The New Land
« on: January 04, 2007, 04:49:20 AM »
Things had gone so horribly wrong in The Lexicon. War had destroyed the once green lands and corruption had spread so quickly. Everyone in the United G Rebellion was evacuated. Slowly. Over many years, they had slipped to a New World.

The last of them had left when a massive change in global politics had caused enough controversy for them to slip away. They had collapsed their infrastructure and destroyed the buildings, and had set up in their New World.

Even the rebel fleets had followed to this New Region, under the command of Agent Sean Aitkin, in the hopes that they could make a real difference to remove Sara who had used the Exodus to sink over Two Thousand suspected rivals and several hundred innocents.

In the New G Rebellion, things were slowly rebuilding. The Army, Navy and Airforce were constantly working to ensure no one attacked during the period of re-building. Things were turning out great however, and modern technologies were being applied from the ground up.

Things were looking up in this new utopia.

Sean, from onboard his flagship, was working on avoiding the G Rebellion fleets but, at the same time, attempting to get a good idea of where they were. For the time being, he couldn't get much detail at all. It was like trying to work without knowing where you were at all.

Several submarines had been sent out, in all directions, hoping to get an idea as to who else was here.

For the moment they were blind but he was certainly not planning to stay that way.

Sean received premilinary reports of what was going on in the nation. Sara had stepped things up, behind the scenes, she had managed to arrest several ministers and was moving in, stealthily, on the Supreme Leader. He still wasn't aware of what was going on since she had the power to intercept everything that went to his desk. At first, she had planned to simply keep herself from being caught for her illegal actions. Now her aspirations were different. She had in mind complete control of the nation and nothing less than total power would suit her.

In the latest batch of reports, Sean was delivered a map of the islands, showing the locations of military facilities or government centers. He noticed that those facilities closest to the Government tended to be based around "The Agency", the organisation that Sara employed to "remove" from the Government.

The Southern Island, which contained very few military facilities, was also the area that Sean noted Sara had very little control over. He noticed a naval facility guarding the main ports and knew that, to land, he would have to get through there.

General Tomlinson, originally not part of the rebel fleets, who took over when a battle killed the last leader of the fleets, commanded respect for his work during his past three fleet command tours. He was around 50 but still had jet black hair and his face wasn't wrinkled as would be expected from someone of his years. He was the ideal man for Sean's plan.

Sean strode onto the flagship command deck. He didn't live on the ship and spent little time there. His preference was to stay away from the military command and to work on formulating methods to slip people out or into the nation, as the situation required.

He saluted the General, who then responded in kind.

"Sir, welcome to the Behemoth."
"Thank you General. It's been a while."
"Close to three weeks now Sean, I started to wonder if you had left us."
"No Sir, I've been buried in a mountain of intelligence reports."
"Find anything?"
"Yes in fact. Please, bring up a map of the new Islands."

On the center planning table, an image of the area appeared.

"So Sean, inform me..."

Sean moved over to the table, and, with his finger, he circled a myriad of locations on the map. The circles filled with light on the map.

"These are the locations of Government facilities in The United G Rebellion."

He then circled most of them again. They changed colour.

"These are the ones that we know for sure Sara has infiltrated and purged."
"My God Sean, that's 12/15 of the largest Government centers. Do we know the location of the Supreme Leader?"
"No Sir, however, it would seem that she has not managed to get to him yet. If she had, I have no doubt, the whole of the Nation would be informed he'd had an accident and then Sara, announcing he had no heir, would take over."

Sean moved to the map and highlighted locations of key military positions. When displayed together, they clearly showed that Sara's base of operations, in the East of the Northern Island, was surrounded on all sides.

On the Southern Island, there were two key facilities. One of them Naval and the other one Sean suspected was probably regular Army but, due to lack of detailed scouting, couldn't be certain. Sara controlled nothing on that island, other than a small building, probably containing twenty men at most.

After Sean had briefed the General, Tomlinson had a lot of questions.

"Sean, how on Earth would we get past this naval point? They're not going to let you just walk in!"
"No Sir. They're going to let you just walk in."

Sara was working hard. She wasnt going to allow anything to go wrong now she was near to her goal. She had stripped away almost an entire ruling body, piece by piece and replaced good men with those loyal to her.

Her target however, was as hard now as ever. She had to remove the most heavily publicised and respected person in The G Rebellion. And she then had to decide on a way to make the public believe he died in an accident and then had to plan to assume power.

She was making her plans however, to move against him. The head of "The Agency", a shady figure, who no one could actually put a name to, was in meeting with her.

"Look, if you can't do this, I'll find someone who can!" Sara shouted
"Ma'am, Capital City wasn't built in a day." He told her, his voice cold and distant
"I don't need Capital City built, I need one man arrested, quietly. It is not that hard!"
"I don't think you appreciate the amount of security around him!"
"Well, one by one, replace them with your men. Within a month, you should be ready to move on him. Get it done Agent because, if in a months time, I don't have him dead, I'll have you."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At the naval station, a radar attendant noticed something strange. A blip entering the waters around the area. It wasn't very big, it appeared about the size of a frigate. Following procedure, he contacted his superiors and they immediately began radioing.

"Unidenitified Object, identify yourself, immediately."

There was no response.

"Unidentified Object, identify yourself or we will be forced to stop you."
"This is the GRN York. General Tomlinson speaking. I'm afraid we experienced some difficulties while travelling here. Our engine failed half way here. My mechanics got it sorted, for which I'm recommending them all for a commendation. Please, grant permission for me to dock."
"York, this is Land Base. Please transmit your identification code."

The Frigate then sent a series of numbers and letters, identifying themselves to be what they claimed to be.

"Thank you York. General Tomlinson, welcome to the United Nations of The G Rebellion. Please proceed to secure port 1."

Tomlinson knew they suspected something. He turned to his second-in-command.

"Prepare an armed squad for combat. I'm pretty sure he's one of hers. Tell Sean that in twenty minutes, if he hasn't heard from us, surface the attack sub and land men."

They pulled into the dockyard and immediately, Tomlinson knew that they wouldn't be able to get out should things become rough. He briefed everyone on their roles and then, with 12 men, he walked out. He walked a distance in front of them, just enough.

As he turned the fourth corner, he was met by a group of 5 men. One of them appeared to be a General.

"Welcome to the New Land." The General said to him.
"Yes. It's a nice set-up you've got here."
"Shame you weren't here earlier. Engine trouble you say?"
"Indeed. They cut out not long after setting out."
"Still, you're here now."

At that exact moment, the men came around the corner.

"I'm sorry General. I'm going to have to take over this facility."
"What the hell is going on?!?" He asked.

Tomlinson smiled at him but didn't notice the gun he had slipped from his right hand side.

"General, we're here to save this nation from the monsters that are eating it away from the inside."

At that moment, the other General fired three shots into the chest of General Tomlinson who fell to the floor.

"FIRE!" Shouted the lead marine and shortly after, the corridor was clear of hostiles.

They ran to the General. He was in bad shape.

"You," the lead man shouted, pointing at one of his men "Radio the ship, tell them to get Sean in here. Tell them we also need medics, fast. Also, tell the strike teams, they have ten minutes to prevent the gun placements from being a risk. My group will proceed to prevent anyone escaping and reporting what's happening here."

Then, General Tomlinson passed out of consciousness and lay limply on the ground, blood still pouring from his wounds.

In the command center of the base, the same attendant noticed another blip; followed by another. Then another. The size of the group moving in rivalled that of the defensive force circling the mainland.

"What the hell?" he asked out loud before he was grabbed from behind.
"Got him Sir." reported the marine
"Good" replied his superior, "Upload the lockdown program."

They inserted a disk and executed a file that cut power to the facility, then, activated the lockdown mechanisms. Heavy blast doors blocked the entrances to the land and the sea.

"Ok people, we've got around 20 minutes to bring everyone in. When you capture them, move them underground." he radio-ed to the other groups.

Approximately 15 minutes later, the base was clear of potential hostiles and they had all been moved down and locked in the lower sections. They now controlled the largest non-mainland military facility.

Shortly after, Sean arrived. Men poured off of the boats and the larger boats moved into the safety of the port. The facility was soon stocked full. Guards for every section, eveery hour and every piece of equipment manned and even, in cases where more advanced equipment was on a boat, it was scavenged.

Sean ran down the halls and up a stairwell. He dodged personell and equipment, charging through doors till he reached the medical unit.

He entered to frantic talking.

"Charging... Clear!"

He watched as the paddles induced movement in the General. Nothing.

"Clear!"

Again, he jerked with the shock. As the paddles were lifted slightly, the orange pieces lifted and moved slightly. The doctors didn't care. They tried again.

"Clear!"

This time, with the shock came a pulse. Tomlinson took a deep breath and then coughed several times. A doctor who had noticed Sean's entry moved towards him.

"What's the news doc?" Sean frantically asked, panic clear in his voice.
"It's not good." Said the man, as he removed a pair of bloody gloves.
"What? Can't you save him?"
"The bullets practically shredded several important areas in his circulatory system. Keeping him alive this long is a miracle. Sean, when... if he regains conciousness, it's likely to be the last time. This won't work again."

Sean was clearly hit hard by what had happened to the General and, with noticing his eyes open, he sprinted to the bedside.

"General?"
"Sean?"
"Yes Sir."
"Is it too late to decide I didn't like your plan?" he asked before laughing slightly, coughing as he did so, clearly in discomfort.
"Sir, I'm so sorry."
"It wasn't your fault... This was... A good plan. Save my nation Sean. Don't let her win."

With that, his hand slumped to his side, his neck slipped sideways and he was gone again.

The doctors immediately rushed back, moving a shell-shocked Sean out of the way whilst they attempted to restart his heart. After 12 attempts, the doctor announced time of death.

Sean slumped against a wall. Another friend gone. He had lost a lot since this situation had begun. From his naive work colleague, to his wife. He had lost more than he cared to think about. He began to suspect his only fuel was the anger and he had the horrible feeling that once this was over, he wouldn't fit into the new world.

Tears were streaming freely down his face. He didn't even attempt to stop them. He simply sat there.

Three Weeks Later

Sean was in a much better position now than he had been before. The resistance had spread, and, with incredible efficiency, had taken all military areas and strategic positions and reinforced them. However, their latest target was a news studio, where Sean intended to make an annoucement to the entire Southern Island.

Sean and four others entered the studios and walked straight to the front desk. They lied to the man, telling him they had an appointment with a director and proceeded to a lift. The elevator took them to the studio floor and, as they arrived, they noticed the red light, indicating filming was in progress was on. Sean moved quietly behind the cameramen and into an office. The other men quickly grabbed the two cameramen and pulled them from their equipment.

Sean then emerged from the office.

"We're on." he said to the other two. They moved to the cameras and pointed them towards Sean, who had taken center stage at the desk at which the newsreaders, who were now laying on the ground since a weapon had been drawn, had been not long before.

"Good evening citizens." He addresed them. "Many of you may recognise my face. I am a wanted man. I commited no crime. Let me tell you a little bit about what your Government are doing. It cannot have escaped your attention that, during the journey here alone, our population dropped by close to 3 thousand. Coincidence? No. This was the work of the First Minister. I do not know why she began this but it began with the killing of one of my men for simply being in the same room as someone. Then, she went after me. I, however, was one of the lucky ones. I escaped before her cold grip could firmly grab my neck and squeeze. Though, that isn't entirely accurate. She has killed no one personally. In your nation there are men, many men, working just out of sight to ensure you don't know what's really going on. Should you find out anything, "The Agency" will simply remove you. They are cold, heartless and unafraid. It was because of this I left. Because of this, I was forced to sail to Marcica to seak sanctuary whilst I built up the group I have with me today. We have fought them and we have won on numerous occasions but nothing comes with out a cost. Two war heroes, two of my friends, are not with us today because of her private agendas! I ask you now, to fight with us. This Southern Island will be the beacon of light to shine against her darkness and we will, together, save our great nation, from those who would destroy it.

My fleets and men are already deeply involved in this place. You cannot remove us now, nor, I hope, do you want to. Be that which your conscience directs you to be! Fight, simply by not turning a blind eye. We believe that the Supreme Leader is under threat from her and we intend to save him and remove her. You had the right to hear this. The truth should not... Can not, be hidden.

Thank you. All hail the United G Rebellion, in it's greatness!"

Later that week

"Ma'am, we've not been able to get anyone close to Sean. He's got a tight operation there. We tried smuggling an agent through their port but he was captured. They seem to have more resources than we had believed." A man reported to Sara.
"Damn it! Ok, the only thing to do is to force him to come to us. Create a report saying I'm planning on moving on the Supreme Leader in a meeting building in three days. Make sure he gets it!"
"Yes Ma'am."

Three Days Later

"Go" Came the order and seconds later, a door opened and three strike teams moved into the building.

"Get to the third floor, security will be tight on the second and worse on the third. Don't hesitate to kill but try and remain stealthy." Twilight ordered.

The teams spread out and began to move through the building. Twilight and her group taking a direct route to a stairwell. They moved up to the second floor and into a corridor. There were no guards there so she continued to move forwards. They ran quietly to the next staircase, knowing that the other teams would clear the floors below.

On the third floor, she could see a man, facing away from them in the hall. She lifted her silenced sidearm and fired. The figure fell to the floor. They then moved up to the meeting room and kicked down the door.

They stormed in guns pointing everywhere. There was a figure slumped in a chair sideways facing from them. Twilight moved slowly towards it and, without lowering her weapon, kicked it round to see the occupier.

She was shocked.

"It's a dummy..." she said.

Then flames engulfed the building. An explosion ripped through the corridors and it collapsed to the ground.

Sean was not in the building when the explosion had gone off. He secretly had suspected it was a trap. He didn't expect to have every member of his team killed.

The man who had found the information had been "interrogated" for days and revealed nothing. He clearly believed the false information he had spread. Sean was considering ordering an attack on a powerful nation in Taijitu, in the hopes that they would retaliate against the nation and, during the chaos, he could prevent Sara from managing to pull of her coup. However, he knew that would harm the people of The G Rebellion and plunge an innocent nation into turmoil with them.

He had to find a way to seperate fact from fiction in the reports he was recieving and he had no way of doing so. He had managed to gain several strategic positions however, on the mainland. He was currently in such a base, relaying information back to their HQ on the Southern Island.

Then, a message popped up on screen. It was a news report being relayed through the nation.

"This is the new just in that Supreme Leader James the First has dissapeared from his home last night. There are no clues as to his whereabouts but, Minister Sara Jenkins has issued the following statement:"

"Good Afternoon to you all." She said "Today is a sad day for the Nation. A man previously respected, a man previously considered a friend has taken his private vendetta against me, and my government to the next level."

Sean could feel the anger bubbling up inside of him.

"Former Agent Aitkin, twice decorated for incredible acts of bravery for our nation and, more recently, seen claiming I and members of my cabinet, have been commiting mass genocide, has taken it upon himself to kidnap the Supreme Leader. Sean, if you're watching this, I beg of you, don't do this. Turn yourself in and you'll get the help you need... And, to the people of this great nation; we need to stand together and, together, we will triumph over this evil. Thank you."

Sean kicked out, knocking over his desk, and in turn, smashing the screen resting on it. Is it really over? Sean wondered to himself.

Sara strutted the corridor of the bunker that was housing her. She had James and was currently holding him in maximum security in that very bunker. He was the one she had come to visit. Though her real political aspirations had never been as dramatic as reality had thrown her, she never really agreed with James on many of the important decisions on how to run the nation. However, she did have a respect for him and she felt obligated to speak to him, one last time.

The complex was incredibly large but developed, for the most part, under the surface. Sara had already traversed six stairwells and had another three to go to reach her destination. She realised as she was moving through the bunker, she wasn't as fit as she used to be as a bodyguard.

Almost ten minutes later, there was a click as the lock on the door to the Supreme Leader's cell opened. The left door, of a double door entrance, opened. Sara walked into the room and pulled up a chair to face the Supreme Leader, who was tied to a small metal chair, beaten and bruised. He lifted his head to look at her.

"Have you come to finish the task your minions began?" he asked.
"No James. Believe it or not, I don't want to kill you. It's an... unfortunate... necessity."
"Sara, do you really think I want to hear your bullshit?"
"Come on James, I have the greatest respect for you. You think I would have bothered having you captured, rather than killed, if I didn't? I could've just shot you, slipped you a poison whilst you slept."
"Please, kill me Sara. I can't put up with your annoying voice much longer."
"You shouldn't have said that James, I could make things a lot worse for you."
"Worse than being tied up, tortured, beaten, forced to listen to your ego-centric crap? I don't think you can think of something worse for me..."
"You know, I'm not planning on killing you yet. When you do die, it'll be three feet in front of Agent Aitkin, to crush his spirit before he makes a public apology and unfortunately, kills himself."
"He'll kill you."
"He's been unable to get near to me James. And believe me, he's spent months trying. He's losing resources and at an incredible rate. The public believe he is a traitor and he can't rally more support for his cause. When I run this nation..."

At that point, James lunged forwards, lifting the chair of the floor and headbutting Sara. Immediately security charged in and began beating James again. Soon, he was unconcious. From Sara's lip, blood dripped to the floor.

"When he wakes up, remove two of his toes." she ordered.

James blinked and then his eyes firmly closed again. He listened around to hear what was transpiring around him. He could hear someone breathing heavily and the faint sound of a guard patrolling in the hallway outside. He opened his eyes again, attempting to sneak a look around the room but the man was looking over him and he grabbed him, attempting to follow Sara's order.

"I'm sorry Sir. I've been ordered to remove two of your toes. Punishment for disobeying her."

The man pushed James backward and James realised he felt slightly numb. He had been drugged. The guard pulled a large tray of surgical instruments towards him and began browsing the assortment of tools.

He didn't, however, have time to choose before Sara burst into the room.

"Get him up, we need to move, fast." She ordered.
"Ma'am?"
"Sean's forces are approaching the building, we need to move to prevent any risk."

The door flew inwards as the explosives tore the area apart. Moments later, Sara's guards were at the scene, expecting an attack. They were, however, mistaken. The decoy explosion had pulled guards from the main entrance and Sean knew there were now only four in the lobby. Carefully sliding the door open slightly, he rolled in three flashbangs and shut the door again. Seconds later he heard the shouts of disorientation that were to be expected when you blinded and deafened four men with guns.

"Go!" Sean ordered and a group of twelve entered. They quickly began setting up a foothold inside the building, a barricade of sorts, blocking the main entrance. Once the makeshift defence was up, Sean radioed his second group.

"Bravo team, enter through the main entrance and wait at the barricade. Contact Delta Leader, order him to move towards the bombed entrance and to force him way through there. We'll rendezvous in the lobby once the building is clear."

Sean and his group began pushing forwards, splitting themselves two ways when they reached a stairwell. Sean took a team downstairs, towards the bunker system that he suspected would house a third, hidden exit and another group headed up the stairs.

It took less than three minutes for the first shots to ring out from above. Sean prayed that it wasnt one of his that was hit when the firing paused and carried on down the cold, metal platforms. He had counted almost 200 steps when he reached the metal blast door entrance to the bunker system. He took a hold of the wheel and turned it three times clockwise. A click signalled the door was unlocked and Sean pulled it back.

Two of his men were hit instantly with gun fire from inside the doorway. From their legs to their neck, covered in bullet holes. Sean and the other three members moved sideways to avoid being struck whilst the barrage of fire continued. After almost half a minute, the automatic fire stopped.

"They're reloading" assumed an agent as he pulled around the corner to fire. He was wrong. One man had to reload. The other was fully armed. Shots were exchanged and one from each side fell to the ground, dead. Sean and his partner both turned the corner and fired down the hallway, dispatching of the last man.

"Check and see if any of them made it" Sean ordered.

The other operative checked all of the bodies but none were still breathing. WIth a grim look on his face, he turned to Sean and simply shook his head.

"Shit."
"Sir, shall I radio for reinforcements?"
"By the time they get down here, half of these troops will have made it away. Radio air support, tell them to keep an eye out for any potential exits and, should they find one, destroy it."
"Yes Sir"

He carried out Sean's orders and together they moved on down the grey passage. The light seemed to grow dimmer with every turn and each room was empty. After almost five minutes, Sean heard talking.

"Charlie, I think we're at the end of the bunker system. Just down that hallway there are probably a large group of soldiers protecting the exit." Sean told him. "On my count, make a lot of noise and run back the way we came."
"Yes Sir."
"Go!"

Charlie jumped into the middle of the corridor, clearly visible to the other soldiers and screamed. He waited for them to see him then turned to run. Sure enough, three of the eight guards followed him. Sean, with his silenced pistol, shot all three. He then rolled a flashbang down the corridor again. He heard it go off and charged at the enemy, firing his sidearm. He managed to shoot three in no time at all but two had managed to get down the exit passage. They then turned their guns to him.

Bang. The rifle bullet tore into Sean's leg. Bang. His shoulder. Sean fell to the floor. Knowing full well that any movement would result in him being shot, he remained still; not that he felt up to standing anyway. The guards were clearly not convinced they'd killed him. They cautiously moved towards him to check.

One of them pushed his gun into Sean's back and Sean turned, knife in hand, and plunged it deep into the leg of the guard. In his other hand he had an SMG which he turned on the other guard, then the stabbed man, in turn.

Convinced they were dead, he rolled onto his back and let out a loud shout of pain.

His radio buzzed to life; "Sean, this is Air Cover Guardian, we located the exit of the tunnel but were forced to leave the area. Sara has planes in the air circling. Echo Squad managed to reach the location, however. They report that seven targets attempted to leave the building. Sara and James were there too. Echo brought down two of the guardss but were unable to pursue. Sean, they blew the tunnel entrance to stop them coming in. They're heading back your way."
"Acknowledged" Sean responded. He pulled himself to his feet on a metallic table beside him and lifted up a fully automatic assault rifle he had taken from a guard.

He was not in clear view from the tunnel and he knew he could gain the upper hand against the four hostiles. When he heard them coming, he steadied himself and his aim. He almost pitied the two guards who took the first steps into the room, they were cut down in seconds. The others crouched and held position just inside the tunnel.

Sean needed to draw them out. He was feeling weakened and couldn't go to them.

He pulled a dud grenade from his jacket and rolled it down the tunnel. He waited till he heard a noise and turned. Sure enough, the guard had lifted the grenade to throw it back and Sean shot him dead.

He lifted his gun to Sara's head but in that same space of time, she had reciprocated.

"You know Sean, I always thought it would end this way. Just us."
"Which one of us did you imagine would come out alive."
"There was always the pessimist in me that suspected we'd both die. But, most of the time, it was you that died in my head."
"Did you always suffer from delusions of Godhood?"
"I could ask you the same thing Sean."

They were interrupted by the return of Charlie from the tunnel.

"Sean?" He called out. Sara heard him and turned her gun down the tunnel, opening fire on Charlie.

"No!" Sean screamed before firing directly into Sara's chest for almost ten seconds.

He then moved, as quickly as he could, to the side of Charlie who, when he got there, was already dead. Sean rolled over to his back again and wept. He could hear the echos of footsteps on the stairs and he saw the legs of an agent running towards him.

"Sir, you're going to be ok." he said
"Don't worry about me," Sean told him "the Supreme Leader is just down that hallway. Get him out of here."
"Ok - Bravo team, go, get James and take him back up top. We'll also need a medical team in here for Sean."

It was at that point that Sean blacked out.
