Christmas!
« on: December 18, 2007, 09:45:54 PM »
It's that time of year again. Yes, the time for gift giving, holiday dinners... and bitter cynicism. What is Christmas? Is it a religious celebration, a cultural holiday, a consumerist conspiracy? There's cynicism abound just before the festivities.

So, I ask, how is Christmas?

All of the above.  And, I am a bit cynical, as my current forum name indicates.  :)

Why not. We could sell his tears on EBay.

Hm, for me, Christmas is the holiday of capitalism; I'm not religious and don't really care that Jesus was born on that day; if he had existed, his birth was not of importance, but his actions were.

What's about celebrating at 4th January? It's the birthday of Sir Isaac Newton. From my point of view, his discoveries were much more important than some religious stuff.

Jesus wasn't born on Christmas; the Bible says that he was born when the sheep were out and about, and sheep don't wander around in the middle of December.
