribe, a ruling council make of appointed leaders from BEV, Hess, and the Allied States was formed, replacing the old ruling council of Yueng.  Tainer and Dep tribes were able to have a representative as a part of this council however they would have no voting powers, as per The Great Tribe's tradition.  The same will be true for Yueng and Drin.  From this new ruling council, a provisional government will be established with a goal to slowly merge The Great Tribe's culture and government to mirror that of the Allied States.

As per the Bustian military M.O., in captured cities food and aid distribution centers were built to help support the local populace.  Bustian healing "magic" was becoming wide spread.  In the friendly tribes of Hess and BEV, re-education centers were constructed to teach English, basic math, and general science to aid their transition into the modern world. Re-education centers are planned for construction in Tainer and Dep and in Yueng and Drin once resistance is crushed.

The people of Shagras had staked their territorial claims to border the Bustian claim.  It made no difference.  They relied on foreign nations for protection and posed no threat.  Perhaps the two nations will engage in open trade someday.  Bustian military reported no problems in protecting their convoy.

From the northern shores of Yueng, the island where the remaining Yueng Tribe members could be seen.  The last remaining leaders had accepted the call for surrender.  Cut off from the mainland, their food supplies had run low and there was not enough land to grow food to support the civilian population on the island.

And without Yueng for support, Drin had fallen.

This was the site for the talks with Yueng's and Drin's remaining leaders to discuss terms of their surrender.  Bustian diplomats have been researching The Great Tribe's history to review how the proccedings should occur and the best way to deal with the change the balance of power that the Bustians have brought.

"Sir, the Yueng and Drin representatives are to arrive soon," the aide said.

"What did Mr. Smee say was the appropriate way to welcome them again?" replied Colonel Santorini as he practiced his putting stance against a mirror.

"Well, you raise your hand, open palm facing them and say 'How,' Colonel," the aid demostrated.

"Interesting.  Well I'll introduce the ol' shake after the 'how,'" the Colonel joked lightly as he began to demostrate his putting swing in front of the mirror.

In the Hall of the Yueng castle, sat the representatives of the ruling council, Colonel Santorini, and representatives of Yueng and Drin.  Representatives of Yeung and Drin Tribes were uneasy in the company of Bustians, who have weilded remarkable weapons and constructions, and looked upon the BEV and Hess representatives with jealousy for being allied with them.  Tainer and Deb representatives have accustomed themselves in the presence of the Bustians once they learned it was science, not magic or the gods, that gave them unimaginable capabilities.

BEV and Hess Tribes were already beginning to understand the science behind the Bustian "magic" and many interested learners were attending the new re-education centers to learn more about the modern world that lies beyond their borders.  Tainer and Deb were expected to follow suit with Yueng and Drin behind them.

Colonel Santorini greeted everyone in their manner and also introduced the handshake to each of the representatives.  It was awkward at first but, the tribesmen seemed to catch on to the strange custom easily.  The Drin representative eager to please extended his hand a few too many times.

The Colonel told them there was a new cheif in charge and he was it, for now.  The Board authorized him to head the provsional government for the time being.  He continued to explain how their lives were going to be changed dramatically as many parts of the world have advanced hundreds of years in various fields of learning compared to them.  Change will be slow but, they were now the first Bustian colony.  With the Bustian's help, they were going to get a crash course in understanding the modern world and joining it.  As the first colony of the Allied States, it was going to be its Jewel Colony.

An estimated 5 million Tribesmen made up the new colony which retained its name, The Great Tribe.  The silver mines on the northwestern island were being renovated with modern mining equipment and tribesmen mining teams were being trained in their operations.

With arable land available, new crops were being planted.  The Allied States interested in diversifying its selection of foods have invested in harvesting three vegetables;  carrot, chile pepper, and pumpkin.

The Allied States publicizes their claim of its Jewel Colony (http://www.nationstates.net/the%20great%20tribe).
