Title: Cybersecurity
Post by: Wast on September 03, 2012, 08:31:32 PM
I know I'm rather late to this, but information seems to be lacking. What is going on with the "Cybersecurity Act of 2012" (apparently defeated in Congress in early August) and this call to halfheartedly apply it by executive order (link (http://www.feinstein.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ContentRecord_id=8c64f8e4-6780-4a4f-88eb-cd26a8839aae))?

How much of a threat do cyber-attacks actually pose, and is the US actually prepared to deal with them? Does anyone know if the administration is seriously considering action (outside of legislation), and to what extent?

I am worried because our Strategic Internet Kitteh Reserve may be vulnerable :(.

It wasn't that major, and estonia was already well protected. Cyber attacks are happening every day, there's even task forces for counter-cyber, but there'sno need to be paranoid. They want to sell you fear, make you paranoid, so they can have more power and control. This cyber attacks only affect "THEM", there's a possibility of attack on public networks but they're normally pretty simple and pretty secure, what they want to protect is banks, big companies, petrol and stock exchange markets from cyber attacks.

My bottom line is, don't worry, Al Qaeda won't train people to make your toaster kill you, they have better things to do, and so does hackers from all over the world.

All I understood from this thread was something about Estonian Kittehs using toasters to kill you.
