i really love i movie, i own it, and stuff. I was wondering bout you guys. Seen it? Own it? Love it? Hate it?
-
It was a good movie, not really as great in my opinion as some others seem to think. I like the art style of it, but the story itself was a little lacking.
-
what do you mean?
-
I mean without all the visual effects the movie would about as bland as rice pudding.
-
ok.

I was DEEPLY disappointed by this movie. Beyond being American all the way, and not minding the history inaccuracy where they could keep at bloody least legend accuracy, the action was too damn short, caring mostly to wonderful (idiotic) pictures of hugeness (of the army, of landscape, of concepts). Didn't they watch Burton's movies? couldn't they at least try to make a good movie out of this 300 bs?
Then...they chose to show blood and *some* action involving it...what a huge disappointment. It was a worse action disappointment than with Apocalyptic, i expected more blood and more action, this had really just useless action showing big spears and big shields and a bearded someone yelling whole movie, if you could give them M16 and army helmets they would really sound like those American movies promoting the army action, it just generates comments like:
"wow! nice gun!"
"give them hell, bastards!"
"Oh that's unfair, put a bullet on his forehead!"
"He's so ugly, no wonder he's the enemy, DIE!"
"yay! explosions!"
"OH NOEZ! they killed his father! REVENGE!" (i can't remember who died)
Shortly, I would rather watch ice melting.

your anti-amercianms is showing.

300 may not have faithfully represented the actual Battle of Thermopylae, but it conveyed the right message, that a group of 300 Spartans did indeed defeat a massive army of Persians. That's not American propaganda, that actually happened.
300 is simply an artistic interpretation of a real historical event. Now it's true that while stylizing the story a lot of historical facts were ignored or rewritten.
It doesn't bother me that much though, as 1) the movie conveyed the right message concerning the historical event, and 2) there's a movie called 300 Spartans from the 1960's that inspired Frank Miller to draw the original 300 comic. 300 Spartans is more historically accurate, and both have different ways of making you appreciate the same historic event.
Oh, and Gerard Butler rocks. Anyone who can play both King Leonidas and Erik, the Phantom from The Phantom of the Opera deserves an award for greatest actor ever. Can't wait to see him as Snake in the remake of Escape From New York.
Of course if you loved 300 you'll love 1776 ;D

Well spotted, Bara.
Shortly, I would rather watch ice melting.
But melting ice rarely kicks ass.

Delfos, it's not pro-American at all, you idiot. Considering the word "America" isn't once-said in the movie, I don't think that it can be pro-American. And even if it was, is that bad? Or does it have to be everyone sitting in a circle sining Kumbayah for you to like it?
By the way, 300 is one of the few good movies made in recent years.

How else will Micheal row the boat ashore?
-
Wow, everything I hate in the world, all in one thread. Wait, no Gov, nvm.
-
who said that?

The name of the poster is on the left you realize ;)

Beyond being American all the way
stating the ONLY and OBVIOUS cinema influence
like those American movies promoting the army action
also influence but mainly because Americans are the ones that have that type of movie in culture.
Since those are the only references I've made to America, I don't see where the hell i said something anti-American. Now whenever i mention anything American and people just don't want to understand anything i say. It's not a problem of language, I'm not a master in English but I'm quite skillful for non-primary language, and if you do not understand it's because you're not willing to: That means ignorance.
Stating further, I actually like those army action movies the Americans do, but if I want to see a movie like that, I wouldn't like to see Spartans in skirts with big spears and shields yelling all the time fighting against handicap enemies.
-
Delfos, I'm not sure how pragmatics work in Portuguese, but in English if you say "I was DEEPLY disappointed by this movie." and then immediately say "Beyond being American all the way," really the only way to interpret that is that "I was disappointed in the movie partly because it was American." That is to say, anti-Americanism. It's not that people are refusing to understand you or being ignorant. People are just making the only interpretation that's possible based on what you've said. Not to mention that it's being said by you, who has never been shy to make his anti-American attitudes well known on the forums. So if you have indeed been misunderstood then it is a problem of language, so don't go around labeling everyone as ignorant and closed minded just because of it.
I also find it funny that anyone ever expected historical accuracy from that movie.
-
I actually like those army action movies the Americans do
I've had it with your pro-american propaganda :-P

Delfos, I'm not sure how pragmatics work in Portuguese, but in English if you say "I was DEEPLY disappointed by this movie." and then immediately say "Beyond being American all the way,"
There's a period "point" in between those sentences, in Portuguese, and I assume anywhere in the world, when you say something like 'Beyond' after a point that Beyond will have to do with the rest of the sentence. Notice i didn't sat 'being American', but 'being American all the way', I wasn't referring it was made by Americans, I was stating the looks and influence of the movie. Sean Penn makes movies that look like Swedish expressionist movies, as example, and he makes movies in America with Americans, nothing to do one thing to the other.
Beyond being American all the way, and not minding the history inaccuracy where they could keep at bloody least legend accuracy, the action was too damn short, caring mostly to wonderful (idiotic) pictures of hugeness (of the army, of landscape, of concepts).

I'm talking about a movie here...
Taco I'm sorry, sometimes i like those movies. I must admit i rather the ones doing the opposite, actually with allegoric critics, Apocalypse Now, Born in 4th of July, etc.

Meh. I was just bugging you from the other end of the spectrum ;)
-
and I was joking about it.
-
Then everybody wins
:congrats:
-
yes, that's the fantasy of Internet, we can joke at everything we know and they will always be pissed off thinking we were serious.
If you figure out ice melting doesn't kick ass, then...
-
then someone gets their ass kicked by melting ice
-
i got my assed kick by ice...i slipped on it...
-
I melt ice
-

Exactly.

then someone gets their ass kicked by melting ice
(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b68/IC79/titanic-movie.jpg) ;D
-
I was going to use Titanic reference instead of the ice melting...but then some might like Titanic and think I was saying 300 was a good movie...
-
i didnt like the movie. Too many dead people....
-
You must have hated sixth sense then :-P
-

The kid looks like a stoner who is in that High period, and the guy needs a shave, and he is loseing his hair.

It seems very irresponsible of them to claim to be the #1 thriller of all time

Don't judge a movie by it's cover.
-
It's not "in that high period", it's just "high".

*Starts talking in a refined british accent*
Yes yes, but i am a refined gentlemen, so i have to use such advanced vocabulary. For if i do not, me and my gentlemen friend would be looked down on as savage, and crude.
*Goes back to talking like bara*
Stabyy stabby.
-
The Sixth Sense is a really good film :D
It would probably scare you Bara.
-
that reminds me of when i was 9 or something. I was with my friends, and we got freaked out from watching Scary Moive 3. and i got pee poured on my head that night.
-
and i got pee poured on my head that night.
TMI Bara..... TMI
-
no really! we were too scared to go into the bath room, so we peed in Gatorade bottles. i was just the unlucky one to fall asleep first.
-
What a great story.
-
Bara, how have you never heard of The Sixth Sense? It's a modern classic! Same guy did Signs, an other favourite of mine, at least until Mel Gibson went nuts :(
And yes, Titanic was one giant piece of over-rated rubbish. It shouldn't take two hours to get to the ice berg!
-
I like the sequel to Titanic in which it turns out the ship escaped and became the head of oil and automotive companies in an elaborate plot to cause global warming and take it's revenge on the icebergs.
-
I'd watch that.
-
Coming back to the topic of it all, how about 300, except that it's on the Titanic?
-
They're basically the same movie.
-
execpt ons on land, the other is in Freaking Cold!
-
It can get cold on land
-
i hate the cold.
-
I love the cold.
And don't compare 300 to Titanic.
That's like comparing 2001: A Space Odyssey to Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium.
-
::) ::) Maybe they are alike.
-
And don't compare 300 to Titanic.

Say hello to my little friend [/sarcasm], people need to realize this little fellow hangs about with me a lot
-
BOOM!
-
That appears to be what happened to your cerebrum at some point.
-
Or perhaps a little too much Wonder Emporium, ;)
-
That appears to be what happened to your cerebrum at some point.
when i ate lead paint
-
Yeah, it made you dumber.
Slightly.
Very slightly.
-
