Also, I think English needs to have a gender-neutral pronoun that doesn't sound demeaning the way 'it' does.  Who's with me?"

I read that one as well, and loved it!  At the moment I'm reading The Dark Mirror by Juliet Marillier, Streams of Silver (the second book in R.A. Salvatore's Dark Elf trilogy, through which I am determined to slog no matter how pedestrian the writing), and I'm going through the first four volumes of a manga I got for free (!) ...Kamichama Karin.  The shame!
