Getting more people on the forums
« on: April 22, 2012, 05:40:04 AM »
Hello all,

I'm sure all of you recognize the need for considerably more people on the forums. Although from what I gather, there is a generally low percentage of NS nations that actually do register on offsite forums, but honestly, our rate, from what I can tell, is unacceptably dismal.  I just think that for one thing, our telegrams should push the forums a bit more, because the telegram I got said nothing about the forums, and I almost didn't sign up. As I said, I'm sure you all recognize this, and those of you recruiting understand that more people need to be signing up, so basically I am just making this thread to suggest that you indicate that there are forums a bit more in your mass telegrams, and also, anyone can reply here for more suggestions on how to get people to sign up. Hopefully together, we can get Taijitu really back on its feet, and turn it into the vibrant community it once was.

I couldn't agree more. Maybe we could advertise the forums on the RMB regularly, even if it does interrupt the silly counting to 10,000 game.

I also agree. The Senate has somewhat been thinking of ways to do this.

Well, hopefully the Senate gets something together soon and we can develop a thriving community.

Well, there are two big things that we ultimately want to do. The first would be to increase the overall number of people we're recruiting. Right now we're only consistently recruiting from a few feeders.

Secondly, we should try to personally message every new nation that shows up automatically telling them about the forums. Right now I've been doing it manually, but it's imperfect, and I miss some nations.

Both of these things would require help from Eluvatar since they're technical, so I could try and harangue him into planning some time for it. Until that can happen, posting on the RMB regularly might not be a bad idea. Likewise, should we try to make the link to the forum on the WFE more obvious?

I think it would be helpful to make registration to the forums a bit more emphasized on the WFE.

I strongly recommend having a Minister of the Community (there might be one?) to make sure the forums stay active.

The forums are reasonably quiet, especially compared to others I am involved in (but i must note this is a smaller region).

Putting more of a focus on the forums in the WFE is a start, but it is only a small part of what needs to be done. I personally don't think that AutoTG works all that well. They seem largely impersonal, and most people just brush them off as typical spam. It would be good if we could make these recruitment posts seem more personal, so that hopefully we can get a better response from those we TG.

Likewise, new nations that decide to join taijitu, instead of the usual WELCOME TO THE REGION etc. It would be nice if we could try and connect on a personal level, and try and establish some friendships. This would require effort and time, but even if we were able to recruit 5-10 active contributors to the forum, i feel it would make a big difference.

The Minister of the Community is a good idea.

Well autoTG is probably going to be banned again soon, but as to its effectiveness, it has definitely worked in recruitment. Since we haven't been using it or Toaster to also message new arrivals and encourage them to come onto the forums, we have no idea how effective it would be there. And while connecting on a personal level is good, you do have to send some telegram to open a conversation up, and it's not that often a nation has something obvious about it which you can immediately jump to.

What worked in 2007 was lots of people logging on to toaster1 often to send telegrams, and a vibrant and active community here on the forum and the RMB once they got here.

My brain just hatched an idea! When new nations join the region, someone (probably me) should tg them wlecoming them in a more personalized message, and encouraging them to join the forums and irc, as those are 2 very important aspects.

RP section seems dead, we need more players to get roleplay going again!

And I agree with Funkadelia, that's what attracted me to this forum in the first place when Dixie mentioned it in his region invite back in the day.

Agreed. School work has been keeping me from posting, but I'm almost done D:
