Eluvataran Colonization
« on: February 18, 2007, 11:03:31 PM »

Ensign Ælar SulBenn watched as the heavily wooded land approached. He wondered why the Presiding Steward had decided that it was so urgent to take this land, but guessed that it had something to do with the Tea the upper classes in Eluvatar so wanted. In any case, the Halls of the Stewards had declared this great subcontinent to be part of the Royal Confederacy and Presiding Steward Beregond ArFinn had ordered the 26th fleet to establish the colony. A few days ago they had left a well-supplied contingent at Amroth, that frozen island. He hoped the engineers were up to the task of constructing the fort on that icy outcrop. But that was not his problem, his problem was worrying about the ticks, mosquitoes, and other creatures they were sure to find in this practically antarctic forest.

OOC: SulBenn is arriving at the new Pelargir Colony marked in dark purple on the map.

Proud Constitutionalist

When the government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.

Tyrants from Hitler to Mao to Stalin have sought to disarm their own citizens, for the simple reason that unarmed people are easier to control.

A few days later...

Ælar's worst nightmare had come to pass. There were ticks here, ticks with some strange disease that looked like the flu at first and then got rapidly worse. His stock of penicillin was starting to run short and they had signalled home for more, in the mean time he had to demand that all personell be required to wear long pants and long sleeves when going outdoors, as well as tucking their pants into their socks. Additionally they were now required to change immediately after coming back inside and shower. Fortunately the clear and clean lake they had encamped by had plenty of water. He had signalled to the other camps to begin instituting similar precautions.

Key:
  • A Ship with a number in it represents that numbered Eluvataran fleet.
  • A golden X represents an Eluvataran encampment.

All of the camps were dealing with the problem of the Ticks and the disease Ælar had decided to call "Lemon Disease" due to the usefulness of lemon tea in dealing with it was being contained. The 26th fleet in the mean time was surveying the island off shore...

Lieutenant Ëaronwë looked dubiously at the island as his landing craft approached. It looked pretty bleak, covered in those dark firs as thick as the hair of a hare. Wait, was that a thin column of smoke coming from that tiny inlet? "Steer that way Sargeant" he shouted. "I think there may be natives!" This would be interesting...

The boat reached shore to be greeted by a pleasantly waving group of natives waving colorful ribbons of cloth. Ëaronwë wondered where the cloth came from on this decidedly un-colorful island but was soon distracted by the natives' cheerful jabbering in a tongue he could not comprehend. He waved to them cheerfully as well. Another crowd of them emerged from the forest carrying a large dead beast and quickly set up a fire. The natives gestured cheerfully and soon they were presenting the crew with delicious meat. Ëaronwë, tasting it, felt like he was in heaven. Soon they went to sleep...

...And the next day they awoke itching all over. Great big welts covered their skin and they experienced terrible pain. The concerned natives, wide-eyed and whispering among themselves, helped them get back on the boat. They headed back to the base where Medical Ensign Ælar awaited.
