NationStates 2: Coming Soon!

by Max Barry

I know a bunch of you just choked on your wheat flakes, but it's true: NationStates 2 is happening. It's taken five years of discussion, plans, tears, hopes, trials, and floundering, but at last it's come together: I have the right people working on the right design.

Five years ago, I created this site, NationStates, in my spare time, never expecting it to find the popularity it has. I actually designed it to be a passing fancy, something you might find fun for a little while, then move on.

With NS2, the design from day one has been all about longer-term gameplay. While the core principles of NationStates haven't changed—micromanagement is still a dirty word, diplomacy is the focus, and customization rules—NS2 greatly expands your nation's ability to affect its world. It's all about giving you top-level control and letting you take your nation wherever the hell you want.

I'm thrilled about this. I hope you are, too. For more information, including an NS2 FAQ, check out www.nationstates2.com.

When? WHEN??
Later in 2008. A beta version is also planned for shortly prior to launch.

What?
NS2 is a sequel to NationStates, taking the nation sim game we know and love and injecting it with with major new features, such as War, Trade, Alliances, and greater customization.

How much?
NS2 will be free-to-play. However you can also upgrade your account, which will grant access to premium features, or even purchase these features on a one-off basis, via credit card, SMS/text message, and PayPal.

Who?
OMAC Industries is developing and will run NS2. The game was designed by Max Barry, creator of NationStates.

What about NationStates 1?
This doesn't affect the current NationStates site. NS2 will be a new, additional game — not a replacement for NS1.

Can I transfer my nation to NS2?
Prior to launch, all NationStates players will be invited to reserve their nation's name in NS2. This is not a transfer, in that your NS1 nation won't move: you simply have first opportunity to create a new nation in NS2 with the same name. Statistics such as population and industry sizes will not carry over: all nations will start afresh. However, you can import the three main freedom metrics: personal, economic and political, if you choose.

How can I find out more?
Stay tuned to www.nationstates2.com.

But I've been telling everyone NS2 would never get off the ground!
You must feel a bit silly, then.

Wasn't it decided that NS2 would be a pay to play browser game?

Ew, just read the FAQ. I don't think I would play this. Games with premium features tend to be extremely unbalanced.

Yeah, that does seem like a bad idea.  NS2 is probably badly needed, considering the slowdown in the original game, but still... ah, well.

If this is a delayed April Fools, it's the best one till now, but I doubt it is.
Yes, there will be a NationStates 2 and yes, the present NS will also be left alive.

Check THIS(click me damn it!) (http://www.nationstates2.net/) out and sign up to be updated on the release of the beta version and the rest.

I personally cannot wait to trade with other nations and give them rotten timber and horseshit as perfectly good clay for perfectly fine stone and iron.

Also check the FAQ (http://www.nationstates2.net/faq.php) for more info and Max Barry humor.

In his own words: Stay tuned to www. nationstates2.com.

Let the games begin.

... I mean the discussions.
