Inglo-Scotia's Senatorial Campaign
« on: June 01, 2011, 07:08:26 PM »
I'm officially announcing my candidacy for the Taijitu Senate.

I've held a few positions in the Taijitu government. Minister of Finance and Vice Delegate being the two most high-profile ones. I was also a Senator though. Honestly, I want to help rebuild this region in whatever way that I can, I feel that I can best do that in the Senate, where ideas for reconstruction can be discussed, debated, and moulded into actual policy. I'm very happy to be back, and I hope the fine voters of this region will trust me with a Senatorial seat so that I may help make this region a special place again.

Same question I asked the other two candidates. What role do you feel the senate should play in shaping the region?

The Senate's role is that of lawmaker. Sounds obvious, but let me explain.
The Delegate is the executive of the region but that does not mean that he/she is a lawmaker. He/she exists, within the realm of legislation, as a law enforcer. It's the Senate's place to draft the laws that the Delegate enforces.
Does this mean that the Delegate should get no say in the drafting of legislation? Not at all. He/she holds the right of veto, for one. Secondly the Delegate is free to pursue legislative agendas he/she believes in, but the key is that even then that agenda must be debated and voted on in the Senate.
Also I feel the Senate is a forum of philosophical discourse. The Senate is the perfect forum to debate the intricacies of the mechanics of regional government, as well as a forum for the discussion and debate of political theory relevant to the region's Constitution and government.

Beyond merely passing legislation, how do you feel the senate can improve the region?

The Senate offers a forum for the genius of ideas. I believe that it's in the Senate that ideas for improving and rebuilding this region will be born. Either you or Elu will have your own ideas, to be sure. The Senate, however, would work for create a group dynamic that gathers ideas from a number of points of view and distill them to workable, and hopefully unorthodox, ideas that when used in combination with the Delegate's own ideas will be used to rebuild the region.

2. Ouagadougou.
3. Neo Bigtopia and The Lexicon. I donno.
5. Pig Latin.

17. In 1935 the Prime Minister of Canada and Conservative Party leader R.B. Bennett proposed a Canadian version of FDR's New Deal to help combat the Depression. This marked the entry of progressive policies into the Conservative Party platform. In 1942 John Bracken, leader of the Progressive Party of Manitoba, led his supporters into the Conservative Party. The party officially changed its name to the Progressive Conservative Party, a name it held until it merged with the neo-conservative Reform Alliance in 2003 to form the current Conservative Party of Canada. The name is now used to distinguish "red Tory" conservatives who's conservative policies are more in line with British One Nation Conservatism then the American-influenced neo-conservatism.
19. Even numbers.
23. Sean O'Sullivan. He gave up a promising future in the Progressive Conservative Party to be a Catholic Priest. As a Tory myself I can say he made the right choice. Damn Trudeau.
29. The Sentence Game.
