We have had a favorite genre thread. The next logical step is to have a favorite bands thread. If your an idiot and can't figure out what you need to do here gtfo. That being said my favorite bands are Pink Floyd, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and..........and........................Depeche Mode. I am very embarrassed to say that.

It's alright. I am probably worse, knowing precious little about even my favorite type of music. So, to make you look better (by stating the truth), my favorite "bands" (if you can call them that) are Yanni, The Real Group, The Manhattan Transfer, and The King's Singers. Yea, classical and vocal!
Music is the key to the heart.

"Once art to me was something far off, unfathomable and unreachable... But I discovered that the real essence of art was not something high up and far off, it was right inside my ordinary daily self. If a musician wants to be a fine artist, he must first become a finer person. A work of art is the expression of a person's whole personality, sensibility, and ability." -Shinichi Suzuki

I thought of some more!

Aqualung, Cat Power, Daft Punk, David Bowie (DUH, me!), Frou Frou, Imogen Heap, Interpol, Modest Mouse, Radiohead, Say Hi To Your Mom, Simon & Garfunkel, Frank Sinatra, Steeleye Span, The Arcade Fire, The Beatles, The Cranberries, The Decemberists, The Fiery Furnaces, The Flaming Lips, The Pogues, The Shins, Wilco, Yo La Tengo

Maybe I have curbed my desire to name bands I love, for now?

HOW THE HELL COULD I FORGET HIS UNBELIEVABLE SEXINESS THE GEORGE MICHAEL?

EDIT: Well, if you can mention individual musicians, then Marit Larsen and probably Marion Raven are on my list as well. Kyuun-tte!

Ooh, ooh, with commentaries:
Will Smith, because the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air always makes me laugh;
Robbie Williams, because he actually makes decent pop;
Yoko Kanno / Gabriela Robin, because she has such cute and emotion-instilling songs;
Blind Guardian, because I enjoy the occasional melodramatic element in music;
Busta Rhymes, because he has a good voice and raps about something other than "da hood" and "bitches and hoes;"
Coolio, a given;
Tool, provider of the official Super Mario Kart 64 soundtrack;
Lacuna Coil, because - when I feel like it - they have a good general sound;
the Red Army Choir, because come on!;
Meatloaf's such a cuddly old man;
Metallica, because they take themselves so seriously and I need occasional aggression;
Modern Talking, because they make me laugh all the time;
Placebo tempts the emokid within me. Plus their songs are generally pretty cute;
Protomen's a Megaman tribute band. 'nuff said;
t.A.T.u., *ducks and hides*;
Tom Jones, *laughs*;
Some Eurovision artists, *laughs harder*;
Savage Garden is pretty adorable;
James Brown!;
Press Play On Tape, because they played Monkey Island in London;
Michael Jackson, because he has catchy songs and he's a great dancer;
Weird Al's parodical tunes occasionally amuse me;
Queen, which is a given as well;
Absoluuttinen Nollapiste, a Finnish band with weeeeird lyrics.

I think that's it, for now.

In mostly alphabetical order, since I just scrolled through my iPod (except for the first four, who are clearly at the top, above the rest),

Regina Spektor
Evanescence
Jem
Rob Thomas

KT Tunstall
Bon Jovi
Maroon 5 (I HATE their first album but, surprisingly, rather like their second)
Pink...I'm as ashamed of this as you think I should be, but I saw her open for another act, and she had a ton of those "I love that song, but I didn't know that was her!" songs.
Fall Out Boy (go ahead, call me shallow)
The Killers (see directly above)
Aqualung
Coldplay
Dropkick Murphys
The Fratellis
The Fray (surprisingly good music...give them a chance, just avoid Over My Head...it sucks as a first single)
Goldfinger
Kanye West
Linkin Park
Ludacris
Michael Buble
My Chemical Romance
Nobuo Uematsu (composer; Final Fantasy, many others)
Harry Gregson-Williams (composer, Metal Gear)
The Postal Service
Snow Patrol
U2
Vitamin C
"Weird Al" Yankovic
Yellowcard
William Hung (nothing is a surer laugh)
"I believe every single person is extraordinary. The tragedy is that we
have a society where too many people never get to fulfill that
extraordinary potential. My view – the liberal view – is that
government’s job is to help them to do it. Not to tell people how to
live their lives. But to make their choices possible, to release their
potential, no matter who they are. The way to do that is to take power away from those who hoard it. To challenge vested interests. To break down privilege. To clear out the bottlenecks in our society that block opportunity and block progress. And so give everyone a chance to live the life they want." - Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
