Does Portugal have memes?
Do Portuguese go to Spain a lot?
and finally, is American food popular there?
-
I can answer a few of those...
1) I date a Brazilian woman, she says yes there is portuguese memes
2) She said 'duh'
3) She said Mcdonalds and Subway are there so 'I guess so.'
-
lol

I'll try to go around smart ass questions and answers and try to give useful information, just to piss you off. :whip:
1
Yes there are portuguese memes, there's even a portuguese group in the US that makes fun of the portuguese immigrants in the US.
Portuguese meme using Cristiano Ronaldo's face with mustache and folklore background:
reads: Has great grade in English, has negative grade in Portuguese.
Watch the "I'm portuguese and I know it" version of LMFAO's hit - Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoWPvv87pGA
mind they're from the islands of Azores, they have a different accent comparing to the mainland, also they use a lot of portuguese words into the song so you might be like "wtf are they saying" sometimes.
2
Portuguese go everywhere dude, but the answer that Oz's gurl gave is pretty accurate. Just as reference, because of the crisis 5 of my best friends moved to the UK to work. UK is pretty "close", round-trip 2 months from now costs around 180 EUR = 240 USD. 2 months ago I went to Brussels (Belgium) and I'm not a guy with money, I did spend a ton of money in March on a trip to Florence (Italy) with my wife. Supposedly I crossed the border to Spain sometime when I was very young but I've got no recollection, it's not that I don't want to go there, I'd like to go to Barcelona, but there's better things to do and see. So yeah, portuguese go to spain a lot, specially to put gas in the car if they live close to the border, gas prices are lower there.

We do have access to "American" food. Most popular fast food is probably McDonalds and Coke has a heavy presence, yet portuguese wine is the most popular drink (maybe more than water haha). Some cities have Subway, BurgerKing is rare, there's probably more PizzaHutts than Subways just for reference. There are a lot of other fast food chains, even Portuguese fast food, Mediterranean, Middle-eastern, Brazilian fast food, etc. Again, they are popular fast food, not food. We have a lot of restaurants here (a lot, like one in each neighborhood) and it's still very popular that when you go out to eat you go to a restaurant, not fast-food place, thus there's a lot of traditional portuguese food restaurants, italian restaurants (tons of things better than olivegarden which is fake italian), traditional portuguese foods from:
- Minho (northwest part, goat/lamb slow cook in stone oven is very traditional);
- Trás-os-Montes (northeast, they have a specialty with "old goat" cooked in wine slowly taking a lot of time, among with other recipies with sausages cabbages chourizos etc);
- Porto (northern "capital", lots of sausages and guts traditional dishes);
- Serra da Estrela (center mountain-range has very good sausages and cheeses which originate good recipes);
- Western region has a lot of traditional seafood dishes; here's a curiosity, we eat this: Perceves (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollicipes_pollicipes), they stick to rocks on the coast, they have a soft inside that tastes pretty much like fresh mussels.
- Lisboa e vale do tejo (Lisbon and Tagus valley, most variety of traditional food, from seafood to pork);
- Ribatejo (center part near tagus river, very good pork traditional dishes);
- Alentejo (region mid-south has a lot of heavy flavored traditional food, pork, cornbread, sausages, cabbage and whatnot);
- Sudoeste (southwest has very good fish, my favorite is Sargo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sargo));
- Algarve is the southern part bathed by the Mediterranean and most touristic part, as you can imagine the food variety spreads from north-african influence dishes to middle-eastern and traditional portuguese fish recipes.
-
Are you still planning on moving to America? Didn't you say Milwaukee?
I hear there's a lot of crime there.
-
I hear they also hate portuguese people
like a lot.
-
Hey, I went to school in Milwaukee. All I remember is fat people and beer.
-
Minnesota, next state to my wife's family, yeah I watched enough Everybody Loves Raymond to know not to live close by
I kind of like the innocence of US inner north country, people are nice, you see real life cowboys (as I explained b4, here cowboys are fictional characters, people don't think there's still people that dress like that), huge pickups, everybody drives a mustang or corvette on sundays, yeah seems ok.
I was going to move to the US in April but my wife wanted to stay some more in Portugal. Well it's a lovely country but employment is crap atm, but there's a chance for new projects, I might start a business here, that'll put moving to the US further away.
-
Is euro pop popular there?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdcWYhcDy40 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdcWYhcDy40)
-
If you call it euro pop is because they're popular enough to cross from europe to the US. They are not that popular here in Portugal.
Most americans stereotype euro pop with what we call "techno-pop" or "dance", when you say euro pop I think of old scandinavian pop (1 hit wonders) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jK-NcRmVcw).
There's a prejudice that people that listen to techno, specially loud in their cars, are yokels that boost their sound and tune their cars, and you know what, most people that I know that listen to that crap are "tuning" (modified cars) people, which most people make fun of. It's generalized, I'm aware the same prejudice applies in the US. But there's hope in humanity, most of them grow up and start listening to pop/rock Artic Monkeys and whatnot.
When I was a kid I listened to a lot of Scooter (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHOgkgnZAdc).
Yet techno is a very wide category. Curiosity: Here's one of our best DJs who I know, he's from the town I live in (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hI4W-PQ_Rbc)
You probably get a lot of "euro pop" crap that comes on EuroVision contest (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBUJ0u7ZVaE).
"Drum and Bass" is very popular with teens in university, a lot of my colleagues were into it, while I listened to Acid Jazz like Saint Germain (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7gdC6XWIoU&list=PL119BC30749FD91CC).

hobbies are what makes you spent a lot of time and effort of your dear life without making any money? I guess politics then.
Yes I play video games, PC games of any kind. I've been a faithful follower of the Battlefield series. I don't have much time to play them tho.
No, I did put together some figther jets when I was a kid but no I don't put together models, I put together industrial projects - I guess I've ten upped that.
Yes, they are very tasty.

and finally, do you like tea?
-
I don't know. What I like about xmas is the presents, right next to my birthday, but I think I like New Year more than xmas. I tried to have a bbq at 4th of july a year ago but the fires made the bugs go crazy, was way too hot in South Dakota.

I don't usually like tea, but it's nice to have some sometimes.
this one is pretty good, I normally like minty tea.

Green tea or blueberry are also pretty good.

Do people in Portugal use social media like the Facebook or the twitters or even the myspaces?!
-
Who the hell still uses myspace? And why would people not use the same networks in other countries? There's specific cases like Orkut in Brazil but most of the world uses whatever networks are trending.
(http://images.orkut.com/orkut/photos/RAAAAL6N_EG4TSviVRH2jlCw82s6RMBr1KJn8wCyI5vvO-6AipUnU1y8Z36JMfl4A4QtMqzQ7Vuol9a6Q3pP1d4P8lTKP31mAYwZts6hbsUBgCDuAJtU9VCxsxP8k1qK3UDhNVWGxRvfg-l62Q.jpg)
It's one of the reasons why I don't use mIRC, it was trending when I was a fricking kid, way over 10 years ago. When I was young there were photo networks like "fotolog" or "hi5" very trendy before facebook.
Facebook is definitely the most used, when farmville was a hit they even caught a "senator" (parliamentary) playing farmville during Republic Assembly sessions. Many of them have facebook open while in session and it's my and most other's main social media communication platform.
Before Facebook I used MSN messenger and Skype, now I only use Skype sometimes.
Twitter is also used a lot but it doesn't have anywhere close (%) the use in the US comparing to Facebook - I don't even have an account -, and somehow linkedin is a professional network that a lot of people use but not as social network.
I estimate that facebook is starting to saturate and there will be room for other networks. Google+ is trying another comeback, it's wisely inter-connected with our phone apps and whatnot, but not enough people use it regularly.

Another widely used social media platform is the forum.taijitu.org.........

Hey
Here's an Australian anthropologist "quick" assessment: http://popanth.com/article/ten-things-ive-learned-about-the-portuguese/
I guess it can be called the anthropologist quick and extremely short guide to the Portuguese
1 - Although I do like to hike, mountains/trails or such, no I don't hike, but I enjoy outdoors still. Sometimes lack of time, lack of willpower or lack of fitness forces me into my computer chair. Although I was a volleyball player and was incredibly fit about 7years ago, now I'm considered fat, although I'm "just" Large size in American sizes :P (yes they are bigger than European sizes, so cliché).
2 - Did you make that pic? Full time revolutionary is not a bad answer, I'm member of a party that on American spectrum would be considered out-of-the-chart left-wing.
I've studied Industrial (product) Design and I do try to do just that. I did freelance design work, like graphic/web design, so badly paid. I did vigilance on a nearby Castle (yes, a real medieval castle). All this to say I've had a ton of little jobs and that's what kind of work a young dude I can get around here, very exploited, hence why many rather just leave to somewhere else.
I'm doing an industrial design project that might create a brand which I will manage, so I guess I'm a potential business man or potential failed designer.
Right now I'm under a contract with my Party and I work as an assistant, sort-of a clerk, to fix bureaucratic problems and whatnot, contract was supposed to end last month but I got another month to help with finances for local election campaigns (16 different campaigns). I've always failed math...
3 - Yes I cook, and well, any way of cooking, but I never tried an engine block. I like BBQ with my friends somewhere remote, or an elaborate and very saucy dish on my stove/oven.

I did not make that pic, I found it

Do you smoke tobacco(cigarettes/cigars)?
Do you prefer Microsoft or apple computers?
and finally, what type of car do you drive (if you don't drive, do you walk, fly, ride a bike?)
-
Nope, I don't smoke. Sometimes when I drink too much I like to smoke, but then I get disgusted with tobacco taste and smell, I don't like to be anywhere and smelling or getting tobacco smoke on my face. Tobacco policies in europe are improving, some of them are prohibitive, in Portugal you have to have smoke extraction fans so people can smoke on your coffee shop/restaurant. You can't smoke in shops and whatnot. Some other policies help smokers to quit smoking.
check the tv adds: ec.europa.eu/health/documents/community-register/HELP/index.html
I prefer microsoft, not because I don't like Apple but it's more convenient in terms of hardware. The kind of programs I use I was sort-of forced into Intel and Nvidia which I could micromanage it's performance for rendering programs. With Games it's the same I guess.

Renault is a french brand makes very affordable cars with good safety specs, also making some very good sports or executive cars.

What is your favorite song/album of all time?

-
OMG, I love that album, I have the CD, not many people have it, not many people know the man-machine song. It's hard to pick and choose a favorite album. I'm not a fan of live performance albums but Queen's Live at Montreal is awesome and one of my favorite albums: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0dbGGvsjf8
I guess only Pink Floyd, Queen or some classical or jazz music I can put the CD playing and listen it through.
Book...well the book that made me grow up when I was 15 was Hermann Hesse's Siddartha. In romances I liked to read Umberto Eco's Pendulum of Foucault but Mia Couto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mia_Couto)'s books or Saramago's are better. This is probably somewhere in the top of my list: The Book of Disquiet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Book_of_Disquiet)
I also advise to read Saramago's Cain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cain_%28novel%29)
I like all junk food. Two days ago I bought a Mister Choc Choco Duo jar...
I think my fav. Chocolate is Cadbury, if you're in the US and you want to try real Cadbury, go to World Market and buy legit european Cadbury. It has loads of fat and real sugar, hmmmmmmmmmmmm
Or Kinder, this is awesome too...

We don't have planters, it'd be Eagle's, I can eat through a can of honey roasted peanuts like a cat with a tuna can, then my jaw hurts.
-
what is Mister choc choco? It looks like chocolate and marshmallow?
-
Nope, chocolate hazelnut, can't you see the label? Plus Marshmallow is not something that is commonly mixed with other junk food in Europe, or peanut butter.
-
Aren't you getting married?
You going to have lots of mini delfos's?
What sports do you play? do you like Tennis?
-
I'm already married, over 2 years now.
I'm not sure if or when I'm going to have mini delfos', it's not on my current agenda, but I never give up the training.
I played Volleyball but now I rarely do sports, sometimes soccer, cycling, BBQing. I think Tennis is one of the most boring sport ever to watch and I'm not interested in playing it, I think snooker is more interesting to watch than Tennis.

What do you mean big into cellphones? I don't fancy them as toys, but I do fancy technology, I have a Sony Xperia with android OS.

What's your biggest fear? IS IT GHOSTS?! IS IT ME WITH A CLOWN MASK ON?!
Very likely, you with a clown mask on.
tbh I don't know what is my fear, maybe being lonely. I don't believe in ghosts or supernatural beings, everything has a logical explanation. I also have pointy ears and speak vulcan haha...no. Being lonely sounds right, losing someone I care about, not being able to grasp life happily, something like that.
Is Halloween big in Portugal?
It's not as big as in the US comparing to Carnival for several reasons.
First, it's called Noite das Bruchas = Witches' Night. It's mostly dedicated to spooky crap, skeletons, witches, maybe zombies. It's not an all-out any crap candy fest.
2nd, We have Carnival (close to easter), where we dress up the way you do in Halloween, and usually have social gatherings, parades, parties, dancings, it's the "big" costume holiday here.
3rd, it's being influenced by American tradition and is now becoming much like Halloween there. We already had pumpkins but now plastic decorations and whatnot are becoming way stronger, like a Halloween Xmas.
4th, the following day we have "All saints day", it's regarded for kids to go door to door asking "Bread for god", old way for kids to beg for bread, nowadays it's candy, the same your kids do in Halloween night. It's also normal to have family diner, sort of like Thanks Giving.
This is a carnival parade from close by place, I chose this photo that shows Cabeçudos = "Big Heads" which is a common Portuguese carnival parade tradition, and I chose this particular photo because you might be able to recognize Hugo Chavez. The rest of the figures are from Portuguese government, had to do with a big deal of computers we did with Venezuela. It's not the only deal with Venezuela but this one is very well known. Our Carnival caricatures are very political, yes.
We know you're a fine english typer, but are you a good english speaker?
Yes, above normal. Americans say I don't have an accent, not even American accent, Portuguese and British say I have an American accent. Any person here can speak English, some better than others, but to speak with good accent and proper fluency is rare. I'm very fluent, even if sometimes I may struggle momentarily trying to formulate a fluent speech, I don't usually have a problem.
Not that long ago I dined with a Syriza member of the Hellenic Parliament, I was so fluent that my party asked me to translate Portuguese to English so she could understand the discussion we were going to have later, and translate from English to Portuguese what she would say to the Portuguese audience. I've heard I did very well, it was my first time trying to do live translation, I can guarantee you, it's not easy, I was sweating when I was trying to translate from English to Portuguese live.
I was used to translate portuguese to english for my wife, but the opposite is much harder, I can't simplify english to portuguese because of nuance/connotations.
At the end of the event, people asked her some questions and I helped translating back and forth, and she then offered her place if I ever went to Greece.

What is your biggest pet peeve? IS IT BEING ASKED QUESTIONS BY CREEPS ON THE INTERNET?!
Are you a hipster? Are there hipsters in portugal?

What is your biggest pet peeve? IS IT BEING ASKED QUESTIONS BY CREEPS ON THE INTERNET?!
No, I love that... Pet peeve...maybe...Unconscious Discrimination or bigotry. I'm very rebellious against my "superiors", I don't think there are superiors and sometimes people act or force to be superior, I hate paternalisms or discrimination per status quo.
Are you a hipster? Are there hipsters in portugal?
Nope, I'm not a hipster. Yes there are plenty of hipsters in Portugal, specially in university and highschool.
Do you watch tv? If so what shows?
I barely watch TV, I watch the News, even news I see most of them online. I tend to watch stuff with my wife, sometimes even on Hulu. I like complex, well filmed, well directed, great actors series, one of my favorites is The Wire
(http://s3.amazonaws.com/rapgenius/filepicker%2Fd6E3oRLykiuxA4XSA9K0_the_wire_wallpaper_1024x768_1.jpg)
I've a hard time liking new series, they're so dumb, mostly because the acting is HORRIBLE. Game of Thrones is horrible in many ways but they're "smart", they make so many levels of interest that you're bound to be hooked to one or another sometime, if you hate the main plot, the wars and the shallow bloodsheds, you have the politics, the sociologies and all that crap that isn't that bad. and boobs...
I tend to follow Mad Men, sometimes Fringe and I haven't had the opportunity to watch Breaking Bad. Portuguese stuff, they're usually horrible, but there was a series called "Liberdade 21" which was a firm of lawyers, sort of like Boston Legal portuguese version, there has been others.
Are you curious of european series? Try this:
The "autobahn polizei" or interstate police, they're famous to wreck a BMW car in every episode, full of explosions and high speed chases, hahaha.

Marine Deep Blue or grayish Blue might be my favorite, but I also like vivid red, deep purple, toasted/orangy yellow and their combinations with black or white.

do you wear jewelry?
No, no adornments, not even wedding ring or a wrist watch, I don't like adornments. I do like good clothes tho.

Do you frequent the bar a lot?
I used to go religiously every week 1 to 3 times for "bar time"=drinking and chatting, now I only go like 1 to 3 times a week for a drink or two max without much time spent.
Are you a neat freak(tidy, clean person)?
Ahahahahaha...I'm organized, and I look tidy, but not at my bedroom/computer space. My computer desk has papers piling here and there, stuff like cables shoved to a corner, important documents piling in front of me, it's sort-of organized but doesn't look like it is. My bedroom is like clothes everywhere, they're organized but it doesn't look like so :P Sometimes (once a month for my bedroom, once every 3 or 4 months my computer desk) I do go an make it tidy, clean and all that, but it doesn't last long.
Are you usually late, early or right on time to your destinations?
It's Portuguese tradition to be late. It depends, I'm usually right on time, 3 minutes before or after. Sometimes for meetings I'm like 15min late but that's ok (most people are usually more late than that). When I was in high-school I was usually late for the 1st class, I'd always say "Better late than never".
this meme is every day Portugal :P doesn't matter you're 5min late for bus, they're usually not gone 10min after the schedule.

I've got a few souvenirs from Florence Italy hanging on the wall, mostly because of my wife. I bought a couple of posters to hang but I never figured out where to put them. One of them is Dark Side of the Moon prism with rainbows shooting out of it.

What is your favorite cheese?
Hm, difficult question. To just eat it like a mofo I think I like Serra da Estrela cheese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serra_da_Estrela_cheese), it's buttery melty. You can just open a hole on top of the "husk" and knife out chunks to spread on crackers....hmmmmmmmmmm cheeeeesegasm
(http://files.gostosetracos.webnode.pt/200000026-2631d272c0/Queijo-Serra-da-Estrela.jpg)
Ilha de São Jorge cheese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A3o_Jorge_cheese) is also very good, but very strong. Very good with tint wine.
Nisa cheese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queijo_de_Nisa) is cheap and tasty, it's the "special" cheese I buy the most.
For some more familiar cheeses: Strong Scottish Cheddar is also pretty good, I do Mac&Cheese with it. Parmesan on pasta, mozzarella all over stuff. Other than that I just buy Edam cheese regularly, it's what Portuguese use as regular cheese.
How do you keep up with the news? Newspaper? Yahoo news(like me)? Fox news Portugal edition?
American news? Daily Show might be my predilect news agency :P
I do read local newspapers, where I live has 2 weekly newspapers, they feature other close-by towns which don't have regular press, but it's mainly for this city.
I've cable tv, I have access to CNN, FOX, not sure if msnbc, when the towers came down I think we had CNN on for a couple of days.
Portugal has 3 main tv chains that span through different channels and cable channels, all main 5 free digital channels feature News twice a day, then each has their own "information"/"news" cable tv channels rolling news all day, including their Internet counterparts.
Here's RTP, public tv chain: http://www.rtp.pt/homepage/
btw Notícias means News, try this link: http://www.rtp.pt/noticias/index.php?article=687770&tm=7&layout=122&visual=61

Do you own any crazy/wacky ties?
I have rarely used a tie in my life. I own very few ties, most of them pretty neat but square, no wacky ones. One of my favorites is a slim dark silver one, very 60s.
Are you a wreckless driver?
Well, I never had an accident in my life, oops that's not true:
I did have one accident which wasn't my fault, some scratches were done to my frontal side of the car, the car sort-of ahead of me cut a curve into my lane, I thought my car wouldn't slide as much if I used full breaks, but it slided my front side into the other dude's large pickup back side, almost no damage to his car, but I kinda had to put the turn signal into place.
I also did a 180º once: There's this very windy road that I like to drive in, but I never had driven with wet tar, had been raining, and so I kinda pushed my car too much, ended up losing control, was about to get off road into the tree lines when I had the idea of turning the wheel all the way and not break, it saved me from having to tow the car out of the ditch/forest but I was on the wrong way between tight S curves. (that sounds dirty)
Oh, I also scratched the car once when I was being annoyed by my mom while parking on a tight spot and turn, I wanted to get over it so I just parked even tho I had to scratch another car. I left a note and payed the damage! hah!
Other than that, 3 parking tickets and a speeding ticket inside city, was going 74-79km/h when the limit is 50km/h.
By Portuguese standards, this is pretty average, maybe even not that bad, so no, I'm not a wreckless driver.

Do you believe in luck? Do you carry around any specific object believing it's lucky?
Not sure. I believe everything is accountable, action-reaction, Lavoisier's principle, but we do not have the right tools to account everything. I 'm favorable to the theory that it is possible to know all truth, past present and future, we're just dumb. Sort of like 2001 Space Odyssey movie. Therefore "luck" could be that the odds are in your favor, not that there's a supernatural magic allowing you to succeed, therefore I don't thing a rabbit's paw would change much. This theory explains why sometimes we, or some people, are more adept to calculate the future. It's not magic, it's just simple physics, if you throw a rock you estimate it'll fall, you have enough knowledge to calculate it's trajectory and kinetic speed, yet there's many things we don't know yet, higg's particle might be a mind opener.

I don't know. Like that new movie with the guy that goes back in time because of a girl and whatnot? I'm pretty glad of my past and history in general. I believe things happen for a reason, Hitler had to exist so we'd have the European Union, peace, the fall of the berlin wall, all that crap happened so that we improve ourselves and learn from the mistakes of the past. Of course, some learn in different ways and others don't learn at all, but that's us, humans, faulty as sh*t.
If I could go back, I'd probably experiment different things because I'd have learned everything else until now, doing everything all over would be pretty boring, and impossible to remember everything exactly the same, but I regret nothing I did to the point of, if I could, I'd change it.

Are you a good public speaker?
Depends. I'm kinda shy but politically nobody licenses me. I've participated on debates on the radio against other political opponents or interviewed. I have my share of participations on large debates or conventions and I've spoken towards 30 strangers more than once without much problem, was invited to talk about either Design or political stuff with strangers and never had a problem.

Do you go to church?
What do you think? Been there, done that. I'm not even baptized, I'm a "radical" left-winger who believes structures of power are coercive to freedom, the Church is one of the worst indoctrination places where if you challenge their logic they say "It is normal to question God, God is testing our faith. Many times I questioned and God always found a path for me." or "I'm sure you will find your path with God sooner or later".
..!,
As an institution, many have died in it's name. Too many. Also it's a political force, this new pope proves it, it's like a failed party choosing a leader to reconnect with it's electors. I hope they do change because they weight too much influence in the world. You think not? Who cares about the kings of Monaco, Liechtenstein, Andorra, San Marino or even Luxembourg and Belgium? Do you care Belgium is politically unstable, that there's separatist intents? No, but you do know what the Pope said about Atheists, like if the Vatican was much more important than the fricking "capital" of the European Union.
Do you own a gun? If not, have you ever fired a gun?
I think I still have a Nerf-gun somewhere. I have never fired a firearm, I've fired some air pressured guns with led pellets, or paintball, or other crap. I don't think people should own guns, but i don't think it's wrong to go hunting and whatnot. Maybe there's better systems, rentals? Practically nobody here has a gun, we trust the police force to handle messy situations. Supposedly, here you're either a hunter or a criminal if you own a gun. Might not be too hard to acquire a gun, legal or illegal, people just have better things to do, and believe that guns are directly connected to mortality, not sport. I'm not sure if I'll acquire a gun or not when possible if I move to the US. I'm certain it won't be for personal defense, I'd be against jeopardizing someone's life, even if he's a criminal. I might like to go hunting just to spend some time with nature, AND KILL IT!, no, might call it hiking instead...

Do you usually write in pencil or pen?
With a Keyboard/cellphone? I like pen, I like to draw with pen, make it all very dark and scratchy. Pencils kinda make it obligatory to have an eraser, most pencils have crap erasers on the other end and I'd keep losing my eraser if I had to carry an eraser and pencil all the time. Also it fades fast if the paper isn't stored properly. nha.

What's your favorite canned food?
My most eaten canned food is Tuna, but my favorite might be Feijoada à Transmontana.
(http://media.continente.pt/Sonae.eGlobal.Presentation.Web.Media/media.axd?resourceSearchType=2&resource=ProductId=2005238%28eCsf$RetekProductCatalog$MegastoreContinenteOnline$Continente%29&siteId=1&channelId=1&width=280&height=280&defaultOptions=1)
Feijoada à Transmontana, my best translation is = Beyond-Mountains Bean-stew. Trás-os-Montes is literally "behind the mounts" - is a region of Portugal, it's a mountainous landscape in the far northeast part of the country. "Bean-stew"/Feijoada is a traditional dish of Portugal, there's tons of ways we do our magical fruit, the more you eat...
You'll have to let google translate it for you wiki link (http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feijoada_%C3%A0_transmontana)
Why? Because it's a complex food that is processed and canned so that you can just heat it and it's delicious. It's not that great but it's the best canned food I've had.
Do you have a coffee mug that says something?
Not with a witty phrase. I've a mug that has Mount Rushmore and random facts about South Dakota...

Is there Ping-Pong in Portugal?
I'm friends with a world champion and in my town there's a pavilion/development center specific for table tennis and badminton that has housed several international competitions. Almost every school, primary, highschool, university, has at least 1 table, or youth centers, or other social/community centers have them.
Do you draw/do art in your free time?
Lots of doodling. I'm a designer, if I'm not researching volumes, shapes and their organization in space I'm doodling my next logo. To draw as in drawing what I see, I do sometimes. When I worked at the castle I used to draw the landscape and the castle to pass time (it was an 8h straight shift but with lots of kill time). I like to draw with pen and make is very dark compared to most pencil drawers. My favorite comic drawer is Hugo Pratt.
Do you even lift?
Nope. Although when I was federated volleyball player my leg muscles (calf) could lift over 100kg (220.462lbs - there were no more weights for the machine) by just lifting my heel - a lifetime achievement, ever since I stopped doing volleyball I never went to the gym again. I prefer outdoor practices, like cycling.
