Title: Anime
Post by: Delfos on November 18, 2007, 05:10:48 AM
What are the best Anime movies you know?

I love the classics, Akira beats all.

I used to follow the award winning Anime movies, there was one i liked:
* Blood, The Last Vampire (Swords+Blood)
trailer: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tYnciEGup9k
Well it has allot of blood (i love that), was really well drawn and mounted from photography. But the story had some childish concepts, i would give credit for it since it's an anime, if it didn't had that much blood, i don't think it's quite appropriated for children.

Then i lost contact and didn't watch anime for long time, and then again tried to get my old habit of following the awarded ones. I saw a really good one, very well drawn:
* Grave of the Fireflies (Japan WWII)
trailer: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9_KCRIDbEXM

Then i tried to follow some more and had a tip:
* Howls Moving Castle (fantasy+princess+witches+kingdom)
trailer: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9hbntEofuT0
-First let me tell you, dubbed trailer, dubbed movie? haha I've pity on you, I've watch the original one, get subtitles.
-Second, never mind, the movie is so bloody fantasy, which would be great if it didn't had a deep childish love story in the middle. Do you know how they ruined a perfectly good aviation movie like Pearl Harbor with a love story in between? Imagine it 10x worse and it will ruin the fantasy of the movie.
-Third, the plot is actually very small, it tries to establish relatedness with people around the prime character, something happens and bang! cursed with no excuse. Not fair! The rest i can't tell but it is really very small.
-Forth, so much animation and imagination and they can't make better drawings? Even Akira was better in that matter, if you want indisputable award make better drawings for your mother's sake.
-Fifth, well, moving beyond the plot and other blown skill, this movie actually has great environment. As in, everything is well portrayed to the thinnest detail, this is really rare in common anime, and probably worth the award

The gundam series can be good if you're just looking for giant robots blowing shit up. It also makes for a fun drinking game, every time you see the same explosion used again you drink. Boo yah!

Ah, girls, don't think girls are angels, they are the worse devils on earth. Get some action out of them, they really love it.

Good ones: Ghost in the Shell (and the second one), anything and everything Miyazaki has ever done, the Kenshin movies, and a bunch more I can't think of just now.  Mental block time!  *dances*

Samurai Champloo pwns!

Series:
yeah samurai Champloo is awesome
Hack sign is really good what I've seen of it
Chobbits is quite good what I've seen of it, and the manga makes the rest of the series look good
Excel saga is awesome for the comedy value, I'm torn between liking it better dubbed or subbed
Panda-z is interesting if a bit mental
sword of the stars is good if strange (I think I've got the title right)
Dokuru-chan (I'm not sure if thats the name of the series or just the character) its insane but amusing
2x2=shinobu is also insane but fun
Death note is also good very atmospheric and the cat and mouse theme is great
Helsing (the original is for me better) dubbed as its one of the only animes where the english accents arn't annoying (maybe because they seem to be speaking english english rather then american english (and doing it properly though the gaffs on what they seem to think British culture is like are interesting))
Rozen maiden is really really good
Foolycooly is insane and I'm still not sure whether I like it generally as I was too confused.... watch it its an experience
Serial experiments laine is another one where I'm too confused to tell whether I liked it and you should watch it
onegui teacher (probably spelled that wrong) what I've seen of it is confusing but good
Gun slinger girl is good and again I'm torn between the dubbed and subbed versions I've seen
Full metal alchemist is cool and looks quite good from what I've seen (though some of it is just f***** up
Black lagoon, watch it, watch the subbed version

Films:
Appleseed is awesome and you can download the film if you have veoh (http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1510526fN9RTmBs) unfortunately its the dubbed rather then the subbed (its good dubbing on the dubbed)

Kiki's delivery service is awesome
princess monenoko also great
lagoda castels in the sky is fun as well

Serial Experiments: Lain is one of my favorites, too!  I've also seen the first 4 episodes of the DeathNote anime and was impressed, though I already know the story from reading the manga.  I also have to finish my guilty pleasure (Azumanga Daioh!) sooner or later, only having seen the beginning but having become immediately obsessed.

FoolyCooly is on my list of "must see" anime, as I've just heard too much about it to continue ignoring the series.

The manga adaptation was only 2 volumes, wasn't it?  I think someone told me the anime series was only... 6 episodes long.

I've seen FLCL, and I know it was pretty short, but I don't remember it being that short  :o

Hey Al, if FLCL is what you're looking for, check here (http://animecorner.nl/eng/anime.asp?id=flcl&id2=downloads). I don't know if they're English, Japanese, Japanese with subtitles, or what, but enjoy.

its pretty short, reasonably sure its less then 12 episodes maybe around 8 though, might be 6 I know it lasted better part of a term with 1 ep per week....

If we are doing ones you must see then find Black lagoon it is really really cool

I found a website that had loads on for free but I can't find it anymore

As for Akira... never liked it at all. but thats just me.

I use Crunchyroll for alot of my stuff, some fun things are on there.

but one I like that almost no one has heard off is
Soul Taker, great dark anime
