Mafia
« on: February 22, 2007, 04:14:06 AM »
Off in a sleepy town in North Jersey... everyone is sleeping, except one. That "one" is the mafioso, who is out for blood. If the Mafioso kills everyone, he wins. If the Mafioso is found out, the others win!

Players;

God-> Officiates undertakings in the game.

Mafioso (x1)-> Kills one person each night/round.

Cop (x2)-> Tries to figure out who the Mafioso is, each sheriff can accuse one person.

Doctor (x1)-> May heal or save one person each night. The catch is the Doctor cannot know who the Mafioso has killed. If the Doctor heals correctly, that person is saved.

Citizen (x3+)-> Acts like the jury each night, tries to catch the Mafioso (there must be a simple majority as to the Jury's choice. Any player may be accused/found guilty by the jury. If the Jury finds a player guilty and they are not... they still die). The minimum that we need to play is 3. More can be added.

Quote
The person who hosts each round (God) will send out roles to the people who choose to play. The roles are defined above. At the start of each round, every role sends me the name of any co-player.

For the Mafioso, they are killing the person they choose.
For the Cops, they are trying to find the mafioso.
For the Doctor, they are trying to heal the person the Mafioso killed.
For the Townsfolk, they too are trying to find the mafioso but they are the jury so it must be a majority.

No one can discuss what their role is.

***After we have all players signed-up, I will assign roles. At the beginning of the round you will PM me the name of the person your character chooses to accuse/kill/save. Please make the title of the PM your part***

E.G.
Quote from: Mafioso
I choose to kill Billy-bob

I don't plan on playing God every round. Others can sign-up for round two and so on, after the end of the previous round.

***Rounds may not have to take more than a night, and we could possibly do more than 1 round in a day***

Round 1 a minimum of 7 players. If you are assigned as Townfolk, you won't send me your vote until round 3.

Kind of a difficult theme here don't you think?  Plus a mafioso doesn't kill innocent people outside of the mafia usually.

I've played it very successfully at other forums.

And whose to say that the people the Mafioso kills are completely innocent?

This kind of sounds like #werebot on IRC.

I send Private Messages to everyone... everyone has a role. No one knows who the other player's roles are.

Example: Here The only problem we had there was that we had too few players. Generally you need more than 7, but you can play with just 7.

I've never played it on IRC, but if you have ever played Werewolf, it's similar to that too.

Sure, I'll play... but I'm not sure we'll ever play it.
Music is the key to the heart.

"Once art to me was something far off, unfathomable and unreachable... But I discovered that the real essence of art was not something high up and far off, it was right inside my ordinary daily self. If a musician wants to be a fine artist, he must first become a finer person. A work of art is the expression of a person's whole personality, sensibility, and ability." -Shinichi Suzuki

Count me in, this game rocks. However, if we had ca. 12 players, we could take in the Psycho. Mwahahaa.

I'll still Jezuz, as long as people are interested.

And fyi, the only two places I play this in RL are Theatre Camp, and Show Choir parties.

I've played this at various get-togethers, camps and student organisation meetings.
