There are many aspects to being a member of this region. To confirm your allegiance to the ideals of the region, you can become a citizen. All you need to do is go to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (http://forum.taijitu.org/index.php?topic=116.0) and take the oath and inform the minister of your nation and UN nation names.
Once you are a citizen, you can join the army! Go to the Army Headquarters (http://forum.taijitu.org/index.php?topic=300.0) and stick down your name as a potential trooper. The relevant minister or army officer will be in touch shortly, and your training can begin!
Citizenship also opens the way to being a senator. Senators create the laws of the region, and joining the senate is a great way to get a larger say in the way we do things here in Taijitu. To submit yourself for the process of Senatorship, and to read the conditions and what this entails, go to the Office of the Speaker (http://forum.taijitu.org/index.php?topic=249.0).
Other things that you might want to chance a glance at...
General (http://forum.taijitu.org/index.php#1)
Talk, spam, meet other nations of Taijitu. Games is especially nice for raising that pesky post count. ;)
Business District (http://forum.taijitu.org/index.php#10)
Sell things at the Bazaar. Can you make things for the other nations in Taijitu? More importantly, are they willing to pay for your service? Open a shop to make more tai, and buy things to get rid of your tai!
Role play (http://forum.taijitu.org/index.php#4)
Role play is a very large part of life in Taijitu. Role play secret affairs, covert colonization with other nations, or just about everything that your imagination can come up with.

They should let you know whether your application was successful in the application thread, or at least that's how I was informed. If it was successful then your mask will be changed as well.
Any other questions will probably get answered quicker and by someone more informed at the Help Desk (http://forum.taijitu.org/community-office/the-help-desk/150/).
