This is an off-topic thread.  DON'T POST ANYTHING ON-TOPIC.  Seriously.  Don't even think about it.

White hole
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
For the Red Dwarf episode, see White Hole (Red Dwarf episode).
In astrophysics, a white hole is the time reversal of a black hole. While a black hole acts as an absorber for any matter that crosses the event horizon, a white hole acts as a source that ejects matter from its event horizon. The sign of the acceleration is invariant under time reversal, so both black and white holes attract matter. The only potential difference between them is in the behavior at the horizon.

Stephen Hawking has argued that white holes are the same as black holes, once quantum mechanics is taken into account.

[edit] Relation to Quantum Mechanical Black Holes
Black hole horizons can only absorb matter, while white hole horizons ostensibly recede from any incoming matter at the local speed of light, so that the infalling matter never crosses. The infalling matter is then scattered and reemitted at the death of the white hole, receding to infinity after having come very very close to the final singular point where the white hole is destroyed. The total proper time until an infalling object encounters the singular endpoint is the same as the proper time to be swallowed by a black hole, so the white hole picture does not say what happens to the infalling matter. Ignoring the classically unpredictable emissions of the white hole, the white hole and black hole are indistinguishable for external observers.

In quantum mechanics, the black hole emits Hawking radiation, and so can come to thermal equilibrium with a gas of radiation. Since a thermal equilbrium state is time reversal invariant, Hawking argued that the time reverse of a black hole in thermal equilibrium is again a black hole in thermal equilibrium.[1] This implies that black holes and white holes are the same object. The Hawking radiation from an ordinary black hole is then identified with the white hole emission. Hawking's semi-classical argument is reproduced in a quantum mechanical AdS/CFT treatment[2], where a black hole in Anti De Sitter space is described by a thermal gas in a gauge theory, whose time reversal is the same as itself.

[edit] Origin
White holes appear as part of the vacuum solution to the Einstein field equations describing a Schwarzschild wormhole. One end of this type of wormhole is a black hole, drawing in matter, and the other is a white hole, emitting matter. While this gives the impression that black holes in our universe may connect to white holes elsewhere, in reality, this is untrue, for two reasons. First, Schwarzschild wormholes are unstable, disconnecting as soon as they form. Second, Schwarzschild wormholes are only a solution to the Einstein field equations in vacuum (when no matter interacts with the hole). Real black holes are formed by the collapse of stars. When the infalling stellar matter is added to a diagram of a black hole's history, it removes the part of the diagram corresponding to the white hole [1].

The existence of white holes that are not part of a wormhole is doubtful, as they appear to violate the second law of thermodynamics.

Quasars and active galactic nuclei are observed to spew out jets of matter. This is now believed to be the result of polar jets formed when matter falls into supermassive black holes at the centers of these objects. Prior to this model, white holes emitting matter were one possible explanation proposed.

[edit] Recent Speculations
A more recently proposed view of black holes might be interpreted as shedding some light on the nature of classical white holes. Some researchers proposed that when a black hole forms, a big bang occurs at the core which creates a new universe that expands into extra dimensions outside of the parent universe[3]. See also Fecund universes.

The initial feeding of matter from the parent universe's black hole and the expansion that follows in the new universe might be thought of as a cosmological type of white hole. Unlike traditional white holes, this type of white hole would not be localized in space in the new universe and its horizon would have to be identified with the cosmological horizon.

The enemy that brought about the Fall didn't wear a uniform. It didn't speak of jihads or crusades. It didn't rally extremists to the cause.

Immune to metal detectors, oblivious to terror status rankings, Shiva moved without sound and without fury.

The microscopic virus originated in southern Asia, somewhere between India and Pakistan. It manifested first as a deadly flu epidemic, but                       how it came about isn't entirely clear. Was it just a quirk of biology? A secret government project gone awry? A purposefully targeted biological weapon? No one ever found out for sure, and with the heightened tensions of the region, few wasted time looking for an answer.

Pakistani radicals almost immediately assumed it was a weaponized virus unleashed by India and retaliated with a nuclear bomb that sparked a devastating exchange between both countries that left hundreds of thousands dead within just a few hours.

Neither fire nor radiation brought humanity low, however. The blasts flung irradiated dust laced with the Shiva virus into the atmosphere, where it mutated into a new and more potent form.

Shiva 2 descended on Asia, spreading rapidly and sparking further nuclear exchanges between ancient enemies. As chaos overwhelmed the world, major cities in Europe and North America, including cities in the United States, fell prey to similar attacks. Civilization collapsed within a few weeks, leaving only a handful of sheltered areas habitable.

The Shiva virus mutated again and again, and stymied scientists who struggled to find a cure. Eventually, the virus reached its final incarnation: Shiva 7. Although it exhibited symptoms similar to those of its predecessors, Shiva 7 was non-lethal. Once the illness ran its course, the virus fell dormant within its host. But by the time Shiva 7 became the dominant strain of the virus, more than 90 percent of the world's population was gone. Nearly all of the survivors were infected with Shiva 7, but its effects seemed minimal for decades.

In subsequent generations, however, hidden effects of Shiva 7 became apparent. The virus caused mutations - some benign, some malignant, and some...quite strange, giving a few people the ability to manipulate the world around them. The virus had altered the fundamental genetic makeup of humanity.

Now, in the year 2154, you find yourself in the Grand Canyon Province, isolated from the rest of the fallen world. Hoover Dam, the last bastion of civilization in the region, has fallen to the Children of the Apocalypse and their allies after decades of conflict. The Enforcers and Techs, once servants of the reviled ruler of Hoover Dam, Alec Masters, now search for a new place in the world. In one of the last habitable regions on earth, humanity struggles to hold on to the last scraps of the old world. The savage Children of the Apocalypse, the wily Travelers, the militaristic Enforcers, the technology-friendly Techs, the nature-loving Vistas, and the mystical and altruistic Lightbearers all struggle for dominance.

They'll become your allies or enemies as you explore, share the adventure, and shape the future of Fallen Earth™.

The Children of the Apocalypse have been around since the Fall, but the name has only been in use since they began raiding Hoover Dam and its supporting settlements. Before the coming of Redhand, small roaming bands of CHOTA warred among themselves and destroyed or used up any remaining technology they came across in the wastes. Made up of the countless throngs of those survivors whose minds could not face the changes in the world around them, the CHOTA outnumbered the other factions, but were broken up into fractious tribes that could be defeated individually and rarely cooperated. With the coming of the great warlord Redhand, this changed. Redhand appealed to their desire for destruction and conquest, uniting them despite their inherent resistance to authority.

The primary strengths of the CHOTA are their large numbers, mutations, and ferocity. The CHOTA are one of the largest factions in the Province, though because of their fractured society, they rarely bring this advantage to bear. There are large numbers of mutants among their ranks as a result of their extensive exposure to the Shiva 7 virus and radiation. Some mutants are trained as shamans, and they expand their senses and increase their powers by altering their mental state with herbs and fungi. While the CHOTA are not well armed, relying on scavenged weapons and armor, they are very powerful fighters and can be frighteningly effective in combat.

There are many tribes within the CHOTA, most of which control a single settlement. Some are larger, encompassing several camps, and normally grow through integration of the conquered. Groups within the CHOTA, such as the Slaughter Kings and the Spirit Seers, hold a wide variety of beliefs and practices. Members of conflicting sects can be found in most of their settlements.

Each CHOTA tribe has its own leader who is usually referred to as Warchief if he or she is given any title at all. Each tribe is quite clear on its pecking order, and they do not need titles to keep score. The only person who has influence over the tribes as a whole is Redhand, the leader of the CHOTA Revolt and for decades the prime mover in their society. Redhand leads a tribe, and others give his words due consideration, but he has no actual authority over them.

The CHOTA recognize the nomadic and chaotic Travelers as kindred spirits of a sort. Since they do not build much, the CHOTA rely on their allies for many of their weapons, armor, and other supplies. From their earliest days, they have fought alongside the Vistas against the Enforcers and the Techs. In exchange for food and supplies, the CHOTA have given raw materials and protection to the Vistas, and the two have developed a strong symbiotic relationship in many areas.

Unsurprisingly the CHOTA have earned themselves many enemies dating all the way back to the days of the Hoover Dam Garrison. The Enforcers embody everything that the CHOTA hate, creating order and rebuilding the old world, even as the CHOTA tear down every last vestige of the old days. The two factions have fought for decades without ceasing. The weakling Techs hide behind their Enforcer allies and are seen as being mere lackeys of the Enforcers. Eventually, the CHOTA believe the Techs will be destroyed. The Lightbearers are too ordered and controlling for the CHOTA to ever live with, despite the fact they share many of the same mutation powers.

The closest thing the CHOTA have to a home base is Six Points, the settlement built on the ruins of Five Points where Redhand once guided the faction. Six Points is located in the southern end of CHOTA Gulch in the remains of a small mountain town. It is home to many warriors but has few merchants or craftsmen, though some Travelers and Vistas dwell there.

The world as it was known is completely shattered, and the only hope for its reconstruction is the law and order of the Enforcers. That, at least, is the theory. There are many who do not share the vision of the world's rebirth that the Enforcers claim to embody, citing their past involvement in (some might even say orchestration of) terrible events. None can deny the horrors visited years ago upon those living in the Hoover Dam, but in the time since, the Enforcers have worked to rise above that stigma. The faction was formed from the remnants of military units, local law enforcement, and even park rangers, but now they recruit any who believe that the Enforcer way is the only way to restore what has been lost.

The reports of crushing dictatorship by would-be Enforcer warlords are rampant, and there are corpses located throughout the desert bearing evidence of Enforcer execution. Some within their own ranks feel as if they are constantly being watched and scrutinized by unseen agents. Nothing is ever proven, but the suspicion continues to mount as to whether the militaristic defenders of order are actually making a better world or simply crushing the life and freedom out of what is left of the Fallen Earth.

Still, the faction's influence and resources continue to be the leading reasons for fresh recruits to petition for membership. Enforcer training and conditioning is harsh in the extreme, with strict schedules and grueling physical exercises. A cadre of Enforcer-trained shock troops has few equals on any battlefield, and when entrenched in a fortification, can hold off groups ten times its size for extended periods. Most outsiders have even come to expect such a stereotype from the Enforcers. With their access to some of the best equipment available from the remnants of what came before, the common image of the Enforcer soldier is a battle-ready trooper armed with a well-kept rifle and protected by refurbished combat armor. The Enforcers are quick to challenge that conception, pointing out that most of their members are in fact civilians without combat experience who serve in support roles. Their enemies, sadly, do not often make that distinction, adding to the body count when the dust settles after an engagement.

The Enforcers are allied with the Techs, who trade their knowledge and goods for protection, and the Lightbearers, who share the vision of a restored world under strong leadership. With the aid of these two groups, they are able to face the threats of those who would see the Enforcers completely unmade, most notably the dangerous CHOTA. These anarchistic savages oppose everything that the Enforcers seek to build, and are the single most hostile threat that the faction faces, followed closely by the shady Travelers and eco-fanatical Vistas.

While the Enforcers are prevalent throughout all known parts of the region, they are most influential in the stretch of land known as Siller's Canyon. Here, they are surrounded on all sides by enemies, which seems to make their mission that much clearer. In this, their most dangerous frontier, they confront the very forces that wish to see them undone completely, all while battling internal strife between several groups within their own ranks.

The current commander of the Enforcers is Colonel Elizabeth Pryce, a hard-nosed woman with a great deal of leadership experience. After the fall of Alec Masters and the subsequent struggles created by his defeat, it was Colonel Pryce who had the influence and commanding presence to bring together the fractured remnants of the Enforcers and reaffirm their goals. In the years since, however, some captains and lieutenants have begun to express concern about miscommunication and unreliable intelligence; some say it is only a matter of time before the chain of command breaks down again. Are the Enforcers the last hope for rebirth on the Fallen Earth, or will they be the impetus for its final and inexorable destruction?

my wife said i have had enough, im sick, thats it, get out!
so i stumbled down to kellys pub across the edge of town
and i told the boys me story and we had another round

we'll drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink and fight!
we'll drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink and fight!
and if i see a pretty girl, ill sleep with her tonight!
we'll drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink and fight!

and mary mcgregor, she was a pretty whore
she'd always greet you with a smile and never lock her door
but on the day she died, all the men in town did weep
for mary mcgregor finally got some sleep

we'll drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink and fight!
we'll drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink and fight!
and if i see a pretty girl, ill sleep with her tonight!
we'll drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink and fight!

well i once loved a girl, a child im told
i gave her my heart and she gave my a cold
so now i sit standing here out in the pouring rain
ill stumble back to kellys pub and cry away me pain

we'll drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink and fight!
we'll drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink, and drink and fight!
and if i see a pretty girl, ill sleep with her tonight!
