People could never pronounce his real name - it was one of those really long Polish-sounding ones, so we shortened it to Panda. I doubt he'd actually be considered competition, though. Technically, even though he was one really hairy guy, that isn't the same as bonafide fur. And he definitely wasn't cute OR cuddly. :-P

The difference I saw, though, was that PUR punned her unique name, not "pur" like the sound a cat makes. Maybe it's nit-picky, but it made a difference to me. ;D
