Off in a sleepy town in North Jersey... everyone is sleeping, except one. That "one" is the mafioso, who is out for blood. If the Mafioso kills everyone, he wins. If the Mafioso is found out, the others win!
Players;
God-> Officiates undertakings in the game.
Mafioso (x1)-> Kills one person each night/round.
Cop (x2)-> Tries to figure out who the Mafioso is, each sheriff can accuse one person.
Doctor (x1)-> May heal or save one person each night. The catch is the Doctor cannot know who the Mafioso has killed. If the Doctor heals correctly, that person is saved.
Citizen (x3+)-> Acts like the jury each night, tries to catch the Mafioso (there must be a simple majority as to the Jury's choice. Any player may be accused/found guilty by the jury. If the Jury finds a player guilty and they are not... they still die). The minimum that we need to play is 3. More can be added.
The person who hosts each round (God) will send out roles to the people who choose to play. The roles are defined above. At the start of each round, every role sends me the name of any co-player.
For the Mafioso, they are killing the person they choose.
For the Cops, they are trying to find the mafioso.
For the Doctor, they are trying to heal the person the Mafioso killed.
For the Townsfolk, they too are trying to find the mafioso but they are the jury so it must be a majority.
No one can discuss what their role is.
***After we have all players signed-up, I will assign roles. At the beginning of the round you will PM me the name of the person your character chooses to accuse/kill/save. Please make the title of the PM your part***
E.G.
I choose to kill Billy-bob
I don't plan on playing God every round. Others can sign-up for round two and so on, after the end of the previous round.
***Rounds may not have to take more than a night, and we could possibly do more than 1 round in a day***
Round 1 a minimum of 7 players. If you are assigned as Townfolk, you won't send me your vote until round 3.

Any questions?

Kind of a difficult theme here don't you think? Plus a mafioso doesn't kill innocent people outside of the mafia usually.
-
I've played it very successfully at other forums.
And whose to say that the people the Mafioso kills are completely innocent?
-
I don't get it, could you simplify please?
-

This kind of sounds like #werebot on IRC.
-
Okay I think I get it, except how do you tell people there roles, I suppose you pm the murderer guy, what bout the cop do people know who he is? Could you send me a link to a forum you did this on?
Thanks,
Ben

I send Private Messages to everyone... everyone has a role. No one knows who the other player's roles are.
Example: Here (http://interactive.mugglenet.com/temps/viewtopic.php?t=27838&start=0) The only problem we had there was that we had too few players. Generally you need more than 7, but you can play with just 7.
I've never played it on IRC, but if you have ever played Werewolf, it's similar to that too.
-
Now i get it, sounds great, sign me up for the first round!
-
Sure, I'll play... but I'm not sure we'll ever play it.
-
I played this at camp, and as a Theatre Game, and I really enjoyed it. Sign me up.
-
Count me in, this game rocks. However, if we had ca. 12 players, we could take in the Psycho. Mwahahaa.
-
and as a Theatre Game,
Made me lawl.
-
I'll still Jezuz, as long as people are interested.
And fyi, the only two places I play this in RL are Theatre Camp, and Show Choir parties.
-
I've played this at various get-togethers, camps and student organisation meetings.
-
We need at least 3 more players before we begin.

Just noticed, I've always played it so that one-third of the players are Mafia members, there's one cop and one doctor. Increases the difficulty level just so that it's challenging but not frustrating.
-
I wouldn't mind playing that way, infact... I think it would be a lot of fun :)
But, I'd like to play it my way for the first round, and then whoever is God can make up their rules. But let's get the three players we need to complete this round first.
-
Come on guys, don't be so boring, join the game!
-
I'll play! I've only done it once before, in my senior year of high school.
And fyi, the only two places I play this in RL are Theatre Camp, and Show Choir parties.
Theater and choir are excellent, by the way. Cool to know of other "fine artsy" people here.
-
Artsy? I'm artsy! ;D And I didn't see that there's another Show Choir person here. Vive l' Choir (no speak french, pardones moi)
-
Still 2 more people needed, artsy or not.
-
Go on then...I'll play.....
-
One more then!
-
*bumps*
-
BANG!
-
Alrighty, I'm in.
-
Yay! Game on!
-
BANG BANG with my 9mm, everyone is dead, 'cept me. I didnt off myself.
-
/me gives Bustos an angry look and bumps the thread because WE HAVE ENOUGH PLAYERS NOW.
-
Can this really work as a forum game?
-
If you wouldn't insist on debumping it, yes, yes it would.
-
So...how and when do we start???
-
I assume we wait for Gnoled Ttam to remember this thread.
-
If he doesn't and he visits IRC, I'll try to remember reminding him.
-
If it's not too late, I'd like to sign up (though if it is too late, I'll wait until the next round.
-
Yay, eight! Someone want to PM GM?
-
I'm here!
Mafioso, please send me the name of the person you have decided to MURDER!
Cops, please send me your choices of your arrests,
Doctor, please tell me who you think is in most need of saving!
Citizens and everyone else, please debate here on who you wish to hang for suspicions of being the mafioso.
-
I'd like to get in on this, but I can wait till the next round if I have to. And a question: shouldn't you tell us who got killed before the citizens/everyone else debate on who the mafioso is? I've never played this before, but it looks cool.
-
He's right, y'know, and at least we've played it with a few variations, like one cop and three mafia and that the cops don't arrest anyone but "investigate," basically asking the GM if someone's rotten or not.
-
I heard of the Seer and Investigators. By all means the person who Emcees the next round can make their own rules :)
I'm only wait on one person to reply.
-
The cops exit a nice blue house, dragging someone who refuses to not kick and scream. Talmann is carried away in handcuffs, ducking his head to get in the squad car. He yells "I'm innocent you fools! I'm innocent!"
The mafioso knows this and decides to shoot him to shut him up up.
The doctor, vainly looking into the mirror admiring their own image, has neglected to make it to the scene of the crime to save Talmann.
Talmann, the Citizen, is deaded.
Begin debating! Who do you think is the stoopid mafioso? One Hint; It isn't Talmann. :-P
-
I say it's Solnath, just because it's the last post :)
-
Last post? Hmm?
I'd say it's Al', but no proof insofar.
-
*Stays silent*
-
*pokes thread* What's going on?
-
wow... I didn't last long... :-\
shows how much I know about surroundings.
I'm out for further rounds. Barc can take my place.
-
Don't give up, please?
Um, ok! If you are ready... Please send your citizen's vote to me now!
-
So....it's not Talmann :-\
Hmmmmm.....
-
Soly's got my vote. Evil to tha core, 'e is.
-
But I'm innocent! I have an alibi!
-
I'm thinking Soly too.....
But he has an alibi.....
Okay....then I vote Allama.....her voting so quickly makes me terribly suspicious
-
Hmm, actually, I second that.
-
Anymore citizen votes?
-
I'll go for Solnath, despite the alibi.
-
Bump! Don't let this die!
-
I concur!
-
Are we still waiting on votes???
-
Nah, we'll move on now.
As the sun starts to set, a gang of upset citizens walks to their respective houses. Hanging from a tree, in the middle of the town's most pristine park, is the lifeless body of Solnath, the Doctor has been lynched by the Citizens.
Mafia and Cops, please send in your kill/suspect votes.
-
OOC: D'oh.
-
OOC: Just for Pwn'age purposes
-
This game died with me.
-
Just think of it this way...the game smashed to black at the climactic moment while Journey's Don't Stop Believin' was playing. Doesn't that make things better?
-
*Shoots Trey for being in the mafia* This town belongs to me... got it!
-
*Gets up and shoots Taco in the back.*
Haven't you ever watched a movie? Never just shoot someone once!
-
Like you just did?
*Throws Trey in a vat of acid*
