Title: Political parties in Taijitu
Post by: Solnath on June 19, 2007, 02:52:55 AM
Alright, everyone. I posted this (http://forum.taijitu.org/the-senate-chambers/informal-discussion-political-parties/0/) in the Senate Chambers, but as it concerns the whole Taijituan political system, I'd like opinions from those not in the Senate. Because of the rather strict "don't post without explicit permission, grr"-rule, non-Senators would be really nice if they posted comments and questions in this thread to avoid rousing the anger of the Dreaded Speaker.

Erm, there's no such rule.

Officially no, true.

It's still good to have a discussion going in more than one place.  It helps keep things nice an cluttered.

How's the organizing of The Party going?

The Libertarian Party of Taijitu!

Still debating with myself over whether to call it the Taijitan Communist Party or not...

I like the name, I'm not sure other prospective members will.

Incidentally, will parties get their own boards on the Taijitu forums?

i advise a more general name, left wingish, Left Block Party, just Left Party, Union Party......

NO!  TCP is just too good an acronym.  TSP (Taijitan Socialist Party) and TLP (Taijitan Left Party) just don't sound as good.

CPT Communist Party of Taijitu...or CSPT (Communo-Socialist Party of Taijitu)

See what communists do? They can't even decide what their party's name should be because they're a bureaucratic morass.

Tired of being harassed by annoying leftist hippies? Do you think people shouldn't be forced to protect the environment, should be able to do whatever they want as long as it doesn't hurt other and doesn't make others not able to do the same thing? And do you *gasp* think people should be able to own guns?

Liberals consider you uncompassionate environment killers. Fellow party members consider you a friend.

Join the Taijitu Libertarian Party today!

Paid for by the people who really, really, don't like liberals.

Why that advertisement fails:

Quote
Tired of being harassed by annoying leftist hippies
There is no hippy party in Taijitu.  Furthermore, hippies are a branch of primitivism and are opposed by socialists, who are modernizers.

Where is the environment of the internet?

Quote
And do you *gasp* think people should be able to own guns
Big guns exist on the internet?  Where?

There's probably more that I could critique, but I'm laughing too much.

1. I'm not responding to the communist party, or whatever you choose to be called once your bureaucracy stops arguing.

2 and 3. A political party is a group of people with similar ideologies. There's also no economy or opportunity to implement communism on the Internet, but I'm not knocking you for that. If every ideology had to be related to the internet, none would exist because the Internet is not a planet with issues to worry about.

1. still, there is no hippie organization in Taijitu.  You must be responding to somebody.

2, 3. Wrong.  Every ideology can be applied to the internet, if one ignores the issues it faces in real life and adopts its basic principles to the problems it encounters on the Internet.  Communism, for example, is concerned primarily with collective ownership and democratic management of the means of production.  Applying that to Taijitu, and you see demands for ever more democratic government, Senate, rather than Ministerial control over the Bank, a voluntary Tai-sharing scheme, and probably more that I could come up with if I thought it through properly.

I'll leave the definition of Libertarian Party's issues to an actual member.

Taijitan is the proper adjective ;)

And on more serious business, to G-C's question, I've just gone and started talk on space for political parties. Potentially parties and other civic organizations would be afforded their own forum space with moderation powers within it.

And go Moderate Party!

*Points at political compass scores*

The Party has had its Charter's first Awesome Draft ready for many an hour, but I'm waiting for one of our founding members to approve of it.

As for the boards, I sure hope we do.

EDIT: Prag, no, it isn't.

When do you think the boards will be set up?

I vote for Taijituan. It rolls off the tongue, unlike "Taijitan".

And GC:

I'm always right. Don't argue, just agree. Just look at my title:

"Foolproof and Incapable of Error".

But if you really need Libertarian Party issues, here's some:

Pressing for no forum censorship, aside from cybersex and stuff. That's dreamhost rules.
Allowing anyone to vote on Senate issues/minimal bureaucracy.
If the tai is fiat, making it hard (I don't know economics, so maybe the tai is a hard currency, or maybe that point is moot on the internet.)
Never allowing any nation to be forced to join the Taijitu army, but I really hope that'd never be discussed in the first place.
Allowing people to post anything they want in their signatures, and express their ideology (For instance, if a neo-nazi joined Taijitu, allowing him or her to express their opinions, no matter how racist they may be)

Tai-Ji-Tu-An?  Why bother with the extra syllable?  Tai-Ji-Tan sounds ever so much better.

Pronounced Tai-ji-tu-an is better then Tai-ji-tan.

Taijituan has a bit of a Star Wars flavor.  Not that I have any opinion either way.  And then there's always Tiajituian.  Which is just weird.  Okay, I'll shuddup now.

Both can be abbreviated as Taiji, so let's use that.

back to the point in hand, I have seen several attempts in NS to work a party political system. I have never seen it work, and would be really interested if anyone could point me to a region where they have a working party system.

The main reason they do not work, is that a party system is adversarial, and you need a large number of participants on all sides to keep the parties in balance and to keep the activity and interest level up. Parties also require idealogical differences, or they just become matters of personality. I am not sure Taijitu has the number of senators, or spectrum of (Taijituan) political ideology to make this a runner.

Flem!  I am absolutely shocked.  We run the gamut here between Communists and Objectivists!

why don't we allow both ways, people that like taijitan or taijituan could enjoy 'rolling out of the thong', although english is not proper for this kind of things.

ending in U, Taijitu would fall more like Zulu, and so Taijitus, or Taijis, but i agree used taijitan for being quite easier than taijituan, it's like calling someone from Angola Angoluan, or Iraniuan, the last letter is really out of this world, but blame whoever thought about it 1st.

would sound better taijitian

That's not even close to being the same thing. Where'd the "u" in Angoluan come from?

There is no need for officiality. After all, "anything that can be understood as English is English."

Taijitu, I am very pleased at the reception of this. Thank you.

Soly.

Well truth be told, I was thinking I might hold off a bit until more people had picked their parties, just to make sure I'd choose one that had people with my own sentiments, but...

what PUR just said has convinced me.  Why wait?  Get in early and grab the comfy chair!

EDIT -- I just checked the party roster.  Silly me, of course that's where I belong!

Also, it's definitely better as Taijituan.  ;)
