This guy was pretty weird, bizarre costumes and all.  Once you get past the weirdness, though, his music is really pretty catchy.  Klaus Nomi played a big part in the New Wave movement of the early 80's that gave us stuff like Talking Heads and Peter Gabriel, all great music, and he was sort of sponsored by David Bowie.  I have his self-titled album, pretty interesting overall.

He's an excellent singer, too.  Apparently he sang a lot of operatic stuff while decked out in his outer space suits.

he also studied at RISD. which makes him familiar to my state.
