Aqualung - Can't Get You Out of My Mind

Wow, that's beautiful too.  Is that on Strange and Beautiful or Memory Man?

Aqualung...bless you, Alana.
"I believe every single person is extraordinary. The tragedy is that we
have a society where too many people never get to fulfill that
extraordinary potential. My view – the liberal view – is that
government’s job is to help them to do it. Not to tell people how to
live their lives. But to make their choices possible, to release their
potential, no matter who they are. The way to do that is to take power away from those who hoard it. To challenge vested interests. To break down privilege. To clear out the bottlenecks in our society that block opportunity and block progress. And so give everyone a chance to live the life they want." - Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Neither, actually.  It's on Aqualung, his first album from back in 2002.  :wb:

:o  I didn't even know that one existed!  I'll have to find it.

My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew
He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad
You know I'm gonna be like you"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home dad?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

My son turned ten just the other day
He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today
I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok"
And he walked away but his smile never dimmed
And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

Well, he came home from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
"Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head and said with a smile
"What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later, can I have them please?"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time
You see my new job's a hassle and kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad
It's been sure nice talking to you"

And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then.

All that you touch
All that you see
All that you taste
All you feel
All that you love
All that you hate
All you distrust
All you save
All that you give
All that you deal
All that you buy
beg, borrow or steal
All you create
All you destroy
All that you do
All that you say
All that you eat
everyone you meet
All that you slight
everyone you fight
All that is now
All that is gone
All that's to come
And everything under the sun is in tune
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon.
There is no dark side of the moon really.
Matter of fact it's all dark.

Us, and Them.
And after all, we're only ordinary men.
Me, and you.
God only knows, it's not what we would choose
To do.

"Forward!" he cried, from the rear, and the front rank died.
Generals sat, and the lines on the map, moved from side to side.

Black, and blue.
And who knows which is which
And who is who.
Up, and down.
And in the end, its only round and round. And round.

Haven't you heard?
It's a battle of words.
The poster bearer cried.
"Listen, son", said the man with the gun.
"There's room for you inside."

"I mean, they're not gonna kill ya, so if you give em a quick short,
Sharp, shock, they wont do it again. Dig it? I mean he get off
Lightly, 'cause I wouldve given him a thrashing - I only hit him once!
It was only a difference of opinion, but really...I mean good manners
Dont cost nothing do they, eh?"

Down, and out.
It can't be helped,
If there's a lot of it about.
With, without.
And who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about?
Out of the way, a busy day
I've got things on my mind.
For want of the price of tea and a slice
The old man died.

Van Morrison › Moondance

Well, its a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fabulous night to make romance
neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the nights magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush

Can I just have one a more moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with a-you, my love

Well, I wanna make love to you tonight
I cant wait til the morning has come
And I know that the time is just right
And straight into my arms you will run
And when you come my heart will be waiting
To make sure that you're never alone
There and then all my dreams will come true, dear
There and then I will make you my own
And every time I touch you, you just tremble inside
And I know how much you want me that you cant hide

Can I just have one a more moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with a-you, my love

Well, its a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fabulous night to make romance
neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the nights magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush

One more moondance with you in the moonlight
On a magic night
La, la, la, la in the moonlight
On a magic night

Cant I just have one more dance with you my love?

I've fallen in love with A Fine Frenzy's album, One Cell in the Sea, and this song (along with the unmatched "Almost Lover") stands out due to its lyrics.  Each song is great, often due to the impassioned singing of Alison Sudol, but this song stands out before you've ever listened to it.

A Fine Frenzy - Rangers

the paths have been crossed
the crumbs are gone
and the way and the way is lost
melancholy phantoms eye our skins
poisoned apples falling with the wind
hear the sigh of the trees
those who enter here never leave

and the rangers stream
out of their cabins
they are the hunters,
we are the rabbits
but maybe we don’t want to be found
maybe we don’t want to be found

further in and on we go
sightless creatures tugging at our clothes
cutting through the twilight, sword in hand
strangers once, united against the land
at the sound of the bells
they’re pulling paper lanterns from their shelves

and the rangers stream
out of their cabins
they are the hunters,
we are the rabbits
and maybe we don’t want to be found
maybe we don’t want you tracking us down

the rangers stream
out of their cabins
raising their muskets,
flashing their badges
but maybe we don’t want to be found
maybe we don’t want to be found

let’s keep hiding, all quiet-like
they’ll keep seeking but they won’t find us
let’s keep living our quiet lives
you and I
you and I

and the rangers stream
out of their cabins
they are the hunters,
we are the rabbits
and maybe we don’t want to be found
maybe we don’t want you tracking us down

the rangers stream
out of their cabins
raising their muskets,
flashing their badges
but maybe we don’t want to be found
maybe we don’t want to be found

"Life During Wartime" - Talking Heads

Heard of a van that is loaded with weapons
packed up and ready to go
Heard of some gravesites, out by the highway
a place where nobody knows
The sound of gunfire, off in the distance
I'm getting used to it now
Lived in a brownstone, lived in the ghetto
I've lived all over this town

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
this ain't no fooling around
No time for dancing, or lovey dovey
I ain't got time for that now

Transmit the message, to the receiver
hope for an answer some day
I got three passports, couple of visas
don't even know my real name
High on a hillside, trucks are loading
everything's ready to roll
I sleep in the daytime, I work in the nightime
I might not ever get home

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
this ain't no fooling around
This ain't no mudd club, or C. B. G. B.
I ain't got time for that now

Heard about Houston? Heard about Detroit?
Heard about Pittsburgh, PA?
You oughta know not to stand by the window
somebody might see you up there
I got some groceries, some peanut butter
to last a couple of days
But I ain't got no speakers
ain't got no headphones
ain't got no records to play

Why stay in college? Why go to night school?
Gonna be different this time?
Can't write a letter, can't send a postcard
I can't write nothing at all
This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
this ain't no fooling around
I'd love you hold you, I'd like to kiss you
I ain't got no time for that now

Trouble in transit, got through the roadblock
we blended in with the crowd
We got computers, we're tapping phone lines
I know that ain't allowed
We dress like students, we dress like housewives
or in a suit and a tie
I changed my hairstyle so many times now
don't know what I look like!
You make me shiver, I feel so tender
we make a pretty good team
Don't get exhausted, I'll do some driving
you ought to get you some sleep
Get you instructions, follow directions
then you should change your address
Maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day
whatever you think is best
Burned all my notebooks, what good are notebooks?
They won't help me survive
My chest is aching, burns like a furnace
the burning keeps me alive
Try to stay healthy, physical fitness
don't want to catch no disease
Try to be careful, don't take no chances
you better watch what you say

Belle & Sebastian - "There's Too Much Love"

I could hang about and burn my fingers
I've been hanging out here waiting for something to start
You think I'm faultless to a 't'
My manner set impeccably
But underneath I am the same as you

I could dance all night like I'm a soul boy
But I know I'd rather drag myself across the dance floor
I feel like dancing on my own
Where no one knows me, and where I
Can cause offense just by the way I look

And when I come to blows
When I am numbering my foes
Just hope that you are on my side my dear

But it's best to finish as it started
With my face head down just staring at the brown formica
It's safer not to look around
I can't hide my feelings from you now
There's too much love to go around these days

You say I've got another face
That's not a fault of mine these days
I'm honest, brutal and afraid of you

This is a song by Stevie Wonder back when he was really good

Summer soft...
Wakes you up with a kiss to start the morning off
In the midst of herself playing Santa Claus
She brings gifts through her breeze

Morning rain...
Gently plays her rythms on your window pane
Giving you no clue of when she plans to change
To bring rain or sunshine

And so you wait to see what she'll do
Is it sun or rain for you
But it breaks your heart in two
When you find it's October

And she's gone
And she's gone
Summer's gone
Taking with her summer's play

Winter wind...
Whispers to you that he wants to be your friend
But not waiting for your answer ne begins
Forcing dangers 'way with his breeze

Morning snow...
Plans to have a winter ball for you to throw
But just where or when he never lets you know
If it's snow or clear days you'll find

And so you wait to see what he'll do
Is it sun or snow for you
But it breaks your heart in two
Cause you've been fooled by April

And he's gone
And he's gone
Winter's gone

You find it's October
And she's gone
And she's gone
Summer's gone

You've been fooled by April
And she's gone
And she's gone
Winter's gone

You find it's October
And she's gone
And she's gone
Summer's gone

You've been fooled by April
And she's gone
And she's gone
Winter's gone

"Deacon Blues" - Steely Dan

This is the day
Of the expanding man
That shape is my shade
There where I used to stand
It seems like only yesterday
I gazed through the glass
At ramblers
Wild gamblers
That's all in the past

You call me a fool
You say it's a crazy scheme
This one's for real
I already bought the dream
So useless to ask me why
Throw a kiss and say goodbye
I'll make it this time
I'm ready to cross that fine line

I'll learn to work the saxophone
I'll play just what I feel
Drink Scotch whisky all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world
I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
Call me Deacon Blues

My back to the wall
A victim of laughing chance
This is for me
The essence of true romance
Sharing the things we know and love
With those of my kind
Libations
Sensations
That stagger the mind

I crawl like a viper
Through these suburban streets
Make love to these women
Languid and bittersweet
I'll rise when the sun goes down
Cover every game in town
A world of my own
I'll make it my home sweet home

I'll learn to work the saxophone
I'll play just what I feel
Drink Scotch whisky all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world
I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
Call me Deacon Blues

This is the night
Of the expanding the man
I take one last drag
As I approach the stand
I cried when I wrote this song
Sue me if I play too long
This brother is free
I'll be what I want to be

I'll learn to work the saxophone
I'll play just what I feel
Drink Scotch whisky all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world
I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
Call me Deacon Blues
