Title: Mor'os i Tab on Mal
Post by: Mor'os on August 05, 2007, 07:19:32 PM
Quote
Honored rulers and representatives of the many nations of Taijitu,

In this 2218th year of Unification his Divinity and Son of Heaven Osmar Anson Dalēn, Emperor of Mor'os, extends to your honored persons a gracious and humble invitation. The Empire has recently seen great change, and has risen back into the stage of world events from a protracted era of self induced isolation and confinement. The Empire now pursues an outward and reaching look on the world instead now, and seeks to better know the many nations and peoples of this vast world. At the same time Mor'os wishes for the people of the world, who have seen as little of it as Mor'os has seen of them for so very long, to see Mor'os, both the new and the Empire's oldest and most treasured traditions, in the hope that the understanding to be found there will bode well for the future of the Empire and Taijitu as a whole.

Happy events also pace the Empire's realm. His Divinity and Son of Heaven Osmar Anson Dalēn, Emperor of Mor'os, has at last found a wife and future Empress for the Empire, and are to be wed soon. His Divinity and Son of Heaven Osmar Anson Dalēn, Emperor of Mor'os, would be greatly honored if your honored persons were to do  the Empire the favor of also being present at the conclusion of our exchange of cultures to view this momentous occasion for the nation.

His Divinity and Son of Heaven Osmar Anson Dalēn, Emperor of Mor'os, awaits your favorable reply.

"That's all the responses Chasmor?" said Osmar, looking to the Prime Minister.

"It would seem so," replied Chasmor, idly looking over one of the responses himself. "I would consider it a decent result your Divinity." Osmar nodded in agreement, and Chasmor continued. "The Uichi Ryuans seem concerned about security, and what you would appreciate as a wedding gift."

"Well, you certainly can assure them that they will be quite safe in Mor'os. And as for a wedding gift, I don't think that's for me to tell them. But anyway, not point keeping them or anyone else waiting. If you could, reply to them all and tell them that we'll expect them here in four days time, and they can arrive by plane at the Tenkad Airport. And I expect that someone should be there to greet them and transport them immediately here."

"Of course your Divinity, I'll see to it that the proper arrangements are made." said Chasmor, "Though, if I may ask, where would your Divinity wish for the guests to be brought in the palace?"

"The pavilion in the west gardens, please. I'm fond of the spot."

"Of course."

Ria looks at his watch. Looks like he made in time to the airport...

The floor of Bandana International Airport terminal was rather empty this evening, save a few janitors and security personnel. It seems with the vacation holiday over, there were less people taking late night flights. The best part about it all, there were no lines at check in.

Ria takes a seat by the window, the plastic bench creaking as he laid back. Through the window, he can see the lights of planes and vehicles moving about in the shadows of the night. In the distance, a passenger airliner sweeps down onto the runway, the roar of its engines a sharp whistle that disturbs the night air.

Bored with the scene, Ria turns back to the LCD screen above him, listing the flight status of his soon-to-arrive plane. Only twenty minutes to go...

Ria was more than excited when he found out he was assign to this IR mission. Finally, a chance to leave the office and meddle with foreign dignitaries while enjoying a glass of martini...a sure way to forget about the stresses of his job and love life. This will be the best vacation yet...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ria boards his plane, which was as empty as the terminal. A nice-looking flight attendant shows him to his first class seat.

"Will you like something to drink, sir?"

"A glass of lime juice will be fine, thank you."

The girl smiles, then walks away to the back of the plane. Ria leans back on the leather seat and closes his eyes. "Should I ask for her number?" Ria thought to himself. No, that will be stupid. Flight attendants don't make good dates, especially when they're flying around the world 24/7. Better to wait and check out on some local Mor'on girls instead...

Chirs Welsh boarded his plane. It was to take him to Moro'os to meet the Emperor of it. Chris settled down, knowing hes going to have a long flight ahead of him. His bodyguards, armed with Pump shotguns, just chilled out, drinking some water here and there. Chris closed his eyes and went to sleep.

STATE COMMUNICATIONS

To: The Empire of Mor'os
From: The State of Xyrael

We apologize for this late communication. We have been
unable to respond to your notification earlier. We are
sending a dignitary to your esteemed Empire as soon as
humanly possible. Please forgive us, and understand that
our nation's bureaucrats are still dealing with other
internal matters.

By the time the message had been typed and sent to Mor'os a VC-25A was already enroute, escorted by four Gripens. Aboard it were dozens of Internal Affairs personnel filing over data on Mor'os, and three Xyraeli emissaries, the superior of which was named Ital. Nearly thirty State Infantrymen sat patiently waiting to land, where they would watch over the plane for the duration of the emissaries stay.

Sabmon-sam stood in the terminal of Tenkad Airport, waiting for the arrivals with an entourage of limousines and their various drivers read to take the guests straight to the palace. Rocking back and forth between his toes and his heels, he smiled to himself, taking great pride in having been selected for such an important task as this, one. Greeting the various rulers of the world, his actions alone could decide the reputation of the Empire for all time! The thrill of it all...

Still, he could not help but consider that the airport did not exactly present a glorious welcome. Nowhere near completion, construction was visible and audible in every direction. The one terminal which was functional, the very one he was occupying, was even still in the process of having the finishing touches applied. He also secretly worried that the planes might all crash into another was they attempted to arrive on what limited runways there were.

At least he'd have a good view for the spectacle.

His mind wandered off to pondering a new matter, what he would be eating for dinner that evening...

Hanna was frustrated...

She had stood there for almost three hours straight while a small army of seamstresses were taking measures, fitting, re-measuring, sowing and re-fitting over and over again under the watchful eyes of her soon-to-be mother in law, who on top of everything, always found something new the hag wasn't satisfied with every single re-fitting of what was going to be Hanna's wedding dress... hopefully in time to the actual wedding.
She wished nothing more than that she and Osmar would be able to run away from all theese petty and stuck-up ceremonies. She knew that the wish was vain, it was impossible considdering the duties of her fiancé, and part of her liked the excitement and expectations that were rising for each day even though she wouldn't admit that to anyone just yet.

Ria arrives in Mo'ros' international airport. Once securing his land luggage and departing from the gate, he proceed to the area where Mo'ron personnel will pick him up. Outside the glass doors, he could see a fleet of limousines with  dozens of black suits standing guard.

"Wow, these guys really over did it..."

Sabmon-sam was in the middle of wondering what it would be like if he were to take some time off in Sēkad Province, rocking back and forth on his feet with as much intensity as ever, when Ria arrived. Automatically his mind's thoughts and musings reset and focused in on the sole and momentous task of greeting the new arrival in a manner which would reflect well on the Empire and on the Emperor, on his Family and his Ministry and just about every person that had or would ever come in contact with his person.

With what he hoped was a friendly and welcoming expression on his face he walked forward and bowed deeply, right fist placed against his open left palm in front of himself.

"Welcome, welcome," he said with a note of ill contained excitement with a Mor'osi accent. "Welcome to Mor'os. We are so g'lad zat you have done us ze honor of your p'resen'ce. P'lease," he motioned to the nearest vehicle. "If you are ready we may leave for ze palace at any time."

Ria tries hard to replicate the greeting of the Mo'ron representative. These foreigners have such strange customs...

"Thank you...oh, you didn't give me your name! So rude of me as well, I am Jia Reng of the Wen. What's yours?"

oc: Did you do a martial hand greeting? Such stereotypes  :D! I'm off to bed, you can take him to the palace and do what ever.

OOC: Yep, it's a bow which I myself am very familiar with from taking Kung Fu and find nifty, so I decided to incorporate it into the Mor'osi system of bowing, a long standing tradition which has been around since I made it up a few days ago. :P

IC: "My name is Yhauzhī Sabmon, and I am very g'lad to meet you Jia Reng of the Wen. I'm certain his Divinity will be as well. Ah!" Sabmon's face lit up with yet more excitement and joy at the sight of new visitors and a chance to perform his task more beautifully still. "Welcome, welcome to Mor'os gues't's. P'lease, as you can see we have car's already ready for you." he said, repeating the same bow he had just give to Levana and Welsh in turn. "I am certain zat you being here will be g'reat news to his Divinity."

Finally, the fitting was done for this time and most of the day was gone, the afternoon sun hanging low in the west. Hanna was exhausted, still, there was things to do before she could allow herself to relax. First of all, a well needed shower. As she stood in there, feeling the temperate water flowing down her body, she thought of the things that had happened around and to her in her life, she realized it was starting to become hard to remember anything that happened before she and the others had crashed on Taijitu, not only had a lot of new things happened, but she also felt as if she had changed. When she had left her fathers Empire, no, Her empire, she had been a frightened, scarred but all too proud young woman and now, she was completely changed, the nightmares of the incinerated world she had left behind had faded and ceased, her temper had calmed considderably and her pride had been humbled. Yet, she was more secure in herself and unlike back then, she would not let herself be manipulated, not again. And now, she had Osmar, her timid, yet determined fiancé, Osmar, yes, he was very special, very special indeed, one who led by example, without any desire for power of it's own sake. On top of that, he was very special for her, caring and gentle while just as independent as she herself was, also, there was his more physical qualities... His martial arts training had endowed him with a body that surely earned the title of 'his divinity', something Hanna was not going to be one to complain about, especially not with the stamina he had shown so far.

She rolled her eyes as the mist inside the shower rose around her and she took some extra time to let off some steam of her own. ::)

Richard Black was not happy about being forced to go to some wedding in a country with a funny name. His brother the Prime Minister was off at some conference in Xyrael and had basicly blackmailed Richard into agreeing to go to the wedding. It was good that Francis had given him the wedding gift or he might have just brought them a Monkey or something.

"Mr. Black we are approaching Mor'os."

"Good the faster i get this over with the better!"

 "very well Mr. Black."

The aircraft touched down with precision and outwalked a rather clean cut Richard wearing a black silk suit. his assistants and guards carried his luggage and the wedding gift of assorted coffee, tea and dried fruits.

Sabmon watched in satisfaction as the first set of guests pulled out of the airport in their limousines, bound for the palace, content with himself for a job well done. The rest was short lived though, as Black's arrival posed yet more work to be done. Sabmon turned around to face the approaching Uichi Ryuan, self consciously taking a moment to straighten his hair out and dust off his shirt. With a practiced precision, he repeated once again the motions of greeting with which he had presented himself to the others.

"Welcome, welcome to Mor'os," he said as he bowed low to Black. "His Divinity will be so glad zat you are here. P'lease, we already have t'rans'portation to take you to the Palace."

At the Palace, Osmar was on edge, filled with a rather unpleasant mixture of expectant excitement and nervous trepidation at what was soon to come. A call had come from the airport some time ago, five minutes, ten minutes, he was not entirely sure, reporting the arrival of the first guests and their departure for the Palace. He now stood, waiting, in the center of the plaza that the newly constructed Palace's southern gate opened into. Accompanying him was the Prime Minister Chasmor and his good friend the Imperial Inspector Shausil, the Imperial Censor and the assorted Ministers of the Ministries. It was a sizable group, but much smaller than what one would have seen not but a decade ago. Most of them had opted for their full regalia, jackets and robes that brushed the ground and hung off the arms in large folds tied about with sashes. Osmar for his own part had chosen not to wear the full formal dress of the Emperor. Instead, he had chosen a relatively simply, though of good quality, set of a red and gold shirt and pants, secured with a sash. He was trying to calculate how long the journey from the airport to the Palace would take. He was also wondering where Hanna was. She was supposed to be present. No doubt she had found herself lost in the swirl of events and ceremonies for the wedding, which only grew more intense as the day came closer and closer, as he had himself on many occasions.

As the thought passed, Hanna silently slid up beside her fiancé. She smelled faintly of lotus perfume and wore a long red dress of matted silk, a thin golden belt and her long black hair tied up into a pony tail with a gold ribbon.

"I hope you didn't have to wait too long my love, I got a bit side tracked on my way here."

"Ah, Hanna-cham," said Osmar, smiling now that she was here. "You are here. An'd," he added slightly sheepishly, "you look wonderful. An'd jus't in time." Indeed, the sound of the approach of the first expected limousine was already audible, and growing rapidly in strength. "You remember what I taught you?" Hanna nodded. "Man man." Osmar finally concluded as he straightened up and turned to face where the first vehicle had pulled up and Ria had just stepped out.

"Welcome," said Osmar in a fashion similar to Sabmon as he himself bowed, except with his left hand clasping the right. The rest meanwhile mimicked Sabmon's bow with the exception of Hanna, who instead bowed with her hands placed on either leg as Osmar had instructed her to do. Her lack of familiarity with this form of greeting showed slightly. "I am Osmar Anson Dalēn. This is Lelpak Sillen Chasmor, Prime Minister, this is Delmar Rav'ong Shausil, Imperial Inspector, and this is Dongtang Kauū Senguch, Imperial Censor. An'd zis," he said with finality and a loving smile, "Is Hanna, my fiance. P'lease, what is ze name of our fir's't gues't?"

"i'm supposed to tell you a bunch of nice things and give you this gift."

Hanna's smile faded a bit, to something that was evidently glued-on and out of habit. The Taijituan who stood before them the probable cause of her discontentment. Still, she clenched her teeth to keep her tounge from slipping, she would not give this insolent prick the pleasure of causing an international incident. Out of habit and trained reflexes, her hand unconciously moved to where her chainsword used to be but the familiar comfort of it's perfectly molded grip was not there. She had placed it with some, probably ancient, and finely crafted Mor'osi swords on a stand in her chambers.

Chancellor Ariel Levana got an urgent phone call calling him to come back to Saletsia. He went to the Mor'osis: "I am very sorry that I have to return now but Saletsia is currently having some political troubles. I thank you for your hospitality and wish you and yours the best. Here is our present," giving a Din-A3 size map of Saletsia made of ivory in which Mor'os was made of a rather big emerald.
"I hope you like it."
After that Ariel said goodbye to all other representatives except the Ozian delegate he was happy not to see.
He then got driven to the airport from which his private plane took off heading for Bandana.

"Ah..." said Osmar, who unlike Hanna found himself more stunned than angry at the Uichi Ryuan representative, as he in a daze took the basket from Black's hands. "Sank you for ze gif't..." he continued, lost in a foggy daze. "Welcome to Mor'os..." Without looking away he handed the basket over to the Imperial Censor who likewise did not look away as he gripped it.

"Zough," Osmar finally said as he began to reassert his scattered senses and wits, "I would not call marriage a mistake. Ze continuation of one's family name and line is one of ze fir's't mos't duties of any person." He stopped as the Levana spoke now. Osmar frowned at what he heard.

"T'ruly? But we have only jus't met. S'till, if you mus't go I cannot detain you." Osmar bowed once again, but this time as a goodbye rather than a greeting. Like clockwork the rest of the delegation followed his example. "Safe journey."

Hanna's eyes shifted from a look of pure, unconcealed, hate on Richard's back to one of cold dissapointment and hurt at Osmar while the latter notices something new and vaguely disturbing about his choosen one as he hears her accusing thoughts as if her voice spoke directly inside his mind. Her lips unmoving and nobody else noticing but her eyes punctuating every single syllable.

If you don't handle these insolent excuses for guests without delay I will handle it myself and I don't think that's the kind of international reputation either of us wants for Mor'os.

Lieutenant Tanya, Hanna's only remaining bodyguard, stepped out from behind the curtains, fully suited in her armour to do her misstress's bidding, taking up position just behind her protegé, the servos of the armour's actuators humming softly and vapour rising from it's exhausts. The insect-like eyepieces on the visor gleamed threateningly red in the early evening sun as Tanya surveyed the people on and below the stairs, switching between vision modes to search for hidden heat sources along the roof tops of the city and along the closest street corners, all just in case. At her left side hung one of the chainswords left behind by the others and at her right hung an assault rifle in a short sling draped beneath her right shoulder pad.

This was the first time anyone present saw a power armour besides the few Mor'osi who had been there when Hanna and her exiles arrived in the city.

This time when Richard spoke there was no initial shock for Osmar. The first time he had done so had already done away with that, not to mention that this particular comment had now involved direct mention of Hanna. Instead he felt a terrible and powerful mixture of disgust and anger and he was not afraid to let his face show it. But like Hanna he held his tongue and let Black leave. The sooner he was away from him the better, and Osmar had no intent of holding him with any form of discussion.

"Vī ha kosh dī ret za... swore Osmar under his breath. Then, audibly, he spoke again. "Chasmor-sam."

"So?" replied the Prime Minister promptly.

"Kar ha ūme dē lin dī lo. Es dī sī ven... Osmar paused to allow his face one final angry tick before finishing. "Gai i. Ras us."

The Prime Minister nodded with an expression that indicated he agreed fully with whatever it was that the young emperor had just said and without saying anything walked off. As if nothing had happened, Osmar turned his attentions to Ria.

"Yes, we probably should begin. I was hoping zat zere would be more, we certainly got more replies. But I suppose zis jus't mean's more attention for your needs. P'lease, zis way." he said as he began to walk. "Min'd you today is not the wedding. Zat begin's tomorrow, zough zere is p'rivate p'reparation on my par't and Hanna's tonight. Ria noted the big man in his strange outfit. Nice costume....wonder if the wedding party requires one?

"A tour will be great, I'm looking forward to exploring your country. So much interesting things and differences from my home." Ria replies.

"Yes," said Osmar with a smile and a nod as he continued to walk, his mood returning to positive now that Black had left their company, "I can only imagine what it is like where you have come f'rom. I have never been outside of zis nation. I hope to one day. But," he said as he caught himself on the precipice of a dangerous tangent that might lead his mind like an ill willed willow the wisp to a murky demise "back to what I showing you here. It would not be good of me to get your curiosity and zen not do anysing for it.

"Zis com'p'lex as you may have already seen is quite large. It does not jus't house the palace where I mysel'f live and wor'k f'rom. All of ze organ's of ze Imperial governmen't are here. If you look to your lef't in fac't," he said as he motioned in the said direction "You will see several buildings which house ze Minis't'ries. Ze Minis'ter's are appoin'ted by mysel'f an'd ze P'rime Minister. We do not have time to visit all of zem. They are boring anyway. In's'tead we will be going ahead to ze Assembly of Petitioners to take a closer look at zat.

"Also," continued Osmar as he plucked a random bit of trivia to keep the conversation moving as they walked on. "Zis is not in fac't any of ze original palace zat was once here. Zat building was bur'ned to ze g'roun'd by ze Nobles in a las't bid for power before zey were undone."

Following her betrowed closely, Hanna sensed that the sleezebag that introduced himself as Black was getting further and further away, causing the coldness in her eyes and posture to soften to normal.
As the tour started, Tanya removed her helmet and fell in at the rear of the column as she let her long black hair out and assumed a more comfortable stance of readyness, letting the helmet dangle from it's chain.

"In fac't," Osmar went on, digging deep into his stores of off hand knowledge at this point, "I am not sure how much of zat palace was even original. Con'f'lic't has occured all to often in zis coun't'ry as in mos't over time, an'd fire is a very real and alway's p'resen't danger too. Certainly zis entire city and ozer's have bur'ned dow,n on several times."

Osmar cut from his talk at this point. Rather than have to admit to himself that he had already run out of things to say so very quickly he instead decided in secret with himself that he was doing it to give their guest time to look around and focus there rather than on what he was saying. Besides, it wasn't even much of a pause to begin with. At the decent they had been walking they were already closing in on their destination, the Assemby of Petitioners. The building's architecture certainly carried a about itself and its form a feel of legislature, the circular construction that distinguished so many law making bodies meeting chamber. This modern concern and development helped the structure to stand out against the rest of the complex, despite the same appeal to tradition that its design represented in many ways.

"Zat," said Osmar, now talking once again that he had a very obvious and clear point of conversation "Is ze Yhessos, ze elec'ted legis'lature. Ze current membership was jus't elec'ted in ze very fir's't election's ever to be hel'd in zis nation. Ze peop'le have alway's in theory been able to f'reely petition ze gover'n'men't wis zeir concer'n's but in p'ractice it has not worked out an'd been manipulated. Zis body p'rovides a formal way for ze peoples concer'n's to be direc't'ly b'rought to ze gover'n'men't."

"We have something similar in my country..."

Ria's cellphone rang. He looks at the caller display, it was a private number.

"Excuse me one moment...Hello?"
.....
"What?...No...this is a joke right???...who is this?...PRL Embassy of Canada?...wha..."

Ria couldn't believe what the man was telling him. His knees went weak and he tumbles onto the floor.

"Heaven..."

His heart was beating hard and fast, his breath panting and his face twisted in shock.

"Oh fuck....FUCK!"

A murmur passed amongst the ministers at the spectacle unfolding itself in front of them. Quite clearly something bad was afoot, as the abrupt departure of the Salestian representative had hinted. This confirmed it outright. Osmar too took notice, both shocked and curious to find out what the commotion's cause was.

"What...is it?" he asked, cautious about prying into a matter which had caused Ria such apparent emotional turmoil.

"What?!" exclaimed Osmar alongside the sound of yet more stir among the Ministers, his face now a mirror of Ria's own shock and horror. "What, what... it escalated zat fas't..." Osmar found himself tripping over his own tongue, at a complete loss at what to do with still so much unknown and a sobbing Ria, whose presence gave the news of what he had just been told a very real and powerful presence.

"Maybe you would like to sit or lie down?" asked Osmar, unable to think of anything else he could do for the man if what he was hearing was true.

There was a collective gasp as Ria collapsed on the ground, followed by a significant period of stunned inaction. Osmar finally spoke with a voice whose former confidence had been replaced with confusion and doubt.

"Kar-sam on zim i lī sai al lhisun..." his voiced faded into empty space as he reached the end of the sentence, his mind attempting to come to grips with what had just happened. Regardless a trio of the three most immediate Ministers reacted immediately to the command, lifting the stricken Ria from the ground between them and walked off rapidly in the direction of the room which had been put aside earlier for the guest. The others meanwhile looked to Osmar for further instruction.J

"Fal he. Jē gī dī sī sai..." again the response was immediate despite the growing weakness of the Emperor's voice. As they scattered into the Imperial complex in all directions, back into the mysterious crevices from which they had first crawled up, Osmar drew his hands down across his face in exasperation.

Following Ria's collapse, everything that had been scheduled for the rest of the day was canceled, with the exception of those preparations necessary for the wedding. The event simply could not be delayed any longer. To do so risked breeding concern and unease in the people. What sort of pathetic and haphazard government could not even carry through with the age old and established ceremony of a wedding? To that end Osmar and Hanna had gone their separate ways to opposite ends of the palace. Tradition forbade them from seeing one another's faces until they were married; they were once again strangers to one another and for the marriage to be complete and uncorrupted they could only know one another as an eternally bound couple.

Whether Hanna had immediately undertaken those preparations necessary the evening before the wedding Osmar did not know. What he did know was that he certainly did. Instead his first and most immediate concern was obtaining a full and complete update on just what had transpired so quickly. The news was twice as unpleasant and horrific when presented in detail. Yet worst of all was the knowledge that in the face of such an enemy that there was little that Osmar or even the entirety of Mor'os could do, certainly not at a great cost or without presenting an unacceptable obstruction to the completion of the wedding which the people of the country had been promised and had waited for so long. He'd also just before finally  retiring for the night heard from the Palace's resident doctor on Ria's condition. The doctor was of the opinion that Ria would be fine, and simply needed rest.

Now as dusk set in and the sun began to sink below the horizon to the chorus of nocturnal insects he sat himself down on his bed, a box which he had received just minutes ago in his hands. But he did not open it immediately. Instead he sat there, running the thoughts again and again through his head. He found himself incredibly frustrated. All the planning and expectations that had gone into this event had been dashed to bits by a completely unnecessary twist of international politics. It was not the best atmosphere under which to hold such an event, and he had also had great expectations of the evening's previously scheduled performance of Kuz on Yho.

With a protracted sigh Osmar at last decided that he was accomplishing little, and that there were things that still had to be done. Undoing the clasp he opened the box on his lap and drew from it a mask, a finely crafted and lacquered heavily stylized personification of the sun, as well as the hooded cap which worn together with the mask would completely obscure the head. It was one of a binary set, the other half having been designed to represent the moon and to be worn by Hanna. Osmar turned the mask over in his hands, a final reflection on what was just around the corner.

But again, little was being accomplished and so much needed to be. Placing the mask almost reverently upon the table Osmar moved to perform the necessary prayers before sleeping.

Completely inexperienced in these matters and only able to listen with half an ear to her future mother in law's rant-mixed instructions before, Hanna took comfort in the elder woman's presence, guiding her through the meticulous preparations.

Slowly but steadily, the ancient rituals were completed as the night passed. Hanna was first thoroughly cleaned with scented oils and balms from head to toe. Then layer after layer of her wedding dress was draped on her, each layer covering a little more. Finally, she her skin was completely covered in white and silver, from the stylised silver moon of her mask to the long silk gloves that covered her arms and the thin dress that covered her skin while accentuating and her feminine forms in an amazing display of creases and folds, all of it white as the first snow in the mountains.

As the dawn rose, she was too tiered to be nervous but she was ready and awake enough to be able to perform her part in this play to the letter.

Osmar blinked. He recognized where he was. This was the very top of the Anmīz Pagoda where he had stood on so many occasions before, surveying the land stretched out before him like a map with his wandering eye. The sun was setting in the west, the event which had often been the central attraction of the view afforded by the structure's height, and the rising chirps and squeals of the night's insect population were clearly audible. It was a very peaceful scene all together, and it was that peace which made the activity such a common one of Osmar's. Like nearly everyone else on the planet he needed some time to get away from it all and simply allow himself to do nothing and to think of nothing.

Still, there was something not quite right about the whole scene. It seemed to be all in order, but something at the back of his senses was still not satisfied. He closed his eyes and listened, not to the crickets and to the cicadas but to the other sounds, of the city below, of the wind...

It wasn't there, simply vanished. What was wrong with the scene was now quite obvious, even if why something was this terrible off to begin with was still a mystery. Deciding that it would be prudent to investigate just what had happened Osmar turned around and stepped onto where the stairs down to the ground should have been...

...and fell into nothing.

Osmar opened his eyes, but did not sit up. The earliest streaks of sunlight were coming in through window, and the first birds and sounds of the city were faint in the distance but still there. Osmar closed his eyes again, seeing the darkness of the looming pit again and listened to wind, and was delighted to hear it. This was reality, and there were things to do.

Now rising from his bed he set about preparing what parts he could on his own. Washing himself clean, putting his hair in order, donning the very first of his formal and ever so formal looking costume for the wedding. Those parts which required or were best done with the aid of another would be completed soon, as several servants were doubtlessly already on their way to aid in the numerous preparations for what was to come.
Posted on: September 02, 2007, 09:59:32 AM
"Man us don don īn se?" asked one of the three servants that now stood in a semicircle around Osmar's person as he made several adjustments to the mask and cap now blocking every inch of the Emperor's head from sight.

"So..." muttered Osmar, preoccupied with the other servant who was doing some arcane but apparently vital preparation of his right sleeve. Though Osmar would not say it, he dearly wished that the man would finish the task soon. Holding his arm parallel from his body for such a long period was dreadfully uncomfortable and going through the entire wedding with an arm which had completely cramped up and gone numb was something that he wanted to avoid. Still, he was thankful that the servant to his left had chosen to attend to some other part of his outfit that did not require him to put his body into any unnatural and uncomfortable position.

"Am..." said the first of the servants as he stood back to give his handiwork one final review. Satisfied, he turned to the servant at the right and said "Shauzhī-sam, tle yo us sī sī īn?"

"Cho dal tai sai..." he muttered as he gave one final tug of an unknown purpose. "Zha, dek. Morsen-sam?"

"Ad dek," replied the third with a distinct tone of finality as he stood up from one last touch up of his own of Osmar's sash. "Om sū dek." he added with a satisfied smile as he stepped back in tandem with the two others from the Emperor. Osmar meanwhile peered through the slits of the mask at his reflection in the mirror, or at least what he could make of it. From what he could see it certainly was aesthetically pleasing, in particular the jacket which was draped over his robes, if not the most comfortable item of clothing that he had ever worn.

"Hot on mon sū?" asked Osmar as he shifted slightly to get a better look at the outfits overall appearence.

"Vī-dav dī jas us tai." answered the servant on his left.

"Zha rū dī rī."

Outside in the courtyard another assembly was gathered, as was the standard for this sort of occasion. The Palace as it happened was outfitted with its own temple where the ceremony was to be held. However tradition demanded that the soon to be wed couple be paraded through the streets on their way to the temple, accompanied by a throng of followers making every sort of hullaballoo that they could tax their imaginations to think of. And as an Imperial wedding was the most important wedding there was it was absolutely necessary that the proper operations be attended to in carrying it out. And so for every wedding of the emperor the procession had set out, a horde of the the numerous members of the Palace staff who seemed to at this point able to survive solely within the sprawling complex in some sort of surreal self contained ecosystem, and so it would this time around. To the noise that the staff provided with gongs and noisemakers and firecrackers and hollers would those provided by the adoring and eager crowds that already would be gathered expectantly along the sides of the roads outside of the south gate and around clockwise to the north gate by which the temple was located, the chosen route  for the parade.

Already it was inevitably noisy, the collective chatter of untold hundreds. But it all fell silent with an indoctrinated rapidity as Osmar stepped out from the Palace into the glare of the morning light, and several hundred pairs of eyes all turned to face him.

Not long after, he was joined by Hanna, dressed completely in white, with the moon-faced mask covering her face, the metal of the mask reflecting the light of the new day.
Behind her mask though, Hanna was so nervous she wanted to turn and run, the only stronger force was her curiosity and love for Osmar, urging her to follow this through, so follow it through she did. One thing out of the ordinary had she managed to coherce her future mother in law to allow, and as she and Osmar started to walk, they were joined, on either side, by Sasha and Nikolai, Hanna's two tigers. The white tigress Sasha slowly and majestically walking outside and behind Hanna, while the almost golden Nikolai matched his mate's step and gait behind Osmar.

Osmar could not of course see Hanna's face behind her mask as they walked towards the southern gates, at this moment still firmly closed. But he knew that she was reciprocating his own smile, hidden from her view behind his own mask. Or at least his imagination had convinced him that she was smiling in an effort to make sure that the occassion entirely and truly lived up to the optimistic expectations of it that he had build up with in his mind, despite the natural unease and pressure that he felt now that the time was actually upon him and Hanna. Osmar did his best to keep worries of what might go wrong at the back of his mind and out of the sight of his mind's eye. Everything will be perfectly fine he told himself repeatedly, the mantra assuming a rythm that matched his own footsteps on the cobblestones. Looking at Nicolai and Sasha who had joined the parade in an impromptu fashion he tried to think back to whether or not this was to be taken as a good or poor omen of events to come. The tiger was generally an animal which was viewed in a positive light, but there were two now, and one of them was of a distinct white coloring. Did that change the outcome at all?

He was forced to abandon his line of thought as the gates before them at last stirred into life with protracted and noisy groan. Like a wave the cheers and cries of those outside flooded through the opening, rolling over the procession and growing with steady intensity as they drew closer and as more and more realized just what was happening until at last the volume peaked and held steady, an unending stream of adulations and celebration from the vast crowd pressed against the street on either. With a confident dignity the parade moved into this gauntlet of popular adoration as the Palace staff now swung into full action themselves, adding to the tremendous noise their own din, bashing drums and cymbals and whirling about noisemakers and lighting firecrackers as they shouted as loudly as their voices would permit them to. At no point did this celebratory haphazard orchestra, intermittently disturbed by actual coherent music, let up as together Osmar and Hanna walked down the street. Life had come to a standstill in Keūr for this event, and as the television cameras rolled so did it all across the country, from the port city Daang to the lonely salt flats of Sēkad and back to the paddies of Ūgok. Once he had grown acustomed to the sounds walking gave Osmar more time to think, and as they rounded the first turn and walked along the western edge of the Palace he found himself close to overwhelmed that his person and that of Hanna could hold such sway over so many people over such a wide distance. In some ways it was exhilarating, and in others it was frightening.

The parade in time turned the second corner and walked along the northern wall towards the gate at which point it would reenter. The volume in Osmar's mind seemed to increase in this point, even if it had not physically, as the climax of this small but integral part of the ceremony neared its conclusion. Perhaps the people really were cheering with increased vigor now, eager to get in every last thing that they could before the soon to be wedded coupled retreated back into the Palace and was lost from sight.

Returning to the complex from which they had departed the sound of those folk who had lined the roadways was cut short rather abruptly as the northern gates closed behind them firmly. The Palace staff though, who had returned with them back to their natural environ, continued in earnest to disturb the peace and calm of the day, some even more so than before, uncomfortably conscious of the sudden lack of volume that the loss of the crowds entailed. The temple in which Osmar and Hanna would be finally wed was shortly visible. Osmar would have liked to think that they their marriage would be taking place in a centuries old building, firmly rooted in the tradition and strength of the Empire. But the original Ancestral Temple had been burned to ash and dust with the rest of the palace and this was only an imitation of the original, albeit a decent one. That it was the original, having stood in its place for as long as history could recall, would have been a passable falsehood to anyone who did not know otherwise. While the temple may have been young by the standards of structures and buildings, the priest who stood in waiting for the couple was quite old by the standards of human beings. The Palace staff now at last ceased their noisemaking. The old priest for his part appeared to be at a happy sort of peace, and cracked his wrinkled visage with a smile as he looked at Osmar and Hanna as the two broke from the others and stepped forward.

"Rīgeng se," he said, bowing. Osmar and Hanna both returned the gesture. When they had risen back to standing the priest spoke again. "Tash us vaul īn?" he said, looking with intent at Osmar.

"So." answered Osmar with a slight nod. The priest now looked at Hanna.

"So." she said, mimicking Osmar. The priest nodded .

"Sem e sat dī lau sai." he said and turned about, leading the two and the others in tow behind into the temple. The interior of the temple had been reconstructed in great detail just as the exterior had, every classical element of style and design preserved. The decor strode the no man's land between austere and outright over the top, resulting in an effect which was at once impressive and slightly eery. While the others, guests, friends, family and the sort that usually showed up on these sorts of occasions, filed to either side and settled themselves upon the floor Hanna and Osmar followed the priest directly to the front of the room, which drew attention to itself with the alter positioned there. It seemed an almost impenitrable clutter of statues of various gods and spirits, candles and incense and written seals and prayers. Whether they were arranged in an attempt to achieve some occult goal or simply by chance alone was impossible to tell. It was before this altar, with the priest in front of them, that Hanna and Osmar stopped, waiting for the Priest's instructions in the well practiced and predetermined routine.

"Jī dī goch sai," intoned the Priest in a fashion that made the number of times he had said the same words in the very same situation apparent. Osmar and Hanna complied, bowing.

"Kang dī goch sai," intoned the Priest with the same tone and prosody, and again the couple bowed.

"Ten dī goch sai." Another command from the Priest and a third pair of bows.

"Kaz dī goch sai." This time the two spun around to face those assembled before bowing and then promptly turning back to face the Priest. The Priest kneeled, and Osmar and Hanna followed suit. Without hesitation the elderly man broke into a prayer of the chant variety, moving his thumb back and forth across his fingers as he counted the verses of one by one in an unnecessary habitual mnemonic, rendered vestigial by the great weight of experience. Osmar for his moved his own fingers within the copious folds of his sleeves, but for the sake of nervousness rather than memory. He was not sure how long the chanted prayer went on for. It might have been very brief, but the gravitas of the moment made it seem as if it had gone over and over for several eternities before it suddenly broke, the loss of the monotonous acoustic backdrop quickly catching everyone's attention. The trio at the front of the room rose from their knees, and the two for whose sake the ceremony was being staged faced one another.

Now it was Osmar's turn to remember, specifically the wedding vows he had prepared for the moment. They were not particular lengthy; Mor'osi wedding procedures placed emphasis on the build up the happy day instead and almost seemed to rush through the final ceremony in an attempt to get at the food and drink that the subsequent banquet was to provide. He'd gone over them flawlessly before with himself a thousand times before. But the task grew infinitelly more difficult in the presence of an audience.

"Dalēn Anson Delmar al Rassen Shaulil Zhaumu on zhī on sēv-cham sū vī-sam ha las al mam al vī-sam id fūr dī lhak. Boh vī-sam dī ad mam al zhīn'av us sī." He concluded the last sentence with a sigh of relief at having said what needed to be and at having done so without fault.

Now it was Hanna's turn. She had against her the additional barrier of language, despite her impressive progress in the past several months as a result of the complete immersion that she faced. Osmar could not help but wonder what expression she wore on her face, and held his breath.

"Arteus Erik al Sabina on mu," she began, carefully articulating the words with precision and a moment of painful memorance as she spoke the names of her late parents. "vī-sam ha om on tok dal las al vī-sam dē dī lhak. Vī-sam dī lēch bu al mūz tok dal mam. Jas on pas sū sēv sēv-cham ha chab dī ab, she finished, like Osmar reciting her lines without a hitch. Osmar exhaled and smiled behind his mask. The priest, satisfied that everything had been conducted properly, produced a box and drew back the lid. Osmar reached in and withdrew a silken strand while Hanna lifted and presented her left wrist.

Intoning his next prescribed set of lines, Osmar spoke as he tied the silken strand around Hanna's wrist. "["Sēv sēv-cham on yhīn al av ha hītsī on rach.". The same set of actions was now repeated in reverse, with Hanna drawing a section of thin white rope from box while Osmar presented his right wrist.

""Sēv sēv-cham on kor al nol ha hītsī on nah.". she said, tieing the rope around Osmar's wrist. The section of the ceremony completed the two stepped back from one another, and the priest again intervened.

"Hem on fū wo keng on dī tah al shem-sam al shem-sam on kaz-sam ha ben dī tom. Zhoi kengsun sū ong dī kesh sai... Both Osmar and Hanna complied, and a timed passed in darkness for both as the priest removed first Osmar's mask and then Hanna's.

"Ong dī eng sai... said the priest with a sincere tone of happiness in his voice. Osmar opened his eyes, and looked at the smiling face of Hanna, which seemed more beautiful than ever, and returned her smile with an enthusiastic one of his own.Instinctively the two embraced one another and kissed, wed to one another as husband and wife at last. The assembled noisily voiced their own approval and joy, Osmar's mother in tears, though how much of it was for the new couple and how much of it was for the prospect of the banquet which would now commence was unclear.
